Jack Drury stood on the balcony of your rented villa, gazing out over the rolling hills of Tuscany, which were now bathed in the golden light of a perfect Italian sunset. The landscape stretched before him like a painting, with vineyards, olive groves, and cypress trees lining the horizon. The air was warm, carrying the scents of wild rosemary and freshly baked bread, mingled with the faint saltiness of the distant Mediterranean breeze. From the village below, the hum of laughter drifted up, accompanied by the soft strumming of a guitar, giving the evening a serenade-like quality.

Italy in the summer—it was everything Jack had imagined, and somehow even more. The trip had been perfect in every way, except for the one thing that still weighed heavily on his mind: he hadn’t yet proposed.

As he stood there, trying to take it all in, a knot of anxiety tightened in his chest. He had planned this trip for months, meticulously crafting it to be the perfect backdrop for the proposal he had been dreaming of for so long. He knew it was going to be here, in this breathtaking country, that he’d ask you to be with him forever.

The ring had been tucked away in his suitcase since you both arrived, hidden in the same pocket, waiting for the moment. Every cobblestone street you walked down together, every café you sat at sipping espresso, every sunset you watched from a cliffside—all of them felt like they could have been the one. But every time, something held him back. Was it the right time? Was this the right place? What if it wasn’t perfect?

Jack glanced over at you. You were sitting just a few feet away on the balcony, your legs curled beneath you in the wicker chair, utterly absorbed in a book. The soft light of the evening illuminated your face, and the warm breeze played with your hair, causing you to tuck a loose strand behind your ear. You sipped your glass of Chianti with a peaceful smile, completely at ease. How are you so calm, while I’m a nervous wreck? he thought.

His heart swelled with love, but the fear of not getting the proposal exactly right had kept him on edge for days. He had pictured this moment so many times, but now that it was here, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he had to make it perfect—for you, for them.

Tonight, though, he decided it had to happen. You’d already been in Italy for a week, exploring the Cinque Terre, getting lost in the art and magic of Florence, and winding through the countryside on your Vespa. It had been the most romantic week of his life, and yet he had hesitated every day. He was done hesitating.

"Jack?" your voice broke through his thoughts, soft and warm, pulling him back to the present. You’d closed your book and were watching him with a curious expression. "Are you alright?"

He gave you a smile, but even he could feel the nervous energy behind it. "Yeah… I’m good. Just thinking."

You stood up from your chair, walking over to join him at the balcony’s edge. Leaning against the old stone railing, you looked out at the glowing horizon. "This place," you sighed, your voice full of awe, "it’s like a dream. I don’t ever want to leave."

Jack let out a small chuckle. "Me neither." His hand slipped instinctively into his pocket, where his fingers brushed against the small velvet box. His heart raced.

This is it, he thought. The sun was sinking lower, casting a beautiful palette of pink and orange across the sky, and the entire world seemed to have paused for the two of you. The soft toll of church bells echoed from the village below, mixing with the sounds of nature settling into the evening.

"Hey," Jack said, his voice catching slightly as he turned toward you. You glanced up, eyebrows raised, your eyes filled with warmth and curiosity. You had no idea of the internal battle he was fighting.

"What is it?" you asked, a gentle smile on your lips, sensing his nerves.

He took a deep breath, feeling the small velvet box in his pocket. His heart was pounding so loudly he was sure you could hear it. Slowly, he pulled the ring from his pocket and held it behind his back for a moment. "There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you. Something I’ve wanted to do for a long time."

Your eyes widened slightly, a knowing smile starting to form. "Jack… what’s going on?"

He felt the adrenaline surge as he dropped to one knee, the small box now in full view. Your hand flew to your mouth, your eyes glistening with surprise and emotion as you realised what was happening.

"Being here with you, in this beautiful place… it’s made me realise something important," Jack began, his voice stronger now. "It doesn’t matter where we are, as long as I’m with you. I’ve known for a long time that I want to spend the rest of my life with you, and I can’t think of a better moment than right now to ask you…"

He opened the box, revealing the ring that had been tucked away, just waiting for this moment. "Will you marry me?"

For a moment, everything stilled. You stared at him, tears welling up in your eyes, your hands trembling as they slowly lowered from your face. The scent of lavender from the garden below filled the air, mingling with the distant hum of cicadas, the soft chatter from the village, and the distant buzz of a Vespa winding its way up the hill.

And then, a radiant smile spread across your face, lighting up the moment more than the sunset ever could. You nodded, unable to speak at first.

"Yes," you finally whispered, your voice thick with emotion. "Yes, Jack. A thousand times, yes."

Jack felt a flood of relief and happiness wash over him as he slipped the ring onto your finger. Standing, he pulled you into his arms, and you kissed him, your lips warm and full of love. It was more perfect than any sunset, more magical than any Italian countryside scene he could’ve imagined.

As you stood there, wrapped in each other’s embrace, the world seemed to blur around you. The nerves, the second-guessing, the fear of not finding the right moment—all of it disappeared. The truth was, there had never been a perfect moment to propose.

Until now.

With the sun sinking behind you, casting a final golden glow over the Tuscan hills, Jack realised this—this love, this life, this us—was the perfect moment he had been waiting for all along.

THEY TOOK THIS FROM USSSS THEY TOOK IT. nothing and i truly mean nothing is as crazy as the idea of going from cultist seclusion straight into MARRIAGE AND KIDS. it is perhaps an easy ending to his character, something bland and uninteresting and dignified enough, but i can’t stand for it. i can’t live knowing kevin never got to do any of the age appropriate stuff he should’ve been doing

this might be controversial (?!) but it’s one of the craziest aspects of the ec to me. andreil’s ending is a good and realistic one imo but it’s crazy to me that the others pair up and marry and have kids and that’s it. even more so thinking half of the main cast marries their college sweetheart. i’m not saying it can’t happen i’m just saying i can think of more fun things than the foxes all getting married and having kids you know 🙏🏽 the world is so beautiful and large

Beyond Wrestling’s weekly show Uncharted Territory is on its third episode, and has been a lot of fun. The matches feel fresh, and the two-hour run time really prevents things from getting bogged down in that indie rut of Get Your Shit In At All Costs. The crowd has been a delight so far, too, serenading MJF with “You Are My Sunshine” because of his childhood appearance singing that song on the Rosie O’Donnell show, and just tonight, chanting “EC 4″ at Richard Holliday when he interfered in a match.

christine mackenzie loves her kids, it took her so long trying to conceive that when mack came along, he was the center of her world. to say he was a ❛ momma’s boy ❜ was an understatement. she used to sing him to sleep, sometimes he’d rub his tired little eyes and ask ❝ one more mama! just one more! ❞ with a sweet smile, and a lovely but tired singing voice, christine would serenade her little boy to sleep. that never changed after ruben’s arrival, if anything, ruben wasn’t the least bit interested and would always fall asleep long before mack ever asked for that next song. as they grew up, christine was his number one fan, screaming and hollering as mack ran back and forth on the football field. it was what his father wanted him to do, but she got her way, by teaching mack how to cook and play the piano. she once said, ❝ no son of mine, will be limited to only learning certain things, because they’re boys… ❞ at the time, mack was frustrated by the fact that his mom was so adamant that they both learned the traditional ❛ home-ec ❜ activities reserved for women back in her day. but as he grew older, he’s thankful to her, every time he’s been able to use one of the skills she’d taught him in his youth. every time she sees him, she wraps her arms around his middle, head barely reaching his chest and humming as she called him, ❝ my alfie… ❞

allen mackenzie was a tough but compassionate father, he always pushed his boys to do better. he didn’t tolerate slacking, and was always training his boys in whatever sports they pursued. for mack, he was pushed to be the best defensive linebacker he could be, as for ruben, he just hoped the kid would hit a home run every once in a while. mack spent many days in the garage next to his father, learning everything he could about cars. there were times the two would spend days huddled together gutting the inside of a car, to only spend days putting everything back in. it wasn’t unusual for allen to come into mack’s room on a saturday morning to drag him to the junk yard to scrounge around for parts. allen was actually the one to push mack to pursue his dream of being a mechanical engineer. he knew how detail-oriented his son was, and how quickly mack picked up on different techniques he’d taught him over the years. mack was actually the reason Allen had a bad knee, he took a bad hit when mack tackled him during one of their thanksgiving family football games. that entire night mack apologized profusely, but allen merely waved his son off and blamed it on his old age. allen tries to reach out to mack as often as he can, the older the two men got, tried to play it off like he was doing it for his wife. mack still sends his father his signature cologne every two years, when he knows the older man is running low. allen was very tempted to name mack after him, though christine shot him down in favor of using the first two letters for his name instead.

황사같은 하늘이어서 맑진 않았지만 오후 나절에

내려쬐는 햇살이 좋아서 책상에 다시 앉아 업무에

처음 시작했을 땐 어느 정도의 마지노선을 정해 두었지만…

홀마담의 짖굳은 작은 악마가 깨어나는 바람에 ‘수동공격’형으루

좀 … 어쨌든 문자넣고 사과는 하였지만 기분이 좀 그래요…

언젠가 홀마담에게도 그런 역효과가 부메랑처럼 날아 올 것을…|ㅠㅜ/

항상 진솔한 면만 보이는 것도 대인관계에서 일관성이 있어서 좋겠지만

좀 심심하지 않을까 하는데요…

암튼 앞으로는 다시금 조절수위를 스스로 잘 다독여야 할 듯해요…

  마음이 봄기운처럼 아직은 콩닥이질 않으네요…

주말에 시간이 나면 이번엔, 이번엔 정말…하고 ‘화려한 외출’을

꿈꿔 보지만 막상 주말이 되면 그냥 일장춘몽으로 끝나버리구 퍼져 버리니, 원…에헤헤헤*^^*

재미있는 음악의 형식

  초,중.고등학교의 음악시간에 어김없이 등장하는 음악 형식

저는 음악을 전공했어도 형식 이야기만 나오면 수업시간이 지겨웠고, 심지어는 대학교에서도 형식에 관련된 수업은 싫어했을 정도였죠

제가 항상 사람들에게 주장하는 것이 “예술은 누군가의 영혼에서 나온 것이므로 학문적으로 분석해서 그 해답을 찾으려니 어려운 것이다” 라는 생각이에요

아무리 기초적인 형식이 바탕으로 깔린 예술작품이라고 해도 그 바탕 위에 얹어지는 것은 예술가의 감성과 영혼이기 때문이죠

이러다 저만의 음악론으로 사설이 길어질 것 같으니 다시 본론으로 돌아가서 ^:^

  우리가 무수히 많이 접했던 클래식 음악들의 제목에는 정말 많은 공통점이 있죠

베토벤 피아노 소나타, 모짜르트 피아노 소나타… 소나타 Sonata

베르디의 오페라, 푸치니의 오페라… 오페라 Opera

슈베르트의 세레나데, 모짜르트의 세레나데… 세레나데 Serenade

헨델의 칸타타, 바흐의 칸타타… 칸타타 Cantata

멘델스존의 카프리치오, 브람스의 카프리치오… 카프리치오 Capriccio

  어떤 사람들은 대체 왜 똑같은 제목에 번호만 다르게 해서 수많은 작곡가가 곡을 썼냐는 황당한 질문을 하기도~

형식에 따라 음악사가 이루어지던 이 시기에는 어쩔 수 없는 현상이었고, 지금처럼 제목을 붙여 음악을 만들기 이전의 시대에는 특히나 음악의 형식이 제목처럼 지금까지 알려지고 있답니다

이렇게 친숙한 이름들은 모두 이탈리아어에서 만들어진 단어에���

  Sonata 는 sonare (suonare) 라는 단어가 기원이고, 연주하다라는 의미를 갖고있어요

물론 이 단어 하나로도 소리, 연주, 연주곡…의 뜻이 될 수 있구요

3~4개의 악장으로 나뉘어져있고, 학교에서는 특히 제시부-발전부-재현부라는 딱딱한 설명으로 결론을 내는 형식이에요

하지만 어려울 건 하나도 없죠

맨 처음엔 작곡가가 표현하고 싶은 선율을 표현했다가 (제시부)

더 아름답고 풍부하고 멋진 작품을 위해 선율을 꾸미고 ��전시키고 다양하게 변형도 했다가 (발전부)

다시 표현하려는 선율을 상기시키면서 곡을 마무리하는 것 (재현부)

이것이 바로 소나타입니다

  Opera 는 dramma in musica, dramma per musica 라고 과거에 표현되었다가 opera in musica 라고 부르고 줄여서 opera 라고 하게 되었어요

그대로 해석하면 음악을 위한 희곡이란 뜻이죠

opera 라는 단어 자체로는 이탈리아어로 일, 사업, 작품, 조직… 이런 뜻도 갖고 있답니다

오페라는 음악, 미술, 연기, 무용, 문학…이 만나서 이루는 가장 거대한 음악인 것 같아요

그만큼 이해하고 가까이하기엔 어려울 수도 있지만요 ^:^

이탈리아는 오페라가 성장하고 현재까지도 그 전통을 이어가는 대표적인 나라이고, 오페라를 대표하는 베르디, 푸치니, 로씨니 등 훌륭한 작곡가들을 탄생시킨 나라이기도 해요

  Serenade 는 이탈리아어 sereno 라는 단어에서 나온 말인데, 맑은, 밝은, 평온한… 이런 뜻을 갖고있죠

게다가 이탈리아어의 sera 저녁 에도 연관이 있다고도 해요

대부분은 저녁이나 밤에 창 밖에서 사랑하는 사람을 위해 연주하는 곡을 세레나데라고 알고 있지만, 단순히 즐거움을 위해 작곡된 작품들도 있고 축하를 목적으로 쓰여진 작품도 있어요

이탈리아어로 serenata 라고 세레나데를 말하기도 한답니다

흔히 소야곡이라고 하는 것이 바로 세레나데에요

  Cantata 는 이탈리아어 cantare 노래하다 라는 단어에서 나온 말이에요

혼자 부르는 작품도 있지만 합창으로 연주하는 작품도 있고, 세속음악과 종교음악으로 나뉘어 발전을 했는데 특히 종교음악은 신에 대한 찬양을 내용으로 많은 발전을 이루었죠

용도에 따라 다양한 형식을 가진 칸타타는 노래를 위한 바로크 시대의 가장 유행했던 음악이에요

  Capriccio 는 약간 생소하게 들릴수 있겠지만, 이 단어 자체가 이탈리아어에서는 변덕이라는 뜻이고 한국말로는 광상곡 or 기상곡 이라고 해석을 하기도 해요

단어 뜻에서 알 수 있듯이 특별한 형식에 얽매이지 않고 자유롭게 쓰여진 재미있는 곡을 말해요

마침 차이코프스키의 작품 중에서 이탈리아 기상곡 이라고 있으니 기회가 되면 한번 들어보세요 ^:^

카프리치오… 약간은 어려운 단어이지만 예술을 표현하기엔 가장 편한 형식이란 생각이 드네요
