So Echo is already notable for its connection to the Choctaw Nation, but something that really struck me is that this is probably the first time the Mississippian Mound Builders have been depicted in a mainstream non-documentary film/series.
I really hope this kicks off interest in that civilization and its cities such as Cahokia, Moundsville (which was probably the location in the show), Etowah, and Spiro. Not to mention other civilizations like the Hopewell and Adena.

FINALLY watched Echo.
I’m ridiculously happy to finally see an indigenous deaf woman finally take the lead role in media, especially in something as big as Marvel.
One thing that I saw in Maya that I felt like was really important is that she is such a badass. The few times I’ve seen deaf people in TV show or movies, they are presented as helpless. Or unable to communicate with anyone. Glad they killed that stereotype. My deaf friend often notices things in conversations that I don’t. Also I speak BSL! Never mentioned that on here before.
Alaqua Cox really stood out in Hawkeye, I was so shocked that it was her very first acting role, so I’m even more happy that the role was given to a great actress and someone to fun (watch her interviews, considering her actual personally Alaqua plays the cold mean badass really well).
I really hope Maya Lopez is confirmed to return or else I’m rioting.

Episode 1 and 2 can be a bit confusing? They assume you've seen Maya's story on the series Hawkeye, and I wish each show were written to be watched more independently, since I haven't seen that one yet. But by the end of ep 2 and ep 3 the various threads really come together beautifully. The themes about family, community, and Maya's personal journey in particular really hit. Gorgeous work there. I'm excited to finish the story tomorrow!

MY FELLOW MAYA GIRLIES HOW WE FEELIN?
(Spoilers under cut, I looked something up so assume it’s spoilers for the whole season)
This show is so ridiculously well done! The fight choreography?
The COSTUMING? Mayas fishnet top had me SCREECHING
I am a bit disappointed that we won’t be getting a Matt/Maya team up because I think that would be amazing but
IM SO EXCITED ANYWAYS? BC THEYRe DOING MAYA SO MUCH JUSTICE AND THIS SHOW IS LIKE DAMN NEAR POETIC WITH ITS EDITING
The way the audio is cut when Maya is experiencing high stress/adrenaline? The way everyone in her family/home town can sign but Fisk chooses not to until he’s begging for his life??
Also Biscuits and Skully playing up their indigenous nature to take advantage of those shitty white people? Amazing.
THE CHOICES MADE WERE SO GOOD OK!?

As an indigenous person echo was incredible. We have big families extended families and we're just big on families. Our cousins are our best friends. I talk to my cousins daily. I talk to my siblings daily. We actually have a birthday party going on today that I'm going to. But anyways as a rez girl seeing echo was super fun. Very cool and just an all around great show. My favorite was the powwow ep. Tho I wish they could've made it longer. Powwows are so much fun.
For the opening they had northern Cree and I was like !!!
Our our sister tribe even had someone go down to help with it, so our tribe was represented too!
My gma and I were like okay where's the frybread stand? We even saw a Navajo frybread stand in the back and were like nice
But I love the series, and I hope other people see it and like it. Not just because of daredevil or whatever but because it's good and the characters are great

You know what. Fandom can live and let live. There's no need to--
*clicks on the Echo tag and sees that the vast majority of posts are about Matt Murdock's one-episode appearance*

episode 4 goes so hard. brilliant work. some of the various intimate/family scenes here are more tense and powerful than a fight scene, the emotions are so powerful. the narrative really locks in late in ep 2, kicks into gear in episode 3, and then is just going full out by ep 4. highly rec!

y’all, Echo. (no spoilers here)
I cried so so much at this show. I loved the characters, the sense of Place, the sound design. I adore Maya Lopez now. I’m really glad to get to know her character: she was one of the interesting parts of Hawkeye, for me. I’d love to see more.
I wonder what happened with the ten-episode version Feige said was un-airable. The first episode may strike a little unsatisfying because it’s trying to do both a “previously on” for like…three series? *and* sketch out a prologue, and I found it a bit difficult to figure out when The Main Action of the series properly starts, as well as the timeline (like, good lord, it’s been 12/13 years in-universe since the Battle of New York, which is when all the Netflix series heroes kind of started up, so, uh…time???) but it’s not like you actually need to Do Homework to catch up. but once it’s done that it’s basically fine. I had watched Hawkeye and I couldn’t remember nor place into MCU canon timeline what they showed from it but it didn’t matter outside Maya’s character anyway, not for this.
It’s cool that the Halluci Nation (credited as A Tribe Called Red, their previous name) got on the soundtrack here, with multiple tracks—there are a lot of cool First Nations and Native American artists in electronic music, and maybe folks’ll look them up.
again: enjoyed this show so much. there’s a needle drop that absolutely dropped my jaw (the scene is bonkers) and there’s an action sequence early on that’s a little like that hallway one in Daredevil s1 that everyone was talking about, it looks so much like a oner and it’s so Acting as well it almost seems like it can’t be? anyway. consider it.
