While we are celebrating Eid from the comfort of our homes, have we forgotten about the dark and gloomy world outside? Have we forgotten how the lives of our brothers and sisters are devoured by violence and destruction? We will see a picture of dead children and feel connected. We will mourn for the humanity and forget about it again. While we find choosing an outfit to wear Eid tricky, have we forgotten how our sisters are coerced into removing their Niqab under the realms of ‘freedom’ and democracy? And the scholars who refused to water down the Deen despite the fear of death and imprisonment. Have we forgotten about those who are shackled in chains merely because they wanted to convey us how Islam should be followed? While we feast on Biryani and Kebab, do we think about the hunger and grief of the Syrians? How are we going to answer Allah on Judgment day about how we ignored our fellow Muslims in the time of need? In our celebrations, let us spare some thoughts on the suffering of the Muslim Ummah. Make Dua for them, ask Allah to ease their situations. We ask Allah to bless us, accept all our good deeds and forgive our transgressions. And may He grant us and our family jannat al-firdous. May Allah give us life long enough to reach this time next year. Eid Mubarak!
