Gamer o atleta? Il “boom” degli e-Sports

Chissà in quanti di noi hanno sfidato un amico o un familiare ad un videogame, con la voglia di sconfiggerlo per poi esultare con fierezza alla nostra vittoria. Beh, non possiamo negare che sia una bella soddisfazione. Eppure esistono competizioni nazionali e internazionali di videogiochi che raggiungono un livello agonistico assolutamente non comparabile alle sfide casalinghe tra conoscenti. È il fenomeno degli e-Sports (dall'inglese electronic sports), ovvero il giocare videogames ad un livello professionistico, e nell'ultimo periodo sta letteralmente spopolando.

Si tratta, ovviamente, di giochi multigiocatore dai molteplici generi, ovvero sparatutto, strategici, simulatori sportivi, giochi di guida e molti altri ancora. Negli ultimi anni gli enormi passi avanti della tecnologia (fondamentalmente grazie a dispositivi e console di ultima generazione e connessioni ad internet iperveloci) e la costante crescita di interesse per il mondo virtuale, hanno permesso agli e-Sports di avere un enorme successo. Basti pensare che, secondo diverse testate giornalistiche, entro la fine del 2019 il giro d'affari degli e-Sports potrebbe superare la barriera del miliardo di dollari!

I protagonisti di questo stravagante e affascinante mondo non possono che essere i gamers, ma possono questi ultimi essere paragonati ai comuni giocatori di videogiochi? Senza dubbio le similitudini sono parecchie, infatti non fanno che giocare ad un gioco su console. D'altro canto, esistono anche molte differenze. Quella principale è, probabilmente, che i giocatori di sport elettronici vengono considerati degli atleti. Sì, può sembrare strano, eppure è proprio così. Infatti, nel 2017, il Comitato Olimpico Internazionale ha cominciato a considerare la possibilità di vedere le gare e-Sport come veri e propri eventi capaci di prendere parte a future edizioni dei Giochi Olimpici.

Inoltre, ultimamente molte società sportive (calcistiche e motoristiche in primis) stanno allestendo delle vere e proprie squadre composte da gamers di livello mondiale per poter competere in nuovi tornei che possono dare ulteriore visibilità e importanza al brand societario. Inevitabilmente, il “boom” degli e-Sports dà grande beneficio ai gamers, che oltre a mettere in mostra il loro grande talento, trovano in questa nuova disciplina un vero e proprio lavoro.

Ora, pensandoci bene, è impressionante come il ramo digitale dei videogames sia diventato così importante a livello globale, favorendo la creazione di competizioni internazionali che attirano fan da ogni parte del globo, riempiendo arene e spingendo i giocatori a battersi per prestigiosi premi e ingenti somme di denaro. Insomma, il fenomeno degli sport elettronici ha ormai preso il sopravvento, e chissà se in un futuro non troppo remoto possa entrare a far parte degli sport olimpici, facendo diventare i gamers degli autentici atleti.
