Harry has always loved hearing tales of Marauder escapades.

Secrets of a castle he’ll soon attend, fascinated by parties held within Hogwarts walls.

“He’s old enough to come, he can help organise too—”

Lily pretends not to notice the wink sent over her shoulder and waits for her nine-year-old to react to his godfather.

“Can I mum, dad? —Please. It’s fancy dress, and Sirius is turning THIRTY! It’ll be so much fun—”

They agree, of course, and even allow him to plan their costumes.

How bad could it be...

A decade older, still totally besotted.

thank you Doe!!! kelsey beat you to the punch on 9 so I'll do the others <3 12. what's your perfect environment to create/write?

lying in bed, on a weekday evening or night, with chill bops in the background (think maggie rogers). logistically, that's when a lot of my free time is, and I also just generally prefer writing later in the day, having no interruptions, and being cozy.

18. do you only write when you're inspired, or do you try to sit and write no matter what?

over the summer, I tried to sit and write at pre-planned times, but now I only write when I'm inspired. I just could never get much out when I forced myself to sit and write, and I was starting to get frustrated with it. plus, my free time is a lot more limited now, and since I don't have any super burning/pressing things I'm dying to get out, I'd rather write only when I'm really into it!

31. An Alternative ending for the 31st

Hours of study, hours of practice.

Transfiguration, animation, undetectable shield charms, ancient magicks found within the walls of the Potter library.

They told no one their plan.

Every night they return to the reinforced corner of their lounge. Hidden beneath the cloak of invisibility, James trusts his father's words, ‘Powerful beyond measure, your life can depend on it.’

Death would overlook them; he is no different.

Arriving as they knew he would, lightning-quick green flashes, ‘James’ crumples, Voldemort ascends the stairs, the house shudders, cackling laughter surrounds them.

“It is done, burn it down Young Worm.”

With haste, they run.

1. "Smile!"

The rain lashes against the window, distorting what little landscape they see as the Hogwarts Express powers through the countryside.

Regardless, the seventh-year Gryffindors have little chance to enjoy the view.

Mary gestures with her left hand, the group shuffle together on the red velvet booth, a muffled groan and a grumble.

“Smile!”

Pressed together closer than any of them find comfortable, James’ breath is hot on Lily’s neck, her, practically in his lap, “Do you reckon she’ll do this all day?”

Her breath hitches, “Shall we give her a reason to look away?”

“That’s one way to tell them”.

31. Writing letters to the other

Lily sits cross-legged at the foot of their bed; a slow rolling tear tracks down her cheek.

“Which one this time?”

James wraps an arm around her as takes a seat by her side, riffling through the shoebox in front of his wife.

“I’m just so pleased we have these, everything else we’ve lost and what we might yet—”

He places the handwritten missive on top of the pile, and threads his fingers through hers, bringing their clasped hands to his lips.

“Whatever happens, Harry will know our story, a love that does not alter”.

“I wouldn’t change a thing”.

“OH MY GOD!” The seventh-year girls all freeze on descending from their dormitory.

The sight is too ridiculous to even laugh.

“What… Why… Who —”

“Lil, I didn’t know they were doing this”

“No Lil, I didn’t know—”

“Actually, they all—”

“Which one of you fuckers is my boyfriend?”

“I am”

In the common room, before them, are four identical James Potters.

“Let me get this straight, three of you idiots have pranked the fourth idiot by taking Polyjuice to become him?”

Mary chuckles, “It’s supposed to be a costume party, not a horror show”.
