I drew Eggbert as Dr. Jose Rizal and Emim as Ferdinand Blumentritt, his best friend! (because @mcphooey, creator of Emim, is Austrian)

Context: Dr. Jose Rizal is the national hero of my country, the Philippines. While he was still a student, he was sent abroad to continue his education, because his mother worried that her intelligent son would always be in hot water with the oppressive Spanish authorities who colonized the Philippines at the time. Rizal visited many places, including the US, Britain, Japan, and even Austria and Spain. In Europe, Rizal penned his novels, "Noli me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo," which denounced the corruption and abuses of the Spaniards, particularly abusive and greedy friars. Blumentritt, an Austrian educator born in present-day Czechia, corresponded with Rizal, and authored many books and articles about the Philippines. He translated "Noli me Tangere" into German and wrote the preface to "El Filibusterismo," but opposed the publication of the latter, for fear that the Spaniards would not tolerate Rizal's writings and seek to kill him.

Rizal dedicated "El Filibusterismo" to the GomBurZa- Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora- three priests who were executed for alleged involvement in the 1872 Cavite Mutiny. True enough, after returning to the Philippines, Jose Rizal would soon be arrested and executed in 1896. He sent one last letter to Blumentritt before his execution, and Blumentritt reportedly cried at the letter. After Rizal's death, the Philippine Revolution finally resulted in the end of Spain's rule and the establishment of the First Philippine Republic.

Anyways, for this drawing I made it look like Eggbert wrote "The Amazing Digital Filibuster" from "El Filibusterismo's" literal translation and dedicated it to Gummigoo, Max and Chad. Emim is worried that Caine might find out about it and make him explode like Gummigoo.

Rizal Day

WARNING: ANGST AND CHARACTER DEATH.

Again, with Eggbert as Dr. Jose Rizal and Emim (@mcphooey) as Ferdinand Blumentritt.

Context: Dr. Jose Rizal was executed by firing squad on December 30, 1896. At his execution, he shouted "Consumatum est!" which means "It is finished!" in Latin. He then turned to face the firing squad, but was shot and killed mid-turn.

Ferdinand Blumentritt, Rizal's friend in Austria, received his final letter. Blumentritt wept at Rizal's letter. (further explained in my previous post)

December 30 is now commemorated as Rizal Day, which is a national holiday in the Philippines.

For the drawing, I tried to make the firing squad look like the mannequin NPCs of the Digital Circus.
