theory on ribbit and jax's relationship

this one's a long one lol (also i didn't come up with this theory, i've just been seeing it more recently and wanted to share my thoughts on it)

i recently started seeing the theory of ribbit being the one to teach jax to have the kind of mentality he has now and that their relationship was potentially toxic and i think it's really interesting. this fanart just reminds me of it further.

ragatha having a similar talk to ribbit that she had with jax in the episode of corrupting others. of course she would recognize bad behavior from others because her mother acted similarly. she would call out ribbit as soon as she could. maybe they potential talk failing is the reason she says she failed jax. she wasn't able to save him from a toxic relationship.

jax doesn't recognize the severity of it all because ribbit was his friend, why would a friend do anything bad to you? then ribbit abstracts and, even if he has now realized how unhealthy their friendship was, it's hard to let go of somebody who you were so close with even after they're gone. he at least still keeps the mentality and refuses to change back.

he could still like ribbit, or he could have realized how ribbit was not the best person. either way, ribbit had a terribly strong impact on him as a person as the mentality they taught him is still there and isn't planning on being untaught anytime soon.

kaufmo may have even abstracted BECAUSE their mentality was being taught onto him as well. not exactly, since ribbit obviously wasn't around when he abstracted, but it as well as jax's continued similar view could have been part of the reason. that may be why jax is so upset over kaufmo's abstraction. he sees himself as the person to blame, or at least part of the issue. he may even realize how bad the mentality he has is, he just doesn't think he has the strength to change it.

the mentality may hurt him, but in a way it also bring him comfort. no matter how certain he may be of the fact ribbit was bad for him, he can't help but care and miss them. he may not even know why he feels that way. lots of victims feel attached to their abusers even afterthey're gone out of their lives.

ragatha thinks she failed jax because she let him get taken advantage of. she couldn't save him from possibly the one thing she swore she would save anybody from and this failure of hers has in turn affected others. if she could have just saved him, if she didn't let ribbit go so far, just how much of the current outcome could have changed? how much could she had prevented?

in honor of ep6 here's a mini jax analysis

great episode, one of my favs (probably my second fav after ep3)

someone did point out that it's not explicitly said that she doesn't know, it was just she didn't react when queenie was mentioned at the bar (the only reaction from anybody was jax) so it could be she does know but chose to not react.

even if she doesn't know, it's weird she would have absolutely no reaction to queenie's mention. no verbal remark but no physical reaction either. she doesn't even flinch or show surprise, so to me it's way more likely that she either does not know or that she had been told in the past that but didn't listen.

she might've been told about their marriage but didn't think much of it. maybe so much so that she completely forgot about it. listening, but not present, in a way. she was there when she was told, she maybe even reacted or asked for more information, but she never actually listened, it was just to be polite.

we do see something similar happening in ep5 where kinger asks her to help him with his eggs. she gladly agrees to help, but it's only after she agrees that she actually processes what he said and responds in confusion. i know this was mostly a gag, but with how casual it is it shows this behavior is not uncommon for ragatha
