Hello my lovely!! Same to you, friend! A lot of us have had a crappy 2024, me included, but you know what, we're here and we're getting through -- hopefully with a little kindness and support from our friends here. 💗

Wow, I'm honored to be one of your comfort blogs. 🥹🥹 I really appreciate you saying that mine feels like a "safe space" because that's exactly what I've tried to do. I'm truly grateful people who read my writing and interact with me on here. Like you, a lot of them have become mutuals and lovely friends. 💕

I talk to some people on here on a weekly basis now, and tbh those connections have not only fueled my creativity to keep writing, but have also just made me happier as a person. Or like you, they've gotten me through the hard times I've gone through this year. (I do reread comments and reblogs btw -- yours have never failed to make me smile. 🥰)

But yep, on to your EOY Asks before I just keep rambling on and throwing hearts at you. 💓💓💓

Oh God lol. Like I said, I've had a rough year personally. But in 3 words?

Exhausting. Painful. Creative.

I've been mentally, physically, emotionally exhausted for the better part of 9 months. I've been in physical pain and discomfort for much of that time and have had 2 surgical procedures, countless doctor visits, and too many life changes to list.

But through all of that, I feel like I've also done some of my most creative writing in 2023-2024 than ever before, including starting a Patreon, and dipping back into writing the fantasy romance novel I've been working on since grad school. Use the pain, I guess. 😅

It's changed over the years depending on my fixations, but right now (and for the past 2 years), it's definitely Dean freakin' Winchester.

I have a few WIPs that are already drafted and in the editing phases for next year -- including all of my remaining fics for @jacklesversebingo. (Jacklesverse Bingo24 Masterlist here!)

More specifically, I have plans to write sequel fics for the following series:

Break Me Down (Soldier Boy x Reader): Their son's first birthday, with a flashback to their wedding day.

Unravel Me (Soldier Boy x POC!Reader): The prequel series to Lost in Translation, in which Ben meets the reader (afro Latina).

Every Second Counts (Russell Shaw x Reader): Can Russell make good on his promise to "get out" and start his brewery? (AKA: his past comes knocking, and might just put the reader in danger. Diving deeper into the Shaw family history too.)

Take Me Home (Beau Arlen x Reader): @luci-in-trenchcoats put the idea of Beau and the reader from this series getting married into my head, and I feel like it would be a fun and somewhat angsty road to get there lol.

End of the Year Asks*

*for writers who didn't get to write as much this year as they would have liked.

Well, it's December. We made it through the year! It might not have been easy, but we did it! One of the things I always look forward to at the end of the year is sharing one of those fun end of year writing ask games for my friends to send in questions about the things I wrote that year. The only problem is, a lot of those question lists rely on you having written a fair amount, or they rely on you having finished major projects. I basically did neither of those things, but I still want to play, because I have a lot of hope for the new year.

So I came up with some questions that don't require a writer to have written thousands and thousands of words - and I welcome anyone who wants to reblog and use it!

Did you write something this year that you’re proud of? It could be a series, a one shot, even a snippet of dialogue within a scene - anything! 

Which character or story did you daydream about the most this year? Was there a favorite daydream scenario that you hope to translate into fic?

17: Ready When You Are took less than a day to outline and write, it was a request for someone who wanted some "let's have a baby" fluffiness from Marcus Pike and I was happy to deliver 💞

18. The entirety of Cherry, Cherry took longer than I expected, but it's also the very first fic I wrote for any fandom, ever. I put my heart and soul into it and even rewrote entire segments and whole chapters because I didn't feel they were up to par. I'm super happy with how it ended though 🩷

27: Honestly everyone I've ever talked to has given encouragement in some way or another. @itwasntimethatdidit40 patiently listens to my ramblings despite our major time difference, and @myownwholewildworld has been great support and a source of positivity. @milla-frenchy is an absolute sweetheart. @strang3lov3 has let me blab about the most random things and hasn't blocked me (yet). @604to647 is one of the nicest and most talented people walking this earth. @nerdieforpedro @sunshinehaze1 @untamedheart81 @everybodylovedcontractors @inept-the-magnificent @yorksgirl @shessweetsour have all been so sweet and nice in letting me think out loud and bark about things I probably wouldn't tell people IRL.

30. My best advice is to go with your gut. Write what you want. Write what's important to you. If there's a story in your gut, get it out. You might shape it differently than it originates, you might tweak the characters and change the setting, but don't doubt your instinct. Even if just a handful of people read it, that story is probably someone's favorite. 💝

Definitely one of the peak gardening months... May perhaps? When the wildflowers are going crazy and there's lots of little jobs to potter around doing. When I can pop out to mow the lawn and still be out there 4 hours later tying in my climbing roses and listening to my little songs and meeting a froglet in the grass.

ALRIGHT I'm a big softie so reading @adhdprincess Tess lives series had me all in my feels, but with the latest entry where you have to read Ellie feel the dread of messing up big time when Joel leaves and Tess is angry at her got me, AND THEN SHE HAS A PANIC ATTACK AND TESS COMFORTS HER. It was a lot. I have to confess I read this during a hurricane since there was no power and I had it downloaded so I was drowning in my tears with no light clutching my cellphone. 10/10 experience I would do it again.

30. To whoever reads this: if you're tired GO TO SLEEP.

I swear that scene or idea can wait, jot it down into basics (as in character A does this, character B is here) but please don't write it. Would you play basketball while you're barely functioning? Of course not, so please go get some rest before doing the creative stuff because a reminder: that's also mind consuming and that also takes effort!

Get the rest, then do the rest.

Oooh now this one really made me think.

I feel like other people who've been reading my work for a while might be able to give me better insight into this, but I do feel like I've gotten better at balancing the angst and tension of a story with romantic fluff and humor, witty banter, etc.

You can't have the lighthearted romance without the heavier notes of the keyboard, know what I mean? lol

But too much angst isn't all that fun for me either. So something I've learned in studying screenwriting is how to try and build up to those high-tension, dramatic moments, but also have the payoff and catharsis of hurt/comfort and sweet fluff. Ebbs and flows.

#25. A scene or image that lives rent-free in your head

Veeery interesting. Of my own writing or someone else's? Recently I've had scenes from Outlander (Dean Winchester x OFC | Western AU) replaying in my head, probably because I've been editing each part over and over. 😂

But also in reading Polaris by @waynes-multiverse, there's a scene where the reader has just found out that Randy (her husband) is actually alive...but she's already been in a loving relationship with Beau for a while now. This bit of description from Chapter 9 has filtered in and out of my head ever since I read it because it was so damn brilliant:

The cool, breezy autumn air whipped you across your face, a sharp, frigid sting in your lungs that burned right through to your heart. Each breath you desperately clutched was a fight for life. Your mind, moonstruck and lunatic, spun complicated cobwebs. Your feeble body and fragile bones threatened to crumble and crack underneath the devastating weight of the truth. You crouched down on the parking lot asphalt, head heavy in your shaking hands. “Hey, hey, just breathe…” Beau’s deep voice and warm hand on your back were a short-lived comfort before the first sob broke through you.

Bonus Question: Is there a character/genre you never expected to like writing for but ended up enjoying it? 🤔

That's an awesome question. I think I could have a few different answers for this, but Soldier Boy very much took me by surprise. We've talked about this before, but when I watched season 3, the first thing I thought of with his character was, How could he be redeemed?

And Break Me Down was born. 🤣 It was also my first ever enemies to lovers fic, though I didn't consciously realize that when I started developing the series. Of course, you know what happened after that. It's become a whole damn universe of fics. 😅💚

Another example would be Boaz Priestly from 10 Inch Hero. I NEVER thought I would write for that character, but after rewatching the movie last year, he was just too adorable -- and different from any role Jensen has played. I ended up writing a couple of fics for him, not knowing if I was getting his character write (like Soldier Boy lmao). But I so enjoyed writing to his quirks and writing a reader character that I thought could match him. 💜

Sleep, My Love, my Minerva McGonagall character study, which is not my usual topic! I really love how it turned out even though there's only the slightest hint of Drarry in it

Something that made you laugh

Draco imagines his thoughts as fish. All the fish are wearing round glasses. "Ridiculous," he hisses under his breath, and imagines swishing the fish away with his fingers. "Fuck," Harry Potter's voice booms over the soothing rhythms of the class's background music, played at a low volume along with sounds of the seaside. "Bloody hell fuck. Bollocks." Draco snaps his eyes open just as the stag Patronus leaps over his grunting yoga-class compatriot, landing atop Draco's pelvis and knocking him bodily to the floor. "Fuck fuck fuck bollocks fuck. Look, I-I'm quitting. I can't. Back me up, okay? Just-I know you've already-" Potter lets out another stream of curses as the Patronus bends to poke its snout into Draco's side. He lurches off his mat and smacks at the corporeal nuisance. "What are you doing?" Neither Potter nor his Patronus seem to register Draco's irritation. Once again, everyone is staring at him. The instructor, maintaining a flawless tree pose, blinks in slow-motion. Several leaves she had charmed to hover above the class fall to the floor. One of them lands directly in the mouth of the grunting bridge-pose wix and he spits it out a bit too theatrically. The Patronus lets out an anguished cry. "I'm coming," Draco whispers as loudly as he can, though he has already caused a horrible and embarrassing disruption to the class. "Give me a moment!" The Patronus does not give him a moment. It head-butts him continuously as he yanks his yoga mat into his arms in a crumpled mess and carries it out onto the pavement.

Writing almost everything in this fic :)

A scene or image that lives rent-free in your head

“Oh.” Draco’s breathless, his voice thick with all the emotions that shine in his magic. “Oh, look at you.” They look good together, in the mirror. Draco’s hands on Harry’s belly are all bathed in this golden glow. Draco’s glowing, too, his hair almost white in the sun. The way Draco grins makes Harry think he must look better than he feels, if Draco is that into him. Tears glint on Draco’s cheeks. Harry reaches up and threads his fingers through Draco’s hair, then kisses his neck.

I can see them in the mirror—from See Me and Live! Maybe these are supposed to be from other people's fics, but too late now 😬

I am very dialogue-driven when writing, so a main focus has been on giving more internal dialogue and sensory processing, setting the mood. I hope I have improved in that area. 🤞🏽

#16: Something Interesting You Researched As Part of the Process

Again, another good question.

I've been working on my series for Dean and Tori and I have done quite a bit of research into Italian and Italian American customs based on where Tori and her family are from. One thing I've learned that I found interesting is that in Italy they take quiet hours or siestas in the afternoon and many of the shops are closed during this time.

#26: Something That Inspired You This Year

This year has been very inspirational, both in the realm of writing and in my academics.

First off, my writing. I've joined a couple discord communities like @spnfanficpond and a lot of the prompts on there as well as the community has inspired me to write more and has helped me out of a awful case of writers block.

Also, shout out to @zepskies, @shanimallina87, @lamentationsofalonelypotato, yourself and many others who have inspired me through DM's and feedback on my work.

Academically, I ended up taking a course and in the process changed my whole major and have actually changed my plans to double major!

Movie of the Year - Love Lies Bleeding. I'm just so grateful to live in a world where this kind of film can get made now. It's just... unimaginable progress from 30 years ago and it moves me. KStew as a scroaty little dyke wanking in front of her cat and Chinese leftovers? We've come so far guys. 🥲

Something to do again next year - get out of the city on my own and have a little jolly with a friend. Just a day or two to be a person not just a parent.

A friend I made? Babes I know you are just fishing for compliments here. But I will indulge you anyway. I'm so happy to have found the whole Rizzles fam but especially you modest, I hope we can meet up in person in 2025.
