guys please hear me out and match my freak bc I’m thinking of writing smth like this but don’t know for which jjk man. i was just on a call with this guy who invented a big thing in my field and is the MIT director of [INSERT STEM topic]. he said that when he published his paper on the big thing, he got loads of emails from this one guy who fervently disagreed with his method and was petty enough to prove that his method wasn’t anything groundbreaking by making another method that did the same thing faster. they still beef over the internet, the petty guy subtweets abt him on his blog.

i SOOO want to write a fic like this with enemies to lovers. can you TELL i love ali hazelwood? if i were to write this, which jjk man would be this petty/do this? im conflicted between gojo and nanami bc i feel like gojo is a petty hoe and nanami would do this but it would be for the sake of science that he does that.

like imagine ur MIT director of theoretical physics, and you’ve just submitting ground breaking work in your field of quantum computing. just for Stanford theoretical classical computer scientist and professor [GOJO/NANAMI] to pop up in your inbox. you love his work and are eager to see what he has to say to you and then your heart IMMEDIATELY drops because the mf is slandering all of your work, pointing out that existing classical computers can easily do this algorithm. cue your online beef. and him publishing a shit ton of papers to prove you wrong.

a few years later, when the beef has died off and you don’t keep tabs on gojo/nanami anymore after he’s like reduced your career, you’re looking to join the quantum computing effort at Stanford as per some professors’ requests because of your talents and the research there is intriguing. but you soon find out you’re competing for that spot with others, and you need this job.

walking into the interview, you then have to double back and see gojo/nanami. turns out he’ll have to be part of the committee that evaluates your candidacy. cue the angst and heated sex

Okay so here's my thing: I figured I would hop right into part 2 of my babby Tim fic after finishing part 1, and then a really fucked up Tim/Ra's idea jumped into my head and got me by the throat, and now I have mood whiplash from my own brain/writing?!

Also, a scene from my truly stupid, self-indulgent "Jason and Tim accidentally become bros immediately" fic sprung into my sleepy mind and then poured itself out of my fingers fully formed into a Google Doc.

So. I may be writing multiple longfics at the same time. Wish me luck?!

Leon deserved SO MANY MORE major movie roles just by being beautiful and bitchy like . His 50 cent movie cameo was so fucking funny.. TY FOR SAYING THIS. GENUINELY. They all have their lil moments to solidify them as real or to reflect them being real and it's just. Mwah.

In this Essay I Will

The reason why Lex Luther is able to be one of Superman's greatest foes is because of the two's power division. They're rivals, meant to play off each other.

(this isn't a story, it's me being a pedantic a** about creative writing, jsyk)

Superman is just that - a super man. Man 2.0, if you will (while he's on Earth, that is, but I am NOT going down that rabbit hole today or ever, thanks), and as a result, he's basically unkillable in any fight that requires him to respond physically to threats.

Superman has no physical weaknesses (except Kryptonite, and just wait, we'll get to that one). He's not afraid of property damage, nor does he have Batman's killing rule. One does not simply walk into a physical fight with Superman and expect to live, much less win. You can't defeat Superman on a living battlefield.

But physical fights aren't the only battlefield that supers have to fight on. They also have to deal with POLITICS and the court of PUBLIC OPINION.

By basic necessity, heroes work outside the system - they have to, the system is corrupt and likely to use the hero for their own agendas, and heroes can't risk being sent to prison if they want to keep fighting for the people. Their identity would be exposed, their families immediately put in danger, and they can't get out without being on the run.

The problem with working outside the system, however, is that it means that you can't change the system itself. Heroes fight the symptoms of corruption, they don't fix it. Daredevil and Batman (when he's acting as Bruce Wayne) are exceptions to this rule, however, Superman is NOT.

Superman has no ability to change the way the public sees him. Clark Kent isn't about to win any awards as a news reporter, either, so it's not like his civilian side can help him sway the public and fix his image either.

Lex Luther, however, DOES have the power to affect public opinion - he has no physical abilities to fight Superman with, so he doesn't fight him physically. He's one of Superman's greatest foes because he's able to change the battlefield Superman has to fight him in. He's clever enough to figure out how to make all of Superman's physical advantages completely worthless, and can even make those advantages a weakness, by building Superman up as some potential threat to humanity. He's smart, and he fights smart.

Which is why Kryptonite is such utter bullshit.

I truly hate Kryptonite, because it's a product of laziness and lack of understanding towards some of the basic tenets of writing rival characters. Some artists couldn't understand how Lex Luther could possibly be a relevant threat to Superman when he's just a low-powered human, and so they came up with some stupid ultimate kill switch to turn off Superman's powers.

Now, kill switches can be written cleverly - it's very hard to do so, but they can.

The problem is that Kryptonian is simultaneously portable, accessible (because I swear, every villain has a stash of it at this point), and has a sustained effect. You're only supposed to pick two out of the three - if it's portable and accessible, then it can't sustain it's effect (like a bomb, it blows up and that's it, if the hero survives that one explosion then your f-cked), if it's accessible and sustained, then it can't be portable (meaning the villain has to lure the hero into it), if it's sustained and portable, it can't be accessible - and Kryptonite is accessible. I don't care that in the series "lore" it's supposed to be hard to get - when almost every villain can pull it out and does so at least once, then it's not hard to get. What the author/artist is telling you isn't matching up with what they're showing you.

And that's bad writing. Period.

Once again, like I said, kill switches can be written well, it's just hard to do so. If you don't put in the work, taking your time while fleshing out the mechanics, though, then it won't work. And Kryptonite doesn't work. It simply doesn't.

We didn't need this. We already had something that was way more interesting, and now that Kryptonite exists, Lex Luther's threat level has dropped down to being just another mook in a long, boring line of mooks.

It's such a shame, honestly.
