one of theee weirdest things abt going to uni, as someone who grew up eating strictly 3 meals a day, sometimes 2, watching my mum skip meals so me and my sister could eat, having grilled cheese (a luxury, because cheese and butter) for dinner --- has been realising that i grew up so much poorer than most of my classmates. like something about that is so alienating. you hear someone say "i grew up without money" and you expect it to be similar or worse to your "without money" but actually, it means "two second-hand cars and higher education wasn't even a question". and that's not to dismiss the insecurity that must come w/ realising that your parents are living above their means or that ur life is way below the average for your school or whatever, i really don't have beef w/ middle class folks like that (my energy is better spent elsewhere). but like, as a kid, you hear "poor" and you think that looks like your life, at least if ur parents are honest about the situation, and then realising that their situation isn't similar to yours at all??? that they've never been hungry? that they've never even questioned the opportunity for education beyond high school? it's so weird!!!!!!! it's a baseline of security i've never experienced. i can't say it any other way except "our experiences are not the same" lol

ok so i finished that post late at night yesterday and scheduled it for today, but turns out making that post was a mistake because (nsfw storytime ✨)

i have a roommate named unit 8290 and over the weekend both unit 6751 (my other roommate there's lore here) and i decided to spend the weekend out of town, and i got back on saturday night (yesterday) while unit 6751 is supposed to return sunday evening (today). we have a calendar in our quarters where we write down when we'll be away from the residence

this is where i admit i fucked up because when i got back, i realized that i accidentally wrote that i would be out thurs-sun instead of thurs-sat

when i got home last night i edited it so it would be accurate because i'm neurotic like that, and so unit 8290 gets the heads up.

but also unit 8290 wasn't in the residence when i edited this and i suppose, got home late. because if unit 8290 noticed then maybe i wouldn't have WOKEN UP TO UNIT 8290 FUCKING MOANING AT NOON WHILE GOING DOWN ON KINDRED 192 (unit 8290's boyfriend)

which is OKAY whatever every roommate situation is bound to have something like this. it sucks but it happens. Why Did This Have To Be The One Day I Don't Have My Airpods Under My Pillow

so that's how my morning routine started. like 30 minutes once they were done i figured this would be when i leave my quarters to go use the laundry room and get some milk for my cereal

like i know they didn't realize i was in the residence but WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE IT OPEN EVEN IF YOU'RE TOTALLY ALONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

so i have to walk past and try very hard not to look at kindred 192 taking a nap while unit 8290 watches netflix, luckily both covered, and door very wide open so it's hard not to notice

i have to walk past them a few times because my quarters are at the very par end of the residence, and theirs is close to the communal area with the laundry room. but luckily, luckily, once i'm done and i bring a bowl full of milk back to my quarters the door is closed.

i don't think we're gonna speak a single word to each other for the rest of the day
