I was reading some old Reylo posts and came across a user on here saying that even if Rian Johnson had directed TROS, it still would've been bad, because of interference from higher ups (Rey Skywalker was a consistent theme across the two scripts - but imo, I think that might've just been because they were collectively mad she wasn't a Skywalker lol).

If this isn't an annoying and tiresome question, what do you think? It's hard to speculate but I do find it a bit fun, because there's always been that 'what if' for me that if Rian had done it, maybe it wouldn't have been awful... I guess the implication here is that, was TROS always going to be bad?

I'm ruminating on it a bit because it seems like Disney has kind of segmented the SW fanbases across their shows - Prequel stuff, worldbuilding stuff, OT stuff, and now the romance/Force storyline stuff. All of these combined elements is what made SW so potent, what made something like Reylo so powerful, but it's what makes it a hard brand to sell.

What we heard was that Kennedy asked Rian to do it, but he said he needed more time to write the script and Iger/DLF was unwilling to move the release date. I'm not sure how verified that ever was, but it's the most depressing fucking thing imaginable if true. The same short-term only, immediate profit and your quarterly bonus over the integrity of the company and the franchise which has been destroying Disney as a studio over the last decade or so.

I do think the most blame for tros must ultimately rest with Iger, but it's not like that absolves JJerio from responsibility for how bad it actually is.

I have answered this exact question before, and speculated on related stuff a few times, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find that post for you.

To me, if we learnt anything from DotF being a thing, it's that there was never anyone at the wheel, plotgate was totally true, and the directors were allowed to do whatever they wanted. If Rian had been making the third film from the start, I don't think they would have tried to impose any major story beats on him. The reason it became such a shitshow was The Book of Henry came out and they realised Colin's script was totally unacceptable way too late.

And once the can of meddling was open and you're back to JJ 'no thoughts, head empty' Abrams as a workman director, the suits were basically writing epIX with Terrio's incest fever dreams as connective tissue. They kept elements from Colin's version because they were trying to save time and use as much of the work which had already been done as possible. There was no commitment to any of those ideas, it's just incompetence and with no direction or ideas of their own, they were making a reddit checklist to try to please the whiners rather than writing any actual story.

Like, none of this would have happened if Rian were involved, because Rian would have written an actual story.

SW is mythology and very few people working at DLF seem to have ever understood that or have any idea what it means. Disney has segmented it because that's what they know, they want to have different product to sell to different demographics to maximise saturation and profit. That's their business model. They don't understand the foundation, the Saga itself, and its universal appeal, they seem content to let that stay dead and focus on compartmentalising and pandering to smaller, separate audiences.

OMG so the “trio” aren’t really close! Oscar outright said Finn is Poe’s family, no mention of Rey. Then Daisy adds that she is a part of that relationship BUT SHE KEPT APART due to her force sensitivity! WE WERE RIGHT! The Trio dynamic isn’t that essential to the plot! The central relationship is between Rey and Ben!

We been knew. Here’s part of the quote from the article titled, “Star Wars: The Truth About Kylo Ren and Rey’s Connection - Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver discuss the intergalactic will they/won’t they” (LULZ):

“It’s not about just one person,” Isaac says of how his character deals with the strain of leadership and heroism in The Rise of Skywalker. “[It’s about] reaching out to his family, and particularly Finn is his family.”

To be fair, the article does say that Rey is a part of that relationship (implying that it’s important to Rey), however, as with everything else, it seems to be complicated:

Ridley says Rey is also part of that relationship, but kept apart a bit due to her Force sensitivity. Will Kylo Ren and Rey reforge their own connection? And, if they do, will it be love or simply friendship that unites them? The answer, Driver says, is incredibly complicated: “I don’t think it’s any one thing. The strength in what Rian [Johnson] wrote and what J.J. [Abrams] wrote is it’s never all one thing.”

Coupled with the fact that Daisy has already said that there will be some tension between Rey and her friends (HMMM I WONDER WHY), and we’ve got ourselves some fun times!

Excuse me as I rub my hands together gleefully as my speculation that Rey would feel isolated from her friends/Resistance because of her Force powers comes to FRUITION. Also, good job on totally avoiding answering the question, Daisy lol. I also appreciate Oscar’s committment to Poe being committed to Finn, he’s nothing if not consistent in that regard.

Do you think the “Kylo falls down a hole” part of the leak could be accurate?

I think that the "leaks" can eat my entire ass. Kind of funny how the "holy Trinity of leakers" has been dead fucking silent lately, isn't it? Almost like most of their bullshit is based off of trailer speculation and not a whole fucking lot else.

Anyway, even if Ben DID fall down a hole, that's not a good way to stay dead in SW land. Like Palps is back, my money's on Han being back, Maul lived for ages on his dark side energy and Kenobi hate boner AND he was cut in half so....

Oh, also, Cal's master in Jedi Fallen Order ALSO gets thrown down a shaft and, guess fucking what! She's not dead. Seriously.

So whatever. I never trust Reddit. Have fun with it, I don't have the time or inclination to worry about what's likely bullshit, or wildly misinterpreted marketing speculation. *Coughs in the leakers said there'd be CGI Leia and JJ said definitively that this ain't happening.

And maybe you don't mean the second part of that whole shitshow, the "never to be seen again." Which LOL yeah fucking right. Falling down a hole? Ok, sure. But as I said above, not staying dead down there.

Also, my money's on a Force healing moment/pieta moment with Rey, so also no. But like, if he DID it would be a oh no! He fell down a shaft! And then 5 minutes later he'd be bouncing the fuck out of there to do something dumb, get mortally wounded, only for Rey to Force heal him back to life. The end. There's what I thinks gonna happen lol.

OK, Speculation time

Richard E Grant's character, Allegient General Pryde, is really the body possessed by Palpatine, and the newly revealed Sith Troopers are commanded by him, ousting Kylo Ren as Supreme Leader. To combat the new regime, Kylo calls upon the Knights of Ren and loyal troopers, but eventually realizes exactly who Pryde is (i.e. Palpatine) and tries to reunite with Rey to defeat Palpatine once and for all.

Also, I think the device in Pryde's hand in the Vanity Fair picture with General Hux is a new lightsaber of sorts.

You can tell the TROS VF article was written by a woman and the TLJ one was written by a man. The TLJ one was so dismissive of romance and shipping.

Lol. I’m so glad they got Joanna to write the article about Rey and Kylo’s connection. She’s great and a shipper to boot. REYLO, she even tweeted this out:

It’s really great to see some shipping-friendly articles being written out there (esp for VF, I mean, this is major) considering it’s a huge part of the fandom (despite what some want to believe).

And, to be fair, I know plenty of great guys who do love shipping and ship Reylo, it’s just unfortunate that so many of the people who end up writing these articles are so quick to dismiss it. Not Joanna! And I hope this trend continues considering it’s one of the major stories of the ST and will continue to be important as the story develops for TRoS. Additionally, I hope they’re starting to realize that shipping is important. And it’s more than just wanting two characters to kiss (though, sometimes it’s that too).

I have never seen a fandom dive so deep before and it pisses me off that it gets dismissed as “shipper garbage” when Reylos have been predicting the outcome of this gd story since the start.

If the leaks are true, do you think explicit reylo is not gonna happen or jp didn't think it "cool" enough to be important to write about?

I don't think the leaks are true, not from a plot standpoint anyways (like undoubtedly they've seen some marketing/merch materials, but story details? GTFO lol. Is that why the "summary" keeps changing? Yeah).

Jp hates Reylo and is a dismissive asshole who's done nothing for my fandom, so IDGAF what he thinks.

Anyway, Reylo is canon. It actually says that on my ask box. So, it's canon and it's getting a happy ending. Like disgustingly over the top happy ending.

Wanna know how I know? I trust Rian Reylo Johnson with my life. That's how. And JJ hates depressing endings so...

When you watch the teaser trailer again, you can see that the first scene where Rey runs from Ben tie silencer is compose of different shots (the background changes) which means they have tried this stunt multiple times now. They are training!

I know some people are down about it, but I just don’t have any extra energy to be negative about this. Plus, to me, her face looks determined and focused. More of a “I’ve fucking got this,” than a “OH NOESSS.” Obviously, individual interpretations will vary, but that’s what I’m going with.

I’m not sure what you’re individually noting in the shot (my eyes aren’t as good as yours), but I definitely get the sense that there’s more going on than we’re privy to.
