I never understood why show-makers would not understand why people were shipping characters when they literally made them (for jokes) acting like a couple or be misunderstood as one. Even when if it for dramatic irony, what is happening in the show is cannon in the show no matter if it is for a joke or not.

It's not a misunderstanding if the characters actually act like that.

He's only met Kitty Forman a few times, but knows enough from Eric not to like her. She's clingy, doesn't see Eric as his own person, and anyone who does see him as a his own person is automatically a ‘threat’ and they’re just ‘stealing her baby boy’.

Kitty doesn’t know what to say. She didn’t expect Buddy to stand his ground like this. She always thought he was a nice boy who respected his elders.

Before Kitty could say anything else, Red decided to intervene. "Kitty, let the boy see Eric. He's way better company than the other dumbasses in the basement anyway." He then looks towards Buddy's direction. "He's in his room right now."

1. Eric/Donna. Ah, the precious childhood friends to lovers trope. The OTP. Eric gives Donna stability and calms her down, and Donna gets Eric to stand up for himself and follow through with his intentions.
