🤔 You know, I had another little thought the other day about Ethereals (because I never have enough of those!) on like... atmospheric stuff that transpires when they go full radiance or even partly so that isn't just incinerating and irradiating everything around them. Again, they have a very prominent electrical motif going on along with the spooky star stuff.

It's been a given for a while they obviously mess with electronics, whenever this happens (very apt in so many ways - much like ghosts in media - much like actual, real deal solar flares can mess with stuff here on earth too - I love how the electrical/ionic stuff does a perfect tango with the spooky and star stuff!) But I had an additional, even spookier thought that they just... emanate this freaky "electrical" or "radioactive" atmosphere if you do manage to get close enough to them without any problems with the heat. Like... a really good example of what I'm trying to say here is they do be bringing in those Little Nightmares 2 Thin Man vibes. (I love this guy. I love his portrayal so much. I have to show you what I mean.)

Media-wise, there is visual and sound design to him that is just downright unsettling in a very electrical way and I love it and swear, it would be an Ethereal thing, whenever they're getting up there in the radiance department. Even the heartbeat is there along with it.~

(Which, for those who don't know: Ethereals pulse - their Ethereal appendages and whatnot have a pulse that is synchronized to their hearts. They have a tell there, for those who want one. You can tell how emotionally compromised they may be from the speed and strength of the pulse and whatnot.~)

When thinking about Vance, I definitely think about Thin Man (and yes, obviously, to some extent, Slender Man. But Thin Man is where it's at for me, here.)

Though all Ethereals may have this effect, Vance's darker color scheme and just - everything about him, even the way he moves, in ways - would really remind you of this. That most recent WIP, I can just see him approaching you slowly and going all Thin Man on your senses. Hahaha!

(Behind the scenes artist time: I even messed with the RGB separate layers a little harder in Photoshop to add to that effect on that WIP. It's a wonderful little something to add to some pieces as it is, by the way! Some art programs already have filters that do it all for you - the "VHS effect" - I've always done it manually through Photoshop, though. I can show any of y'all how to do it anytime, if you'd like to try it too.~)

- He's working at his usual vegetables farm, wiping off sweats off his forehead as Kung Lao yells to him across the farm that he's going to the toilet. Raiden nods, and continued his work. The sun starts to drops, creating a beautiful orange mixed with yellow scenery on the sky. That's when Y/N passed by. Their features.. looks ethereal when the sun shines through their face. Raiden caught Y/N's eyes, and froze in spot. Y/N waved at him, and he waved back. Y/N walked away, and he watched. The carrot he was holding fell onto the ground, and he'd stare at the direction Y/N went. He blushed, hard. Harder than he ever did. "Oh, no."

2. Kung Lao 💋🌷

- Kung Lao walks around the village, finally having a day off from his work. Raiden is already at Madam Bo's restaurant, and Kung Lao passed by a new bakery. Kung Lao peers inside, and saw Y/N behind the cashier, talking gently and respectfully to an older customer. His eyes widened, falling inlove immediately. Their looks, features and gentle voice. Oh My Gosh. He felt like running around and crushing himself. He didn't notice that he was lingering at the door, and Y/N caught his eyes. Y/N asked if he wants to buy or look for anything, and he shook his head immediately. "N- Nope-! Uh, just- Yknow, looking around. Might stop by soon! Bye!" Kung Lao stubbles, and quickly walked off.

3. Johnny Cage 🕶 💚 (idk b4 he got married? after his divorce??)

- (Monk assistant Y/N) Johnny walks around the Wu Shi's Academy, taking every picture of every beautiful scenery he can find. Kenshi adviced him not to use his phone much, but who cares ?? It was until he walked past a group of monks, who he simply greets. But then, he passed by a.. particular person. Y/N. As far as he knows, Y/N is one of the monks assistant. He stops in his tracks, and slowly turns around where Y/N talks to the monks gently. His eyes widened, and he felt warm on his (face) cheeks. His hands unconsciously takes a picture of Y/N silently. Beautiful / Handsome scenery...

4. Kenshi Takahashi ❤ 🖤 (After he got blinded by Mileena, but still able to see w/ Sento.)

- Kenshi stands with his arms crossed onto his chest near the bridge at the Koi fishes pond, silently enjoying the sound of gentle water and fishes. It was until, Sento shifts behind him, and his eyes vision brightens. He'd look around in confusion, and saw Y/N. That's when his chest puffs slightly, his body feeling warm suddenly. He'd shift in his position, and decides to walk away from Y/N. (Denial era Kenshi)

I had a neat little thought today. About them. (Surprised? I know I am!)

It is neat, though! It's neat because it involves Science™.

Old scribble pertaining to The Anomaly. Sal wouldn't be Radiant in this context, but it still gets the point across!

As funny as it is to imagine Sal occasionally going all Ethereal mode (but again, not full on Radiant; very important) spreading her wings and zip zooming around Gaia between the trio, Kuja and other locations of interest, it's a very real possibility that turns up later on when it seems far more likely that the NA (Nova Administration - governmental body in Anon) doesn't actually survey that planet. There are other Ethereal lifeforms present that haven't been whisked away in years and studies surrounding them that already exist and lack an evident connection, etc. Part of Sal's observations just lead us to this theoretical point and she does the thing because of it. That's all I'm getting at there.

There are also plenty of rural areas where she can land (and take off) and have time to let herself cool off and the radiation levels die down (in landing cases,) so it can be done to a somewhat safer extent too. That said, however... Now and again, she can come in a little too hot - quite literally! And given that she stops by to visit Kuja from time to time, that means some of those landings are made in the desert. And take off is always hot...

So, Monster Hunter Wilds, right? For those familiar, I love the desert storms and Rey Dau there - they're among some of my favorite things in the game - because they remind me of Ethereals! You may be able to see where I'm going with this.

Essentially, some of Sal's landings (and leavings) may make for some really cool glass formations in the sand.~

Gwen kept glancing to her phone screen, but the short message Miles had sent her had not changed.

Again, she let her head fall onto her desk with a groan.  She wanted to do amends to her friend, but her guilt weight heavy even after saving Miles and communicating thru text wasn’t the best way to convey emotions.

Before she could do something stupid like text more that she might regret when Miles was currently at school as well, someone fell into the chair next to her.

“You look awful.”, Em Jay was commenting with a soft smile, that contradicted her harsh words.

Gwen’s (former) bandmate was dressed in soft pastel colors, classing tastefully with the easy punk aesthetic she was going for. Ripped jeans with silver chains, soft pink off-shoulder shirt, paired with a violet studded leather jacket. For once her kinky hair was bound in a messy bun. Did Em Jay get her ears pierced another time? Gwen didn’t have enough time to look but she was sure she counted four silver-studs in each lob.

“Well, I feel awful.”, she answered sprawling out so that most of her torso was now laying on the cold hard surface of her desk. She could have said something clever like ‘you aren’t a sight ether’, but a) did she have little energy to pretend she wasn’t miserable and b) was it straight up not true. Mary-Jane Watson always looked good.
