And like, the thing is it is absolutely something you need to do your research on and actually try to UNDERSTAND if you're going to do anything with it, but it's also something that I feel... Genuinely makes... A lot of sense for his character, and should be an aspect included in more of his stories. I feel like more people are understanding and acknowledging he's a fundamentally traumatized and mentally ill character and you really can't divorce him from that without changing him entirely and giving NO reason for Why He's Like This aside from ... Idk... Immaturity, but I feel like a reliance and addiction to drugs, specifically sleeping pills in the comics and the YJ cartoon, is something that.. fits, very clearly, into the other patterns of Who He Is.

Like, he's experienced non stop trauma since an extremely young age, he's been a victim of abuse, which means he almost DEFINITELY has nightmares like probably every other hero out there. he canonically has anger issues he tries REALLY HARD to keep under control but his inner monologue and when he's alone he gets very negative, and sometimes lashes out at people who, usually, just want to help. he's depressed, he seems to struggle to make genuine connections with people even tho he desperately needs closeness and affection (probably part of why he acts so flirty, he wants physical closeness but lacks the stability to really let himself get close emotionally, his goofy nature is also a way to keep people at a distance without pushing them away completely. He wants them close, but not close enough to see who he actually is), he canonically jokes all the time because otherwise he would be depressed, so he's always running from his real feelings by putting on a mask and pretending to be something he's not, or at least a different version of himself that isn't totally genuine (it's an aspect of him, sure, he is genuinely a fun loving silly guy, but most of the time it's also just... A self defense mechanism from reality and HIMSELF) and so much more like. Idk man.

All of that adds up to a very traumatized person with avoidant tendencies who actively tries not to think about anything bad, sad, upsetting, and... That's all stuff that often leads people towards dependence and addiction of various kinds. You see it in other characters like Roy Harper for all the same reasons, tbh... They're actually pretty similar dudes depending on what versions you're looking at. Same w Dick Grayson, tho afaik he's never had a drug problem, Im p sure he HAS has alcohol problems.

All of them were just silly ass kids who got into the hero business way too young, had awful shit happen to them before and/or during, and did what they had to do to try to cope.

If anything I've said about Roy or dick is incorrect, pls correct me! I don't know their lore quite as well as I know my Dear Boy, Garfield's... But I do think that despite the difference in age (which rlly isn't much, especially once they're all adults) these three could all probably get a lot out of like. Just. Talking to each other. Mask off, literally, no sugarcoating, they all know how shit REALLY works, they could be honest with each other, ykno? But also I think gar and dick should fist fight in a Denny's parking lot at 3 am. Does that make sense?

(also btw most references I make to "canon" are what was true prior to all the retcons, so anything from 1960s-2011 I believe? Bc everything they did with him since then except for a few things more recently have been absolute trash garbage, they're only in the last few years actually taking the character seriously again and still haven't really... hi caden i know this is advice but u seemed willing to help anons cheat academia stuff before <3 i am currently fucked in terms of getting into the ivory towers* womp womp. it's fine bc most of what i want from academia isn't really limited to academia, except for one thing which is institutional credentials/library access :(

i know that there's: cold emailing current authors, requesting specific files on online sites, requesting library borrows as an independent researcher (least likely to work :(), and spamming (smartly) the limited digital scan requests that some libraries offer. but other than those options, is there a way to get something close to actual institutional access? do i rlly just need to hunker down and make enough copyright-hating twitter mutuals that happen to also be an academic and beg for their login accounts

*yadda yadda it's bc i have a cruddy online masters and no bachelors <- unfixable i fear. i guess i could grind like. self publishing essays and making industry connections and funding small anthropological or historical research projects on my own and Then applying for a masters (which i think im gonna have to pay for lol) and even then it's probably a low chance of acceptance innit?

piracy? i mean i'm not discounting the value of institutional access but i have it & still get most of my stuff illegally lol. directory of open access journals also has some stuff tho they aren't flagship journals, and a jstor free account gives you two articles a week or something like that. mostly i use anna's archive and stc, most non-academic interlibrary loan won't have the subscription money for journals but you can check if your libraries are funded better. borrowing credentials doesn't always work because the schools typically have a policy against & will flag you based on location data lol. i get caught in that just using a vpn. it's worth trying tho

i would not under any circumstances advise anyone to try being an actually independent scholar it's impoverishing and an incredible amount of work for basically no pay reward or recognition. when academics use that ohrase it typically means someone who has a job paying their bills fulltime, often adjuncting or as university staff but could be something else, it's not that they're actually living off the proceeeds of their scholarship. research is basically not profitable in itself outside the infrastructure of an institution or lab paying you im so sorry. it's not absolutely impossible to get into an ma program with no ba but it is hard and will depend on how old you are and how much career experience you can reasonably put up on your cv. some departments might be willing to just have you audit some core undergrad classes but this is something you would have to meet with them and discuss on a case by case basis. my blanket advice will also always be don't pay for grad school in the 'academic' disciplines (lib arts, sciences, anythig that's not a professional degree with a guaranteed job path you have a clear way of entering) these aren't useful degrees for much else at the entry level and universities will bleed you dry on tuition alone

i am both in love and insanely curious as to why he calls Folly 'the dreamer', it adds some kinda layer to their relationship that i yearn to pick apart like an operation board game.

the balls this guy has to essentially deadname her, not even just around her co-workers, but to the general public if we consider the NPCS are mostly aware of our existence and each others when on the elevator, and you can sense the anger, yet she inevitably gives into what he asks, it's fucking insane, probably the closest another NPC has gotten to learning ANYTHING about how she feels about her past that isn't some kinda 'random emo splurge'. its sad to know that thats all she thinks life is, pain, suffering, anguish, but thats all she knows now, that damn parasite

another half of me wants to read it as understanding and acknowledgement rather than something hes doing out of malice and authority, like there is some sense of understanding that they're both disjointed people, mentally broken and unable to fix themselves to their greatest ability, both striving to become whole again just in different ways.

they're coworkers who, if they sat down with each other and talked like normal people (which they cannot do) would probably have a lot more in common than they'd expect, but i can also see them both standing around toolbox speedway watching people explode or whatever just for the fun of it and having a laugh together if they were both bored. it genuinely, in this situation, really depends on both of their moods and how fast the wind blows

seeing her try to interact at least slightly is very on brand, i love how no matter what she tries to bring the best out of people and herself, even if they don't share or reciprocate it.

rlly interesting to see her memory get fuzzy as soon as the dreamer is mentioned too, yeah. i think the only character who's gone through similar is poob during a conversation WITH melanie, i have a feeling theres something in her brain that is wired to completely block out conversations about her or her past, similar to a trauma response of sorts, but 100% a legitimate software thing in this case bc shes a tv head.

going back to this though, thats absolutely fucking tragic, because the only time that really doesn't happen is in conversations with folly herself, where melanie CAN'T ignore it, has to stare her past right in her face, and desperately wish it was the way it was before as she begs her not to look at her. she'd rather forget all of the good moments she had with her instead of remember and have to deal with who she used to be friends with staring back at her as nothing but a monstrous husk of what she used to be, all caused by trauma she probably has no idea about and could never even attempt to fix.

I like how you write darven I think their relationship is sooo interesting with Darcy being extremely toxic towards riven. I feel like if riven had never gotten with Darcy, and just went straight to musa, their relationship would’ve been much more healthier, but since Darcy was rivens first serious relationship (imo) I think it probably rlly warped rivens mind of what relationships are supposed to be like. And also just how he views himself. (Also I noted that you are also a fellow tears-in-rain enjoyer 😋)

That I am, lol. Hers is actually the first rewrite I ever read! The fact that it's from the guys POV is just sugar on the cream. I do think Darcy having been Riven's first girlfriend (listen, from the character alone I could come up with a myriad of exes for him, but the fact remains that he IS only 17, so the same way I don't accept Bloom having had a serious relationship on Earth before Sky, I don't quite see Riven having exes either) really fucked up his way of looking at relationships and his and Musa's suffered for it, but I also think he's riddled with enough personal drama that they'd manage to make it nice and messy even without Darcy's help. However, the WAY his relationship with Musa is affected with Darcy greatly differs depending on the way it worked. In my usual verse, I actually think it heightens the miscommunication to the 100s because while Musa expects Riven to read her mind basically, Riven LITERALLY IS USED TO HIS GF DOING EXACTLY THAT. Not only that, he's used to just *knowing* what she wants bc she sends him actual palpable telepathic signals. I think several times there was a situation where he extends his palm towards her and she's like "???" and he's like "????" and she's like "?????" and only then does he realize he didn't ask her to hand him the water, he just thought it in his head. Also, some funny shenaningans like the mind conversations in How I Met Your Mother, when they're sending each other signals and are like "hell yea he/she gets it" but they actually had completely different conversations lol. However, if Darcy was outright abusive, then Riven is way worse, way more secretive, and has preemptive bouts of anger because he's pushing back automatically because he thinks he's gonna get pushed. And if Musa is angry about something, he manages to escalate the situation to the nines because instead of just recognizing that his girlfriend is angry and yeah that happens, he thinks he's like, this close to physical violence. Moderation is not something he's familiar with lol. Also, I think he has slight manic episodes where he pretty much disassociates from all issues they may have- and Musa feels like she has to go alongside with it because hey their relationship is turbulent, she'd be crazy if she didn't go along with it when he's actually agreeable, but actually he's the only one actually riding the high and she's clinging along, burying some of the issues that are bothering her until she explodes. BUT I still think they can and will work as a couple and she's the reason why I gave Riven love for music (Darcy's ballet thing came after just to bother Musa, it's there FOR Musa) and the love for music scene. He's not a performer nor does he want to be, but he gets it. And it's the stuff that they just naturally get about each other that keeps the bridge standing while they're working through all the shit they do not get. Because lets be real, these 2 dumdums don't get themselves. How can they fully get each other? And speaking of Riven getting it, I actually bet he was on Melody several times for concerts prior to season 1. As a dragonrider, I actually think he can get tickets for free, backstage access, you name it. (which is ironic bc with his Androsi stipend he absolutely can afford the tickets, but it's always like that isn't it. The rich get it for free lol. Assholes.)

well . for one micah's family has never been well off so they could never afford much for birthdays (especially when the twins were born, and then when rosie was born)

after rosie was born (when micah was like 10) their mama got rlly sick and like a rlly bad immune system and stuff. thats around when their dad has to work all the time, he's barely ever home, micah starts taking care of the kids (im so fr micah basically raises rosie)

the christmas of 1966 (so a year before canon year) theres the sickness going around and stuff and but they wanna spend christmas with their mama so theyre being rlly careful. but they weren't careful enough because she got sick and she passes away shortly after like very beginning of january 1967

everyone is so caught up in the grief and funeral planning and stuff no one remembers micah's birthday or even thinks of it. micah certainly doesn't. when he does remember like days afterwards he just feels sick. his mama just died his dad has fucked off to wheverver, his siblings are greiving and basically fully dependent on him . he doesn't want to celebrate or even think abt it

micah is such a mama's boy :( theres sooo much angst with this too. theres so much angst around micah and his parents and then his relationships with his siblings and their relationship with their parents.... augh

I was just wondering how do you go about writing dialogue? Yk characterizations and all that. I don’t know how to make natural banter or how to see how much a character would actually reveal about themselves. Bc like ppl have filters to what they actual say and I tend to try to resolve everything too quickly and unrealistically. So any advice would be appreciated!

hmm okay, this one is a little tricky for me to answer because dialogue is probably the aspect of writing that has always come the most naturally to me so it's not something I actively think about. but I'll try my best to give advice!

first off, what's most important is to make sure you know your character. know what their core traits are, and use that to determine how the character is going to act in a given situation. now, if you're writing fanfic and more specifically if you're writing an au, once you understand the core of the character from the original media, make sure you understand your specific au version of the character as well. what's their background? how has that influenced the character to be different from the original canon character? how do their core traits— the ones you have to hold onto to keep the character 'in character'—still shine through even in this different world?

then, less specifically, how does the character think? what are they feeling about the situation they're currently in?

basically, if you understand who your character is and where their head is at, that's going to make writing dialogue a lot easier. you need to understand the emotions the characters are going through, and how they're going to handle those emotions.

for example: in stars, a lot of stars!wilbur's dialogue is influenced both by how he was raised, but also by his own paranoia and anxiety. he's been raised as royalty with the expectation that he will become his brother's advisor. he's been taught how to participate in political negotiations and understands how these political games are played. so when he speaks on these matters, he phrases things more eloquently than tommy does because he knows how to 'dress these words up' like most politicians do. at the same time though, he's paranoid about who they can trust, and scared of what will happen if things go wrong. depending on who he's speaking to, he reveals some information but not everything, depending on how much he trusts the person and what his relationship with them is.

I wish I could give better advice then that but just try to be familiar with your character and understand where their head is at.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? god um ok. one sec. it's definitely 白镜 - White Mirror. tragic lesbians... most of what i write has a happy or at least ambiguous ending but this one follows canon so it's a tragedy instead

What's your all-time favorite ship? oh man... i am fickle and my tastes change by the week, but i think i will always have a soft spot for einsla, even if i dont write them much

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will? never say never but probably the seongjoong royalty au. i had it planned and everything but then people started discoursing around eden and the planned ending i wrote was potentially too topical, so i waited and then i lost steam.

What are your writing strengths? flow i think? ive always been pretty good at keeping things moving at a good pace. i edit myself a lot (and practice editing on some actual published books too!) so its become second nature to chop and change and move things around.

What are your writing weaknesses? actually writing. just kidding. probably that when i get stuck on something i tend to focus only on the fact that im stuck and cannot continue until i have unstuck myself

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? depends on what is meant my this! if it's about honorifics in dialogue (eg, hyung, -chan, dajie etc) i support it, since a lot don't translate well to english. Same with terms of endearment like -ito and -ie. if it's whole dialogue, it really depends. am i supposed to be able to understand the dialogue? is it something that could've been written just as well with 'he says, in [language]', does the author understand what they're writing, is it a text based or verbal conversation? does the pov character understand what's being said? (personally the best way to have dialogue in other languages is if the pov character isn't supposed to understand it. but always be aware that a native speaker of that language may still read the fic)

PROMPT #1 :

so dolly is the secondary host of sorts, or like. a delegate/errand girl that likes fashion and hates everypne's guts (unless they like the color pink or treat her nicely, etc). she's not that picky with food, so idt she would like... NOT eat taco bell, but i do think that she wouldn't frequent it bc of the memes and allegations about it being a one-way to the bathroom... but dont knock it if you havent tried it, right? is that the saying??

i truthfully have never had taco bell myself before (im mr bruise), so i just have the ph menu pulled up and i'm looking at the images. according to other people within this same convo though: "ummm its very yummy and its basically a glorified laxative", "yes! i love going to restaurants and telling the chefs that their food did more for me as an aggressive pooping device then as an edible meal", "It looks good but tastes good depending on if u hate urself or not, and then the violent explosion in the bathroom is the kicker". so on and so forth. i have very mixed feeling abt this

(he/him) this guy is the head honcho, if you absolutely must know. the main guy, the one who pulls the strings, and is for SOME REASON someone's object of concerning affection... you know who you are.

the node monsters (angler variants) — he doesn't really react much. maybe he'd have to like, get around the mechanics of the other ones, but it's basically a cakewalk. does not gaf about them icl, and eventually just thinks of them as annoyances.. like "ugh, just when i was going to get that defibrillator... what a hassle!"

the good people — he's actually really good at discerning them from the good doors... but by really silly means (and im prpjecting). if there's no nodes to interrupt, he'll stand in front of the sign and stare at it 'til it flickers, OR listenm really closely for when they do bc there's this electric crackle sound that happens... has no problemn w them and is even like. he'd take inspo from tehem for a motive

squiddles — those things piss him off more. the reason he went lightless for his first few runs of the game and got the achievement during his ONE successful run... the troll face one rubs him the wrong way and he almost broke his setup when he got it

eyefestation — he thoight that having his camera sensitivity a little higher would help. it did not

he could 100% hack the game to make it winnable for himself, but he insists on doing it normally so that he can "have the real experience"

DOLLY — YOU CANNOT DO SHIT WITH HER

angler gang — doesnt give a shit abt them bc they're "easy" (she's the one that introduced the game after playing it for months) and keeps trying to manifest and/or summon pandemonium instead. hates it when she gets chainsmoker and is thoroughly elated if she gets what she wants

the good people — got the "fool me once twice thrice" achievement. that's all you need for this hc. let that speak for itself

squiddles — thinks they're cute and said that toxin only makes them aggro because he's 'anti introvert' or he's 'scaring the hoes'. got the fuckass teletubby sun achiebement for making one go almost kill her

eyefestation — in a group game, she makes toxin and four go ahead while she hides in a locker bc she sucks. sucks at minigames and will suck at the simplest of eyefest encounters

side hc but she probably 100% all the achievements + bought all the gamepasses bc She Is A Gamer

INTELLIGENCE UNIT FOUR — HACKMAXXING

(it/she; those dalla dalla girls, yes) the equivalent of glados or monokuma or re nemesis or WHATEVER. this is toxin's daughter who dolly has one-sided beef with. kind of silly and is learning more about genuine human nature (besides pre-installed data), but can kill you.

the fish things - can you tell that im getting lazy? okay, but like. not to bring in the new content, but when it gets pande or death angel, it LOCKS THE FUCK IN. IT IS ACTUALLY UNIRONICALLY SO LOCKED IN, you CANNOT override its objective to whatever you want it to do, it WILL complete all the death angel phases before doing anything, no matter what. the rest of the anglers? weak shit. minigames? LOCKED.

the fucking duo - she's a robot so she'd probably cheat and get freecam mode after altering the code. im not sure if there's a way to see the good people when you do that, but if there is, she's... defo using that to her advantage. the first time she got the scare, she took a screenshot

kid or squid? - whenever it plays alone, it alters the code so that they never spawn. thinks that they are so annoying and that they should "consider it as it is busy" (she tends to afk and she once came back to the sebastian game over screen). but when it plays with toxin and dolly, it leaves them be begrudgingly and leaves the latter to coo and trigger them for it

funny shark - has gotten it to red and purple within the same run. proudly showed off her achievements to toxin after and looks forward to p.ai.nter's gauntlets, to tell you the truth

(im pretty new to tumblr so sorry if im sending this in the wrong place or if im doing smth wrong 😭🙏). anyway ive wanted to start writing for a while now and ive always rlly loved seeing how writers interact with their readers. based on what ive seen so far, tumblr seemed like the best place to start bc of the way it works compared to wattpad and ao3 :>

basically rn im pretty clueless as to how im supposed to approach this. ive tried looking up a few things that talk about how to manage your blog and how to be consistent with posts, but nothing rlly talks about how to start. i love your works so i was wondering if you maybe had a few tips or if u could just share how you got started in the first place :D

hey anon! don't worry, it's all cool and I love getting to talk to people from my ask b (somehow it always feels easier to reply to than a private message imo lol).

I'll hit you with my main pointers in no particular order:

-aesthetics. having a particular style of post makes your works stand out and makes your post format memorable to readers. if they're just scrolling through tags, seeing different posts of a distinct style that they like is a good way to get them to go from the tag to your blog and explore more of what you have to offer. idk about anyone else but I'm usually terrible at looking at the usernames of writers when I'm reading from tags. some examples of these distinct formats would be like how I've been using coloured banners that match my blog theme at the time, a particular colour palette perhaps, the layout of how I summarise my posts before the actual fic begins (amino has some great symbols and blog decor to copy and paste). I'll always use @edensrose as another example of having a signature post format because her pinks and aesthetics are so distinct to her blog and style. I'm pretty sure she's got lots of reblogs about how to make and find and get inspo for different blog aesthetics too!

-tags. for a blog that's starting out on a new platform, tags are so important! use all sorts on your posts that people might be searching up in any variety, all versions of that character's name maybe, popular abbreviations of the source media's name, stuff like that. it's like casting a net further out the more tags you add. this is a great way for people to initially find you and spread your posts through reblogs etc.

-be interactive. reblog from other writers! leave messages and praise in the tags! this is another great way to get people's attention so they can find your blog and it's an easy way to get mutuals too! having mutuals to talk about your interests and writing with makes the tumblr experience so much more enjoyable and it's a wonderful way of making friends. tumblr isn't as algorithm-y as other platforms like tiktok or instagram so supporting each other is important! collaborative events with writers is great fun too! basically just put yourself on people's radar!

-consistency. you can be consistent without having to write all the time. I will never stop expressing how important reblogs are for creators and communities on here. so that your followers don't think you've fallen off the face of the earth, reblog other sorts of posts in the meantime! art, memes, other people's writing, you name it. and using your queue is a great way to be consistent without having to be online all the time! you can select to add a post to your queue (where tumblr will post it depending on how many posts you want to be published from your queue each day) or you can schedule it for a specific time.

-just really put yourself out there. sending people asks can be a little intimidating but I promise you a little "hey, I really love your work and particularly liked X post! it was great!" can make someone's day, it'll never be a bother, everyone likes a bit of appreciation. You've come to me for help with anon which I don't mind but I'd have loved to be able to promote your blog a little with my reply or even been a bit nosy on your blog myself lol. I can promise you I am not some popular mean girl who's gonna sneer at you when I am literally typing this out after having just posted smut while in a catboy t-shirt 💀

codependent stozier. not ‘they always hang out’ codependency,, like actual toxic codependency. they havent been apart for more than twenty four hours in years and when they r their mental state deteriorates. they keep their distinctive personalities but they know each other so well that they become two halves of one person. if one isnt there the other is incomplete. they never even start dating bc it doesnt seem like ‘the next step’ , by the time they would start dating they r alr much past that point.

when they r still in school living w their parents the nights that werent predestined sleepovers somehow became mornings w both of them waking up in the same bed , getting ready together , going to school together.

facetime is like a saving grace when they have to be apart. their longest streak is like 51 hours or something,, like they leave it on overnight and sneak it into events they shouldnt. whenever one of them gets in trouble and gets their phone taken away they use one of the other losers phones and drains their battery.

they r each others main source of self control esp concerning their self destructive tendencies,, and like facetime cant rlly do much for that when they r apart so. mostly bc richie is clingy as hell he loves physical touch. stan also finds touch super comforting but he is v picky w the ppl he lets touch him otherwise he freaks out. i think all the losers r on his list but richie is like i said a clingy bitch so usually its just richie sprawled all over him constantly.

they are so dependent on each other it's insane. they have each other's clothes, blankets, plushies, toothbrushes and cds at both houses. they basically live with each other without moving out, and it became such a normal thing that they don't even need to text their parents to inform them they're gonna sleep over at the other's. they need to be in each other's presence, they need to because no one else can balance them like they balance each other. if one of them is inhaling, the other is exhaling in exchange because they're like that. they are the same breath, same mind and without the other it's almost like missing an arm and a leg.

they didn't feel the need to date, because they were already something more fucked up than that, not friends or lovers but more of a secret third thing.

they just have to feel the other in any type of way, whether it's by facetime, call, in person, anything. they will fuck up others' phones if they have to, if it means getting to talk to each other.

because they're mostly opposites in every way and they just can't it without the other. stan lets richie know when to shut up and richie urges stan to talk when it's the moment, stan notifying richie when he's about to go too far for a joke and richie cackling every time stan does one to encourage him and because it's funny, stan getting richie to get used to quiet times and richie getting stan to open up to more energy required activities. they just- ugh they

BEING EACH OTHER'S SELF CONTROL. YES. they understand each other so well that they can tell when the other is gonna get triggered, or gonna trigger themselves, and they just soothe each other before that happens. richie is a sucker for physical touch, and stan knows how and where to touch him to make him feel safer. he will push richie's hands in his hair because he knows richie likes the feeling and softness of them as he wraps his arms around richie and let him lay on his chest. richie knows when to not touch stan, but sometimes it's best to hold him close and just ramble in his ear about his favorite birds.

GAJSHJAS yeah richie is touching him all the time. in one way or another.

Gimme ur opinions

theres an ongoing debate about captive bred vs wild caught fish in the hobby and both sides have valid points but personally i always try to get captive bred. but i wanna know what yall think bc i was reading abt cardinal tetras earlier and it made me question that a bit

basically captive bred fish are better adapted in almost every way to aquarium life, generally less likely to carry diseases/parasites, more resistant to sudden changes in water quality like ammonia spikes or pH crashes, tend to be more colorful, aren't a drain on wild populations, and the entire process of how they get to your tank is much more ethical and better for the fish. but they can sometimes be very inbred and all carry the same few v dangerous parasites and diseases if you get them from big factory farms (like guppies and neon tetras which have suddenly gone from super duper hardy to rlly sensitive in the last few years) so you have to be careful where they come from but as long as you are theyre generally better

Wild caught fish are more likely to carry parasites and diseases than most captive bred ones, they're a lot less adaptable to fluctuating water parameters, they may not know how to eat prepared foods, they can sometimes be a drain on wild populations (some species have become critically endangered from overcollection while others seem unaffected by it even when it happens on a massive scale so it depends on the species), and the most important part to me is that the whole process of getting them out of their natural habitat and shipping them across the planet is extremely dangerous and cruel to the fish.

But its more complicated than that- some fish like otocinclus come from pools that dry up seasonally and leave millions of fish to die. So even if the shipping process is horribly stressful and most of them don't survive, they would've suffocated in the forest anyway and those few that do live get much happier longer lives than they would've had. Also, some fish (especially cardinal tetras) are HUGE for local economies. Which normally I'd be like shush that is no excuse at all BUT we live under capitalism and its one of the only sustainable ways for those communities to find a livelihood. So it provides an incentive for them to protect the ecosystem bc without a stable population of these fish they would have no other source of income except for things like logging and poaching endangered species which are far more destructive to the ecosystem than catching the most common tiny fish. so those are the two situations where wild caught starts to seem like potentially a valid and good way to get fish

There's also the issue of the experiences of the fish- like i would imagine a fish that grew up in wide open rivers where it could swim for miles is a lot less happy in captivity than one that's descended from several generations that lived their whole lives in aquariums. ofc thats less true for some than others, like for example apistogramma pairs tend to set up territories in the wild thatre about the size of a medium aquarium and they never leave so im sure they prefer the tank where they get taken care of over living in the same amount of space in the wild but with predators and limited food. but for fish that move around a lot i have a feeling it matters to them

so yeah whatre yalls thoughts about this which one do you generally prefer and are there more nuances that im missing

the cassettes just have a boss-employee relatoinship; i like this one just fine bcs its never going to be a normal boss employee relationship. nightmare workplace dynamic if funny to me and honestly I rock with the cassettes not rlly knowing eo like that until they all started working w/fr soundwave

the cassettes are family; also fine with this, but heavily depends on how its portrayed. I'm personally not a fan of the mechpreg concept esp when its like, just organic pregnancy with some fancy terms slapped on top of it to make it seem more robotic. im also partial to the cassettes being like kids. that's a grown ass man w dick n balls ykwim <-- its funny fr the jokes but like if im actually looking @ an actual series idrc fr them being like kids. LOL I SHOULDVE JUST SAID I fuck w the found family concept but yeah. my two cents ig.

the cassettes shitass roommate arrangement; kinda close to what idw was doing, I think its really funny and honestly the cassettes being familial figures in the way they're the ones who kinda "took care" of soundwave made me smile when reading idw1

this ones usually not on its own but I think cyberverse giving laserbeak (the eonly shown cassette) a more petlike role was only fun bcs how they showed soundwave calling and catching her from a group of other bird cassettes. he's like a falconer?? which is very cool to me and I thought abt blaster having a lion and rhino in his cassete ranks and its like. man. if they have to like be animal wranglers for the animalstic cassettes thats kinda cool? why there's a distinction between animal and humanoid cassettes kinda makes this one a bit "???" though

also I think depending how "sentient" you want to make the animal cassettes, whether they're cybertronian or smt else Ig also. like. says smt. idk shrug. idm if the animal cassettes are just pets but its like, again depend heavily how you decide to portray them

^^ i think my favorite interpretation so far is cassettes being their own thing from cybertronians, and the humanoid cassettes...just not being actual literal cassettes and are instead minibots that are even smaller than average that can hitch a ride in the compartment <-- a temporary thought as i think abt this a lil more cuz the cassete alt modes are still rlly fun to me but the way people decide to portray the differences is so... idkkkkkk frowning
