“anyone not looking to fight please evacuate to a safe area! it’s far too dangerous to go beyond the city currently!”

albedo was diligent, patrolling along borders of the city in order to keep any stragglers out that could pose a threat to the citizens - as there were threats all around between hordes of flying menaces and the larger creatures invading the branches outside the city.

naturally, albedo was only doing his best to do his part in the circumstances. it was just lucky that in place of a wooden sword he now held his actual weapon.

of course, he would have hoped not to have to use it— that things would stay calmer within the city— but the enemy was persistent, to say the least.

so when he turns around and sees someone about to be assaulted by two vicious invaders, his first instinct is to push her out of the way of danger before brandishing his sword.

“look out—!”

but he can just barely stop the assault of one latcher with the swing of his blade let alone two, the other pelting albedo with it’s body as it flies at him, with enough force to knock him off balance and put him in danger.

He’s got a look of horror on his face, maybe because of the fact he just struck his weapon through an enemy in a moment of panic when he didn’t have time to shield himself. He sure as hell doesn’t want one of those things attacking him again, but this is probably the first time he’s killed anything— even if it is a hostile alien creature, what happened sits heavily in his chest and stomach.

“I don’t like this anymore.”

Ambrose can tell Break isn’t in good shape, even if he tries to hide it, but it’s the words that come out of the other’s mouth that really make him balk. Did he hear that question right? 

If so, he has every right to look panicked as he does, taking in the look of Break as his brows furrow and mouth sets into a firm line, trying to hold his composure as best as he can.

“I do, but I really hope you’re just asking out of curiosity—” If not, this could become an issue faster then either of them were likely prepared for! “…Are you injured? How badly?” He presses for more information, doing his best to ignore the way his limbs protest as he pushes himself up slowly with a hand braced on the nearest surface to hold his balance.

“I think… I think you should sit before you collapse.” It’s a miracle he hasn’t already, Ambrose thinks.

break is limping as he approaches ambrose, and is trying terribly hard to hide that very fact. it's a little embarrassing— but only a little, because he's frankly been through worse in this city, and a little leg injury ripping open again isn't all that bad.

   only that he still hears both zhilan's and doctor baizhu's scolding in the back of his mind. so he hobbles, slowly, with a wide wave and grin to match. ' ambrose! excuuuse me! '

   they're in the relative safety of the city, and break was just on his way to collect a few more of his people— he'd heard somebody talking about oz going places he really shouldn't go by himself, and wanted to make sure the brat is alright.

   with his leg like this, though ... well. good thing somebody more organized and responsible is around!

   ' do you know what tetanus is, by any chance? '

Out of anything Mélusine was expecting back on the surface the large moth-like creature was one of them. It seemed like the other districts also had problems to worry about but she was just one person. If everyone else did their jobs and held out then hopefully things would work out in their favor.

Thankfully the "temporary" recovery of their powers was helping out considerably with ensuring everyone did get to safety, without the latchers getting the upper hand. Of course the one thing Mélusine wasn't expecting to see when she landed back down was a bright looking spider. It didn't seem part of the chaos, rather, just caught up in everything.

"I'd suggest getting away from here. It isn't safe even for a creature like yourself." Rather blunt but there was some consideration towards their safety.

"Unless you don't know where to go from here..."

We previously teased that we'd be doing something different for the December event, and this is it! Because everyone is busy with the holidays and there are likely event reruns some members would like to do but can't since they never win the polls, we decided to try a period where you can choose whichever event you'd like to write during the three week event period. We're posting this in advance so you can think about what you'd like to pick!

There are, of course, some rules and caveats for this:

Most events are available to be chosen but not all of them. This is because some of the staff who wrote those events are no longer with us. You can find a list of eligible events at the bottom of this post!

You must choose a single event to receive event participation with on any single blog. You're more than welcome to thread with others doing other events so that they have people to write with, but you can only claim participation for a single event during this period!

There is a flat reward of a free unlock for everyone who participates regardless of whether or not the event you pick gives an unlock. This is so everyone receives an unlock regardless of the event chosen. Picking one that gives an unlock will not give you two, you will still only receive the single unlock. You must write at least 300 IC words for your chosen event to be eligible to claim the unlock.

The usual rules on the EVENT RERUN GUIDE still apply! Your character will see the city in the state that it was in during that event, and will believe everyone is going through the same thing.

A more complete post will be made on Friday with any questions that have been asked in the interim. So if you have any questions about how things work, please send them to the masterlist (not the Discord server) before Friday!

HOW PARTICIPATING IN MULTIPLE EVENTS WORKS

As a preliminary reminder: you can only claim participation for a single event regardless of how many you participate in. Participating in multiple events is more to help others get interactions as most members will be choosing different things.

Characters are sent to a different digital reconstruction of the city depending on which rerun you're doing. Areas unique to the event are recreated in this space too.

Characters will not remember being in multiple events at the same time during the event period. You can't have a thread in Subversion and then hop into The Maskerade Festival and have your character recall being in Subversion right before that. They will remember all of the events after this event period is over, however.

Because the event reruns take place in a digital space, there is no 1:1 timeline with the outside world. Reruns have no tangible effect on the city where business continues as usual. Just because your character feels like they spent a week in an event does not mean a week has passed in the city proper. Just keep in mind that events do canonically last two to four weeks depending on the event, so your character couldn't spend more than that amount of time (from their perspective) in a single event rerun.

he knows it’s reckless. putting oneself in danger for another could mean the end of the line if he didn’t tread carefully. but even despite having survival instincts, his drive to protect people as a knight seemed to win out over it.

a civilian in trouble wasn’t someone be could morally ignore, especially if he wished to keep his place among the knights of favonius, he would figure.

but as it is right now he had only served to put himself in danger, winding up as the one in need of saving.

so after the chaos of everything, once he’s righted himself, he looks on with a frown. “i apologize for my negligence. keeping people safe isn’t always an easy task. thank you for having my back just now.”

he knows the dangers, but this time was still mostly his own fault for jumping into the fray without much time to make a solid plan.

“we shouldn’t likely stay in one spot for too long either. it likely won't be long before more come through here.”

his sword appears in his hand again, having de-manifested during his fall, now ready once more to fight.

One could easily say that NJ was getting in over her head with everything that was happening. Making sure everyone was safe along with herself in an area she wasn't familiar with didn't make the situation any easier, especially given how tenacious the invading creatures were.

It would honestly have been a miracle if the BB made it out unscathed in any capacity, and the numerous hordes of latchers eventually broke through towards NJ. One scraping by their mark before being pushed away, the creature being slashed by another individual. The same one who she noticed scream to check her surroundings in the first place now center stage.

"God dammit! All of you really don't know how to quit it." The BB sighed running over towards him, taking aim at the one in the air and letting shots ring out to hit their mark. As for the other one NJ gave it the honor of a swing from her busted up gun, getting great use as a blunt object rather than a projectile shooter.

"Hey I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but you better get up." An outstretched hand reached towards him, head tilted backwards to ensure nothing was rearing its head.

"After all we still got work to do and people to save am I right?"

Judging from how the creature acted Mélusine could safely say she was correct in assuming they weren't on talking terms. Or any kind of friendliness in the slightest bit. The moment Mimi was tugged away the servant jumped into action, kicking the creature away form pecking at the spider before gently catching it in the palm of her hand.

"I think I understand what's going on. Even if its just slightly." The other arm held one of her pointed blades towards the angered creature, looking very willing to run straight into the two of them and resume their little pecking spree.

"Do I have permission to knock it out?"

🕸 //    her question couldn’t be further from the truth, and mimi makes that very clear with the squeal of frightened confusion.  what even is this thing?!  it looks like some kind of horrible fusion, a monster with traits of many creatures he’s seen before, but none of the charm.  ( or he’s just being rude because this thing is biting him.  that’s also an option. )

            he looks up at the lady with pleading eyes, begging for her to help somehow.  he hates to stoop so low that he’s asking a human for any sort of assistance, but everyone’s yelling and screaming and there are bigger monsters destroying everything—and he’s oh-so-very small, so very squishable!  if he stays with her, maybe he’ll have a better chance of survival—

           —and of course, with one little tug, the tiny dragon-chick pulls mimi away from mélusine’s hip.  just his luck.  he screeches in fright, trying to spit string in its eyes, but it burns the webs away effortlessly.  oh.  oh no.  fire.

           mimi only screams louder, wriggling away with all of his might, but the little monster simply sees that as a challenge to fight.  it pecks at him with a scratchy giggle, nothing but delight and mirth in its eyes, but mimi is having none of that, taking out his poison barb and swinging wildly.

Judging from their actions Mélusine felt it was safe to say the creature didn't quite know where to go. Under normal circumstances she probably would've freaked out somewhat from a spider jumping onto the fairy's hip like their life depended on it. But it did seem scared, especially given the chicken-like creature roaring towards the two of them.

"Are they someone you know?" Without much hesitation the fae knight pushed the other honking creature away, hoping that the spider would somehow explain whether it was friend or foe.

"The two of you don't seem to be on good talking terms..."

🕸 //    mimi is only too happy to try and leap towards somewhere safer, the poor spinarak nearly constantly trampled by humans, spiramonsters, and strange creatures alike.  he himself hasn’t found “his spiramonster” yet, and he doesn’t want to find out what it is if it’s going to try and kill him like everyone else’s.  he whines, and with a leap forward, he clings to mélusine’s hip, trying to burrow into it.  he doesn’t want to be here anymore—even if he’s missed the taste of that strange bread from the bakery that tastes just like cutieflys, he doesn’t want to die!

           however, he’s not the only one who approaches mélusine, and this little creature seems much more willing to pick a fight.  a greyish-blue chicken with a fluffy collar of feathers and two strange horns skitters over, crying out with a mixture of a honk and a crackly little roar.  it begins to tug at mimi’s lower leg, though it seems equally likely that the little one wants to eat mimi just as much as it wants to pull mimi towards the threat it wants to fight.
