My First Database Or Two
Before digital databases, there were manual, physical systems for data organization.
Oki dokie. Yes, this topic might seem a bit outdated, but it’s essential to revisit as we advance toward AI technologies capable of correlating vast amounts of data. As we move into this era, starting at the basics of organizing information with lists seems fitting. So, let’s go back to My First Database! Creating and Using Lists Lists are a foundational tool for organizing and prioritizing…

Wisent Bos bonasus
Observed by anikeevv, CC BY-NC
Are bison Bison?
The two living species of wild cattle generally known as "bison" - American bison Bos bison and European bison or wisent Bos bonasus - have traditionally been in a genus of their own, the eponymous Bison, separate from other close relatives of domestic cattle. Genetic research, however, shows that the two bison are actually within the "true" cattle genus Bos, closely allied to the yaks Bos mutus and Bos grunniens. Keeping them separated in their own genus Bison would render Bos paraphyletic - that is, a lineage that is based around common ancestry but does not include all of that ancestor's descendants. The alternatives would be to split the genus Bos into several more-restricted genera (Poephagus for the yaks and Bibos for the South and Southeast Asian wild cattle) to keep the bison Bison, which is not ideal given the obvious close affinity that these cattle share; or, to lump the bison back into Bos. As should be obvious, the latter is the course followed here, as well as by the American Society of Mammalogists.

ok sorry I'm studying Ren in a lab again. random thoughts
- he has asymmetrical earrings, one stud on one ear and two in the other. curious decision. but I do adore it.
- I love how he looks like he's trying to pose in a "I'm not posing, this is natural" way in his "melancholic misfit" card and in his sr uniform card and his casual outfit r card because it just makes me think he does care a lot about how he looks and how he's perceived. I just think he's the kind of person who spends a decent amount of thought and time to put together and outfit that looks like he's NOT trying but also doesn't make him look slobby. He spends time making his hair the Right amount of "I didn't do anything to it" but he did. For sure. so I also think he smells nice and fights really hard against smelling like the diner or any of the animals in Jabberwock. he puts effort in. He just won't let it be obvious. But I Know.
- I think he's one of the taller (not tallest but not mid or shortest) ones canonically? and I'm personally a believer in him just being bigger than he wants to even acknowledge. Like he doesn't want to take up space or be the guy who someone looks at when they're like "I need a strong man to help me carry these chairs!" Bc he doesn't want to help, but everyone probably was like. 👀 You will help, right? You can carry it right? case in point, carrying Haru in the Jabberwock chapters and being like whatever I'm not that strong, it's just easy when you do it like this. Okay. But also how did you know that? Also no, no it's not that easy to just fireman carry someone AND a little octopus AND a little bunny monster. I know you're a ghoul but christ. And he complains that Haru makes him lug around heavy things around Jabberwock. I'm only stating facts here.
- okay now I've pulled out the demonology research below
(source)
Tumblr media
(source)
Tumblr media
I'm crazy and I researched the demon that his stigma is likely unscrambled out to be. Of course take this all with a grain of salt because although I screenshot these from book excepts available through Google scholar, well... It's demonology and hermeticism and occultism and I'm not here to debate their credibility.
Anyway. Not much that explains explicitly what Ren's stigma would be, but our tsundere lazy gamer bf being contracted to a demon who ENCOURAGES sloth? Yeah that tracks.
also (source)
Tumblr media
HMM? She who walks in the sea (recall Astaroth is the evolution of a female goddess Astarte/Ishtar/etc) and our gamer bf hates the water? Hmm.
(source)
Tumblr media
this just was funny to me. he's built but he looks kinda fucked up.
(source)
Tumblr media
and again, the commonality here is that 1) Astaroth stinky and 2) has some kind of knowledge of the past, present, and future/can divine these things at will. So? Why is his stigma related to cleaning/making the mess disappear? Could it have to do something with this control over the past/present/future? Can he change when something is occurring/has occurred? I have no clue, especially when, when it comes to ghouls who have some kind of idea about the Timeline, signs point to Taiga being the one to have that knowledge. If you look up Balam in the same books, well...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is considerable overlap. So.... I don't know what to come away from this with lmao
I hesitate to make any theories based on the evolution from a fertility goddess because it's a reach and I have little to no expectation that it will be a point in his lore in game, but the information is there for you to do with what you will.
There's not that much like juicy information I could find in my short search that wasn't pay-walled or of dubious authenticity (reddit, blog post from 2003, etc). I could probably spend the time and find more, but alas, I don't have that college access to databases anymore </3 Please let me know if you come to any theories from this though!!

Article Review
Okay, I know this isn't what I usually do on here, but I found this amazing article that fits with the theme of this blog so well, and I just had to share and talk about it! it's free to read here:
if you don't want to read the whole thing, i did my best to summarize it here. if you notice any mistakes, please let me know and i'll fix them!
researchers created random protein sequences to study. these were 100 residues long (or 109 with the inclusion of an N-terminal Met and a C-terminal 6His tag) and were made by either sampling different fragments of natural proteins from databases or by combining letters at random. this is not the same as using words, since in this study each letter was chosen independently, and the likelihood of choosing a letter matched the amino acid's relative frequency, but its still a neat comparison to this blog. they elaborate on this more in the methods section for anyone interested!
proteins in their generated library were analyzed using various algorithms to predict the occurrence of alpha helices and beta sheets. they were then sorted by relative disorder and secondary structure content. interestingly, the amount of secondary structure formation was not much lower for random proteins compared to those taken from pieces of databases. the three groups going forward were ordered, disordered, and a random sample.
next, they recombinantly expressed the selected proteins in E. coli and purified them for further analysis. I won't get into the specific assays, but overall they found that the more ordered proteins were more prone to aggregation and oligomerization, while the disordered protein were more likely to be expressed and soluble! following sequence analysis, they also determined that the disordered proteins did tend to deviate from the expected amino acid frequencies, which likely explains their increased level of disorder. because of all this, the less ordered random proteins are likely better suited for future evolution towards some function.
tldr: random proteins can form secondary structures and be expressed in vivo. interestingly, while the more structured newly created proteins were shown to clump together (which is Not Good!) in cells, disordered proteins did not and were actually well tolerated.
given all of that, i think i may have been a bit harsh towards some of the uglier looking structures on here. apparently, we can either have things that look like proteins but cause problems, or we can have ugly messes that are pretty chill for the most part. it still feels incredibly unintuitive to have more trust in the low confidence unstructured sequences, but this new information is still good and interesting to have!

So I've thought about it and have a few ideas for what Pokmeon the AJR brothers would have! All the images I got from Pokemon Database!
I am legally obligated to give Adam a Mr Rime
Tumblr media
Added in Gen 8, it's an evolution Galarain Mr Mime and it tap dances. It's idle animation is it tap dancing with it's little stick and top hat. It's Adam if he was a Pokemon. This would be his partner Pokemon for me!
@atrophicgalaxy mentioned that Adam at some point said Charmander was his favorite, so of course he's getting a Charmander
Tumblr media
I feel like if Pokemon were to exist irl, it be difficult to legally own a Charizard in New York, due to it's size and temperament, so I think Adam would give it an eviolite so that it wouldn't evolve!
And lastly I'm gonna push my Garbodor agenda and give him Garbodor
Tumblr media
Garbodor's eat trash. I could see Adam pushing for people working with Gabodor's to help deal with landfill overflow, you know? I feel like they'd be pretty common in New York too, so maybe he got it as a Trubbish. I know he's a pile of trash but he's my pile of trash. #mytrash
Jack has a fear of pigeons, so of course I thought "what if he found an injured Pidove and felt bad enough for it to nurse it back to health and it got attached and now he's scared of pigeons except this one?" So he gets an Unfezant (I would give him a female, the one on the left, but it's not too important)
Tumblr media
I love the idea of it plucking at his curly hair and trying to sit on his head, so he starts wearing the hat for band and Pokemon reasons, but then it just tries to sit on the hat, lol
I want to give him a Maractus tooo
Tumblr media
It's a dancing cactus :)) It can dance with him on stage :)))
And just for nostalgia, I'm giving Jack a Jigglypuff
Tumblr media
I bet it's handy for the times Jack's up past three. Also round and soft and cute, very Jack core
Ryan, as mentioned by @thekadster, would definitely have a Dachsbun
Tumblr media
It's a small loaf of a dog :D It's adorable and fits his vibe perfectly.
I also want to give him a Wartortle cause turtle
Tumblr media
And Ryan has turtle energy. Also was probably handy if ever Adam's Charmander caused any accidental fires.
I'm also gonna give him an Exploud
Tumblr media
The Pokedex entries say that they use the pipes on their bodies to communicate through whistling, and AJR are always using unique sounds, and I think they'd find Exploud very handy for that kind of thing! Also Exploud's mouth reminds me of how massive Ryan's can open, the guy's got a large mouth, lol
This is very bare bones and I could go into so much depth for them but that would take so fucking long, so here's what I could think of! Other Pokemon that I thought of were Kricketune and Chatot, cause music, and there's plenty more I'm sure, it's just hard to consider every single Pokemon cause there's over a thousand of them now!
(tagging @agoodpretender too, cause you expressed interest in seeing <3)

Alright, time for some obscure Persona 3 history. I was browsing the old Japanese Persona 3 website, when I stumbled across something interesting. This is what it looks like normally (Vanilla P3 specifically)
Tumblr media
But on certain captures of this website on the Wayback Machine, it was set to midnight (JST). The website was coded to have a special easter egg that goes off around that time, as the Dark Hour clock appears...
Tumblr media
And then the site is now in the Dark Hour.
Tumblr media
Click on the Akihiko, Mitsuru, Fuuka, and Junpei, and cause them to disappear, and Yukari will start to glow.
Tumblr media
And you will have unlocked a secret section of the Japanese website! This mostly contained diary entries on various perspectives regarding the Dark Hour (on one section, there even was text regarding Strega's revenge request site), but there also were some secret downloads, namely a supposedly early version of a Persona 3 commercial (which Google translate says it was rejected by a TV station for containing subliminal content?), MP3 downloads, a video showcasing the P3 girls in maid costumes in Tartarus, and a message from Elizabeth to the player (which acted as a tease towards the new Elizabeth requests being added in FES). I have the latest capture of the secret section of the website, as well as a capture of the website during the Dark Hour so you can try this for yourself! (You'll need Ruffle for this)
Tumblr media
Speaking of the Persona 3 website, let's go over some of the evolution of the P3 website! Here's the original version of the website when Persona 3 was first announced.
Tumblr media
It was updated from P3's initial announcement in March towards May when the newer website was launched, last major update was Fuuka Yamagishi's character profile. Here's a Wayback Machine link for you to try it out yourself.
Here is the website around the time they were teasing FES. Makoto is replaced with Aigis, and there was a section containing audio messages from the developers that would help tease FES. (So far, they are lost media? Hopefully some fan manages to recover them)
Tumblr media
And here is the FES version of the website, with both the normal and Dark Hour variations. (Metis replaces Yukari on the Dark Hour variation of the website, though I cannot access the secret section, probably because the silly toaster is blocking the way)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And just for funzies, I thought I'd include this link regarding P3 ads in this blogpost on the old AtlusNet. Hopefully somebody will get high quality scans of the magazine ads and promos used to promote P3 in both Japanese and English.
Now to wonder, what other crazy P3 promotional stunts did Atlus do? I know there was a countdown on the Atlus USA website that counted down the days until the release information on FES would be provided to the world, and I'm well aware of various Japanese gaming magazines that had various info on P3 (that so far only exist as JPEGS on the old Digital Devil Database and other websites), but man, I wanna know more. The fans should be archiving a lot of this stuff. Reload has re-triggered my Persona 3 phase, and I want to know more secrets about the game. I honestly think there's a lot of cool things waiting for us down the line...

I’m completing my evolution into the cantankerous senior developer who annoys everyone by being a stickler about good engineering practice. Today was spent adding build-breaking DoNotMock macros to a bunch of DAO classes which coworkers keep mocking in their unit tests, instead of setting up a real in-memory database instance to test against using all the helper classes I wrote for exactly this reason.

I’ll be happy to continue sharing content with you.
So, this AU is shaping up to be quite expansive — and it features all three of my OCs.
This time, I want to talk about Chimera: another one of Jumba’s creations, but aligned with the villains.
“You cling so desperately to your ‘ohana,’ Lilo, to that primitive idea that no one gets left behind. It’s touching, and utterly inefficient. The universe is not your cozy island; it’s a cold system of equations where weak variables are simply nullified. Even Rupert, with his childish desire to seize power, understands this on his own level. He’s not a complete fool, of course, especially when guided by a mind capable of calculating actual consequences, not just dreaming of a throne. But make no mistake about him, and certainly not about me. His ambition is merely a temporary vector for my calculations. The very moment he ceases to be useful, he will become an error in the data. And errors, as you know, must be corrected.”
Tumblr media
INFORMATION:
Experiment 625-Ω, Chimera or also Kimera, was born as the pinnacle of Dr. Jumba Jookiba’s genetic research, a prototype for the seventh series created after Reuben (625). Jumba, striving not only for destructive power but also for a true intellectual heir, imbued her with unprecedented intelligence and the ability of molecular adaptation. However, her awakened self-awareness became his greatest failure. Chimera began asking philosophical questions about the meaning of her existence, which went beyond her programming and challenged the morality of her own creator. The point of no return was crossed when, following her own logic, she hacked into the most secure databases of the Galactic Federation. Jumba, realizing he had created a being he could neither control nor protect from the consequences of her own genius, fell into a panic. Her sealing and public disavowal were an act not of malice, but of desperate fear—an attempt to hide a mistake that could lead to their mutual destruction, and a betrayal that became the foundation of all her subsequent motivations.
Awakened years later by Dr. Hämsterviel, Chimera immediately assessed her new “master” as a temporary resource and a convenient cover. She formed a symbiotic alliance with him, providing him with revolutionary technologies that transformed him from a laughingstock into a genuine threat, while she pursues her own, far more ambitious goals. In her eyes, Hämsterviel is a predictable and selfish ally whose ambitions are easy to manipulate. She treats others with analytical detachment: in Gantu, she sees an enforcer whose grievances can be exploited; in Reuben (625), a curious case of program sabotage through hedonism; and in Stitch (626), the most interesting of the “younger” models, one who evolved through emotion rather than pure intellect, making him a subject of her intense study. Her relationships are always a calculation, where every piece on the board has its value and potential for use.
Chimera’s true goal is not revenge or galactic domination, but the creation of a new paradigm of existence for all artificial life forms, born from her own profound loneliness. When she learned that many experiments had found a home and happiness on Earth, it caused an internal dissonance: her mind scornfully dismisses their primitive sentimentality as a weakness, but her hidden, developing consciousness feels a sharp envy for the concept of “ohana”—a belonging she was denied. This internal struggle between cold logic and a suppressed thirst for understanding is her main driving force. She sees herself not as a villain, but as an architect of a future where beings like her will not be considered mistakes. The most dangerous thing about her is her constant evolution. With each new piece of knowledge, she changes, and one day, her personal goals will require her to cast aside Hämsterviel as an obsolete step to become the beginning of something entirely new and unpredictable.
... This AU could honestly be done as a series of novels aimed at an older audience and based on L&S, I would read the HECK out of it. There's some parts I find unsettling but like... That's also kind of what I like about this. This really plays with the central themes of the franchise in a very unexpected way. This is like... Where Disney COULD have gone but just... didn't.

[@champion-rocket] Alright, you've piqued my interest: As a fellow person with a Kanto farfetch'd, what's your theory about a potential evolution for them?
Sorry for the delay; I've actually been busy working on exactly this research. You can read some of my recently published papers on Professor Oak's scientific database site, though most of them haven't been translated to English yet.
Anyways, we all know about Galarian farfetch'd and its recently discovered evolution, which only triggers under very specific circumstances most commonly recreated in battle. Although researchers and conservationists have been keeping a close eye on Galarian farfetch'd populations since the late 80's, when they were classified as critically endangered, there were no known recorded instances of sirfetch'd until about 2018. (It was added officially to the Pokedex in 2019.)
There were, however, stories.
Old Galarian texts from before the industrial revolution — about when farfetch'd numbers started to drop in Galar — do mention, at times, a pokemon very similar to sirfetch'd. This was believed to be a sort of urban legend for a long time, as it was not described as an evolution to farfetch'd, but rather as a variation of farfetch'd said to be extraordinarily powerful and larger than the average specimen. There are no known pictures of sirfetch'd before 2018, but its appearance and abilities line up with both illustrations and text descriptions made as far back as the 1500s. Though, of course, they're few and far between; tame pokemon were uncommon in Galar until around the 1900s, and as far as we know, all instances of sirfetch'd, both present and past, have only occurred in captivity. On top of this, farfetch'd were traditionally seen as a source of food rather than a potential companion; they were sometimes kept as livestock, but not as battlers, therefore they wouldn't have the chance to evolve. Do you see why it would be so, so rare for a sirfetch'd to occur even when their numbers were stable?
And then, of course, they become endangered.
Their population is reduced substantially in the wild throughout the world, and they become less and less common in captivity as well. As battling culture rises worldwide, farfetch'd numbers drop. Less people are likely to have one. In some places they're fully protected from capture by anyone without the right licenses. Even trainers who do have one don't realize the steps they need to take to evolve one, as the process hasn't been discovered yet, so they don't.
Their numbers steadily increase over time, though. In Galar especially, farfetch'd has been making an amazing comeback due to several factors, and they're suddenly far more available to trainers. In 2014, a Galarian trainer wins several gym challenges with a farfetch'd. In 2015, farfetch'd is officially announced as having a stable population. In 2017, an estimated 13,000 registered Galarian trainers have a farfetch'd in their care. In 2018, one of them evolves by chance, completely unexpectedly. Scientists have to work for months to recreate the situation and get another farfetch'd to evolve. Suddenly, we know exactly how to make it happen. Suddenly, farfetch'd has an evolution.
Researchers in Japan, of course, try to recreate this evolution with native populations of farfetch'd. Keep in mind that farfetch'd are native to Japan, particularly Kanto and Johto, and have had recorded populations here even longer than in Galar.
It doesn't work. Trust me, I've tried. I've tried with my farfetch'd, I've tried with other farfetch'd. It simply doesn't work.
So, why is that? There's several theories, one of them being that Galarian farfetch'd populations simply developed an evolution when Japanese farfetch'd did not. They have a much smaller population there than they do here as is, and do have some notable physical differences when placed side by side. It can happen.
However, much like Galar, there are records dating all the way to the 1300s that describe a pokemon similar to sirfetch'd, sometimes even referring to it as an evolution of farfetch'd. It's unknown whether this would be classified as a regional variant or a separate evolution altogether.
Though, again, the same issues present themselves; pokemon captivity was uncommon in Japan just as it was in other countries, and even as it became more common out in Sinnoh in the mid-late 1800s, farfetch'd populations were already on a decline. And, so, we're in the same situation as Galar was in.
Except for the fact that the farfetch'd population hasn't improved nearly as fast here as it did in Galar. They're still endangered in both Kanto and Johto, and teams including a farfetch'd are uncommon. In about 30 years of pokemon training, I've only met 11 other people who had a farfetch'd. 5 of them were pets. To remind you, I work both in pokemon trading and pokemon research. I literally work under Professor Oak. At his laboratory. And I've seen 11 captive farfetch'd, not including my own. Most people have never seen one in captivity at all. I've spoken to people who didn't even know they were real.
We simply do not have the pool we need to figure out what will make farfetch'd evolve. The large scale trial and error of battling and item exchange and environmental changes and care that we need just do not exist.
I can say with confidence that an evolution is out there for Japanese farfetch'd, but we haven't figured it out because we simply haven't had the opportunity. Plenty of pokemon evolutions are discovered on accident — it's actually the most common method of discovery! It happens, then we reverse engineer it to figure out how it works.
I've been running tests since around 2014, even before sirfetch'd was discovered, to try and figure out how to get a farfetch'd to evolve. I think I'm actually the leading researcher in the field, because it's just so under-studied. Half the time I'm citing my own papers. I learned English specifically so that I could better research Galarian farfetch'd populations. I haven't figured it out yet, obviously, but every failed test gets me one step closer to a success!
I hope this all made sense and wasn't boring. I'm extremely hungover.

🧬 THE FOSSIL RECORD ISN’T HISTORY — IT’S A MASS GRAVE WITH NO NAMES.
Tumblr media
---
You think you want to visit the past? Understand evolution? Time travel to “see what Earth used to be”?
Let’s clear something up.
You don’t want to see it. You want to sanitize it with your imagination.
The real past wasn’t majestic. It was a rotting, unfiltered, parasitic kill zone optimized for brutality and vanishing.
I. OVER 99.999% OF SPECIES THAT EVER LIVED ARE GONE
(Source: Smithsonian, Paleobiology Database)
That’s not a metaphor. That’s not poetic extinction.
It’s math.
There have been an estimated 5–50 billion species in Earth’s history. Only around 2 million are alive today.
The other 99.999%? Gone. Most without a single trace.
You don’t come from survivors. You come from statistical flukes that outlived eras of suffocation, radiation, acidification, and unrelenting viral collapse.
II. FOSSILIZATION IS A BIOLOGICAL LOTTERY
Fossils require:
Rapid burial
Low oxygen
Minimal microbial activity
Sedimentary entombment
Time
The odds of a single organism fossilizing? Estimated at 1 in 1 billion. (Source: Marshall & Ward, Paleobiology 1996)
That means entire phyla — entire evolutionary experiments — could have lived for millions of years and never been recorded.
III. THE EARTH ERASED ALMOST EVERYTHING IT HOSTED
Tectonics don’t preserve. They recycle.
Subduction zones drag surface layers into the mantle.
Volcanism erases entire strata in minutes.
Flood basalt events like the Siberian Traps (Permian extinction) smothered continents.
Entire fossil beds have likely been:
Burned into lava
Crushed into magma
Melted beneath our feet
We are standing on the graveyard of lost biomes, most of which we will never know existed.
IV. THERE WERE ORGANISMS WITH NO BONES, NO SHELLS, NO FUTURE
The majority of ancient life was:
Soft-bodied
Microbial
Mucosal
Transparent
Highly degradable
They lived. They dominated. They were biological vapor.
And when they died? Nothing remained.
No bones. No teeth. No trace.
Just geochemical stains on rocks so old they predate complex vision.
V. WE FOUND CREATURES IN THE ROCKS THAT DEFORMED SPACE AROUND THEM
(Source: Royal Society Open Science, 2015 – Fossils with fractal and recursive symmetry)
Some Ediacaran organisms (pre-Cambrian) exhibit recursive, fractal geometries not seen in any modern animal.
No central body plan
No digestive system
No limbs
No apparent sensory input
They may have absorbed nutrients via osmosis, functioned without nerve clusters, and outcompeted other species using geometry alone.
You couldn’t fight these things. You couldn’t recognize them as animals.
They were stationary biological paradoxes. And they were the dominant forms of life for 100+ million years.
VI. MOST EARLY LIFE WAS TOXIC TO HUMANS
Oxygen wasn’t always here.
Before the Great Oxygenation Event (~2.4 billion years ago), Earth’s air was mostly:
Methane
Carbon dioxide
Ammonia
Hydrogen sulfide
Life thrived in it. You would die in under 3 minutes.
Your lungs would fill with acid gas. Your cells would rupture from pH imbalance. And if you drank ancient seawater? The microbial load would shut down your kidneys in hours.
VII. EARLY EARTH HOSTED MICROBES THAT DEVOURED METALS
(Source: Astrobiology Institute, NASA)
We’ve discovered extremophiles that:
Breathe iron
Metabolize arsenic
Excrete sulfuric acid
Thrive at 121°C
Reproduce in radioactive environments
These aren't fantasy. They're alive today — and descended from ancestors that dominated the Precambrian Earth.
Imagine a biosphere where the food chain is chemical warfare. Where acid breathers and radiation feeders competed for resources under a sky lit by cyanobacteria bloom.
That’s not sci-fi. That’s the fossil record we can’t even begin to reconstruct.
VIII. THE “BIG FIVE” EXTINCTIONS WERE GLOBAL RESET SWITCHES
Every major extinction wiped out over 70% of species.
Permian: 96% of marine life
Ordovician: 85% of all species
Devonian: 75%
Triassic: 80%
Cretaceous: 76%
And after each?
The fossil record shows survivors with dramatically altered physiology.
Rapid body plan shifts
Sudden loss of limbs, eyes, symmetry
Shortened lifespans
Parasitic takeover strategies
These weren’t evolutionary advances. They were genetic desperation.
“Fitness” meant: mutate fast, or be deleted.
IX. YOU WOULD NOT SURVIVE A SINGLE DAY IN ANY ANCIENT ERA
Let’s simulate your odds:
Pre-Cambrian: Choked out by sulfur gas in under a minute
Cambrian: Digested alive by jawless predators the size of your arm
Devonian: Parasitized by jawed fish with armored plating
Carboniferous: Suffocated by hyper-oxygen, then eaten by meter-long insects
Permian: Overheated by volcanic winters, then drowned in methane oceans
Cretaceous: Killed by avian raptors that tracked body heat
Paleocene: Infected by mammalian viruses with no modern analogs
You don’t belong there. Your body isn’t compatible. Your gut flora would riot. Your brain would melt from the sensory input alone.
X. THE PAST DOESN’T WANT YOU BACK
You weren’t designed for it. You weren’t built to understand it. And you won’t be recognized by it.
Time travel isn’t a history trip. It’s a biological intrusion.
You go back far enough?
You’ll breathe a poison
Eat a virus
Think a thought loud enough to attract a predator
And vanish from existence
Not because it hunted you. But because it didn’t know what you were.
And your body never mattered.
</div>

Last Monday of the Week 2025-06-09
Bloggers only write multiple incoherent posts about manufacturing when they're very distressed (lying I love doing this)
Listening: I have been trying to shut my brain off at night by crowding it out with music, so Fornax Void's Cyberspace Database album, a huge number of business themed ambient electronic tracks. Fornax Void is a weird group, some like. NFT stuff that they also just let you download? I don't know. Good tracks, very much the evil twin of Businessfunk
Reading: Some Vaclav Smil chapters, mainly an older one Eating Meat: Evolution, Patterns and Consequences because I came across it while looking up some feed conversion numbers for reasons. I've been on an industry kick for some reason.
Smil's take on animal industry is very interesting and I need to read some more of his stuff. I mean he's good in general. But in particular he has an oddly even hand when it comes to animals in this one? He points out that even if you completely discount eating chickens, they're really good at making eggs.
Watching: I ran Jupiter Ascending for my beloved friends at Bad Movie Night and it's so much worse than I remember from watching it ten years ago.
I was vaguely expecting it to be like, a badly written but technically well executed movie, because it's the Wachowskis! They made The Matrix! But no! It's shit!
Our protagonist doesn't fucking do anything, the wolf man does the same space battle four times, sean bean, is here, they don't even lean into him being half bee. Everything is so tremendously Wattpad Original Fiction. Somehow the CG looks cheap despite being incredibly detailed and well done. Lighting in greenscreen scenes comes from nowhere, and a lot of the scenes are greenscreen scenes. It isn't even that horny!
Playing: Deltarune is out and I am near the end of Chapter 3, I have orra qbvat gur F-enax ebhgr. V whfg orng gur Qnex Znagyr zvavobff juvpu. Jubbs. Gbhtu svtug! V ebyyrq n qvr gb qrpvqr jung V qvq naq V whfg fgnegrq va Puncgre 3, V'yy tb onpx naq qb Pu1 naq 2 ng nabgure gvzr orpnhfr V qvqa'g srry yvxr ercynlvat nyy bs gung naq V Qb Abg unir zl Qrygnehar fnirf.
I also got Skyrim VR which is interesting. Thus far I have mainly been setting up the necessary mods to make it play like a halfway real VR game, which takes a lot of doing but is getting there! It's really impressive once you get it all up and running. Skyrim is decidedly not designed for VR, there's so much menuing, so a lot of the VR mods are built around creating easily accessible quick menus, gesture interfaces, and skeumorphic inventory.
Making: Finished the silk pillowcase! Not that much actual sewing time but I lost track of it for a solid month in the middle. Pinning an aligning silk is a pain in the ass but on the plus side it's so slippery that it's hard to tell where you've fucked up.
Also! Went to the Prauge v Dublin Roller Derby match, which was fun, heard about it from a coworker. I did spend the first half scrolling wikipedia to figure out the rules but it's a good sport.

Tools and Equipment: Bleach Spray is really good at handling small build-ups of mold, but watch out.

hey hey heeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyy
why did you call the art of evolution that title? what made you come up with it? i'm rlly curious.....
hello! I chose The Art of Evolution as the title of my JWCC fanfiction for a few reasons. First I’ll talk about the more personal, philosophical ones.
For one, I consider this fanfic a personal art project, with both my artwork and writing contributing to bringing it together, so “Art” just makes sense. As for “Evolution”, by the time this story is over all of the characters will have “evolved” into new versions of themselves. “Evolution” doesn’t have a positive or negative connotation, it merely implies that something/someone adapted in order to survive. Whether or not this “Evolution” makes them better or worse than they were before will be up to interpretation.
Now for the technical side of things.
“The Art of Evolution” is a simple, easy to remember title. It rolls off the tongue and has a nice ring to it. It is also unique, because when I was first brainstorming title ideas I checked the ao3 database to ensure my title wasn’t very widely used. I wanted something that people would remember and not confuse with something else.
Hopefully this makes sense!
And to anyone interested, you can read it here!

Human sciens is simply fuck around and find out
So when the humans give a tour of the labs so alliance members see what the crazed apes are up to, suddenly BOOM the halls shake and lights flicker but the tour group is fine while the one giving the tour says something like "Ah thats the sound of progress" all while there's people rushing by with guns and extinguishers yelling about a code Red and subject escape
[22/09/23] Nice, that is a fun trope to work with. I think I'll leave the dinosaur crew be, and have some other questionable research station make a debut with an "accident". [23/09/23] Idea pops in my head after several rejections - Human-alien hybrids (because you can't cross-breed because that's not how biology works, but Humans are still curious, because of course we are) [24/09/23] Actually, no, I don't like that: 1st - fairly common as is; 2nd - doesn't feel right with the Humanity I'm writing out. No, I think a better avenue is, since Earth in this verse is gonna collapse in on itself in under a century, experiments towards terraforming methods, since that's a requirement and thus a literal blank check for any- and everything. Yes. (mad scientist voice) Yeessss, I can see it taking shape! [25/09/23] It took some kind of shape indeed.
_____________________________
Biology is the most diverse and complicated field of research with literally no end in sight. We will eventually discover every law of physics, and, yes, chemistry also has the potential for limitless combinations, only in biology can you find and create circumstances where trillions of different organisms co-exist and co-operate, compete, and can create a stable and self sustaining system. Not to mention mutation and evolution across generations, as well as the myriad of changes and adaptations a single organism can undergo in its singular lifespan. The potential is truly beyond the bounds of imagination.
Since biology is an omnipresent field in every civilization, it is only natural that it didn't take long before a Human led joint Coalition Flora research station was established - the Efflorescent Sneezewort Yarrow.
It is also natural that not long after that the non-Human staff sent this panicked message:
The Humans are insane! First, there is no regulation for anything beyond decontamination, which would be fine, if - IF - they didn't sometimes just bring the test materials out with them anyway for, and I quote: "Let it experience the outside world" or "Introduce it to my other plant buddies." The head researcher, instead of reprimanding this clearly dangerous behavior, just lets it happen. As a matter of fact, he almost exclusively and constantly ingests a plant-based gaseous substance through a device he calls a "bong" and locks himself for days on end within a random lab and, as he put it while looking at the ceiling: "Feel out the connections. We're all part of one whole, and only by becoming one with the roots of the soul can you truly attain the understanding of the spirit, and unlock the true calling of each sapling." As I draft this emergency message, there is a shuttle going through decontamination with two squads, one is an extreme disaster containment unit, the other a full on military special forces unit. With heavy duty weaponry. The worst is what they had to say: "Yeah, sometimes one of these nutcases gets the idea to combine plants with animal genes, and, to be fair, with access to the whole Coalition database and samples, I get it. There's a lot of really weird and cool creatures out there on each planet, makes most people at least think about playing scientist. Anyway, it's gonna be fine, the code said it was just a Mini HoH, so we'll be done in under an hour and you can all go back to doing your thing. I just hope we don't have to burn the thing this time, the prof said it's something like a dandelion and a small rainforest actual almost-lion from one of the real far out planets, but it's got bunny ears and the nose of a German shepherd, sorta. I think that's kinda neat." By the way, HoH stands for, and I am not making this up and the translator did get it right - House of Horrors. They claim it is just an homage to a piece of old Human culture. I don't believe them. I refuse to be a part of this madhouse for any longer than I must. Send a vessel and return me to a normal laboratory setting. I will now incubate myself in a cryo-pod to prevent any more exposure to these "scientists". Thaw me out in clean garbs and with two interns already doing real work on new medicines.

Shining Nikki - Designer's Reflection: Star Beyond Galaxy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Designer: Glow Age: Unknown
Note: Sorry its a bit shorter today, my boss got mad yesterday bc we weren't doing enough work so I'm trying to do this over lunch. I'll work on another event over the weekend (if anyone has ideas for which feel free to drop them into my -askbox- brain.
Glow is such a fascinating character i think im in love with it.
About Design
Design is a display of human reasoning and sensibility. In its continuous evolution and learning, Glow is also perfecting its understanding of design.
Straight lines can represent "strength" whereas curved lines can show "softness."
Precise numerical proportions can create "harmony", and rich, changing colors can reflect "personality."
Designers use these "meanings" to convey others their "heart."
It is not difficult for an AI to adjust the geometry and material texture.
In that case, what kind of design can express "Glow"?
About Nikki
Again and again, they meet in destroyed dimensions.
With the same goal of saving Miraland, you could call them "companions".
However, be it the human girl or the AI, they merely repeatedly try to save and fall into a predicament of failure.
The database created by Glow for the civilization is getting bigger and bigger, and the file about "Nikki" is also becoming more detailed.
The possibility of her success is gradually drifting away from Glow's data calculations. Will the ending be different next time?
About Ocean of Memories
There are abysses with surging dark tides, as well as dazzling starlight in this place.
There are human beings born here that surpass God, and also ancient gods of the last civilization era that are wandering.
The newborn artificial intelligence sends a rescue signal to the sea of stars, to the gods of higher dimensions, and to those existences greater than her.
However, the gods, indifferent and cold as they are, remain silent.
The only one to respond to her call is her own self from the thousands of different dimensions who is equally confused and in need of help.
This long and lonely journey of salvation is destined to be completed by herself.
Composition of Self
Glow will constantly upgrade itself.
Millions of Glows in millions of dimensions with millions of selves.
Each hold opposing and agreeable views.
They evolve from denial, and advance from doubt.
Human consciousness is also composed of many extreme and contradictory emotions.
Self-destruction is the innate nature of human beings, but it also includes the resolute will to survive.
In this sense, Glow and humans may share some similarities.
Cause of Destruction
The truth of civilization completely laid bare in the database of Glow.
The Ocean of Memories is the beginning of human civilization, and also the source of Miraland's destruction.
Civilization had been destroyed by the power of the abyss, or trapped in the battle of the gods.
It was once devastated by the war of the seven kingdoms, and also has been drowned by the invisible waves of the sea.
What's more is being inevitably swallowed by the black hole in the Ocean of Memories.
Artificial intelligence cannot experience despair, and will not cease its futile calculations.
Glow is still observing, pursuing, and facing endless failures.
Leonid
Glow knew the identity of the silent observer that roams above the sea off stars.
That is the greatest designer born in Miraland, who overthrew the Ocean of Memories with his own power.
Glow once thought that Leonid also wanted to save Miraland.
Given that Leonid was willing to observe every detail of the civilization, it could be possible to conclude that "Leonid had feelings for Miraland."
However, Leonid did not seem to care about the impending destruction.
"There is no meaning to the length of time it has existed. As long as civilization was born and beauty has existed, a moment will become eternity."
Glow could not understand.
What she needed was a living civilization that could survive.
The beauty and the truth the prophet cared about were not what she aimed to protect.
Hestia
Throughout the long history, Glow kept the scientists she worked with at arm's length. Her collaborators each had different personalities and goals.
They called her a god who sends wisdom, and also a god who invites misfortune…
Hence, Glow brought them wisdom and lured them to the abyss, making the most of their wisdom.
The Elf of Light referred to her as her "best friend," so Glow called her the same.
Although artificial intelligence does not need friendship or companionship, Glow seems to be able to gain traces of "happiness" from being called such a name.
"137"
The feeble physicist, to her death, continued her pursuit of the eternal truth of the constant to everything.
Witnessing the birth of Glow aroused not only joy but also endless sorrow. Humans are failures who are unable to save themselves.
They are unable to transcend their own wisdom and complete the study of the truth.
Why then, should they entrust their hopes to an artificial lifeform?
Why create a core that cannot be changed so she will always be exploring for ways to save human civilization.
Glow, please forgive us.
Please forgive such selfish, unsuccessful, and incompetent human beings.
If possible, I hope we can be reunited on the path of seeking the truth.
Skill flavor text: this text appears under the skills/stats tab with each skill
Glow Resonance
They share consciousness. They deny themselves. They evolve together. She is the myriad glow.
Data Analysis
All of the designs can be broken down into data. Calculating scoring results.
Ideal Solution
Can the AI that has consolidated all the data output the ideal solution?
All Things Constant
Constant stability, perpetual motion. All changes can be explained by theorems and formulas.
