The FNAF Multiverse (8/10)

Almost at the end of my introduction to the multiverse. Just two chapters left. (Closer to one chapter, really.)

Chapter 8: Exaverses

Ah, exaverses. It’s high time we talk about these properly. I’ve mentioned a few times about how while the focus of this AU is the FNAF multiverse, it is simply part of a bigger whole.

This ‘whole’ is the local exaverses. Exaverses contain a number of multiverses, and are generally reflective of genres, fanbases, and mediums. They are not based specifically on position, nor are they static. Exaverses can, and frequently do, overlap quite noticeably. For brevity, I’ll list just a few of the exaverses that the FNAF multiverse has been local to.

The HORROR Exaverse - This one is self-explanatory. FNAF started with a horror game, and it has become rather recognizable and well-known in the space. Though many would argue that it has since grown out of the horror label, and skews more towards the thriller label. Also contains Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Dracula, IT, The Thing, Creepypasta, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, and various other horror works.

The INDIE GAME Exaverse - Another self-explanatory one. FNAF began with an indie developer, and has inspired many independent developers, in turn. Also contains worlds such as Undertale, Super Meat Boy, Journey, Untitled Goose Game, Cuphead, Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, and various others.

The MASCOT HORROR Exaverse - This one is particularly interesting, as FNAF is, for all intents and purposes, the progenitor of this relatively new exaverse. While Bendy and the Ink Machine and Poppy Playtime are regarded as the type specimens of the Mascot Horror genre, FNAF is generally seen as the face of Mascot Horror, due to being so deeply influential to the themes of the genre. Also contains Tattletail, Amanda the Adventurer, Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning (though with a more parodic sentiment), Mr. Hopp's Playhouse, Duck Season, and several other properties, including The Banana Splits Movie and Willy’s Wonderland.

This obviously isn’t an exhaustive list, as the number of exaverses is basically countless, and their borders are fuzzy and subjective at the best of times. And not all of the universes encompassed by the FNAF multiverse are under the same exaverses. Some fanmade universes aren’t part of the HORROR exaverse because they aren’t meant to be scary, and some canon universes can’t be placed in the INDIE GAME exaverse because they aren’t indie and aren’t games.

I specifically made this chapter to address something that I know I’ll get asked, because it’s something I would ask, if I saw an AU like this. “Why does this logic apply to this property, but not others?” The answer is��� It does! Other franchises very much do have their own multiverses under this AU. I’m just focusing on the FNAF part of it because that’s the part that I’m most interested in. Certain multiverses have other rules under their community creators. Certain multiverses have a much more ‘closed-circuit’ approach than the FNAF multiverse. Others are more open. Some have a lot of movement between universes, while others have none.

And next time, that’s what we’ll be talking more about how the FNAF multiverse in particular handles movement between universes.

He heard the legend of Mount Ebott from the orphanage’s library books. He, and the orphanage’s people always dismissed it as a joke, a story made to scare the children away from exploring the mountain. But now he was desperate.

“...That existed together in a bigger plane of existence...”

“M-Mario...this is something bigger and dangerous than the usual princess kidnapping.” said his brother.

“Then, we’re-a getting reinforcements, Luigi.” said the plumber turning towards him. “Let’s stop Fawful and Dimentio.”

“They travelled between worlds and shared their cultures...”

El and Bev were literally surrounded. They knew they shouldn’t have headed out. One prepared her powers to face the monsters, while the other prepared her baseball bat.

Pennywise readied his teeth, Freddy his claws, Jason his motorsaw.

“To become something bigger.”

We cut to a hooded old man on a giant multicolor staircase. His face turned, he has a slightly long beard, broken glasses and light blue eyes and says, with a smile: “Wanna hear it?”

A giant battle between a dark-grey swarm of monsters and all of pop culture’s heroes and villains is about to take place in a technicolor battlefield. Villains, vehicles, ships, obscure characters. All of them. Even dead ones. Both sides charge at each other.

If dimensional nonsense be something you wish... you’ve come to the right place at this wiki. By far, this is the most bizarre and inexplicable wiki we have found yet. Bizarre as in, it makes you wonder whether or not it was actually built by humans. It’s so bizarre that I’ll need to make this post longer than usual.

The distance between the Earth and the Sun is roughly 150 000 000 km (or 1 AU, astronomical unit). This distance is roughly equal to travelling around planet Earth 3750 times (3750  × 40 000 = 150 000 000). The nearest star to Earth (other than the Sun), is Proxima Centauri, which is 4,25 light years away (= 268 768,8 AU, or about 1 billion times the Earth’s circumference.) The Milky Way Galaxy in turn is about ~110 000 light years across, meaning about 6 956 369 999 AU or again, or about 1 quintillion km). And the size of the observable universe finally, is about 93 billion light years, or about 930 million Milky Way galaxies across. Now, the aim of this post was not to be in awe at the true size of the universe, there are already plenty of other great tools for that.

Universal hierarchy

Now, that may all be unimaginably large, but some people(?) just never have enough. The bulk of the articles consist of things like the “(insertnamehere)Verse”, which is then said to be X times larger than “(insertothernamehere)Verse”. It is also stated what “verse” it contains and what “verse” it is contained by. Each time, it’ll be accompanied by a trippy visual that’s nonetheless quite pleasing to look at.

Basically, if the observable universe were “canon”, then this wiki would be “fan fiction”. Another way to put it would be that this wiki is the “expanding brain meme” of wikis. The wiki’s mainline seems to build its universal hierarchy like so:

Earth < Solar system < Milky Way Galaxy < Local Group < ((Super)clusters) < Universe < Multiverse < Megaverse (” a group collection many Multiverses, some Membraneverses, and Kiloverses, Hyperverse is in the center”) < Omniverse & Gigaverse

At this scale, the hierarchy seems to become divergent, already indicating a schism, so each hierarchy will be listed separately:

At this point, it should be clear that this wiki may be just a tiiiiny bit incoherent. It seems like a lot of the editing focuses on a dick-measuring contest of who can make up the largest “verse”. There’s one more that I want to mention seperately, Graham’s Universe, simply due to this quote:

Graham's Universe is mainly composed of black holes, as if you tried to imagine the size of the universe, your brain would collapse into a black hole as the universe is too big to comprehend.

BUT WAIT! There’s MORE! Did I mention yet that this wiki has 1067 pages? Aside from the countless other user-created hierarchies (way too many to list here), there’s a ton of extremely bizarre articles on theoretical hyperdimensional shapes, that would make even your maths teacher frown his eyebrows, like these:

Very overdue and experimental but egh... Just had this idea in my head that Jon keeps any gifts he gets from students super safely tucked away somewhere, but he'd absolutely never tell a soul.
