So Princess Tutu is my favorite show and Duck and Fakir are my sweet babies and I’ve been meaning to mention something I noticed in the opening and closing.

1.) In the opening when it shows quick successions of Mytho, Fakir and Rue dancing I could swear Fakir is doing the mime for love

2.) In the ending when Duck wakes up from dozing in the pond and looks up you see a reflection of someone on the water that looks to be wearing a boys uniform…presumably Fakir coming to visit after she went back to being a duck 🥹🥹

Thinking of an Anastasia (1997) AU for Princess Tutu.

Before getting into it more fully I always enjoy tweaking or even completely changing endings for AUs, if I just wanted these characters to act out that movie as is I'd be better off just doing screenshot edits. Since I'm taking out any and all actual history from this fairy tale (sadly the idea that Anastasia lived is a fairy tale, poor girl) I get to play around with culture and character motive and stuff like that. To that end:

First off we're gonna chuck that version of Rasputin entirely and just full on replace him with Drosselmeyer from the show. No changes, he's perfect.

Anastasia: Duck/Ahiru Dimitri: Fakir Vladimir: Autor (only instead of knowing the royal family he's just obsessed with them)

I haven't figured out the others yet, I'm thinking Edel might be a good replacement for Dowager Empress Marie (but maybe she's an auntie instead? Could keep her the actual grandma, still thinking).

The really fun part is what I can do to get the other characters in! Since we don't have to worry about historical accuracy I can have Duck stick around with Edel and you know... live with her. Actually be the rediscovered heiress and how all THAT plays out. Duck feels so out of place, she's so awkward when everyone around her is so elegant.

Pique and Lillie can be childhood friends that Edel reunites her with, and they remember her (as a child) but she doesn't remember them. They're happy to just pretend the last 15 (or whatever) years didn't happen and be chummy like they weren't separated, but Duck doesn't know how to deal with them.

Maybe Mytho is a prince from a foreign country and Rue is his betrothed. Duck is warned not to fall in love with him, that even if he weren't betrothed as the one and only heiress (to a country no longer under family's rule but semantics, don't worry about the politics) she can't marry the heir to another country. Duck is too busy admiring Mytho and Rue to pay attention to the warnings.

Ahiru is always enthralled with the two of them, which irritates Fakir, because Ahiru is very easily distracted. Lol

Interesting notes about this snippet of Prinz und Rabe shown in the show:

The prince is depicted as blonde. By the time baby Rue and baby Fakir run into him, his hair is white. Did it change color inside the text of the book, or was it some time after he exited its pages?

The protagonist is just called [the] "Prince". This makes sense; it's Fakir who gave him the name "Mytho", and characters speaking of his identity as a fairytale character simply call him "the prince from the story."

...which means that when he calls himself Siegfried, that name isn't anywhere in the pages of the text he was birthed from. What does this imply about story-beings? Not even his author calls him that!

Interesting that Tutu is the only named-in-text character we know of. "The prince," "the knight," "the raven"... those aren't names! Why, Watsonianly, would Princess Tutu be an exception? Doylistically, it's obviously because she's the main character of the anime we're all watching.

The illustration of Princess Tutu resembles the version seen emanating from Duck... after she had given up the pendant. There's also a piece of outside official art that depicts Tutu with wing-arms like this.

The existence of this old man (a mentor?) suggests that Drosselmeyer's book has more characters total than the relatively small cast that was needed to "re-start" the narrative in Goldkrone. This makes sense to me, honestly.

Izuku is Ahiru, Shouto is Fakir, Ochako is Mythos, Himiko is Rue, Shigaraki is Drosselmeyer, and AFO is the evil raven dad. Aizawa can be the cat teacher, except he's chill about it. None of that marriage shit. I guess that leaves All Might to be Shouto's foster dad??? (I mean, good for Shouto, I guess.) And Lilie and Pike can be Iida and Kirishima maybe?? Tsuyu as Edel???

The ending would be different from canon, lmaoooo. Tddk happy ending!

Actually I'm not going as niche as I could have because I have to go with one of the core loves of my life, instead. Princess Tutu is part of the foundation of my entire being and my fixation with the power of storytelling, similar to how Inkheart enchanted me even earlier in my youth; and Fakir is the embodiment of that idea. A character who at first allows himself to fall into the role which is written for him, serving as the dutiful, cold, callous knight he felt he had to be in order to protect the prince—but whose tender heart is revealed throughout the story, slowly opening, and reclaiming his agency as the author, rather than just a powerless character in someone else's story.

Now, if I'm being 100% real with you: MUCH of my motivation to write Fakir (and why I have written for him in the past—not in RP but in fanfiction) is deeply self-indulgent wish fulfilment. It's implied, at the end of it all, that he is pouring all his heart and effort into writing a story which would grant Ahiru the life she always dreamed of, that life which she sacrificed for the sake of everyone else's happy ending; their redemption, survival, and freedom from the tragedy which was always meant to be the end of the tale.

AND I. WILL DIE ON THE FAKIRU HILL. I WANT HIM TO SUCCEED!! MY TWO BEAUTIFUL ANGEL BABIES DESERVE THEIR HAPPY ENDING AND BY GOD I WILL SEE THEM HAVE IT!

I almost never get invested in, like... actual ships from shows/media. It just isn't my thing 99% of the time, with maybe 4 exceptions over the years of pairings I've gotten very attached to. These two are my number one.

Beyond that, though: I just think he's neat* :0)

This is Ahiru's primary strength: she doesn't think of anyone as an enemy (well, okay, except for maybe Fakir that one time when he was hella annoying, but he's fine now!) and that's what allows her to forge new paths--she believes in the fundamental goodness of humanity (despite not actually being human) and her faith is rewarded by the narrative, because this is a fairy tale, damn it.

3. what fandoms do you write for?

My fic-writing impulses come along like cicada seasons, except without any regularity whatsoever: I do a lot of dabbling in a lot of fandoms, I can never really tell if something's going to light my brain on fire. Most of my fic output came from Yuletide for a long while (I loved the grab bag aspect and writing little treats for small fandoms, but then my holidays got busier), and then Yuri on Ice and MDZS were my biggest fandoms by far, especially MDZS. I've written Yuwu recently, and I'd love to write some Trigun, LoZ, or Mysterious Lotus Casebook one of these days.

5. do you respond to comments?

I usually don't unless it's a request or a question, but I read and treasure every one.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I am too tender for Bad Endings for the most part, but my canon-verse Nie Huaisang fic after me comes the flood does not end in a particularly good place for anyone involved. (But even then, we know it gets better for him eventually... albeit at the expense of several bystanders)

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I tend to write pretty gentle, occasionally LIGHTLY bittersweet happy endings (that's the cafecliche guarantee baby) but part of me wants to say 'the only way out' (and probably 'the yunmeng accords' series in general) here. I tend to write fic when I want to play around with the emotions or relationship dynamics that can already be found in canon, so 'the yunmeng accords' is probably as close to a fix-it as I'm going to get.

8. do you get hate on fics?

Not usually! I was part of the Great MDZS Anon Hate Train of 2021, but that was the worst I've ever gotten by several magnitudes - the vast majority of commenters are fabulous.

9. do you write smut?

Not yet! It's not off the table, though.

10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you have written?

I actually don't think I've ever written a crossover! The closest I've ever gotten was when I look over my shoulder, but even that's 'Wangxian in a Conjuring-esque ghosthunters in love situation' and not really a formal Conjuring AU.

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

I've had plagiarism brought to my attention a couple times, but truly just a handful. I still remember getting a message on FF.net that someone had ripped off a line from my Black Lagoon fic. The SCANDAL of it all.

12. have you ever had a fic translated?

MDZS is the first fandom where I've gotten translation requests, which is always so cool! To my knowledge, I've had fics translated into Russian, Spanish, and Ukranian.

13. have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, but brainstorming fic concepts with my brilliant friends is one of my favorite thing in the world.

14. what's your all time favorite ship?

omg ever? Well Victuuri and Wangxian have been the ones that really lit my brain on fire (if I own the Nendos, it's serious) but let me also throw it back to Fakir and Ahiru in Princess Tutu. That is ROMANCE.

15. what is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I would have really liked to have one more entry to 'the yunmeng accords!' I had a couple of ideas that I really liked, but nothing that caught fire quite enough to dive into it. That said, I am currently working on something short and Yunmeng Shuangjie-related, at the very least...

16. what are your writing strengths?

Emotional through-lines, pacing, and that sweet, sweet catharsis. I'm drawn to particular fandoms when they leave me with an emotion that I need to break down over the course of several thousand words, and I know that shows through in my writing.

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

Choreography! I'm not a very visual thinker, so sometimes it takes me a while just to figure out how to block the characters in a given scene. I also have a lot of trouble getting into a draft until I figure out the voice, which, when it comes to fanfic, will either come to me extremely easily or not at all.

18. thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?

Yeah, absolutely! (But if you don't speak the language, do your research!)

19. first fandom you wrote for?

[rubs my temples] an X-Men crackfic.

20. favorite fic you have written?

Oh my god. WELL. 'grow' and 'the only way out' I think are the best fics I've written, and 'when I look over my shoulder' and 'the soft animal' are also extremely close to my heart. But 'detente' might be the favorite child. It just gushed out of me.
