i swear once my power comes back i am going to watch every single match these two have been in and this is a threat

had to cross the main north-south street in my small town today to go to the vet and if it's been a bit since i was on the west side of it bc there's been construction happening there for a while now but it wasn't until today that i noticed

it rly only impacted crosswalks and pedestrian traffic

i think it's a sidewalk being implemented or another bike lanez but smth is being done work wise on the far right of the road the entire way down, and will be for a while yet. there are cones and stuff blocking off cars from driving down the construction zone, but they're absent from intersections so cars can turn right off the main road to go down the street, even though the pathway is actively being paved so cars can't turn whenever and have to pay attn to what's going on

this is fine except for. if you're on foot (me!!) then you can't cross. i live on the right side of the road but even if you're on the left, you can't cross all the way over bc you can't cross that barrier on foot. this block goes all the way up the west side of campus that borders that main road and all the way down to the edge of town

the only way i made it across today is bc they're only having a certain section of it, so i ended up walking five blocks down where i needed to cross until i hit an intersection where the cones stopped. and where the crosswalk signals were still operational. i still had to step onto the "construction zone" it just wasn't an active zone so it was fine, but i feel like

there rly should have been a better way to do this. there was a vehicle rolling down 3-4 blocks and access stopped by construction crew for the other several blocks, but past that, that means there's partial construction continuing for another 6-7 blocks on either end (north and south) of the active construction zone. and this apparently changes frequently!!

idk i feel like, there has to be an easier way to have updates on which section of the road is closed. this town is small enough that i can walk everywhere fine, but lately ive been getting more and more frustrated by how little access there is for pedestrian traffic. especially bc on my way home, there's a school right next to the main road i needed to cross and it was late enough in the day for cars already to be lined up on either end of the road i was on waiting for kids to get out of school. that's not uncommon but it is annoying when there's no sidewalk and the road has been reduced to a one-way one car lane.

if you walk close enough to campus at the wrong time, this happens bc there not enough parking space so students parallel park on random residential streets as close as possible to campus instead. it again creates the same problem, where cars going opposite ways have to take turns driving down sections of the street bc of lack of room. it makes walking impossible bc you literally have to walk down the middle of the road.

idkkkk today has just been a day. it takes ten minutes to get my cat to the vet but it was bordering 25 today bc i had to go down so far and then back up!! crossing that big road w her is stressful as is, but the fact that i rly had to stand up on it while being mindful of construction to see how far down the zone was blocked was a nightmare. -2/10 awful experience would never do again (will probably have to do again for the next 2-3 months aaaaaaa)

AAAAAAAAA I.. I have already spammed the entire offtop in VK and Twitter with emotions! I've never cried over a game so much in my life. Even over the last part of GoW, even over those games that I also immensely love. But the most important thing is that I have never cried SO much with happiness in my life. Not from grief, not from pain or fear. But from happiness and love. I've never experienced anything like this so much. My great respect to Santa Monica Studio.

Usually, when I like the game so much, I roll up a write of pages of criticism, (yes, you saw how I reviewed FarCry6 and the DLC for it), but here I surprisingly have nothing to say. With the exception of comments about the overload and prolongation of the game by events and too frequent monotonous battles. But these are just remarks, and not so weighty disadvantages that I drop the game. We have already joked with friends about some similar parallels between GoW and FC6, from dictatorship and uprisings, to character relationships, and agreed that GoW is an example of how it was necessary to build emotional cutscenes and the plot as a whole in FC6. Ubisoft, please learn. And of course it's a pity for the cut-out content with Sinmara. Thanks to her, Atreus could again evoke controversial feelings, show himself from an interesting side, and Kratos' words about the heart would play stronger. It would be possible to shorten any quests like collecting pear or going for the moon and thanks to this dont cut-out Sinmara, but we have what we have. After all, GoW is one of the most powerful, in my opinion, in terms of the concept and its artistic interpretation, the game. Scandinavian mythology is a very popular topic, but the way developers adapt it, intertwine the plot and gameplay, make incredible designs and environments, bright characters is priceless in the gaming industry.

And that's all I could say about criticism. And if I start to remember and look for all the little things, including replicas that I liked so much, then I really will roll 20 pages again, but I don't need it... Moreover, I am already bursting with headcannons as I returned to Midgard 4 years later, not without the help of Heath or Tobeas, as always, and again went all this way and emotions with characters that I already missed from the last time. Well, this time my friends are with me, who can even nullify Kratos' patience :)

Another note - I've also never cried in my life from the fact that the character just stayed alive I had previously jumped with happiness and screamed like hell when Vaas turned out to be alive, when Pagan did not die in the end. But that's exactly CRYING so hard, this is the first time.. Literally since 2018, I've been waiting for Kratos to die, all the characters have been waiting and afraid, and we're with them, and in the end I'm just.... AAAAAAA I haven't seen such a happy ending even in a Disney movie ..... I just love these characters and the game

Its coffee anon, its been so long since I’ve last sent an ask but my life has been really hectic and i wasn't really in the right mental state for a while which is why I haven't sent an ask in so long! From what I remember, the last post I wasnt able to comment on was the last part of I love you so which is such a shame because I was sobbing crying and grinning by the end of it all. I love that you included all the parallels at the beginning because it added just the perfect amount of pain in my heart before even getting started. AND THEN THE DRAMA HIT! I distinctly remember holding back a scream bc i was reading pt 4 at like 2am in the morning and when she ran out in the rain i had to take a breather before I actually burst and THEN DILUC RUNS AFTER HER AND I JUST LOST IT, AAAAAAA WHEN HE WHEN HE WHEN HE JUST im still feeling the tingle of excitement and thrill when reading that part to this day and it just felt like i was there at the time and i honestly started sobbing when he finally confessed bc i was just so happy that THEYRE THERE! THEY FINALLY GOT IT! LIKE YES BESTIES YOU LOVE EACH OTHER! I'm really glad we got to see what happened after but kaeya’s part had me holding in a big sob cause that's my comfort husbando right there, like ilysm kaeya pls im sorry but im just glad the dearest couple finally had there happy ending bc they deserve it and i just love them okay?

The next one seems to be Diluc’s big family 1 but I'm gonna talk abt the whole series here bc i dont want to overshare hehe, for some context i don’t really like kids except for a select few, kids seem to like me well enough but Ive always been a little annoyed with them growing up but this series has me rethinking everything honestly. The first part had me all smiley bc of how sweet it would be to see diluc coming home and just 4 kids hounding him as a welcome touches my heart. Part 2 had me cackling bc i love the reactions of everyone and i can just imagine the overwhelming look of surprise and disbelief on their face when they see the ragvindr family. Then part 3 was just wholesome sweet chaos and a perfect mix of the last two parts AND THE KAEYA APPEARANCE AT THE END? Totally see him doing that i love him sm pls, anyway i love all the kids and i would do anything for them

Up next is another angst with diluc but this time it's with my newest comfort character, ayato. When i first read this one I knew that I was going to be hurt but i did NOT expect it to hit me as hard as it did AHAHAHA when it got to the goodbye part I IMMEDIATELY thought of that scene in little women (i havent watched the movie but ive seen the scene multiple times bc the acting and emotion is just amazing) i was surprised to find out that i was actually right! Anyway, this drabble broke me bc i just know that having this perfect connection but not being able to follow it is so painful for both parties and i cant help but cry for them

The next one is the kid! Kamisato! Reader having a crush on thoma and when I tell you I cackled so hard I might have hit my hand a little bit too hard on my desk. The situation is just so hilarious and I love the idea of young Ayato losing control of his emotions bc his little sister decided that she likes sweet thoma more than him and I cant get his cute little pout out of my head which is why I keep laughing a lot. I actually had a crush who rejected me so gently that we actually became friends after and i liked them more because of how sweet they were honestly so i can totally see thoma as the type to let someone down so nicely that you cant even be sad! The ending made me lose it again though AHAHHAHA the poor boba (1/2) ~coffee anon

Say whatever else you will about Brakiss, he knows how to make a dramatic entrance:

I’d forgotten Brakiss was blond, which makes the Luke parallels EVEN MORE OBVIOUS AAAAAAA. I always imagine him in my head as Space Edwards Scissorhands, but Tamith Kai is the goth one of the Shadow Academy’s Evil Power Duo with her violet eyes, pale skin, and dark hair and jumpsuits. 

(does this mean that Tamith Kai is the Mara analogue here or am I reading too much into this)

“Welcome, new recruits,” he said in a gentle voice that carried undertones of music. “I am Brakiss, leader of the Shadow Academy.”

Obviously, Brakiss has leveled up on his charisma since The New Rebellion, lol.

 “Brakiss?” he said. “Blaster bolts! We’ve heard about you. You were an Imperial spy planted at Master Skywalker’s academy, trying to steal our training methods.”

Brakiss smiled as if inwardly amused.

“That’s right,” Jaina continued excitedly. “Master Skywalker figured out who you were, but when he tried to turn you to the light side-to save you-you couldn’t face the ugliness inside yourself.”

Brakiss’s smile never faltered. “Ah, so that’s how he tells it? Master Skywalker and I did not agree on the … particulars of training in the Force. But he had at least one good idea: He was correct to bring back the Jedi Knights. He realized that the Jedi were the preservers and protectors of the Old Republic. They unified the decaying old government and kept it alive long after it should have dissolved into anarchy.

“And now that there is anarchy among the remnants of the Imperial forces, we need such a unifying force. We have already found a powerful new leader, a great one”-Brakiss smiled-“but we also need our own group of Dark Jedi Knights, Imperial Jedi, who will cement our factions together and give us the will to defeat the wicked and unlawful government of the New Republic and bring about the Second Imperium.”

OH MY GOD, HE COMES OUT AND SAYS IT. I cannot believe I’d forgotten this!!

I don’t know why Brakiss is so gung-ho about kidnapping Luke’s students, except for the “fuck you” value. It is an objectively stupid plan since they’re too old to indoctrinate effectively, and he had a much easier time with Zekk, who was angry about not being a Main Character.

“This is not a school of darkness. I call this a Shadow Academy, for what does life create by its very nature, if not shadows? And it is only through using the full range of your emotions and desires-the light and the dark-that you will become truly strong in the Force and fulfill your destiny. The light side by itself offers only limited power. But when the light is blended with the dark, and you work within the shadows, then you achieve your full potential. Use the strength of the dark side.”

Is this Grey Jedi discourse before Grey Jedi were a thing? No, it’s the Shadow Academy, because it’s a shadow of Luke’s academy, with Brakiss mimicking Luke’s pedagogy in almost every way possible. But is it really a Legends novel if the Solo twins haven’t been kidnapped?

You can tell Brakiss is super-edgy because he spends his time contemplating  destruction on a galactic scale:

Now, as he pondered, he stared at the brilliant images surrounding him on the walls: a waterfall of scarlet lava on the molten planet Nkllon; an exploding sun that spewed arcs of stellar fire in the Denarii Nova; the still-blazing core of the Cauldron Nebula, where seven giant stars had all gone supernova at once; and a vista of the broken shards of Alderaan, destroyed by the Empire’s first Death Star more than twenty years before.

Brakiss recognized great beauty in the violence of the universe, in the unbridled power provided by the galaxy or unleashed by human ingenuity.

Brakiss drummed his fingertips on the slick surface of his desk. Occasionally, he felt twinges of sadness for having left the Yavin 4 training center. He had learned much there, though his own mission for the Empire was always uppermost in his mind.

A hostage to darkness, Brakiss was never allowed to leave the Shadow Academy. By order of the great leader, he would remain there, confined, until he and all his trainees had proven themselves.Brakiss found that sitting on a huge bomb made it difficult to concentrate.

Chekhov’s gun? Chekhov’s SPACE STATION, am I right? But also: Brakiss is still effectively a prisoner of the Empire himself, determined to inflict his own trauma on the next generation and also to get back at Luke Skywalker for forcing him to face it.

Also, let’s just contrast this with the New Republic’s extremely laissez-faire approach to the New Jedi Order during the Bantam era, shall we?

It’s really interesting to re-read Shadow Academy  after Red Harvest, not only because of the YA vs. adult fiction shift, but because Red Harvest is what an actual Sith Academy would look like, rather than the Shadow Academy’s playacting. The Shadow Academy is composed primarily of lies and illusions, the Sith Academy is violent and cutthroat and deadly.

“You young Jedi Knights continue to impress me. Master Skywalker must be doing a good job selecting his candidates.”

“Better candidates than you’ll ever get,” Jaina said, finding the strength to defy him despite her injuries.

“Indeed,” Brakiss agreed. “That’s why we decided to take some of those that he has already selected. You three were only the first we obtained from the Jedi academy. You’ve shown such potential that we are now ready to kidnap another group from Yavin 4. From there, we’ll have all the Jedi students we could possibly use.”

OH MY GOD BRAKISS COULD YOU BE ANY MORE TRANSPARENT IN YOUR ‘NOTICE ME SEMPAI’ ANTICS??!!!

But then Luke shows up so we get a dramatic reunion sequence with deliberate parallels to A New Hope: 

When the red door slid open ahead of him, Luke Skywalker stood transfixed. He stared at the sculpture-handsome face of his former student.

“Brakiss!” he whispered in a voice that carried across the docking bay, even above the chaos of shrieking alarms.

Brakiss stood where he was with a faint smile. “Ah, Master Skywalker. So good of you to come. I thought I sensed you here on my station. Are you impressed at how well I have done for myself?”

Fortunately, Luke deliberately refrains from pulling an Obi-wan and escapes with the others instead of confronting his wayward ex-student, so the final confrontation is dodged. But just in case you were wondering where Luke stood on the matter:

Luke Skywalker’s gaze did not waver. “No one is completely evil. Or completely good.” He flashed a rueful smile. “At least nobody I’ve ever met.”

Luke still holds out hope that Brakiss is going to come back, and it’s not happening, at least in canon, but damn if that doesn’t make their relationship even more tragic than it already was.

i really love keith’s development as a leader, he thought he was replacing shiro until he was told that he wasn’t. his “please no” really broke my heart.first he’s going head first into battle and making mistakes, but he learns from it.

HONESTLY LEMME TALK ABOUT LANCE FOR A MINUTE, he had really great moments in this short season. he’s the one who steps in a gives really good advice and heartfelt moments with keith, he even came to him when he was doubting himself. he was just so supportive for keith and respected the lion’s choice, even thought he didn’t want it at first. when blue straight up blocked him out, he’s like heartbroken at first, but realizes he has to go to red in order to help the team. sure, he had some bumps along the way but he ended up doing great! he loves red, not as much as blue but you know. and him talking to blue and saying if anyone had to pilot blue besides him, he’s glad it’s allura. SUCH A GOOD FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN LANCE AND ALLURA OK. PLUS HIS RED BAYARD TURNS INTO A SNIPER RIFLE NOW HOW FUCKING COOL IS THAT?!

MORE ALLURA CONTENT AND I AM LIVING!!!! i felt sorry for her that she wasn’t able to pilot the red lion, since her father was the original red paladin, she wanted to do her rightful duty as his daughter, but it wasn’t meant to be. when she takes over blue though, she was pleasantly surprised and happy she’s able to pilot blue. and let me bring back the point that lance saying he’s glad it’s allura piloting blue now. because that’s important to me.

HUNK AND PIDGE!! TECH BUDS!! BEST BUDS!!! there really wasn’t a lot of moments that stood out except in episode one of this season where they are off doing their own things. hunks piloting skills have gotten a lot better and i’m so proud of him. pidge is still looking for matt but it’s only shown in the first episode, but she’s really analyzing hard. she’s getting closer and i’m proud. but this season didn’t really focus much on them so there’s not a lot to say and i’m salty.

the whole voltron backstory has me s h o o k e t h . i called honerva being haggar as soon as she showed her face. haggar and zarkon before being corrupted was a tragic love story and i didn’t see it coming. i loved the backstory and i’m glad we have it now.

the “i’m a leg” parallels with allura and the original yellow paladin. blessed moments.

i really love keith’s development as a leader, he thought he was replacing shiro until he was told that he wasn’t. his “please no” really broke my heart.first he’s going head first into battle and making mistakes, but he learns from it. 

HONESTLY LEMME TALK ABOUT LANCE FOR A MINUTE, he had really great moments in this short season. he’s the one who steps in a gives really good advice and heartfelt moments with keith, he even came to him when he was doubting himself. he was just so supportive for keith and respected the lion’s choice, even thought he didn’t want it at first. when blue straight up blocked him out, he’s like heartbroken at first, but realizes he has to go to red in order to help the team. sure, he had some bumps along the way but he ended up doing great! he loves red, not as much as blue but you know. and him talking to blue and saying if anyone had to pilot blue besides him, he’s glad it’s allura. SUCH A GOOD FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN LANCE AND ALLURA OK. PLUS HIS RED BAYARD TURNS INTO A SNIPER RIFLE NOW HOW FUCKING COOL IS THAT?!
