Tried my hand at making a page doll for my boy Phantasmagoria!

I haven't done pixel art in actual years, so I'm really happy with this. I think it'll make a great footer or header for his bio for when I do eventually get art comm'd of him.

A great example of investing vs not investing us in a scene on purpose, I'm gonna use two different shows' examples but you'll follow along regardless:

In The Bear, Carmy promised Sydney he would work on the menu with her but spends time with Claire instead.

In Stranger Things, Mike intends to look for El, who is crying alone somewhere, but instead stops to talk to Will about their relationship.

In the first, we root for Sydney. In the second, we root for Mike and Will. Why?

In The Bear, they tell(show) us "Carmy promised Sydney he'd work with her" then have him spend time with Claire instead. Additionally, we are shown Sydney alone without him and irritated about that throughout. Now, they have made every moment with Claire he is happy and relaxed - something we should be rooting for because we never see him like that - instead recognize a broken promise and stress he is causing someone we care about.

In Stranger Things, we see Mike and Will looking for El together before it comes up in an argument about looking for her that they haven't talked all day and they stop walking, stop looking for her, to argue about why they didn't keep in touch. After this conversation is over, they continue walking to look for her and the camera zooms in to reveal they just walked past the closet she was crying in. But in this scene, they have given us permission to become invested in Mike and Will's conversation by allowing us to temporarily forget about El. In not telling us where she was until after, or even confirming/showing that she was still crying, we were able to treat the scene as if it were just about Mike and Will, dropping the urgency to find her completely and allowing the pause on it to happen.

Had they shown him with Claire then revealed that he had stood Sydney up, or even omitted the clips of her upset with him, we likely would have been able to root for Carmy and Claire.

Had they started the scene with El crying in the closet, not yet having been found, or at any point shown her overhearing the fact that they stopped looking and started talking about something else, we would not have been invested in their conversation at all.

THAT is how they manipulate who you side with. That is how they make you root for who they want you to root for. That is how they, as I say, don't write what you want, but make you want what they write.

So simple, so small: order of clips, inclusion of the affected character or not. And it changes entirely what you thought were your own voluntary desires for how the story goes next.

It's the same situation, it's fascinating to study. One person shirks their responsibilities to someone who needs them to spend time with another love interest. And they got us to root for different people in near identical situations. But not identical shot lists.

THIS is the shit I LOVE to study. How to puppeteer an audience while letting them think they formed their own opinions. AMAZING.

Wow, this was SUCH A PLEASURE to watch. I am beyond grateful that she decided to make a video of this. I am a visual person so these things always hit harder if I actually get to see them.

I did not expect Wakana to cry THIS MUCH XD Poor baby!! Above, you'll find a compilation of some of the most touching moments of the podcast (with subtitles provided by yours truly - don't ask me how long it took to figure this shit out). I found myself breaking into tears almost as often as Wakana. I just can't see my girl crying without tearing up as well.

Now I REALLY regret not submitting a message for the episode. January was just way too stressful so I wasn't in the right mindset to sit down and write anything decent. Even on good days, I struggle to come up with something so when times are hectic, it's almost impossible...*sighs*

The AphidClan Code

1. Unless the clan is given reason to defend itself, all outsiders and other clans are to be treated with respect and dignity. Those who seek shelter and mercy in truth shall never be denied. All exile decisions must be decided in majority council vote between the leader, the deputy, and the healer (or healers). If needed, the leader—or any other cats of leadership—can be voted out of their own clan and exiled for cruel and criminal behavior.

6. Respect the dead. Bury those that have fallen and never hunt to waste.

7. A cat must have trained or be training at least one apprentice before they can be considered for the role of Deputy.

8. A kit must be at least six moons old to be apprenticed. All apprentices must have a mentor.

9. A clan must be led by a leader, a deputy, and at least one healer at all times. If the deputy has died, retired, or been exiled, then a new choice must be selected by the leader by six moons past. If the leader, deputy, and healer have all been removed, what remains of the clan will collectively vote on and select their successors.

10. If a war must be waged on a rival colony, then the leader, deputy, and the healer(s) must hold council on the decision. The majority vote will decide whether or not war is waged.

Meet me outside - Lovely little quick watch from the Philippines. Six episodes all under fifteen minutes, packs a sweet little love story into a small space. 3/5 (1/1/25)

Just Friends? - A very early one from Korea. This is from a queer director and you can strongly feel that vibe. I liked this a lot and thought it was realistic but never, as Korean queer stuff often is, particularly depressing. The leads are massive actors now and it’s clear even from here why that is. 4/5 (I actually finished this before Xmas)

Plus & Minus - Mostly fine. The leads were cute and the side couple a little dull. The last few episodes of this are poopoo bananas and pulled this down from a 4 to a 3. You could happily skip episodes 10 & 11 and go 9 - 12 instead. 3/5 (7/1/25)

See Your Love - Delightful. Leads were extremely charming with great chemistry. Personally I liked that this didn’t lean too much into the dramatic. Didn’t enjoy the needless female s/an and, overall, the two female characters felt a bit redundant. But overall I loved it. 4/5 (8/1/25)

Exclusive Fairytale - On its surface this is a very typical youth cdrama and is that but it also had more under its belt. The cast chemistry was great, it didn’t rely on having a big idol name as its lead and it tied everyone’s stories in a satisfying way. There was also a little more adult humour than I was really expecting. 4/5 (12/1/25)

The Trauma Code - I’m afraid this was made for me. As a love of OTT medical procedural shows this had everything I needed. Excellently good fun from start to finish. Would have been a five but knocked a point because it just wasn’t long enough/the episodes weren’t long enough to allow for real character depth. 4/5 (24/1/25)

Fourever You Project - I enjoyed this a lot but it also had potential to be more than it was. It was obvious the second couple needed more time and I also think more attention should have been paid to the chemistry between Pond & Earth as, especially in comparison with the 2nd couple, it was weak. 3/5 (26/1/25)

The Heart Killers - Show was an up and down one for me. I enjoyed the ride but I found it quite holey and quite a typical Jojo ‘my ideas were too big for the scale I had’ ending. The character work was strong and the acting was excellent all round. I just needed some polyfill for the holes. 3 ½/5 (12/2/25)

Your Sky - It wasn’t my sort of drama,so it was never going to bowl me over, but it gets a solid 3/5. The cast was charming and the story meandered less than I expected it might. It was still a bit over long in some places and too short in others though. Not one I’ll rewatch but enjoyable. It suffered the same thing that I hate about cutie pie; too many characters that never get developed well. If you’re giving me friendships then I want friendships. Not hollow things just there to show off sub pairings you’re trying to promote. 3/5 (20/2/25)

Jack & Joker - I finished this a while ago and I’ve been torn on how to rate it/what to write about it. I enjoyed a lot of this but the balance of this show was entirely off. The tone varied too wildly, for me, for it to ever be a truly quality watch. Yin and War seem to have this idea that misery, shock and pain make a show more important or a better quality and that just isn’t true. You could cut out 90% of the trauma from this show and it would be better. So, yea, I still don’t really know how to rate this because it’s not bad, it’s inarguably a well made show and it’s a huge thing that Yin & War fought to make what they wanted to make. But the tone was too all over and this is something I will never rewatch. 2/5 (18/2/25)

FC Sold Out - A short, low budget KBL that was consistently well acted and enjoyable every week. Not complex in any respect, a little rushed from only having eight short episodes but a great little show and would make a good binge. 3 ½/5 (7/3/25)

Gelboys - Just delicious. Enjoyable from start to finish and did teenage stupidity and angst better than anything else I’ve watched. There really was nothing I’d have changed about this. All the characters felt realistic and were genuinely interesting and unique. 5/5 (22/3/25)

Perfect 10 Liners - Honestly this was made for me. I love ensembles, I’m a P’New defender and I enjoy all the main pairings. Each story here was different and I enjoyed them all for different reasons. Arc & Arm was the weaker one for me but it really picked up from there. Faifa & Wine were my favourites, JuniorMark did some stunning work honestly, but I was also delighted by Yotha & Gun. (I’m so happy to have Santa back.) 4/5 (6/4/25)

Resident Playbook - This is another made for me drama. Twelve episodes all a nice juicy hour twenty to hour forty telling the story of OB-GYN residents. This is set in the Hospital Playlist universe, another series I adored, and I loved it from the start. All the characters were unique and loveable in their own ways and I enjoyed seeing them bond. 5/5 (19/5/25)

I've always found Alexander Saburov interesting, especially P1 Rubin's take on him where he tells how Alexander in incognito saved people from burning house and went unrecognized for the deed (nor flaunted it). Wonderful and easy to miss characterization.

YES saburov's fucked up sense of performing duty by putting himself at risk... my favorite... have had thoughts brewing in response to this that aren't quite cooked enough yet but it's very much a gendered standard that he holds himself to IMO, of idealized masculinity as a responsibility. as an active role and as the way things must be done. making the choices that he thinks need to be made regardless of how bad they are for him. pairing beautifully with katerina's self-destructive attempts to conform to the extremely feminine-gendered role of mistress, pairing wonderfully with the two of them's catastrophic attempt to conform to the heteropatriarchal nuclear family archetype by adopting the changeling :^) and especially how this is a function of how saburov relates to his Job, a role that's been passed down in his family and Actually Is critical to the function of the Town, inescapably so as long as the system of rulers exists
