I think the part that frustrates me the most is the fact that THEY CREATED THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY FOR A COMPLETELY UNHINGED VAMPIRE GUILLERMO AND THEY FUCKING SQUANDERED IT

give me a later wwdits season when nandermo is canon and guillermo is getting a bit older and nandor worriedly rants to the others about what to do because. they’ve wasted so much time. his lifetime is so small compared to theirs, and nandor doesn’t think he’ll ever be ready to lose guillermo. the others echo the sentiment

so they go through a magical creature glossary trying to figure out what else guillermo can be turned into where he wouldn’t have to kill people so he could stay with them- his family- forever

I was simultaneously dreading and waiting for this interview from Dominic Zamprogna. I knew it would make it even more final that Kelly Monaco's Sam McCall is gone. I also knew that Dominic would knock it out of the park with those final scenes. He did. Some of his best work IMO on the show. He poured his heart and soul into Dante's grief. He didn't hold back. For that I will be forever thankful.

Just a couple of quotes that I loved:

“My monologues were her last scenes, so we finished those scenes and I basically said good-bye to Kelly then and there,” shares Zamprogna, who adds that in her final weeks of filming, “She was amazing. Amazing, amazing, amazing.”

"... She’s tough as nails and admirable in so many ways, and it’s been cool to become a friend of hers. And that won’t end. It’s just that there is still an ending because you’re not working with someone anymore.”

"I’ve been with her in very emotional states myself and we became very able to tell each other very personal things and kind of talk each other through moments that I never would have anticipated that I would have with her because she gives off such a ‘tough girl’ vibe and she’s extremely cool and confident. But nobody is always cool and confident and tough, and that is what really endeared me to her. I just loved getting to know her, understanding who she really was, because she’s deep and complex.”

"But I’ve found the greatest things in my life have come when it feels like a door is closing. And I was really trying to emphasize that to her.”

While their working relationship at GH has come to an end, Zamprogna and Monaco’s friendship continues. “I still check in on her every week,” he says.

It's very much in keeping with all the characters being kind of clueless that Guillermo doesn't realize having Derek attempt to turn him DID bring him closer to to the others. It just wasn't in the way he thought.

Lazlo tried to find a solution to his partially transformed state. Nadja fought the doctor and the aides at the familiar hospital to keep them from killing Guillermo. Colin kept his secret even though usually Colin delights in doing things that bring out chaos. And when Nandor saw just how much distress being a vampire was causing Guillermo, he wanted very much to do something about it. That is very much an act of love. And all the members of the household were willing to go along with the fake ceremony.

I've long thought that Guillermo (and all familiars) want to become vampires because they feel insignificant and powerless. Taking a job as a familiar really seems to be the wrong way to prove you're fit to be granted significant power. And it's not as if Guillermo becoming a vampire is the only way for him to have an emotionally intimate relationship with Nandor. As I said in a previous post, Nandor can give the lamp to Guillermo and then Guillermo gets a set of wishes. He could wish Nandor to be human (which Nandor at one point wanted to be again). He could wish to be immortal without being a vampire. He could wish to be the owner of a biotech company that makes artificial blood and then be transformed when it's no longer necessary to take lives to be a vampire. I'm certain there are other ideas out there.

Everyone in the household has demonstrated in some way in season 5 they care about Guillermo. I've long thought for him to have a healthy relationship with Nandor his subservient status in which he's usually disregarded by the others had to end. And it has ended.

Perhaps that's why the Guide is a regular character now. She's the one who's usually disregarded by the household. And I have to wonder if her giving away info to the Baron and then to Nandor were not innocent slips. She may think if Guillermo is killed it may improve her chances to be an accepted member of the household.

Honestly, I really do believe Guillermo's character arc peaked at season 3, and he has just not been the same since then.

S3 Guillermo was powerful and confident and sure of himself, and he had finally attained that agency and unique strength he had been searching for his whole life all on his own. He may not have become a slayer by choice, but in s3, he had finally gotten to a place where he was fully embracing that side of himself anyway and he was having fun with it.

Season 4 completely derailed his entire development on that front (not including the Night Market fight sequence), and then with the writers suddenly deciding that he shouldn't even want to be a vampire anymore this season (like, seriously, ??????) with no real reason to support that choice other than wanting to set everything back to the "status quo," well. It makes for a very confusing trajectory for his growth as a whole.

I guess I'm just not understanding where they're heading and why they're writing him so differently now when they had something going that was SO SO GOOD before.

Season 3 Guillermo my beloved, I'm so sorry they did this to you, you didn't deserve ANY of that.
