BUT ANYWAY!!!!

this week (oct 9 to oct 13) is THE exact same dates as the week my LIS AU "Life is Weird" takes place (in 2017 tho), so this infodump will be ALL about that AU in particular!!! also bc the 6-year anniversary of the blog was last month ♥

EDIT: putting this under a cut actually, so i don't have a mile-long post lol. also, i think i'll make a pinned post with a list of all my other AUs for reference! i have a LOT of half-baked ones i'd love to talk about as well

so:

Life is Weird is a Life is Strange-inspired AU i created in 2017!

the askblog it started with (@asklifeisweird) follows Michael as the protagonist (a la max caulfield), and Jeremy as the equivalent to chloe price.

there's a couple more roles that were originally fairly 1:1 (squip as jefferson, rich as nathan, chloe as victoria, christine as kate, dustin as rachel), but over the years they've mostly grown away from being "reskins" as me and my boyf keep developing the au!

i've also stolen several characters from the BMC book– either entirely or just in name– to fill the background space/chars, since LIS has a whole world of characters and BMC as a musical kinda... didn't, at least back in the day :'D now there's more named bg chars, but keep in mind this AU started before even the 2017 Exit82 revival, so we had uhhh about 11 characters and a book. anyway.

while the askblog itself hasn't exactly gotten very far in the story yet, the au has grown to include more LIS-based ideas as That franchise grew, alongside a lot of our own brainstorming ofc!! there's SEVERAL other stories planned following other characters besides Michael, and a lot of different timelines i'd LOVE to explore (some during blog canon, some just in side stories)

not to mention: since conception, the blog has gone through so many styles of getting the story out there that i consider it a multimedia project at this point. askblog with square panel comics in between, full-on comic pages, writing/fics... and most recently, bust-sprites with different expressions and text in between. i'm also working to add interactive fiction into the mix!!

Michael's story (nicknamed "Redshift" behind the scenes) mostly follows the same beats as the first LIS game, but the further in we get the more we've added to it. i'm especially excited for the LIW-equivalent to the alternate timeline LIS1 shows in (iirc) ep4, as well as the timeline post-Redshift that's inspired by the LIS1 comics :)

shifting tracks, i mentioned this was started Before the first musical revival. because of that and the revival coming out like 2 months later, a lot of the original character designs were based off the 2RT/2015 cast, the E82/2017 cast, or entirely headcanon-based. since then, as more productions happened, appearances have shifted or changed completely!

off the top of my head, some of the more notable ones are:

jeremy: 2RT for current, E82 for younger

brooke: E82 for current, 2RT/NYC for younger

dustin: originally all headcanon, now mainly E82 with some hc

jenna: originally 2RT, now mainly NYC

jake: originally 2RT, now NYC + clothing insp from 2RT

i'd like to take inspiration from other productions as well tbh, but i can't change full appearances much anymore since i've done the fullbody sprites already and i don't wanna completely redraw anyone if i don't have to XD

I was planning a Michael Hoodie. But not. Like. Accurate. I think this was when there were very few clear pictures of the patches on his hoodie. And I was making it slightly tailored to me (see the nz and tino rangatiratanga flag, the ace and pan flag, and the van gogh mention) (back when i thought i was pan)

i genuinely could not tell you what half of this said, but this was the beginning of writer!jake for me

some things about the bmc show today

i have a lot to say bc it was,,, So Good (under the cut)

So I’m gonna start with shit about the audience and everything. I was really nervous about the audience being really loud or obnoxious, but they were pretty decent! Before the show started, everyone was yelling and it was a lot, but once it started people tried to make their cheering not last long because they all wanted to hear everything and it was a great time! I didn’t even hear anyone singing along, which was even better!!

So time to go through each of the characters and the ships that had interactions-

Jeremy-

-He was really dorky and had a nice soft voice and he was great

-He flopped around a lot when the Squip entered

-He was just,, too good for words

-His outfit was HORRIBLE and SO Jeremy and I loved it

-At the end of Be More Chill (pt 2) the ensemble members were carrying him to bed and they just threw him and it was so funny

-Before Michael In The Bathroom Jeremy shoved Michael into the bathtub when calling him a loser

-Jeremy had a space-themed backpack and astronaut figurines in his room

-Plus a pokeball in his room

Michael-

-He acted really high during More Than Survive and I loved it

-He literally lit a (fake) blunt during Two Player game it was SO funny

-His Michael in the bathroom in my opinion was better than George’s like he was crying so hard and his voice kept breaking and it was SO good

-During the Pants Song Michael was wearing a black onesie and it was really cute

-Also during the Pants Song when Mr. Heere asked if Michael loved Jeremy he immediately yelled “WHAT?!” like he was defensive about it

-During The Play when he makes his entrance he was literally sitting in the audience before hopping up on stage

-When all the Squipped kids were screaming he steps back before screaming “what the FUCK!?”

-Also when singing about being cool in college he did some dabs

Christine-

-Her OUTFIT oh my god she wore a cute salmon sweater with short overalls and kitty socks,, I loved it so much.

-She was really adorable during I Love Play Rehearsal, she was moving around everywhere and was so sweet.

-The weird noises she’d make?? Amazing.

-During The Play? She talked directly to the audience introducing us to their performance of A Midsummer’s Nightmare and it was so good,,

-During Voices In My Head she was so gentle and sweet and she was just so cute.

Rich-

-During The Squip Song he rolled his hips a lot while talking to Jeremy and like, he peed without holding onto his,, dicc,, and it was so funny

-He hit some NOTES and RIFFS during The Squip Song

-He whipped off his pee pee hands on Jeremy’s face and shirt. Iconic.

-During Halloween he was really twitchy and freaking out and it broke my heart

-In the hospital scene he looked so uncomfortable in the full body cast but like, so happy that his Squip was gone

-His LISP!!!

-When he said “Oh my god I’m totally bi” the audience went NUTS.

Jake-

-He was shorter than Jeremy

-Shorter

-Than

-Jeremy

-He had a fidget spinner

-Instead of extra-curricular he said extra-circular and honestly if that isn’t a Jake mood

-He had a Space Jam shirt

Chloe-

-not a lot to say about her but she did really good!

Brooke-

-Her and Jeremy straight up fucc during Upgrade and that was surprising

-She was really cute and spun around a lot and she was just,, perfect

-Her sexy dog costume was so dumb and I loved it, the ears looked awful it was perfect

-The tiny buns in her hair,,

Jenna-

-She was so cute and always recording things

-During Halloween her mask was making her uncomfortable so Rich or someone helped her take it off and sat her down on the couch and,, bless

-Jenna and Rich danced together!!

-During Smartphone Hour OH MY GOD

-She took her rob off and I died bc her outfit was like a sequent top and a shiny purple/red skirt and she sang it SO WELL I cried

-During Pitiful Children she screamed before HITTING that note SO well

-She changed into a cult outfit and light-up shoes and whenever she sang it had a robotic undertone to it and

-HOOOOOOOOOO

-She stood where the Squip did during The Play

-She did so good and part of me likes her more than Katie but both are amazing

Squip-

-Ok I’m not straight but DAMN he was hot

-Honestly? Best Squip. He sang really deep and it was,, really good

-When he said “sexy anime female” instead of an anime laugh he like, moaned

-He wore leather and gained more leather over time

-Slowly as the show progressed he got more glitchy makeup added and that was a nice touch

-He went to RIFFTOWN and stayed there

-He was touchy with Jeremy especially during Pitiful Children and I kept thinking “squipemy shippers begone” but it was showing like, how much control he had over Jeremy at that point

-His outfit glowed

Mr. Heere-

-Sounded like Paul Whitty’s twin

-He was really good

-He was also the bus driver and forgot to put pants on so the bus driver just- didn’t have pants

-He was really nice and just,, 100/10 best dad

Boyf riends-

-Not a lot of boyf riends which I was honestly happy about?? Michael was still touchy though.

-They left the stage together and I felt blessed

RichJake-

-They were together a lot and had a handshake, good

Richemy-

-Rich and Jeremy had a handshake

-Rich was touchy with Jeremy and I loved it

Stage Dorks-

-Everyone cheered when they kissed and I was SO happy because I was expecting people to get upset and annoying about it

-They were just SO cute together

Pinkberry-

-In Voices In My Head they switched tops, so clearly it was implied they fucc’d

stephanies christine is STILL god tier. i love her!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i like that they included the powerful women roles in theater thing in the play rehearsal track and that she does her dorky growls and quips. 

im glad to know rich is still as iconic as ever. idk if its the mixing/prod for the track but theres something i just cant put my finger on

If you did, what would it take the form of?- yeah i think i would (rip jeremy but im different /j) as for who it would be im not too sure! i wonder if it could take the form of like, an idealized version of myself? i feel like i would listen to that. i dont think i look up to any celebrities enough or anything.

3) Is there a certain headcanon you have for all the characters?
