How weird would it be to be a little NJ theatre company and all of a sudden have FANDOM all over you.
Someone please tape the talkback on Sunday, anyway.

Today’s the day. Remember:
Be respectful to everyone. These people are just as excited as you are.
If you’re so inclined to get a bootleg, be audio or visual, BE DISCRETE. If you’re in the front few rows, just don’t do it. The Signature Theater is rather small compared to most in NYC. It’s easier to get caught.
Tag your spoilers (bmcnyc spoilers, bmcnyc boot, etc.) for those who don’t want to see them. We WILL be getting new content!
Just don’t be a dick. You have common sense and a filter. This isn’t a concert. You, along with the rest of the audience, probably won’t get the chance to see BMC on this scale ever again. Even if this is your first theatre-going experience, you should know when too much is too much. Don’t sing along, don’t cheer at inappropriate times, don’t talk to the actors while they’re onstage, don’t try to break their character. I wish I didn’t have to say this but you never know with this fandom.
Don’t be obnoxious around the actors, new or returning. They’re human and are just doing their job. Don’t follow them around, don’t bombard them with uncomfortable questions (including that of your precious gay ships). They aren’t your props. Let them have the chance to give another great performance to the next audience a great show as well! Again, just don’t be a dick.
Don’t bash the new cast members or understudies at the theater. If you do have a differing opinion, save it for online or when you go back to your hotel/house. Once again, don’t. be. a dick.
Finally, don’t forget to enjoy yourself! A performance like this is so rare and it’s dedicated to the fans! Cheer when appropriate, laugh at the jokes, and take in the environment. You can make the most out of the moment without ruining it for anybody around you.
I’ve been into theatre for years. I hope this won’t be the first audience that I wish I wasn’t a part of. BMC is one of my favorite shows that I’ve learned about from the theatre fandom and it’s my first time going to New York. I know that lots of other BMC fans are going out of their way and flying halfway across the country to see this show, too.
Please be respectful and don’t be that person that results in a theatre etiquette PSA on social media. There have been reports of stalking and harassment from multiple actors on Broadway (Mean Girls, SpongeBob, DEH, etc). There are bootleggers that have been caught and talked about by the cast on Instagram. We can’t forget the audiences at Exit82′s performances of BMC. Chaos.
PLEASE let this be a great run! The returning BMC cast members have said how much the production has grown and evolved since Two River. Appreciate this incredible show for what it is and please don’t ruin the experience for anyone else! But, again, enjoy the show! Please be appropriate, though. Know your limits and know your boundaries. You know how to control yourself. I’m aware this fandom can be wild, but we’re all here to be immersed in the same sci-fi musical. So, please, try to be fine and cool and chill.

OKAY, THIS ISN'T OKAY
All the people making a big deal and freaking about George's statement earlier today about whether or not Michael has a crush on Jeremy, need to calm the fuck down and chill. Like seriously, no comedy involved. (And yes, you bet your sweet ass I am defending George in this. SORRYNOTSORRY. This is hella making me angry.)
This is not to say I don't love Be More Chill to death, cause I do.
RANT STARTING
Sorry to burst some bubbles here, but Be More Chill is NOT about whether or not Michael has a thing for Jeremy or not. Really, that has next to nothing to do with the show or the story being told. The show is about accepting yourself for who you genuinely are, in all your glorious quirkiness and weirdness, and just being a good and decent human being in general. You don't need anyone's approval but your own.
Just because it's George that orginates the role, doesn't mean that's how it HAS to be always.
That's just how George is choosing to portray Michael. And that's George's right as the actor to portray him in whatever way he sees fit during his time being Michael. It's GEORGE'S version of Michael, not yours, and you need to respect that.
George has every right to decide that maybe HIS Michael hasn't discovered if he's gay (or not) and maybe he doesn't have a crush on Jeremy. To HIM it's more important that Michael is there for Jeremy as his best friend and unbiological brother. And that's completely fine. (That's also not his only character trait.) That's a creative choice George made when creating HIS version of this character.
YOU NEED TO RESPECT THAT. PLEASE.
It could be different if it were someone else acting, if they chose it to be, and that's okay.
It's called creative licence.
For a good example, when Exit82 theatre did the New Jersey revival, Ryan chose that yes, Michael is gay, and yes, he has a crush on Jeremy. And he translated both those facts on the stage when performing. Again, that was his right as the actor chosen to portray Michael for that production. It was a creative choice he consciously made when creating his own version of the character.
Or, the version of Michael, say, I would portray, very well could be very drastically different from yours. [ I live in a small town, with very few people intersted in theatre, let alone musicals. If we somehow were to put the show on here, it's quite possible we would have to double roles even more, and have people crossing genders in their dual roles. (This has happened to me before, playing both male and female characters in one show.) If I was cast as Michael, maybe I would want his character to be gay. Or maybe I wouldn't. But that's not his only trait. What kind of friend would I want hime to be? Do I want him to be full on stoner? Etc.] You wouldn't want everyone's version to be exactly the same, or he would become a stale character that no one enjoyed watching or being. (This would be the case for any role ever.)
Joe Tracz has, yes, said (or at least insinuated) that Michael could be gay, and yes he is the writer, but you gotta respects the actor's choices as well. Don't throw away what Joe has said, but don't disrespect the choices made by the actors giving these characters life on the stage.
Look, I'm not a professional in theatre yet, but this seems like one of the basic rules and principals of acting to me. You work on who your character is to YOU. And then you work with your directors and scene partners and mold it into something that you can be proud of.
Those of you marching around proclaiming shit and stirring up drama and stuff like that over this, you need to stop. It's rude and disrespectful. Not only the creators and the actors in the show, (in particular George, and also Will) but it's also really disrespectful to the fellow fans of the musical. It makes the fandom look really immature, niaeve and dumb. And it's flat out distasteful.
Grow up a little. Have some respect.
RANT OVER. G'NIGHT. I'M OUT. ✌

Where are you seeing Be More Chill? I'm sorry for being a bother, but I REALLY want to see that play, but I live in Canada and can't find a good youtube video of it anywhere >_> SORRY
hey!!! ur right, there’s no released video bootleg of bmc :( i know two river professionally recorded the show w/ the original cast but they can’t release it for legal reasons (which just means someone’s gotta take one for the team and pull a national treasure, but that’s another question entirely)
BUT! exit 82 theatre is putting on their own production of it in november!! it’s a theatre company in toms river nj, which is only like 2 hours or so away from where i live. (tho i’ll be at school when i’m seeing it, so it’s gonna be around a 3.5 hour drive).
i got a few of my college friends into bmc and convinced them to come see the show with me, so we’re roadtripping down to see it!! though you should know it’s not a broadway/off broadway/etc type of theatre company and it’s not a revival of the show… exit82′s performance is gonna be its own cast, its own interpretation, and its own production of the show in general.
that being said, tickets are only 20 dollars (!!!) and if you can make it down to toms river PLS GO SUPPORT LOCAL THEATRE!!!
#bmc#im super hype but also have no idea what to expect!!!!#it's gonna be fun regardless lol#i get to see the optic nerve blocking live????#and michael in the bathroom???#and the boyf riends#like !!!!!! im super psyched#Anonymous
