Jay had been planning to stay in, play with Puma, get some homework done because apparently if he didn’t keep his grades up they get to throw him off tourney and yeah. There’s no way that’s happening. It sucks, he much rather forgets about homework altogether, do fun things instead like he.. well, has done sof ar. But hey, he had to give it to them. It’s surely effective. He knew they were all back now, and he was glad -- honestly, he’d missed them. But then Harry implied he wouldn’t keep his promise and he threw his feet over the edge off the bed, pulled his shoes on and left his dorm.  Not that he minds showing Harry how WRONG he was, he’s also somewhere aware he might be baiting him into it right now but -- he didn’t really care. This was much better then the alternative anyway.

He read Harry’s last text, but purposely ignored it because he was at Harry’s place anyway. Used his old tricks to sneak inside, and just casually leans in the doorway the moment he finds Harry. ‘’Think it’s time for me to press your buttons.’’ he waits for the other to look up as brows arch in amusement, didn’t take him too long to decrease the remaining distance between them. Grabbing the pirate by his shirt to tug him against his body and lock his lips before he could even bring a word out ---- he made that promise, didn’t he. TO SHUT HIM UP. That wasn’t just what he was going to be doing here though, and they both knew it. He leans in a little too much into the kiss, about to let passion take over, but he pulls back JUST BEFORE. Releasing his grip on the other’s shirt. Not because he had any doubts whatsoever, the playful and amused smirk said as much. Just, taunting the other a little bit. Harry got a taste now, perhaps Jay should play around with that a little more... he’s not entirely sure how long he’ll keep it up himself but, he can tell by that kiss--- he had the other entirely HOOKED, so to say. Was worth a shot, especially considering the.. obedience conversation earlier. Could try and get some things done here.

Intro to Fairfable

second (prettier) edition :D (i took way too long to finally post this cause i did a lot of overthinking 😭)

You've heard the myths. Most of you just think they're made up.

Humans tend to neglect the wisdom that all legends are based in truth, that some things are beyond science. That maybe fairy tales aren't fantasy.

There is another world that exists alongside your own. Its name matters little. Its people are familiar. All that is required of you is to look into Those Places—you know the ones I mean—and let them take you there. However, since the Other Folk are not particularly fond of intruders, let this story suffice as your window into their lives. Things are changing in their world. In a realm of myth and magic, what better place to begin than the most ordinary?

If you've made it this far, I'm gonna hope you're at least a little interested. And prepared for a long ass yap. If things go the way I want them to and we get Fairfable off the ground, it will grow into a full-fledged indie animated series. Unfortunately, I can't animate, and even if I were to start learning several years ago, I can't animate a whole multi-season show by myself. The closest thing I have to a production team is my self-recruited friend to help write some episodes and my cousin who knows that at some point within the next couple years he's gonna get a text saying he's gonna help me make music for Not Hazbin Hotel. I would start getting more people together to work on it, but I just graduated high school and am using pretty much every cent I have access to to pay for college. Not optimal conditions for creating an entirely new show from scratch. But it has pages and pages worth of ideas in Google Docs, so we're getting somewhere, at least (I say, knowing full well that I spend most of my "writing" time watching youtube video essays and blasting music into my ears.)

I have a lot of goals for this. It's pretty character-driven, but it does have a bigger overarching plot tied to deeper lore (duh, I have a ton of mythology and magic stuff to work with.) This show is supposed to be fun but serious when it needs to be. It's also proudly queer (take one look at its creator 💀) and full of neurodivergent representation. Also, I want it to be a musical because I'm a music-loving theater kid. Fight me. (Actually don't I have the strength of an angry toothpick)

There's comedy. There's symbolism. Ironically, there's humanity, but art is supposed to reflect the world it's created in. There's love in every bit of this project, and if that ever fails to show through, I've failed as a writer. The cast is diverse in its stories and in its characters' flaws, and I'm doing my best to make them feel like real people in spite of the fact that they're fantasy creatures. Let it be known that I am a sucker for found family and any story about characters helping each other heal wounds from their past and grow into better people. I LOVE me some good wholesome healing. That's what this is. It gets serious because some characters deal with real serious trauma, and I do not plan on making light of people's trauma. But they find time to laugh, y'know?

There are still a lot of things I need to figure out. Any part of the story or the characters or anything could change at any time. I'm also always learning, whether it be through experience (after all, as of this summer I'll only have 18 years of it) or research. But, as I do with anything I write, I love to have fun with it. Jokes and shitposts always have a home on this blog and in my heart (as long as they're not offensive or maliciously ignorant, of course.) Anyway, I think I'm getting dangerously close to reaching a point where I don't make sense anymore, so let's move on.

Characters

the main focus of this project. for the people who have seen a million of these intros already im sorry lmao its for the new people. also i will add pictures when i get the motivation and im happy with the results (i do have some half-finished thumbnails so yippee!! let's see if i get any further with that!)

Nema (she/her)

Nema's always been different.

Over the years, her "gift" has earned her a reputation. Not that she ever went around telling everyone about it, but, when you occasionally mutter vague prophecies and randomly zone out in the middle of sentences, it's kind of hard to hide. No one has a clue why she's plagued by these visions. All she knows is that too many of them have come true, and people always focus on that instead of just plain old Nema.

But then again, sometimes she gets a feeling. Just like she did the day she popped her head out of the water and really took a look at the old abandoned treehouse. Just like she did the day she met Lynx, Sal, Zing, and Shailyn. And, for once, it didn't feel ominous and foreboding. She doesn't know where fate will take her. But maybe, for once, it's going somewhere good.

Lynx (she/her)

A cat with a mission and a patience that wears thinner by the day.

It's been months since Lynx began her search for somewhere to move out. Sure, of course she loves her family, but love doesn't give you Lynx's parents' seemingly magical tolerance for screaming children scurrying around an absolutely cramped den. She's glad she had the experience of living there, but it's high time for a less overstimulating change of pace.

The only problem is that the places with neon mold creatures stuck in the drywall and mandrake infestations are the only ones Lynx can afford on her own, and she'd feel bad asking her parents for money. She's gonna need a roommate or two to share the financial burden. Or three. Or four, if you want to count the fairy. But for the four of them who do know how money works, this tree seems weirdly perfect (aside from the overgrown-ness.) Only one question is on Lynx's mind: is this too good to be true, or has the bull finally stopped shitting?

Zing (pronouns? yeah those are cool)

Zing, shapeshifter, at your service.

Zing has always prided themself on their ability to make friends. It's easy when you're a walking party trick with the charm and impeccable sense of style to match. But even a free spirit has to settle down sometime. This ragtag band of individuals too broke to afford housing on their own seems like the perfect opportunity to set up a home base. And, of course, the individuals themselves are intriguing, to say the least.

Nema's quiet. Shy. But nice once you get her talking. Makes you wonder what she's hiding. Shailyn's friendly. She just seems curious. You have to be careful with your words around her, but that's nothing Zing isn't already on top of. Lynx and Sal will be tougher to crack—Sal especially. But nothing like a challenge! At least that's what Zing is telling themself.

Shailyn (she/her)

New people. Interesting.

The tree hasn't been inhabited for years—a long time when it comes to the shorter-lived creatures of this world. So one can imagine the fairy's surprise when she popped in one day to check on her plants, only to discover people there.

Typically, the fairy likes to keep to herself. She likes this tree—the old, abandoned, living building fascinates her, and she finds it a delightful place to spend her time. But she did always suppose it was only a matter of time before others came. They're curious little beings. And, while they're here, this seems to be as good a time as any to socialize.

Sal (he/him)

Finally.

For what seems like far too long, Sal has been looking for somewhere to go. He doesn't care where, how, or who with, as long as he doesn't have to deal with his mother constantly breathing down his neck anymore. All he wants is real independence, and now he finally has a chance to have it.

Of course, he'd rather not have to live with fairy tricks in his own home. She seems odd, even for a fairy. But, it's still a house, and at least the other people don't seem too bad. Lynx and Nema are cool. Zing seems like a bit of a wild card, but whatever. Things are different now. Sal can deal with it. Whatever may happen.

Jay was TRYING to deal with everything he was feeling, but everything went far too fast. He’s glad that it works for everyone else, but it didn’t for him. He was still hurting, as much as he tried to pretend otherwise. In sake of friendship, family. Because he knows they were all trying, too. And he didn’t want to lose them, ‘course he didn’t. But he was so done feeling like crap. Being overwhelmed in emotions he had no idea how to deal with. He’d wanted to leave before, he didn’t then. Because he knew Mal needed him. Because she was hurting just as he was, but she seems fine now. She’s doing a lot better, this thing– it works for her, and he’s happy for her for it. But that also meant he didn’t have to stay, he could just leave, see places and put things in order again.

And that’s what Jay did. He took a gap year ( it had been discussed with teachers before, so it wasn’t a big deal to them ) and he informed Lonnie for Swords & Shields. He told Coach he’d be back before Tourney practice starts, because he didn’t plan to actually take the entire year for this.. just, as long as it takes to set his head straight. To move past what happened, to forgive && be able to look at them without hurting. And space is what he thought would do that for him right now. Saying goodbye would only mess him up, so he didn’t. He wasn’t planning to let anyone know, but he realized if he was just gone Carlos would worry. They share a dorm after all. But yeah, so.. he texted Carlos. He had his new bike with him and a bag. He had a map of the lands, Belle gave it to him. That way he can decide what he wants to see, in what order, and see in which direction he had to go.  He already knew he wanted to go to Sherwood Forest, the mountains will have to be another time – he promised that to Gil.

Jay hadn’t been on his phone much, he didn’t want to feel the GUILT of leaving them.But he does worry, and he checks his phone every night when he sits by the fire. He never answers though.  He loves it out here. It calms him more then anything else. He knew everyone would be upset, hell.. Carlos was upset. And angering him was a task upon itself ( he had tried many times, succeeded in far less then he likes to admit ). As much as he likes to pretend that the others wouldn’t miss him, or notice he was gone. He knew, deep down, that was crap. He just didn’t want to focus on that. He couldn’t right now.

So it had been three weeks until he returned to Auradon. Three weeks of having barely responded to any texts other then to Carlos every once in a while. He had met Lea and Ian and— well, that was a weird story upon itself. Because the last thing he intended was to go looking for something LIKE THAT, it’s what he left behind after all. What he couldn’t deal with. The difference here is that they didn’t hurt him, they didn’t break his trust, this was fresh and.. really amazing. They’d been a couple for several years is what they told him, never before thought of something like this either. So, the three of them were pretty much figuring out how it works for them. It happens then when he’s flirting with one of them, the other pokes him && claims his attention just the same, it’s fun, it’s cheesy too though (can’t seem to escape that, apparently) and well.. but initially, it helped him heal. It helped him let go of the past, of the hurt, of trying to move past that. And honestly? he hadn’t smiled as much as he had since meeting them. So he told them about his family, about.. why he left too, not in too much detail though. Ian was his literal opposite, he seems rather at ease talking about feelings ( sometimes even better then Lea ). Lea was a lot like him, they tend to do challenges and tire Ian a lot. He won of course—- ahem.  But anyway, he told them about the school— nah, just tourney and swords & shields. But it sums school up for him so. They agreed to come && watch him play, support him, and he wouldn’t want it any other way. He wasn’t sure how to feel about having them meet the others, or how it’d be to see them again…. he knew they might still be upset for how he left, he’ll have to work on that. But, it helped him.. So he doesn’t regret it. And if he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have met them.

Jay knew the girls would be mad, and Carlos... well, he’d expressed exactly how upset he was in text.. so yeah, Jay was prepared for whatever that was gonna be like. He underestimated Harry the most, perhaps, because they were fine before he left. And he didn’t think that would change now. There was no reason for that to have changed ( in his mind, at least ). So after dropping off his stuff, he wasn’t looking for any of them specifically. He would be fine finding them all together at this point, that way it was all done and over with quickly. And he’s had weeks to prepare himself, of how close they all probably had gotten. And Jay, well, he was fine with that. It took him a bit, but, Ian and Lea helped him to let it go. To accept it. To move past what happened. ‘’Harry-!’’ seeing the other’s back ( yep, as sad as it were.. recognizes him anywhere), he was beside the other in seconds. '’Hey, man. How’s things?’’

if you don't know what fairfable is or who any of the characters are, allow me to explain. if you do know what it is, allow me to yap anyway

Fairfable is an idea i have for an indie animated series about five very different fantasy characters with very different backgrounds coming together in solidarity to live in an old tree. but there's more to it than meets the eye, and fate may have a bigger part to play in their story than any of them would have thought.

Nema's been having visions for as long as she can remember, and she doesn't have a clue why. one thing is certain, though: no matter what benefits her "gift" may have the potential to bring, it's only ever brought her pain and rejection in the long run. All she's ever wanted is to be normal. But, as much as she doesn't want to, perhaps embracing the path the visions lead her on could be the key to unlocking their secrets—and their end.

also fun fact about her design i just decided to add the scallop necklace today (well actually it's a locket with a picture of her and her parents inside.) i decided on a scallop because there are scallops in the mediterranean sea, which is where i'm taking inspiration from for her. i also have learned that scallops symbolize a pilgrims' journey and the connection between pilgrims. i thought that was pretty fitting with the general theme of the show

couldnt sleep so i put my drawings into procreate and added some color. it isnt great but it gives u an idea of what im going for. clothes and zing's hair will vary of course, and shailyn's design is still in the works
