I left the theater after seeing Twisters with the same stupid grin on my face that i had when i saw The Fall Guy and i realized that those movies have a good amount in common and we need more silly yet surprisingly heartfelt summer blockbusters like this with these things in them:

Main character who hasn’t gotten over The Accident

Attractive people

Attractive people falling in love

A silly guy

Great soundtrack

Based on some old movie/show of the same name but loosely enough that it doesn’t really feel like a sequel

Fall Guy is a really good lesson in writing stakes. With a lot of action movies it’s hard for the audience to feel like the main characters are in any real danger. Bond can’t die, they’re making another movie. Bourne is the best spy there is, he’ll be fine. But with Fall Guy the opening scene establishes Colt as a vulnerable human who can and does get hurt. And they reinforce that through his speeches and in his body language. He’s exhausted. He’s sore. He hurts. And we as an audience already saw him get horrifically injured in the first scene- so of course it could happen again. I genuinely worried for Colt throughout most of the fight scenes. I just think it’s a great reminder to writers that your MCs plot armor shouldn’t be so thick that the stakes become boring.

i just watched fall guy 2024 and im going to watch it again asap im texting my brother to get home as soon as possible so that i have an excuse to rewatch it this is like 17 again 3 days in a row but worse because i want to watch it 8 times back to back to back to back AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Btw! Jodie's headphones are Jlab Rewind, I've had them for years, and they're my favorite! Pretty good audio for the price, as well as comfy and light (which is what I was looking for at the time). I've had them since 2021, and I just recently had to use the backup pair of black sponge ear cushions cause I wore out the orange ones XD

Tom Ryder crying about his nose after Colt spent the entire movie shaking off every hit, every fall, every burn, cut, stab, punch, and scrape, reminds me very much of Captain Hammer Corporate Tool crying to his therapist about getting a splinter.

This was supposed to be a short post but the more I think about it, the more parallels I see.

So... spoilers under the cut.

Colt's job always made Ryder look good.

Dr. Horrible's job gave Captain Hammer a bad guy to protect the city from, which in turn made HIM look good.

Colt spent the entire movie taking hits and pretending to be okay for a girl he loved.

Dr. Horrible did, too.

Ryder accidentally killed his stunt double, who he pretended to be friends with the same way he pretended to be friends with everyone in his life.

Captain Hammer accidentally killed his girlfriend, who he pretended to care about the same way he pretended to care about everyone in HIS life.

Ryder spent the entire movie, with the help of the producer, finding a way to frame Colt for the manslaughter- Colt, who had been taking the punches and dealing with Ryder's bullshit for years already.

Captain Hammer didn't even have to frame Dr. Horrible for Penny's death- the public saw what they wanted to see. Dr. Horrible, who had been taking Captain Hammer's hits and dealing with his bullshit for years already.

But afterwards, Ryder and Hammer aren't upset about the loss of their friend or lover. They don't even feel guilty for the part they played in their deaths. They're upset about their reputation and their own well being, when the people in their lives had been taking worse hits all this time.

They think they are invincible because they've never been hurt before. They are full of shit.
