With permission from METEOR, I can now reveal my entry for the 2019 Famicase Exhibition: Emergency Princess! It's half-visual novel, half-tactical RPG, and 100% fun!

Here's a blurb: "助けてマイプリンセス!! Play as Grand Princess Ragnild Aeterus, the final hope for the Ten Kingdom Coalition! Make alliances with nine fellow princesses and defend the realm from the cosmic doom dragon Innesus Stareater using the power of Princesses! 1 Player."

It's simple, but I wanted to play off of soem of the more minimalist game catridges from my childhood. I'm also really glad I got to create an African-American Princess, and really glad I got to enter famicase!

I'm really proud of myself for this, and can't wait to see where my art goes next year!

Walking Smartphone Cat Is My Famicase Game Of The Year 2019

Once again, fictional Famicom carts are hanging on the walls of a gallery space/style shop in Tokyo. And now that the dust has settled from the opening, Meteor has finally shared with the rest of the world the 2019 edition of the My Famicase Exhibition.

As noted last time, I’m the hard to impress type; there’s been 14 previous installments, so the sensation of “been there, seen that” is a bit unavoidable. Yet, as is always the case, there were a few entries that I kinda/sorta really dig... 25 in all for this year.

Like “Walking Smartphone Cat” or at least that’s what I think it’s called. The fake game cart itself is mostly okay, though it’s the fake game description that I’m sold on; via Google Translate…

“A cat who is addicted to the screen of the smartphone and is facing downwards walks down the streets in a fluttering way! Send hint images and characters to your smartphone screen and let them reach the goal safely!”

Here, btw, are the rest of the best of the bunch…

... BTW, I’m particularly fond of Yoghurt Lady cuz it reminds of the ladies that used to deliver little bottles of Yakult to my front door when I myself was little, back when I lived in South Korea.

Anyhow, the final fave Famicase...

You see, before Chris Burke became one of the god fathers of the NYC chipscene, he was making music for various B movies. Including Splatter U, obviously, which was recently restored & released on Blu-ray by Vinegar Syndrome. Highly recommend btw.

Though if you’re local… save the date: May 24th. Cuz that’s when Splatter University will be shown at Spectacle Theater, described by Google Maps this time as a “snug screening room for offbeat films.” Though the key detail is how Chris will be performing his remastered soundtrack live! Plus special guests? Oh, and I’ll be hosting once again… 

… And sorry for the non-video game related aside, but hey, as promoter, I gotta use whatever platform I have access to get an ass in every seat.

Star Cats IV - HD  is my entry for MY FAMICASE EXHIBITION 2019. It’s also the remake of the first game I designed for Famicase, in 2010. 

My Famicase is an exhibition about fictional Famicom videogames organized by Meteor Shop in Tokyo.

I am very happy to announce that I will be participating in the My Famicase/わたしのファミカセ展  exhibition this year!

It's my first -but definitely not last- time to participate and I can't express how happy I am and I’m really excited: it took me a lot of courage to do this. I’m still very new to art, and while zines aren’t where I’m angling towards, I do like to share my art. I’m really glad to be amongst hundreds of really awesome participants! It still makes me get a bit teary to think about people seeing my art: it’s really wondeful!

Honestly, It still makes me get a bit teary to think about people seeing my art: it’s really wondeful, and really amazing. A year ago -well, 11 months ago- I started to really teach myself digital art in earnest. Now, look at how far I've come!

If you’ll be anywhere near Tokyo, I’d highly recommend popping in, especially because the exhibition is free, and is easy to access from Shinjuku Station. I, myself, will be going to the exhibition on May 2 during Golden Week! Maybe we’ll see ach other there!
