The Height Of Power — Tywin Lannister x OC

Summary: Linara approaches Tywin on a matter of importance. Having learned much from him, she decides to test her mettle and she will not allow herself to be so easily intimidated by something as simple as height.

The narrow halls of the Red Keep swallowed the faint light of the late afternoon, casting long, looming shadows along the stone walls. Linara Sand moved through them with purpose, her shoes barely making a sound against the cold floor. When she reached Tywin Lannister’s chambers, she didn’t hesitate, rapping firmly on the heavy wooden door.

“Enter,” came Tywin’s voice, almost as if he’d been expecting her.

Pushing open the door, Linara stepped inside. The room was suffused with the scent of old books and parchment, and a fire crackled in the hearth, offering a faint warmth against the evening chill. Tywin sat at his desk, his sharp eyes already on her. His presence was as formidable as ever, a reminder of the power he wielded not just within these walls, but across the entire realm.

“Lord Lannister,” Linara greeted, with a bow of her head and a slight curtsy. She reminded herself to keep her voice steady and her posture strong. She had learned long ago that any sign of weakness would be seized upon and used against her. Especially here.

Tywin didn’t immediately respond, instead letting the silence stretch out, a tactic she was all too familiar with. It was a way to unsettle, to remind those in his presence that they were on his time, in his domain. Linara refused to fidget, meeting his gaze with unwavering determination.

“You’ve become quite the frequent visitor,” Tywin finally said, his tone neutral. “To what do I owe this pleasure?”

Linara’s jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. “I came to discuss the allocation of men to the Dornish border. The Martells have been testing our defenses, and we need to be prepared. A show of numbers may be just what is needed to thwart any foolish attempts against the crown.”

Tywin raised an eyebrow, his expression inscrutable. “And you believe it’s your place to advise me on these matters?”

“I believe it’s my place to ensure our defenses are secure,” Linara replied evenly, though she could feel the weight of his scrutiny bearing down on her. "And who better than I to inform and advise on the Dornish people, seeing as that is my homeland?"

Tywin stood, the motion smooth and deliberate. He moved around the desk, coming to stand before her. Linara had to tilt her head back slightly to meet his gaze, an angle that subtly irked her. Tywin seemed to notice, and a flicker of amusement danced in his eyes.

“Stop using your height against me,” she said, her tone clipped, though she refused to let her irritation show beyond her words.

Tywin’s lips curved into a faint smile, one that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Height is merely one of the many tools at my disposal, Linara. As I’m sure you’re aware, a man —or woman— must use every advantage they possess.”

Linara’s eyes narrowed. “I’ve never needed to rely on something as trivial as height to prove my worth.”

“No,” Tywin conceded, his voice dropping to a lower, more calculating tone. “You’ve relied on your skill, your cunning, and your willingness to step into the fray when others would falter. Admirable traits, but they must be wielded with care, or they risk being wasted on pursuits that are...beneath you.”

Linara stiffened at the insinuation. Was he questioning her judgment? Or was he trying to steer her toward some path of his own design? She wasn’t sure which prospect she liked less.

“I have no intention of wasting anything, Lord Lannister,” she said, her voice firm. “Least of all my talents.”

Tywin’s smile grew, and while still lacking much warmth, it did convey his pride in her. She’d learned much from him since she’d come to King's Landing. It was a smile that spoke of understanding, but also as if he were evaluating how best to position her on his ever shifting board.

“Then we are in agreement,” he said, stepping even closer, his presence almost suffocating. “But remember, Linara, respect is not given. It is taken, often from those who are unaware it is being seized until it is too late. You’ve earned your place here, but even the smallest misstep can tip the scales and you could be back on the streets selling wine from your cart.”

Linara held her ground, refusing to be cowed. “I’m well aware of the stakes, Lord Lannister. And I accept the consequences that come with my advisement, but I also do not think I am wrong.”

Tywin regarded her for a long moment, his gaze piercing, as if he were weighing her very soul. Then, with a slight nod, he stepped back, allowing her a fraction more space to breathe.

“Very well,” he said. “I will ensure that the men on the Dornish border are reinforced. I trust your judgment in this matter, Miss Sand.”

She nodded curtly, knowing that his approval, as always, was conditional and earned through deeds, not words alone. Without one final nod of thanks, she turned and left the chamber, her steps measured, her thoughts focused, making sure that even as she left, he did not doubt his trust in her. It was valuable to have him on her side for any matter of importance. And as she walked away from Tywin’s chambers, she knew one thing for certain, she would not let herself be outmaneuvered by anyone, no matter how tall they stood.

Code Realize for the fandom talk thing?

SEND ME A FRANCHISE OR SERIES AND I WILL TALK ABOUT IT - Accepting!

The way I feel about Code: Realize is the way I feel like a lot of people who like romantic fantasy/romantasy genre view Sarah J. Maas stories (Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Crescent City): a lot of time spent on worldbuilding and developing the characters, little in the way of actual romance (and smut, in the books' cases), but Strong Badass Heroines.

To that end: both Code: Realize and SJM's works are kind of...outliers in the genre of otome and romantasy, respectively? I feel where otome is concerned, many fans look for quicker (not instant, but quicker!) romance with all of the LIs than what Code: Realize offers and in turn, get frustrated with the game.

This, IMO, is a mistake: because Code: Realize may not be the best example of an otome game, but it is an excellent story!

Code: Realize, usually, is the otome game I suggest for people to try who don't like romance games. They don't like romance novels or romantic dramas and think lovey-dovey fictional romance where a heroine has the chance to romance a harem of men played out on the page and screen is stupid and boring and they will definitely not like it.

Spoiler: If they play Code: Realize, they usually end up liking it.

So, all of that is to say: this franchise gets such a bad rap in the otome fandom because otome players are playing it expecting certain tropes to be met without evaluating it on the story and character development as a whole.

Yes, it sets up a lot of backstory and worldbuilding. And yes, not every route will be everyone's favorite, but I think it's a disservice to dismiss this game whether you're a big fan of otome or you think the genre isn't for you.

Now that said, my personal takes:

Cardia is one of the best/favorite heroines I've ever had the pleasure to meet in otome games. To be fair, I've backed off playing these for a bit in favor of romantic fantasy and contemporary romantic fiction: a lot of the common themes or tropes that grate on me about otome (wilting flowers/helpless heroines, controlling LIs bordering on sexual assault, everything about Yang from Piofiore and Toma from Amnesia) can be avoided much more easily in novels if you read the trope/trigger warnings. But Cardia doesn't have the wilting flower problem: yes, she has poison in her skin as a weapon but she's also just really cool? While other players rolled their eyes at the extensive training scenes in the main story, I really liked that she learned from all of the love interests before choosing a route. She gained useful skills! This also reminds me of Feyre training with members of the Night Court in ACOTAR.

I fully embrace Steampunk Code: Realize London is not adhering to any historical accuracy, and yet I'm still digging it. I'm also weak for classic literature references (Sonia and I share this trait, to no one's surprise), so it's fun pointing out "OH IT'S A NOD TO THIS!" during the games.

I'm not a fan of fandisc sequels for otome games as the side stories are usually paper thin and pretty dull in comparison to the main one (though I may bite the bullet and buy the CupiPara FD that just came out), but Code: Realize did this mostly pretty well. I like the first fandisc/second game better than the second fandisc/third game as far as extra story content goes. I am also biased because we finally got the Van Helsing kiss CG in the second game (the only kiss CG left out of the original game? Really, developers? Why must you do my fictional BF so dirty like this?).

My aversion to Impey Barbicane is entirely because he is the unholy combination of Kazuichi Soda from Danganronpa and Duo Maxwell from Gundam Wing, two characters who are just Not Sexy to me. Sonia's aversion to Impey in a modern Code: Realize verse is entirely due to the fact that he reminds her of Kazuichi.

My least favorite route in the original game was St. Germain's. I don't like him, he gives me the ick. My favorite routes besides the final one are Abraham van Helsing and Victor Frankenstein. Van Helsing for the backstory, Victor for his character development. Victor is also so underrated. If I had to choose any of them for a husband, I'm picking Victor Frankenstein any day of the week.

But because this is a roleplay blog...

I ship Sonia with Van Helsing, Lupin, and Victor, in that order. Only one of these is actually in development, with @scarlxtleaves' Arsene Lupin in a modern Code: Realize verse. He's saved her life and she still thinks he's sus due to the over-the-top flirtation (and yes, she has taken into consideration that he is French and therefore it is in his nature to do so). Her struggle, besides staying alive and safe from terrorists who wish to kill her, is figuring out that Lupin's affection towards her is genuine interest and care with real feelings behind it and not just flirting with her for fun and/or friends with benefits.

I believe in her, even though she's not exactly the brightest bulb when figuring out that someone really is in love with her.

Finally: the Code: Realize anime, just like the Umineko anime, is complete garbage and you should forget it even exists. Just play the games instead.

oh i am so about to become an unskippable cutscene. ok so

my zeldaverse concept is that they all get stuck in the time AFTER the golden goddesses made hyrule but BEFORE hylias creation. each zelda has a varying amount of time since their adventure ended (i.e. totk zelda has been back home for a little less than a month. st zelda is in the MIDDLE of her adventure. sheik only sent link back to her time a week ago. its been 9 months since midna left tp zelda. zelda i zel's adventure ended 5 years ago and her great aunt from zelda ii ended one year ago. etc etc). the idea is that they all wanna get home, so they decide to try and use the triforce, but none of them know which one would be Worthy of it (as in having power wisdom courage). they go to termina [sksw zeldas idea. shes reaaaally trying not to let on shes hylia but still wants to be helpful] bc the fierce deity is their best shot at knowing which one can do it. FD (who appears as their links to each one of them respectively as to "present as something theyre more familiar with." ie botw zelda sees botw link, tp zel sees tp link, etc etc. they end up changing into malon for sheik bc hes still got baggage over link and impa and anyone else so FD chooses someone he barely knows instead.)

anyways FD tells them that all of them are capable of it if they focus in but their best bets are sheik, botw zelda, tetra, and hilda + albw zelda if they do it together (one from each branch of the timeline. kind of). so the gang splits off to find the triforce and erm yeah 🕺💃

also theres two oot zeldas. one for the adult timeline (sheik) and one for the child timeline, who never knew the horrors of war and got to know oot link unlike sheik. oops.

anyways herez my names wooooo (also they all chose them themselves hehe)

BOTW/TOTK - Coreulea (part of the scientific name of wild blueheart tulips which are the closest visually to silent princesses irl, so. shes named after her fav flower...)

OOT (ADULT) - Sheik (later Sage. this zelda awoke as the leader of the sages while the other oot zelda did not have to.)

OOT (CHILD) - Coda (the part of a song where you go back and repeat a portion you've already played before. get it. Coda says she wants something music related and Sheik is the one to suggest the name to her.)

MINISH CAP - Stonie/Quartzie (what her link calls her! used to think it was mean but shes rlly missing him so ..)

TP - Archer (bow of light. prefers to be called 'the archer' specifically if possible, lol)

ALBW - Hilda and Hue (like color. like painting. Hue liked the alliteration of their names hehe)

ALTTP - Maiden (describes herself as a maiden in game. theres more to it but ohhgh thatd require a lot of analysis and this is already so looong)

ZELDA I - Ura (in the og game u had another mode called ura zeruda after u beat the game which literally translated to "other zelda." its a little joke abt how many zeldas there are! she chose it bc its her real first name; zeldas only her middle name!)

ZELDA II - Somnia (from "insomnia." also the name her family uses to differentiate her from her great great niece. she thinks its pretty, if a little on the nose, but she cant blame her relatives for being that uncreative when shes been dead for 100 years, took the money they gave her to not claim the throne, and ran off with her boytoy lmaooo)

WW/PH - Tetra. she wanted a silly nickname too though so they will also respond to Captain

SPIRIT TRACKS - Spectra (like spectral! shes still a ghost here and has a good sense of humor abt it!)

SKSW - Lyre (another name for harp and sounds like "liar" because shes got a bit of a track record for not being entirely truthful about who she is ,,,,)

YOOOOOOOOO your zeldaverse concept sounds so cool!! I've never even thought of the idea of time travelling to after the golden goddesses created everything but before Hylia's creation! :O that's such an interesting time period, I've never really thought about all that.....

Also them going to the fierce deity is so cool cause I have so many questions!! How does sksw Zelda know of the fierce deity? Does she have memories of him during her time as Hylia? Does fierce deity recognize her? If he does, does he willingly keep her secret from the rest of the Zelda's as he's correctly guessed that she's hiding it? How does the fierce deity correcting know of just who would be the most familiar to present as and does he know of all the Link's?

There's just so many questions and it's so funnnnnn to think about!! Also I like how he says that all of them are capable but Sheik, botw Zelda, Tetra, and Hilda are the most capable of wielding the full triforce... while sksw Zelda is right there... HMMMMMMMM........ sksw Zelda I have questions for you but I fear if I speak any of them out loud you'll combust <3333 love her though <333

The choices for all the Zelda's is so fun and cool to! I've never really thought about including both oot child and adult! I can most definitely see that being a major source of pain and angst for Sheik and I'm just super curious about Coda would react to that :o also I'm just a fan of such Zelda incarnations such as MARIO KART and SUPER SMASH BROS being involved in the middle of this.

Welcome to Part 2, of the Let's Try To Finish Demos! | FD mini-series, where I try to finish as many of the demos played during Let's Play Some Demos! | LPSD videos as I can (so I can finally uninstall them and make some space) in 4 hours-ish!

For those who are new, I aim to provide commentary and feedback on game demos for educational purposes! In addition, with how saturated Steam is, let's get these indie games some attention, shall we (and the occasional AAA game I think isn't getting enough attention)?

RULES! I try to finish as many demos as I can in 4 hours-ish!

There's lots to do in Elderfield!

Plot Summary: When Daenerys leaves Daario in charge of Meereen, the transition is not smooth and the people seek one of their own to rule them. Listening to the peoples' plight, Daario chooses a queen, the daughter of a silk merchant who is widely loved by her city's people. Theodosia had no intentions of being queen, and certainly none of being wed to Daario, but her father pushes her to accept. She does, but on one condition; she wishes to choose her own husband to become king consort. Daario will stay on only as her advisor. Her terms accepted, everyone is shocked when she requests Davos Seaworth as her intended.

hello! what can you tell me abt your got fic?

hiiii so it’s a rhaenys martell-targaryen survives au . the main povs of the story are her, aegon and daenerys and it’s mostly about rewriting most of the show and them finding each other and retaking their home.

the story starts off with us learning more about elia martell and her marriage to rhaegar and just trying to give her character more depth than the show or books did. it then focuses on the present day game of thrones that everyone knows, but with the difference being that elia’s children survived. at the moment, it’s on hold simply because i gave myself too much pressure to write it perfectly so i could please everyone in the fandom (impossible i know) particularly the ones that have been waiting for me to post it for years 🥲

but i’m happy i waited to post it, if only because i think i’ve matured a little and so has my writing

sarella baratheon + the northern campaign

“Lady Sarella has been a friend to House Stark since before you were even a thought in my mind,” Catelyn hissed.

“The Kingslayer’s wife is not a friend to House Stark,” Robb spat. “I don’t care how kind she was at Winterfell or how true in all the years before. She married a Lannister!”

“Robb,” Catelyn bit out, drawing up short in frustration. “Sarella had as much say in that marriage as your father had in betrothing Sansa to the prince. Nothing is so simple in King’s Landing.”

The young king’s mother exhaled, cutting a wary look around the camp, before stepping forward and speaking again in a much lower voice.

“The Lady Brienne had to save her, Robb... from the Lannister men who were escorting her. One of them carried a note instructing him to make it look like we were responsible for her death. Sarella is no friend to the Lannisters.”

Welcome to Part 1, the Pilot, of the Let's Try To Finish Demos! | FD mini-series, where I try to finish as many of the demos played during Let's Play Some Demos! | LPSD videos as I can (so I can finally uninstall them and make some space) in 4 hours-ish!

For those who are new, I aim to provide commentary and feedback on game demos for educational purposes! In addition, with how saturated Steam is, let's get these indie games some attention, shall we (and the occasional AAA game I think isn't getting enough attention)?

RULES! I try to finish as many demos as I can in 4 hours-ish!

MARELLA GREYJOY ★‧₊˚ ━━━ THE FROZEN KRAKEN

The failed Greyjoy Rebellion resulted in the deaths of her eldest brothers and her imprisonment with the Starks. Though she was with her younger brother, Theon, she still longed for the roaring ocean.

She was far from nobility to the Northerners and she relished in it. The freedom to act like the men in a patriarchal society granted her some sort of freedom that she would not normally be granted if she had gone the maiden route. But when the bannermen gather to fight for Robb Stark, that respect seems to dissipate.

As much as MARELLA wants to run off during the chaotic midst of war, she can't help but fight for the very house that watched over her. She also seems to fall for her brother's best friend...
