I really can’t understand playing 3h and thinking it’s not political. Or even just understanding that it’s political and ignoring the problematic aspects of these people. Not that fe did a good job at its political messaging but i do think if you try to ignore the politically charged aspects of these people you are ignoring like 90% of what makes up their character.

And I don’t know I just think it’s kinda sad.

I really like that Ferdinand’s whole character premise is that kind a kind hearted conservative person will eventually run into a wall where their nature conflicts with their politics. He does a lot of nonsensical mental gymnastics in order to justify his behavior and I think it’s an incredibly well written criticism of him.

I think Ingrid oriented every political belief she has around a grief induced sunk cost fallacy is interesting. She *has* to romanticize Knighthood and Dimitri or she has to confront the reality that Glenn died tragically. She’s also someone who is an oppressed person within Faerghus culture and who can identify that her life is made worse for being a woman. And although she wants to break free of that she can’t envision anything that isn’t just subjugating herself to a different set of rules. Ingrid strives to be disposable in a male gender role rather than a woman’s. She reveres knighthood and the code of honor in death—which is often propped up as an ideal for non royal men. And that not even beginning to touch the most obvious conservative trait she has with her xenophobia and racism. Even after she comes to terms with being wrong, she talks to Dedue and basically asks him why he didn’t go out his way to educated her out of her bigotry. I’m gonna assume we can all understand why that wouldn’t be his job.

I could go in like this for basically every character minus a few. It certainly pertains to every single person in the blue lions and the church.

But all that to say is that without the politics of these characters you honestly don’t have a lot of interesting things left. And I just don’t get the appeal of trying to erase away these aspects.

felix being referred to more or less exclusively as "your soldier" in-game speaks to how little the writers put into his character beyond his noggin full of sith secrets & his relationship with the consular; still, i do find it kind of sweet and funny, in a way. he's not a republic soldier, not even your personal bodyguard; he's your soldier. the consular is a small nation-state in and of herself
