FFXIV Write 2024
I guess I'm going to make this my master post for this 30 day challenge. I don't know how this is going to go. Never done anything like this before. I can't imagine I'm going to make it through all the prompts but part of why I wanted to do this was just to do it.
The whole point is to make not to make perfection. And I think it would do me some good to do that. And to write something other than WoLmeric. I mean, I'm still gonna do that. And maybe if any of these have legs, I'll try to flesh them out into a full story.
Definitely Endwalker spoilers. Probably Dawntrail too but I'll try to keep them very vague if they're there.
Primary WoLmeric pieces are 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 15, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29 and 30 if you're unwell like me. 23 and 29 are also light NSFW. There are somewhat significant DT spoilers in 16, 19, 21, 22 and 30. You've been warned.
Steer ~ Horizon ~ Tempest ~ Reticent ~ Stamp ~ Halcyon ~ Morsel ~ Extra - Stealth ~ Lend an ear ~ Stable ~ Surrogate ~ Quarry ~ Butte ~ Telling ~ Extra - Tundra ~ Third-rate ~ Sally ~ Hackneyed ~ Taken ~ Duel ~ Shade ~ Extra - Calibrate ~ On Cloud Nine (Explicit) ~ Bar ~ Perpetuity ~ Zip ~ Memory ~ Deleterious ~ Extra - Afterglow (Explicit) - Two Heads Are Better Than One
I finally started uploading everything to AO3. It's not all up yet but if for some reason you want to read them again after this post gets unpinned and lost in the shuffle, there is a place

I had meant to post this first, but then got behind, and basically ran that way the whole month. I DID however get things written and submitted on time which I was very happy about, and really had a lot of fun with this one overall!!
Thank you @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast for hosting like usual, and giving such great prompts every year!! I look forward to this every year to try and stretch myself!
Congrats to everyone who wrote *something*! If you posted it publicly or not, even if you only did one prompt, or the whole thing! It was great to read everything!!
This year for me, brought about the formal introduction of Karo's birth family, and most importantly her brother, which really has been fun to start to dive into, as well as plenty of Bardic Trio fun as well! I kinda got stuck with Kar'a, so, unfortunately not as many prompts with her, but she poked her head in a couple of times, same with Seir and Feo! Loooots of music-themed ones for a very Bardic Karo this time around too!
Prior Years: 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 (still upcoming)
Full list under the cut, with some metrics!
Steer - 5.0 Karo and Ardbert
Horizon - 6.x Myths of the Realm, Karo/G'raha
Tempest - 5.x Karo with Thancred and G'raha (silly)
Reticent - 6.0 Karo (cw: injury)
Stamp - 5.4+ Thancred/G'raha sappiness
Halcyon - 6.0ish Kar'a poetry
Morsel - 7.0 setting, Meet Rremeyo!
Free Day 1 - 7.0 beginning Karo, Rremeyo
Lend an Ear - 5.x G'raha and Thancred
Stable - 6.0 Karo at the end of MSQ
Surrogate - Pre-Cal, Seir and Feo
Quarry - 4.x Karo in Ala Mhigo
Butte - 4.0 Karo in Doma
Telling - 7.0 Karo and company after 1st dungeon
Free Day 2 - 3.0 Karo with Estinien
Third-Rate - 6.x Karo (ft @newty 's L'selle and Y’lantaa)
Sally - Karo in @nuclearanomaly 's Bookshop AU! (vaguely. heh)
Hackneyed - 5.x (Eden) Karo with Ryne and Gaia
Taken - 5.5ish Semi-spicy Karo/G'raha/Thancred
Duel - 5.2 Karo with Ryne and Thancred
Shade - 7.0 Heading into zone 4 Karo with Erenville
Free Day 3 7.0 setting, Rremeyo before 7.0
On Cloud Nine - 5.1 Karo/G'raha (Thancred-ish)
Bar - 7.0 half-way point Karo
Perpetuity - ARR with 6.0 knowledge, Kar'a
Zip - ARR Karo
Memory - 5.1 Karo/G'raha/Thancred
Deleterious - 5.x Karo at the Rising Stones
Free Day 4 - 5.x+ Karo
Two Heads are Better than One - NSFW 6.0 Karo/G'raha/Thancred
Total works is apx 24,200
Longest is Memory, shortest is Halcyon.
I think my fav is still Third-Rate, followed by Bar and Memory. Free Day 1 still tickles me silly with the near-miss. Thank you to Nini and Bri for letting me play in their AU/with their characters!!
This month has been such a blur, I honestly *forgot what I had written* for some of these. Overall happy with myself, and will work on porting this all over to AO3 here soon!! Thank you if you've been reading along!! I've really enjoyed reading everyone's entries this month!!!

My FFxivWrite2024 Entries
This is the first time I’ve done the FFxivWrite challenge - or indeed, any writing challenge for that matter! And when I began, I was torn between doing completely new and self-contained stories or writing scenes from the middle of the elaborate AU timelines I already had in my head.
So in the end, I went with a mix of both kinds of story.
For explanations on the various (Fordola-centric) AUs I write, including a list of the To Catch a Falling Star scenes in chronological order, see this post here!
And for a list of all entries I did for this year’s challenge, see below!
TL;DR: Lots of Fordola/Lyse, with a scattering of other NPC/NPC ships too. I’ve made it my goal to write each of the top 10 F/F NPC pairings at least once, plus some even rarer ones besides!
.
Week 1
1. Who wants to steer the Reaper? (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse, M'naago)
M’naago begrudgingly goes hunting with the Skulls, only to discover she has more in common with Fordola than she thought.
2. Narrow Horizons (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse)
Fordola struggles to tempt Lyse with freedoms she already has.
3. Visitors to the Tempest (Canon-adjacent, Ryne/Gaia)
The illusory Hythlodaeus welcomes Ryne and Gaia to Amaurot.
4. Uncharacteristically Reticent (8th Umbral Calamity, Fordola/Lyse)
Lyse can’t quite hide how much Fordola’s execution has been affecting her.
5. Stamps from across the Star (Canon-adjacent, Arenvald/Alphinaud)
Arenvald reflects on his collection of letters - most of which are from Alphinaud.
6. Those Fleeting Halcyon Moments (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse and Fordola/Yda (one-sided))
As Lyse and Fordola lie awake, Fordola reminisces about her feelings for Yda.
7. For a Morsel of Acceptance (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse, Charlet)
Lyse goes grocery shopping and discovers that being accepted as a Skull has some downsides besides the obvious.
.
Week 2
8. Wicked Hearts Aligned (The Empire won :(, Yotsuyu/Fordola)
After the Ala Mhigan and Doman revolutions both fail, Yotsuyu receives a new bodyguard.
9. Field Notes on Misija, Part III [Lend an Ear] (WoL was out fishing, Fordola & Misija)
Field Note style "transcript" of Fordola visiting Misija in her cell.
10. A Stable to Hubris (Canon-adjacent, Sadu/Cirina)
Cirina and Sadu investigate Magnai’s mysterious new “horse.“
11. Surrogate Hero (Canon-adjacent, Alisaie/Tesleen)
Alisaie and Tesleen during a brief, peaceful moment of rest.
12. Take our quarry alive! (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse)
After being taken prisoner at the attack on Rhalgr’s Reach, Lyse attempts to escape.
13. Butterflies atop the Butte (Canon-adjacent, Lyse/M'naago)
M’naago takes Lyse to explore a hidden forest.
14. A Telling Emotion (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse)
Lyse is jealous of Fordola's new gunblade, though not in the way Fordola expects.
.
Week 3
15. A Nostalgic Adventure (WoL!Fordola AU, Krile)
Krile finds a strange crystal in Galuf’s office.
16. Third-rate Azem (WoL!Fordola AU, Krile & Fordola)
After defeating Elidibus and returning from the First, Fordola has some pointed questions for Krile about their shared abilities.
17. Sally forth, to endings unwritten (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse)
Lyse makes her own choice as she and Fordola flee the Resonatorium.
18. Not hackneyed if it's from you (Canon-adjacent, Krile/Tataru)
Five times Tataru designed a Pictomancer outfit for Krile.
19. The Girl Whose Hand Was Taken (Fairytale AU, Yotsuyu/Yugiri)
Yugiri encounters a young Yotsuyu, in the style of a creepy fairytale poem. Or possibly a dark folk ballad.
20. Aftermath of a Duel (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse)
Specula Imperatoris falls and Lyse becomes a commander… but not the way it happens in canon.
[Dawntrail spoilers!] Bonus snippet: Lyse about to duel Wuk Lamat
21. A Different Shade (Canon-adjacent, Y'shtola/Zero)
Y’shtola and Zero hanging out and having a very definitely academic conversation.
.
Week 4
22. Of Parents, and of Family (Canon-adjacent, Krile & Wuk Lamat)
[Dawntrail spoilers!] Krile and Wuk Lamat discuss some feelings about being adopted.
23. Walking on cloud nine, trying not to look down (Canon-adjacent, Athena/Hegemone)
One possible (and very lesbian) explanation for why Hegemone kicked off the whole Pandaemonium plot.
24. Plans Hatched Behind Bars (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse, Conrad)
A lucky chance affords Lyse and Conrad another opening to escape - at the cost of Fordola’s life. Lyse comes up with a different idea instead.
25. Innocence in Perpetuity (Canon-adjacent, Wuk Lamat/Sphene)
[Dawntrail spoilers!] Having burned her bridges with the real thing, the Endless Sphene contents herself with simulations of how her relationship with Lamaty’i might have gone differently.
26. Zipping around the Hinterlands (Canon-adjacent, Lyse/Y'shtola)
Before the colony is abandoned, a very young Lyse and Y’shtola get up to trouble in Sharlayan.
27. Falling through memory, hand in hand (WoL!Fordola AU, Fordola/Lyse)
After Elidibus’s starshower awakens Lyse to the Echo, Fordola starts behaving strangely around her.
28. Deleterious Relations (TCaFS AU, Fordola/Lyse, Anamika)
Just when things seem to be going right for Lyse and Fordola, everything suddenly goes very, very wrong. Or: Lyse fails to prevent a primal summoning.
.
Two More Days!
29. Changing Tack (Canon-adjacent, Merlwyb/Kan-E)
When the Admiral receives a message from the Elder Seedseer taking her to task for her reckless actions, she knows how to read between the lines.
30. Two heads (at each other's throats) are better than one (insufferably self-absorbed) (WoL was out fishing, Fordola/Yugiri(?))
Yugiri and Fordola get off on the wrong foot, and now it’s Lucia’s headache to deal with.

Horizon
Fandom: Final Fantasy XIV
Word Count: 946
Rating: G
Pairing: WoL & Thancred
Summary: In which Nayra finds solace in the horizon after the events of Aitiascope.
Notes: I'm slowly posting my ffxivwrite fics on tumblr (though I've only written 5 lol), but yea, Day 2 of FFXIVwrite2024: Horizon. For context, my WoL, Nayra, lost her family in the Calamity. She partially blames herself for it, because she's the only one who survived. She is learning to come to terms with it with the help of her friends. During Aitiascope, she heard her parents' voice urging her forward. This story is set right after.
Read on AO3.
~*~*~*~*~*~
“Fancy seeing you here.”
Nayra turned around and spotted Thancred climbing the winding stairs with two large glasses in his hands. She cocked an eyebrow, lips curling into a tiny smirk. Thancred acted like he didn’t see it and instead held a glass out to her.
“Care for a pint?” he asked.
“You know I don’t drink.”
“Very true. Which is why Tataru sent me with another glass filled with juice instead. Apple.” He switched his hands and indeed, the new glass did look like it contained juice—if Tataru didn’t pull any tricks. Not that she would. Nayra smiled somewhat wryly before accepting the glass—one of those wooden mugs from the Last Stand. She swirled the mug, then decided to take a sip. A sharp tang of sourness with a hint of sweetness washed down her throat. Apple, indeed.
“Thanks,” she said.
“You’re welcome.” He took the spot next to her, leaning over the railing and resting his arms on the balustrade.
Nayra studied his profile for a moment. She had no reason. She just… watched him. The way he gazed out the open expanse of the sea, how his pupils constricted and his brows winced when the light caught his eyes, how he brought the rim of his glass to his lips and his throat bobbed as pint—or whatever he had brought with him—went down it. It was a moment after he rested his glass arm on the railing once more that he let out a quiet chuckle and glanced sideways at her.
“You’re gonna bore a hole in my head with the way you’re looking at me.”
Nayra blinked. She hadn’t realized.
She cleared her throat then took another gulp of her juice. “So what brings you here?” she asked instead.
Thancred barked another laugh. “For your information, this has been my secret place since before you came here.”
“It’s not so secret with how open it is,” Nayra retorted with a smile.
They stood on the outermost platform of Sharlayan’s harbor—a circular half tower connected to the rest of the dock by a set of winding stairs. As open as it was, people rarely went there, except, probably, one of the Ironhearts, a family of explorers Nayra never failed to meet in her journey. Babeth Ironheart wasn’t present at the moment, and Nayra had deemed it the best place to be with her thoughts. It wasn’t that she was averse to companionship, but had Ironheart been there, Nayra might have found herself chatting with her about the places they’d visited instead—a feat now made possible with Thancred’s entrance.
“‘Tis a good place, though,” Thancred concurred. “The sea spreads before you like a glistening sheet of diamonds; the sky expands as far as the eye could see. You don’t often see such an unobstructed view of the horizon.” He paused. “I used to come here because it reminded me of Limsa.”
Nayra cradled her glass in her hands. She took a sip, then turned around to face the sea. “Did you used to miss Limsa?” she asked.
“I missed the chaos—the cacophony. You have to know: for a street urchin, Sharlayan wasn’t exactly my kind of city.” Nayra laughed; yes, she could see that. “The amount of headache I’d given Master Louisoix and my mentor. Though I ended up acclimating to it, sooner or later, but sometimes I’d go here when I wanted to have some peace of mind.”
This place did have that calming quality to it, or perhaps it was only their nature to seek the open sky and open sea when their heart and mind lay unsettled. All her childhood, she had always wanted to see where the sky met the earth with neither mountains nor forests to obstruct her view. Her father had been a traveling merchant and whenever he returned home, he would show her the most exotic things he’d found on his journey. So time and again, she would ask to come with him, and she had—she, her sister, and their mother, coming along on his longer expeditions. The first time she’d beheld the sea, the width and breadth had taken her breath away.
They’d gone to Aitiascope the night before—had met all the people she’d loved and lost throughout the years. Sometimes, Nayra liked to think that she had buried her past behind her, but the moment she heard her parents’ voices as she was making her way out of the aetherial sea, her time had stopped—enough that G’raha had noticed her halt and asked what was wrong. Tears she hadn’t realized she’d been holding trickled down one by one. She’d turned around, expecting—hoping—to see them, to catch a glimpse of them, but she found nothing in the bridge connecting the facility to the elevator. Nothing except coalescing motes of silver light.
‘Nayra…’
Her breath had hitched at the familiar voice.
‘We’re so proud of you, Nayra…’
Nayra swirled her cup once more. The sky was clear enough that she could almost see her reflection on her drink, murky and dark.
Thancred hadn’t said anything else. He’d just sipped his pint and looked unflinchingly toward the distant horizon. No doubt he had other problems to worry about, but Nayra had a feeling she knew the real reason he was there. She chuckled to herself.
“I should thank Tataru for bringing me the juice,” she said. “And an apology. I seem to worry everyone a lot.”
“As long as you know.” Thancred raised his glass. “You’re always there for us at our lowest. I need you to know that we’re always there for you too.”
A small smile tugged at Nayra’s lips. She bowed her head. “Thank you.”

FFxivWrite2024 - Prompt #7: Morsel
“Kukuuuuuuu!”
Her howl was met with a wince, followed up with a derisive snort, but neither originated from the grey-moustached face of her husband. Instead it was Heckler, the most senior of the household staff, who rebuked her with that scornful look he was so famous for. It wasn’t his real name, of course, but Vivira couldn’t think of a better way to describe the old badger of a Hyur as he looked down his nose at her like she was the servant and he the master.
“Master Kukusito has taken mistress Glaring out to the city,” the man told her with a voice so icey Vivira had to suppress a shiver. It perked her right up. Nothing like a bit of attitude to keep you from getting like that, she believed. ‘Like that’ being basically everything she found mildly annoying or bothersome. There was no need for a precise definition. She knew what she meant.
“Oh, has he now,” she murmured, the brief bit of energy already fading away. The Fog was bad this morn - afternoon, the sun was high - and she contemplated going back to bed again. It had gotten worse now that the work had dried up. With nothing to distract her, boredom did far worse than any condition by itself ever could. Stupid Unsung and their stupid trips. What was she supposed to do when they went off galavanting around like, well, like she would like to, truth be told.
Her frustrations bubbled out in a sigh. “Would the lady like us to set her up for some very late brunch? A high tea, perchance? We have some choice morsels leftover from last eve’s dinner as well.” Vivira slowly turned her amethyst eyes upwards, staring into the face of her Heckler with a glower that would have withered a lesser man. He was no lesser man, however, and the way he managed to keep his face so neutral, even impassive, had a smug quality uniquely his own. Gil but how she cherished this twat.
“Why in Thal’s name would I want that?” Her voice was acid, and she was quite proud at the whip-like quality she had managed to squeeze in.
“Wouldn’t that be Nald,” he commented dryly before answering her: “A Post Moogle awaits in the parlour. Said they would only hand their precious cargo to the esteemed Lady Vivira Vira herself.”
She wrinkled her nose in a rare show of open insecurity. The genuine criticism in the jape wasn’t lost on her as Vivira became keenly aware that it was the middle of the sun and she was standing there in a nightgown, her hair unkept and generally ungroomed. When was the last time she’d had a bath?
“I take it you told them no such persona actually exists in this household,” she managed, but her heart wasn’t in it and it just sounded flat. Insecure, even. Heckler deflated somewhat. The old man loved their little battles as much as she did, so when his Ladyship offered him so little sport he knew just how serious her condition had become. The silence between them felt heavy as words failed him.
“Please have the girls draw me a bath,” Vivira ordered, and the gloom retreated back into the corners as she straightened to a semblance of her usual, rigid posture. Thal’s long shadow was still there, but contained. For now. “They’ve waited this long. Might as well add insult to injury.”
Lady and steward shared a brief, silent moment of mutual understanding, before both went their own way.

Happy Monday Everyone!!
Well, I hope you all had a good weekend. My weekend could’ve been better, as I have been taking care of a sick son who had to be kept home from school today, so I don’t know how much writing or gposing I’ll get done, if any at all for a few days.
In the meantime, I am prepping for FFXIVWrite2024, and I will be making a master post for it here soon. I will only be posting entries here on my main blog even if some entries might be focused on Yume or Yume/Zenos, just so everything can be in one place.
Anyways, I hope you all have a great rest of your day/night/whenever!! Love you all!!
💖 ~ Hali

FFxivWrite2024 Prompt #26
Title: Zipping around the Hinterlands
Wordcount: 1365
Spoilers Through: Heavensward, also references a small detail you learn post-EW about Y'shtola's childhood
Relationships & Characters: Lyse/Y’shtola, Master Matoya
Summary: Before the colony is abandoned, a very young Lyse and Y’shtola get up to trouble in Sharlayan.
(Exactly how old are they in this? Well that depends how old you think Y’shtola is in the present. :P Lyse is def between 6-11 and Y’shtola is a few years older to make the timeline work though! So there's not romance in this so much as friendship/crush-shaped feels. :3)
.
Lyse really, truly hadn’t meant to cause any trouble. When Yda had dropped her off with Master Matoya so she could listen in to a meeting about the upcoming exodus, Lyse had promised to be on her best behavior.
But Master Matoya’s study was so full of pretty liquids and complicated instruments that it was hard not to want to touch them. Plus, the only other thing to do there was read, and Lyse had tried reading but gotten bored and frustrated after a few chapters of arcane treatises and their even more arcane vocabulary.
Y’shtola hadn’t, though. Lyse’s best friend had shushed her and snuck a huge, leather-bound tome off of Master Matoya’s desk and then proceeded to happily while away the time with her nose in it.
So Lyse had gotten curious what could be so interesting about this book, and she’d happened to have picked up one of the glowing blue vials from a shelf. She hadn’t meant at all to spill the reagent on the pages, but Y’shtola had startled when Lyse had tried to look over her shoulder, and…
Well, that was why they decided to make a run for it. But no matter where they went, Master Matoya’s angry shouts echoed not far behind them.
“Can’t you move any faster?” Y’shtola glanced back as they ran through the river shallows. “Just a little further, and I know a place to hide.”
“Y’shtola… w-wait!” Lyse panted as she splashed a few yalms behind. “To your right!”
“Huh?” The small Miqo’te turned, only to find herself face-to-face with an aggressive okeanis. She let out an undignified squeak of surprise, then slowly backed up while brandishing her wand. “I’ll handle it!”
“B-But it’s so big…” Lyse flinched as the monster slapped its tail at them, throwing up a spray of mud. It hadn’t actually hit her, but she dove behind Y’shtola’s back, trembling.
“Don’t worry, I won’t hold back!” The Miqo’te’s brow then furrowed in concentration as she waved the slim twig of birch through the air and whispered an incantation.
“From ocean rise and cloudbank form,
From mountain spring and rainfall storm,
From river flow and life be born...
Water, water, froth and foam!”
Lyse gasped in awe as the nixie bubbled to life, then with a graceful twirl, sent a wave of water at the monster so strong it tumbled away downstream.
“Wow…!” Lyse jumped and clapped with joy. “You did it!” Y’shtola was the coolest person Lyse knew. True, Moenbryda was also the coolest, but Y’shtola was the coolest who could summon a familiar. That meant she was probably the coolest person in the whole world, as far as Lyse was concerned.
“Hmph. It wasn’t anything special. Just a beginner-level summons.” Y’shtola calmly tossed her head. But her ears flicked and she was blushing, clearly proud her efforts had gotten such a reaction from the other girl.
“I could never do that…” Lyse said, eyes still full of wonder. Wonder that quickly evaporated back into panic as Master Matoya’s yelling sounded even closer.
“Shtola, you get your tail back here! Lyse, that goes for you too!”
“Oh no, she’s already here!” Lyse wildly looked around, but the cave system they’d run into didn’t have an exit. If they tried to hide here, they’d definitely be found!
“I’ve got another idea!” Y’shtola clenched her small fists and glared determinedly at the rock walls barring their path. “If we teleport to the Sharlayan aetheryte, we can lose her in the crowds. Ready?”
“But I can’t…” Teleportation required intense focus, so Yda had forced Lyse to promise to wait until she was older. She wasn’t allowed to try until she could memorize the whole pamphlet Yda had given her on the subject and recite it backwards and forwards.
“Go!” Lyse reached out to grab her friend’s hand, but Y’shtola’s form flickered and disappeared.
“Y’shtola?” Lyse whimpered, her panic continuing to mount. “Y’shtola, I can’t do it! Don’t leave me here!”
But Y’shtola, having vanished, did not answer. She was probably already in Sharlayan by now.
Unless… what if she hadn’t made it? What if she’d gotten lost in the Lifestream like those awful stories Yda used to scare Lyse with? No wonder she wasn’t coming back to help Lyse.
The small Highlander’s heart began to beat too-fast in her chest. She wasn’t supposed to be alone. If she was alone, the Garleans would come to grab her. They’d almost succeeded when she’d gotten separated from her sister near the Wall crossing, and Lyse still had nightmares about it.
What if Y’shtola was now dead and it was all Lyse’s fault? She’d never see her friend again, just like her dad! Just like everyone else in Ala Mhigo!
The thought was too much. Lyse suddenly couldn’t breathe.
Then a gnarled old hand grabbed her out of nowhere. Lyse screamed, loud, and tried to dodge the grab like Yda had taught her. Only, she tripped and got a mouthful of murky water for her trouble.
“Oh, come now. You ruin my book, you make me run all the way out to the middle of nowhere, and now you’re the one crying about it?”
Master Matoya had caught her just like the Garleans.
“Please don’t hurt me! Please, please, please!”
But the ancient Archon didn’t hit her like a soldier might. She didn’t even shout at her. Instead, she muttered some words and banged her staff on the riverbed, causing an enormous bubble to rise up and keep the water at bay. Then, when the rock beneath them was dry, she sat down next to Lyse and roughly shoved a handkerchief at her face.
Lyse hiccuped and stared, mesmerized by the clean white scrap of fabric.
“Well, don’t just stand there like a lump, girl! Dry your eyes!” Master Matoya shook the handkerchief.
Lyse swallowed and tentatively reached out for the cloth. Once it was in her hands, she forcefully scrubbed the handkerchief over her face.
“That’s better. Now, where’s my Shtola? What’s all this fuss about, hm?”
Lyse took a deep breath. Then another, now that she was able to again. “Y’shtola is gone and I don’t know where she went and I’m really really sorry about the book please don’t be mad I’ll give you all my nameday money to replace it and I know it was important but I just want Y’shtola back.”
“Gracious. One thing at a time, please, one thing at a time!” Master Matoya shook her head.
Lyse gulped. “Y’shtola’s gone,” she repeated.
“Yes, I’m quite aware of that. Tried her hand at teleportation magicks, did she?”
Lyse nodded solemnly. “She said she was going to Sharlayan but what if she didn’t make it?”
Master Matoya shook her head again and let out a raspy guffaw. “Make it? Of course my Shtola made it. She’s been zipping about the aethernet willy-nilly since she was younger than you! Not that she’s allowed to, mind you.”
“R-really?” Lyse sniffled, thought the better of it, then blew her nose loudly into the handkerchief. “Are you going to yell at me?” she asked in a small voice.
“Oh, you’re both overdue for a mighty scolding, but I’ve better things to do with my breath.” Master Matoya clucked her tongue. “Like teaching you to dry books properly. And don’t tell me you need it because you don’t like reading! Every girl should have the skill.”
The kindly Archon stood, brushed off her robes, and stuck her hand out to the side. “Now, come along. We’ve quite a walk back to Sharlayan proper.”
Lyse took the hand and clung to it fervently as she followed Master Matoya out of the damp cave.
In the end, it was Yda who met them halfway back while carrying a very disgruntled Y’shtola under her arm. “Had a lost kitten appear outside the assembly hall.” She winked as Y’shtola hissed and wriggled as she tried to escape her helpless position. “Figured I’d return it before it got into any more trouble.”
But whatever Y’shtola grumbled in response was lost in Lyse’s overjoyed shriek as she barreled forward to bury her best friend in an iron-tight hug.
“Never, ever scare me like that again!”

One last reblog of the whole kit and kaboodle. Finished uploading everything to AO3 too if, like I said, for some ungodly reason you want to read my nonsense again. I'm still surprised I made it through all of them. But I really wanted to see how much I could do. Will I do that again? No. If I do this next year, I'll do the ones that jump out at me.
It was fun sorting out WoL lore. I haven't been playing that long, a little over a year so this was a really good exercise in thinking about how Riona would react in situations outside of what the game allows.
If you read any of my nonsense, thank you. I'm still a little nervous about interacting with people outside my tiny IRL group of WoL friends. Hopefully in the future I can get better about also interacting with other people's WoLposting too. I read a lot of fun stuff this month and I'm sorry I don't let people know that often enough.
See you in Glamtober 2024!

FFxivWrite2024 Complete! ...So now what?
Whew! Definitely still recovering from writing every day for a month straight. Speaking of which, if you’re looking for my master post of entries, it’s here and it’s now complete!
I also made some silly graphs because I love doing statistics on fan stuff, including my own :3
(Come to think of it, I still need to do that writeup on how I determined the top 10 F/F ships… it wasn’t trivial to figure out!)
So with the challenge done, the question is, what's next for this blog?
First of all, I’m planning to put the oneshots I wrote up on AO3 at some point! But it will be a slow rollout when it does happen. There’s a few fics I think will need major cleanup, and I’m also considering doing a gpose for each one as practice.
Meanwhile, I haven’t quite figured out what I want to do with the scenes from my Stormblood AU/TCaFS. At a rough guess, I think I’ve now written 75% of the major scenes, but there are lots of small moments and connecting tissue missing - including several scenes that I suspect will work a lot better visually than in prose. So do I keep writing in prose? Do I go with my original plan of doing them as screenshot comics? A mix of both? Well, there's no need to decide immediately…
After all, at the moment, I think I still need a bit of a rest! I’m really thrilled I managed to fill every prompt and even do all the extra credit. But now that I’ve proved to myself I can do it, I suspect I won’t try to do that again. I now have a whole mountain of other people’s fics to catch up on!
It would be nice to do another art queue too, perhaps… hmm…
Yeah, I think that’s what I’ll do for the next few weeks. Make little queues of some of the fanfics and art that I missed! Expect lots of NPCs, because that’s just where my brain is at these days! :D
