it's a shame the final architecture trilogy is so obscure because i just *know* this site would be all over olian "olli" timo
Tumblr media
^look at her!
born functionally without limbs so instead she uses all kinds of artificial frames for getting around and doing stuff
she has normal walker frames and stuff too but this art is of her jury-rigged castigar-made "scorpion frame"
she's literally one of the main characters and also canonically lesbian and she ends up leading a nation/cartel/cult/thing (inherited from her former boss(?); rip aklu) with her cyborg girlfriend in the end
actual force of nature within the narrative
olli fucking rules

Heyyy just figured I’d ask, since like- I’m writing a little thingy instead of just drawing for the prompt I unintentionally made, and it’s almost done, but like- I wanted to know, in your interpretation how in-tact Odysseus’ palace is. Since there’s obviously one place irl that people say is his palace and all, and I did do research into that- but to make it more accurate to your story, I figured I’d ask :>
No need to rush an answer btw, just whenever you want to answer
so id say it appears like any other historic landmark on the outside. that the tours mostly stay outside but tours on the inside do happen just less frequently. a lot is blocked off just so people don't get lost in there plus to preserve it. ody doesn't mind there being tours- he knows the dialogue by heart and probably has given anonymous tips and pointers about how he made certain parts and all that there are gardens, maybe a big one can be accessed but they are also mostly blocked. despite the palace seeming lifeless, the garden flourishes
but there's always been a secret passage in the palace. no one knows about it but the family. it leads to a safe room basically and you are immediately able to tell that someone has lived there an extremely long time. it's a maximalists dream in there and very much so the only place in the palace that has updated with the times

i think that i am in eskew and the gospel of haven are two sides of the alive architecture spectrum - on one end there’re sentient city and buildings in it and on the other there’s architecture made of the literal alive body of a god

solace and idris from the final architecture series by adrian tchaikovsky! you know the meme c:
these two have a very queerplatonic thing going on and I enjoy it greatly. I forgot the myrmidon ant-head logo on solace's armour but it's supposed to be there!

another thing i like about hivers is that a "hiver assembly" is in essence just a really big hiver whose frame happens to also be a massive industrial space station (we're talking dimensions measured in kilometres)
like yeah they're the main "political units" of the Hiver Assembly in Aggregate
but also that name literally just means "the consensus between hiver assemblies", and each of those assemblies is called that because they're massive concentrations of hiver units, that is to say, the little cyborg roaches
like these are just massive intelligences that bud off smaller little hiver instances that just.. hang around in systems all over orbiting the more undesirable planets, and it's just a thing people accept because they're good for business, they extract resources more efficiently than colonial or hanni or castigar efforts could so it's usually cheaper to just let an assembly build itself in-system and buy it from them
but the end result is these weirdass roach DI swarms end up becoming one of the major powers in the setting despite being originally created as tools and also not actually controlling any systems as such
and the whole time there's basically just one really weird old-ass assembly mind in each orbital
and basically none of the pov characters seem quite aware of that at first
because hivers are just around, they're helpful, flexible, reliable, you find individual hiver assets all across known space
but they only ever see the small ones, and that leads them to interpret "assemblies" as basically hiver space-cities, unconsciously
and sure, assemblies do have a significant number of instanced little ones in and around them at basically all times
but those aren't the assembly
you can talk to an assembly
directly
no government statements, no commitees, just the singular emergent group mind of trillions of cyborg insects

I fucking love reading every work an author has ever published and just rolling in all of the themes that they carry with them, both the ones they probably intend and the ones they may not even recognize*.
Currently reading** as much Adrian Tchaikovsky as I can physically stand before my brain overheats. Some standouts so far:
Distributed Intelligences, obviously. Which also makes me question the distributed NON-intelligences, of which I think I’ve only encountered one so far? Because Bees is obviously bees and also a person, but Avrana Kern is only ants and also a person because ants are the computers she’s stored on. Ants didn’t seem to acquire personhood even when they were accidentally a religion, and they very clearly only replicate Dr. Kern. Hivers and Bees and Kiln are only a person above a certain threshold of members, and below that they’re just non-sapient individuals. And HumOS and other Bioforms are intelligences individually as well as in aggregate, and the Miranda seems to be so as well?
Demagogue-style politicians work by creating impossible ideas that are basically willed into existence in ways that they simply will not ever comprehend, because they don’t actually possess a mind. The people doing the work of enacting any individual step of their ideas can be as blatant or secretive as they want about their actions, because the politician does not have the ability to understand the system either way. (This can be seen in the octopuses and the horrific Trump-stand-in whose name I refuse to learn.)
We are always fewer steps away from making slavery okay again than is comfortable. This is obviously very visible in stories like Dog of War or The Final Architecture.
SPIDERS
There are some people who simply enjoy that they have power when their power derives from the suffering of others, and their post-hod/ad-hoc justifications of their terrible actions will never out-scream the rush of pure pleasure they feel when they see the people they are better than being hurt. (Their POV sections often make me physically ill). (The Trump stand-in from Bear Head, the man running the underground human reserve in Service Model, the Ravin Uskaro POV where he decides to just not rescue most of a planet).
It’s really sexy when the two halves of a couple age at wildly different rates due to undergoing different amounts of stasis at different times. This is especially true if you end up with a woman that looks about 20-30 years older than her lover. It’s not actually important that they fuck — the sexy part is the hot older woman aesthetic. (Hot older women is a major theme in general, I just really like that both The Final Architecture and Children of Time both go out of their way to say “we were once the same age and you were hot, and now you’re like 20 years older than me and I want to fuck about it even more”)
There are obviously more but I’m tired and going to sleep now.
*Don’t get me started on Brandon Sanderson’s deep terror surrounding starvation.
**Listening to Audiobooks — please ignore my spelling of the names of things, I am simply approximating.

#too bad [Sparrow]'s an Ancient. means nobody wants to have anything to do with her. rip." For what it's worth, I don't know anything about her (didn't read the AU yet lol) but I'm already hooked. It's not often you see (positive) focus on the Benefactors/Ancients/those masked weirdos
I'm not sure if there's anything to really Read in the sense that the AU is more like compilation of my personal worldbuilding ideas, philosophical/psychological ponderings and believes for RW than an outright story structure. Quite a bit of stuff has also been either changed, is Going to be changed or I never got around to showing it because I never got around to drawing it.
But yes, haha. This is I think a fourth time(?) someone said their interest had been piqued because Philosophy Sessions looks into the Ancients (called Anemons within the world) in a positive/realistic/human light and not just the ,,Ancients bad because they made te Iterators and then doomed them >:(" way. And everytime it beams smth like this into my brain for some reason.
Tumblr media
But TLDR for Three Sparrows on a Wire. She started as a one dimensional character meant to be only a backstory love interest mention to Caper of Euros, but I felt bad for her & dissatisfied with that so I went to deepen her and as a result the entirety of the Anemon species gained giant depth and Also focus in the AU.
She's supposed to be a bit unhinged but caring low caste born religious failure that got into a high caste position by more or less luck, where a god calculator fell in love with her that she hadn't anticipated and didn't take seriously at first until she fell for the guy too.
Outside the world, as a character with a purpose, she's meant to serve as a window for those people that bash the Ancients and the religion.
She's meant to be appealing for that kinda person through the fact she doesn't do jackshite for herself from the spiritual lens even though religion for Anemons is more like a science- a fact of life- than something that's existence can be doubted. It's also a good exposition tool, since she has yet to learn about the spirituality herself, therefore letting the audience figure it out along with her (if I got off my ass and managed to plan out Some kinda plotline. at least episodic plotlines if not overarching..).
And then there's the fact that she's kinda a failgirl even though accidentally successful. I have some more Ancient ocs (less shown though, yeah) that didn't ever seem to really catch attention as much as her. I guess her being a caring mess makes her feel approachable. Even though she's a bruise-colored horror sachet with a mean looking beak.
If there's something that attracts a modern audience, it's a character that can't seem to just like itself for one damn second and tries to play it off.

Fun fact! Masque de Fete is a character I actually made for an upcoming Tails of Equestria campaign I'm in. This blog is essentially because I got attached and wanted to give him his own very unrelated story.
Anyway, this portrait was for his character sheet! I'm proud of it, I don't often digitally paint, and I tried new things with fur.
