i love jack stauber so fucking much. this is not a new statement i'm sure but i need to SPEAK.
i feel like people usually only listen to his micropop stuff (the extended songs, not the album) which isn't a bad thing!! some of my favorites are from there!! but i really want to bring more attention to some of his other stuff because a lot of it is really unique :))
so anyways. here's my list of super awesome jack stauber song recommendations
(under cut bc long post)
listen to the ENTIRETY of finite form. please. it's SO GOOD. but more notably:
'smooth' is a really fun song imo and it's one of those songs that makes me feel like i'm hanging out with friends :) very good vibes here
on the other hand, WINDRAG. this one makes me feel AUUUFHHFH. listen to this one to feel WORSE.
'trust flower' is another really emotional song, and i also 'the diverge' :)
again for hilo i BEG YOU to listen to every song on there but some highlights include:
'pad thai' feels like having a panic attack (so this one's pretty overwhelming) but SO GOOD. AUGH. 'it's alright' feels like the opposite, being comforted during a terrible time.
'pizza boy' makes me feel everything (and there's a very nice story behind the name, id recommend looking into that too :)
'getting my mom on' is just funny tbh. i love this one when i'm sad because it just makes me feel GOOD
'small world' and 'dead weight' are more popular, but it's for a REASON. they're GOOD. (particularly small world imo)
pop food is definitely the most popular for oh klahoma and buttercup but it's still good :) i don't listen to this one a lot so i don't have much to say about it, but i recommend 'my plea' and 'bothersome'
viator seems like a bit of an intimidating album at first (considering it has 35 songs,) but here's a few i like:
pressed flowers
bald rainbow
mara
lake
lifeline
and if you REALLY want some micropop songs then. here. i love these guys
order
4.99
polarizer
i hope you miss me in heaven
bubblegun
lima bean man
shattered molars
pumpkin pie
angel
blood pump
is anyone there
and for the extended songs:
there's something happening
out the ox
today today
al dente
the ballad of hamantha (i know this one's fairly popular but still putting it here because GOD IT'S SO GOOD)
thanks for listening to my deranged rambling. i love jack stauber so much if anyone wants to add onto this or tell me about lyrics or YOUR favorite songs then PLEASE DO!!!
#also these are just in my opinion!! everyone has different tastes and im sure i missed someones favorite song#i hope i dont sound pretentious. please tell me i dont#jack stauber#hilo jack stauber#hilo#pop food#finite form#viator#jack staubers micropop#pory.txt

silliee goofy music goober guy-2
i would draw something with a background, but this drawing of jack stauber took me all day to draw, and i was suffering through the whole time drawing this, since i was forced to use ibis pain, because i wasn't on my ipad. so your getting this instead.

oh yeah- i woulda probably not put the drawings of his albums in the drawing, but since i took time on making them look good, i decided to actually have them be shown, instead of not letting anyone see them, and making my suffering a waist of time.
also jack stauber with sunglasses = cool 👍
#jack stauber#finite form#pop food#viator#hilo#and yes i know its called ibis paint#and not ibis pain#but i call it ibis pain#because it mentally makes me feel pain /hj

Actually, I got more thoughts re: the mortalification of the Exandrian pantheon (some of which have already been said), because while I think the way we got to this point was INCREDIBLY rushed and stupid and poorly executed, and I think there SHOULD be major world changing consequences that just...don't seem to be happening in canon...I DO think the idea is interesting, at least on paper.
Putting it below a cut because I'm not capable of shutting up, apparently.
Like, how would this work? Are the gods going to all be reborn as mortals at the same time or is it going to be a staggered process like it appears to have been during Downfall? Are they born with that immediate awareness of what they were, or, like with consecution, do those memories and knowledge come back as they grow up?
Would these mortal forms have powers greater than the average Exandrian due to, you know, gods, or have they really nerfed their abilities as part of the mortal experience?
And what happens at the end of these mortal lives? The fact that a Luxon Beacon had to be used as part of this ritual made it seem (at least to me) that this could be a cycle of death, divinity, and rebirth back into mortality that repeats over and over, because if this is just for one lifetime, what's to stop Predathos from coming back when the food returns?
Obviously there's the social and societal structural implications that come with the gods just suddenly being gone, and there SHOULD be consequences on divine magic... there aren't, but I wonder if one way this could be handled is that things are running on residual divine magic that's still hanging around, but it's a finite resource that's going to inevitably dry up. At least that's what I'd do if I went this route and didn't want an immediate impact on how paladins and clerics worked.
And what would this means for the gods as individuals? We know, for example, that Asmodeus HATES mortals, and now he's among them. The first time around nothing seems to have changed his perspective during his time as Father Milo; would things be different this time? Like. You're a normal person being raised by other normal people, you have friends and family and you love and are loved...and suddenly you start to remember this other life and this hatred you have. Would ANY of that be compromised by the lived experience?
And could that go both ways? Could, say, Pelor grow up as somebody who hates people or is not a good person only to remember all of this past stuff?
Would the experience of all of this be different for Vecna and the Matron, being former mortals who are now mortals again?
And then of course you have aspects that others have talked about, like 20 people pretending to be Pelor, cults of personality, the power vacuum left behind and how badly that could go, the demigods and pseudogods, what this means for the champions of the gods...
And what if they have families and children down the road? Tris's kids were demigods who had powers that kicked in and saved them and were implied to have important destinies. Do the children of these mortal avatars have unique abilities or are uncommonly strong themselves?
And the cults! Tiamat's cult, the Cult of the Caustic Heart, they still exist, Calli hasn't taken them out completely yet as far as I'm aware. They wanted Tiamat free and GUESS WHAT she's basically free now, just mortal! The Cult of the Whispered One! Other Betrayer cults! I can't see those going away any time soon and in fact I could see them getting WORSE because they know their god is out there somewhere and they might be able to directly get them involved in shit.
And what about fanatics? That village that was way into the Dawnfather and was using force to suppress the nature cults, what does this mean for them? Do they feel more empowered and get worse and more oppressive or extreme? Do they just kinda fade off and die out?
I do think it's an interesting idea. I like the concept on paper and some of the possibilities it could bring in terms of world altering. I don't like how last minute it felt, how easy it seemed to be to convince all the gods to go along with this, and the fact that everyone and everything seems to basically be the same after this happens.
And I don't like that there's so many ways this COULD go but it's not clear what, if any of them, will happen. Right now this was basically a decision that's changed nothing, which is disappointing because it could mean SO many different things or cause so many changes.
#critical role#cr spoilers#i personally like the idea of the gods being in a cycle of death and rebirth into mortal form#with each death and birth letting out like...bursts of divine magic that help keep that all going#(makes it a finite resource that wont get renewed with any level of regularity while also not removing it from play entirely)#but who knows what any of it would look like.#I do think the idea of Braius being afraid of every baby because it could be Asmodeus though#anyway things are eventually going to go to shit you mark my words#(meanwhile Predathos has found other worlds with life and gods and is their problem now THANKS BELLS HELLS 🙃)

Back to rereading the song of Achilles and I’m reminded of the ONE little plot hole that bothers me: chapter 12, Deidameia speaking
“No!” She turned to Achilles. “You are lying! You have betrayed me! Monster! Apathes!” Heartless. Lycomedes froze. Achilles’ fingers tightened on mine. In our language, words come in different genders. She had used the masculine form.
ἀπαθής (apathḗs) is a third-declension adjective in Ancient Greek, which means one very important thing- the masculine and feminine forms are the same. There isn’t any way I can think of that masculine gender would’ve been indicated in her speech here- she likely would’ve been using the vocative (a grammatical case which is used when addressing someone, commonly translated with 'O' in English, e.g. “sing, O muse…”) , so absolutely no article (not that I’d expect one anyhow, but you could devise some indirect construction I’m sure). She also would’ve used the 2nd person singular pronoun if she used one at all, which is σύ (sý), and only third person pronouns can have gender marked on them.
Point being- there’s simply no way I can think of that this would’ve explicitly been gendering Achilles masculinely- it would’ve been ambiguous. I’m especially annoyed since Madeline Miller is herself a classicist and apparently has taught Ancient Greek too! So I’d love to know if this was a mistake or what her reasoning her is lmao, because it feels like a pretty big mistake to me (but obviously is not something that most of her audience would spot).
#the song of achilles#ancient greek#linguistics#tsoa#madeline miller#deidameia#deidamia#classics#slight rant#I’m not that mad about it to be clear#it just is a weird mistake to make#especially when it’s such a pivotal plot point#being the thing that gets Achilles’ identity revealed#if anything I’d expect her to have dropped a masculine participle form lmfao#but I feel like she’d’ve just used finite forms for the two verbs in the quote#perhaps if she made it one sentence then you are lying would’ve been a participle to the main verb betray#I’m thinking too much about this#anyways#achilles#patroclus#patrochilles#achilles and patroclus#song of achilles

I'd love to read like, an academic article on the racism in Zelda games but I swear some of these read like the author has never played a video game before
#the enemies in this game will stop chasing you after a certain amount of distance#yeah thats not an example of how video game monster races are a form of unacceptable othering#it's an example of a video game being a computer program that requires a finite amount of energy to run#and making an enemy that constantly chases you across the map outside of its area is both difficult from a developers pov#and unfair for the players since once you engage in such a fight there is no way to disengage#that is not evidence supporting your thesis#which is a shame because i want to read more about your thesis

oooh so apparently joonono is a cuttlefish. now I understand (doesn't understand at all). that doesn't look like a cuttlefish to me but I'll take your word for it
also astaroth's species is listed as "demonic jellyfish." neat!
#also it just now occured to me that since I have the follower form I can just make any new follower one of these things#I could have a whole cult of just these little thingies ^#good to know they are not a finite resource. however I'm still glad to be keeping the joonono lineage going. my wifey...

fascinated by my own concepts. the only thing that io thinks ties them to 'human' is their emotions. their fears, their love, their trauma, their guilt, their joys. pleasure and sorrow. the highs and lows. beyond that... nothing? that's it. io really does consider themself something other. and to some extent they've always felt not entirely like a witch compared to other witches, either. and tie that in with sometimes having such difficulties with how that human 'guise' looks? io, I think, can have some very, very disorienting moments in their life. also, honestly, viewing io as something 'other' is not a terrible assumption to make. they don't age. they're permanently stuck at one appearance, barring scarring, for the rest of their days. and they exude something that can prickle the hair on anyone's neck especially when their magic is fully in play and not just lurking around like a trouble-making cat.
#⌜❝ 𝙾𝙾𝙲. until next song. i will live until you die. ❞ ⌟#that's why I still think that io letting someone feel their magic as they do is intimate beyond intimate#because /that/ is io#that is what io is and what they think of themself as a being#to be stuck in a human form. even if you were born into it isn't /you/#and to feel that is to experience something beyond human senses#because to io their magic is their second heart. its a doubling of nerves. it's sensitivity that a human doesn't feel like they do#and it's very much like being lit of fire from the inside out#and io /relishes/ in that feeling. they love it. it's them. completely and wholly. and it's not a little spark#it's a barely contained inferno#pokes at this#it's a gender thing it's also a magic thing it's also a divine thing#infinite being in a finite body#always feeling just a little off. a little trapped
