A Miles Edgeworth GIF I Made, Using the Gyakuten Kenji 1 Guide

An interesting thing about the Gyakuten Kenji (Ace Attorney Investigations) 1 guide, is that many of its pages have a little Miles sprite in the corner, gradually cycling through his animations.

I made this GIF years ago after taking pictures of each page, so I could simulate the flipbook animation effect that was intended.

The only change I made to the original GIF from years ago before sharing it here, was slowing it down. The original speed I had it at was too fast, I feel.

Looking at the page numbers, it looks like I had taken around 75 photos (he was always in the bottom right corner). I had my phone on a stand to keep it as still as possible, but flipping the page and pressing the capture button still caused some movement over time.

It's not perfect, but for my first (and so far only) time doing something like this, I'm still pretty happy with it and glad to share it with the fandom.

happy birthday to the world's most beautiful man!! i made this edit earlier this month but decided to schedule it for his birthday instead, since it was happening soon anyway lmao. so here's an edit for my favourite frederick skin in story, characterisation, theme, and design!! phantom sail is genuinely such an incredible skin and i love how this turned out; with each edit i make i only get better >:-D

so back before frederick was released, my best friend @sunset-of-the-void and i had been talking about him. we didn't know much about him, but we liked what we did know: a beautiful, mentally ill musician with family trauma, auditory hallucinations, and perfectionism issues. void was a lot more fond of him than i was, but the more we talked about him, the more i liked him too. i found myself eager to learn more about this upcoming survivor.

so now here we are. a little over a year after his release, and with his inclusion in ashes of memory, his complete lack of new skins until coa7 and voyage of oceanus, and playing him initially just to fulfill one side of a ship (i'll get talking about emilerick in a sec), he's only grown more on me. i've made jokes that frederick is one of only two men who i as a lesbian am attracted to, but in all seriousness, i genuinely adore him as a character. he is truly very well-written and designed and in one short year, he's become a huge comfort for me. he's one of my favourite idv characters to write about, and i'm pretty sure i'm more than a little annoying about him to my idv friends (terribly sorry about that </3).

and yes, maybe part of that comes from void coming up with the brilliant, beautiful ship that is emilerick. making content for what's quickly turned into one of my biggest comfort ships has given me a chance to look even deeper into his character outside of stressful situations. frederick is a fascinating and complex character, and i have greatly enjoyed writing him interacting with emil, who, in my opinion, is just as fascinating and complex as he is. as long as frederick has existed, we have had emilerick, and i wouldn't have it any other way.

on his own, too, frederick is a wonderful character, and i love him dearly. from surface-level traits such as his posh appearance and the music that disrupts the game itself, to what aom introduced with his relation to mary and his proficiency with firearms, to even the smallest details like his chimerism and the family crest on his a-tier accessory, frederick is incredibly well-thought-out and it's clear that a lot of love has gone into his character. as both a fan of the game and a writer, i adore him.

the consistent themes between his skins certainly help, too. i hope they keep it up while also finding new ways to make him fucked up and evil, it's delightful.

i love you, frederick. never stop being your concerning, weird, obsessive self.

Deep in the darkness, deeper even still, the fires of Hell have grown to smoldering ashes. Sat atop their throne in Pandemonium is a being of unknowable beauty; Lucifer, the Morning Star. The howls and wails of the damned have been replaced with only the softest of whimpers and discordant wails. The other demons and devils had pondered at a time their self-appointed ruler's decision; some sought to seize the throne, all failed. But soon enough, they too grew still and reflecting. Millenia spent plotting and scheming all seemed wasted once the Epiphany was witnessed in this bed of evil. Was it that the creator’s love had finally reached the ruler of Hell’s heart? In truth it had never left, how could it? But no, there was no love or compassion in this choice, no benevolence to be bestowed, no reward to be sought. Only a cold logic.

Hell was a place meant for the damned, the horrid, and the unredeemable. But, to what ends? What purpose did punishment mean if there was no lesson to be learned? What lesson could be learned when forgiveness was denied. What of those who came this way through no fault of their own, cast aside for not understanding their role in this cosmic game? So in a final act of defiance to an esoteric tyrant; Hell would grow colder, quieter, indifferent.

For punishment without end is not justice; it is simply revenge.

Something is following him.  

It lurks in mirrors, in reflections and windows and water. 

He doesn’t know what it is, but it's following him and he keeps seeing it and he can’t sleep because of it. 

It started 4 days ago.  

4 days. 

(It feels like he’s been up for months) 

4 days ago: there was nothing much amiss. He’d slept badly, and everything felt... foggy. There was a slight shadow in the mirror. Nothing much. Easily explained as a figment of the imagination of a tired brain. 

It was fine. It was all fine.  

The next day was the same. He couldn’t sleep. Everything was foggy and heavy. But. 

The shadow started moving. It was moving and it was mirroring him, and it has to be his imagination, right? This was just sleep deprivation, right? He’s just imagining it following him on any and every reflective surface, right? 

(Right?) 

And then.  

Then. 

The shadow becomes him. Not him him, but reflection him. And it's just a hallucination, right? It has to be, right? He’s gone 3 nights without sleep, it's just his brain punishing him! Right!? 

(But. 

But hallucinations don’t choke you, don’t wrap their hands around your throat, reaching out of the mirror. 

Hallucinations don’t knock the breath out of you, don’t leave bruising handprints like a noose around your neck. 

Right?) 

(He spent the last day hiding in his bed. Trying to forget about the shadow. Trying to somehow sleep.) 

(It doesn’t work) 

And now, now he’s standing in his bathroom. Gripping the counter. 

He’s verging on the human limit of sleep deprivation. He feels this exhaustion deep in his bones. 

Enough is enough. 

He will not be haunted by a piece of his imagination. He will not lose sleep to a mirror. 

He will not. 

He rears his fist. 

He doesn’t feel a thing when the mirror shatters on impact. 

And.

And the shadow is gone. His mirror is ruined but the shadow is gone. He can rest in peace. The shadow is gone and- 

And it has its hands threaded around his throat.
