It's The Dragonguard! Wonder what they saw...

I'm really proud of this piece- not just on an artistic level (though the textures on the wood and wall were very fun to do), but also because I made it at all.

A fun fact about me is that when I make a pitch for a zine, I have this habit of letting the unused ones die in the crib; and when this one wasn't picked I was pretty sure it would never see the light of day- but I actually managed to gather up the energy to do it.

Usually for zine pieces I try and refine it as much as possible, so it was weirdly freeing to do minimal sketch touchups and allow my lineart to be this imperfect (honestly I think the odd wobbliness adds to it).

Fields of Mistria Dell, Luc, and Maple x Pokemon

Thoughts when making these below:

Dell only needs one Pokemon and that would obviously be Falinks. What more can she ask for? little minions? check! Chaotic little troops? check! Dragonguards, move out!! That's pretty much a 5-in-1 there much to Nora's chagrin. For Luc, he's obviously a bug-type trainer. I chose Joltik and Spinarak since his dialogues state he has a tarantula. Scyther would be too big for his room so I think he would rather have a Fomantis later on.

Maple, the little queen that she is with a bit of spunk, would have Gothita and Smoochum to match her vibe. I would like to think that later she and Luc would share a female combee. Maple would love a queen bee like Vespiquen. Side note: I tried to do lineless art style with Luc and Maple's and I think it turned out great.

GALE!!! My Fields of Mistria farmer oc that I love dearly :) Will rewrite the notes under the read more cause my handwriting is messy and will add more as well

28 years old (the age isnt really important just like. mid to late 20s lmao), Adventurer and "odd job" handyman in the capital before getting the job offer at Mistria

Because his jobs were mostly contract work or temporary positions that didn't pay well, he was often food and housing insecure. Which is a big reason why he decided to go to mistria

Fucking allergic to earnestly talking about himself. He has pretty low self esteem that is mostly tied to his usefulness, so he just kinda assumes that nobody will want anything to do with him once the town is in working order. Also just unhealthily self sufficient. Would rather die than inconvenience others

That being said he is outwardly easygoing and mild mannered, and really admires all the townsfolk. He's especially soft on the kids. Has BIG cool older brother/uncle/cousin energy

Despite being quite bulky from all the manual labor he has great dexterity in his fingers and is very crafty. He likes making small trinkets and furniture and cooking delicate desserts. and he WILL weave Caldarus a hat that fits his horns.mark my words

Did his own piercings. 100% has been asked to do others as well. on a completely unrelated note I think Reina would look good with a nose ring. i might give him tattoos too idk yet

Superstitious, mostly about good/bad luck. keeps lucky items on him constantly. every day he pats Caldarus's statue on the snout for good luck :)

I honest to god have no fuckin clue who he's gonna end up with. Chat help me all the characters in this game are perfect

Side note but I hope in FoM the royal family makes an appearance in the game. I’d love to see Maple freak out over seeing the princess(es?).

I also have a slight theory that Balor is a runaway prince, but need more info than what we get in-game atm. If he IS a prince, it can’t be of Aldaria since Maple would clock him in a second lol
