On the brink of the eruption of several styles of architecture, with the revival of classical forms to the emergence of new styles, the question still remains of what is the significance of aesthetics in the world of architecture?

As a fifth year architecture student, I have been riding on this question in theory studying the history of architecture as well as in designing my own projects for the numerous studios I have been a part of. China’s central government recently called for the end of “oversized, xenocentric, weird” architecture that is “devoid of cultural tradition.” This firm decision recently taken by the chinese government resurfaces the centuries long question of how crucial ornamentation is to architecture
