Fossilised copal with inclusions, pleistocene madagascar, certified
Scale cube=1cm: Full sizing please see photo
All of our Fossils are 100% Genuine Specimens & come with a Certificate of Authenticity
Specimen: Copal with Inclusion
Age: Pleistocene Period ~ 2.58 - 0.012 million years ago
Location: Madagascar
Copal is hardened tree resin, & a younger variation of Amber. These Copal samples are packed with inclusions, including flies, ants, bugs, and more! They are generally easy to see with the naked eye, though we recommend using a magnifying aid to view the inclusions. Copal can tend to be cloudier than Amber.
Copal & Amber Inclusions are unfortunate insects, plants etc. which became entombed in tree resin (not tree sap) millions of years ago. With the inclusion engulfed, the resin slowly hardened through a natural polymerization of the original organic compounds. This hardened material is known as Copal, which preserves the inclusion perfectly. Through time the Copal becomes buried and, over a several million year process, slowly turns into what we know as Amber. Incredibly this process has allowed us to marvel at ancient specimens frozen in time, as if captured only yesterday!
*We would always suggest using a magnifying aid to view your specimen so to truly appreciate the inclusions stunning frozen detail.
ACTUAL AS SEEN: The image shows the EXACT specimen you will receive. The specimen has been carefully hand selected and photographed. Measurements are as accurate as possible, though be aware measuring precise dimensions can be difficult from irregular shaped items. Whilst we portray colours as close to life-like as we can, colours will vary if taken in sunlight, indoors, from monitor to monitor and device to device. Once this specimen is sold, we will update this listing with new similar selected item, with a new photo and dimensions.

Debunking a Dinosaur Movie | S. Reid
Pairing: Sub!Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader
Summary: When your boyfriend decides to point out the scientific inaccuracies of a movie you like, you make him pay for it.
Content Warning: s2 glasses reid is a warning, edging, dry humping, handjob, unprotected pinv
Author's note: first official smut fic kinda nervous. ive never written a sub character before but pls accept my humble offering. all the info here is from google and i dont think the research he mentions aligns with the s2 timeline but who cares we’re here for sub spence anyway not accuracy

A thud hits the floor of your apartment as Spencer drops his bag by the couch. He falls back unceremoniously on the cushions and lets out a sigh and you can't help but chuckle lightly at the sight of him, limbs sprawled out and head leaned back, eyes shut as he savors the feeling of the softness of your couch again after spending hours on his office chair.
“Rough day?” You ask as you wipe your hands on a kitchen towel after finishing the last of your dishes.
Spencer hums, “Papers upon papers upon papers..”
“I thought you liked paperwork.” You snort as you make your way to him, he turns his head to watch as you do so. His nose scrunches and his glasses shift slightly, your heart almost bursts out of your chest at the adorable sight, “Not when it feels like I’m drowning in it.”
You gaze at the way he looks right now; relaxed, the position of his head has his neck bared to the open, you want to sink your teeth in them, his legs spread wide and oh, it makes you dizzy. You avert your eyes and find his own already staring into you, a small smile on his pink lips. You're not exactly subtle with ogling him, never have been.
Spencer extends a hand to you, you take it and he leads you to sit on his lap. He twines his fingers with yours as he brings them up to his lips, he places a soft kiss and asks, “And what did you do today?”
“Not much,” You murmur, “Bought some groceries, laundry, and, oh! Jurassic Park came on the TV so naturally, I sat through the whole thing.” Your head tilts with a shy smile.
The boy grins, “Naturally.” His hands move to hold your waist as amusement fills his face, “I don’t get your fascination with it, it's not even accurate!”
A scoff leaves your lips at his statement and your hands come up to his shoulders, “Okay, first of all, dinosaurs are cool, I’m sorry your big brain doesn't understand that, and second, who cares about accuracy? It’s a sick movie. They literally brought back dinosaurs!” Spencer can’t help his little laugh at your defensive tone.
“I care about accuracy.” His fingers lightly squeeze your side and there goes that nose scrunch again, you fight the urge to just lean in and bite it. “You can't just clone dinosaurs through preserved DNA because it degrades over time due to environmental factors, they eventually break down and it would be extremely difficult to extract it from fossils. Even if it was preserved in amber, like in the movie, complete ancient DNA would not survive millions of years.”
And just like that, his mouth is rambling and his hands are moving against your waist, as if he can't stop the gestures to accompany his words but at the same time does not want to let go of you.
“They actually did a research once using a technique that sequences everything within a sample so it can pick up small strands of DNA. They used samples that were around 10,600 years old and they tried that technique to extract DNA from insects trapped inside copal, which is resin that hasn't fully hardened into amber, and they couldn't find any viable DNA. If they couldn't extract from copal then it's unlikely they could do it with amber.”
You're not sure if you heard every single word that he said but you hummed in response. How could you focus when Spencer looks so delectable in front of you? The way he’s looking at you right now with those soft eyes of his behind glasses, brows a little furrowed as he awaits your response. As handsome as he looks when he’s spewing science facts like it's nothing, you're not exactly sure if you appreciate him ruining Jurassic Park.
As if a little devil on your shoulder whispered in your ear, an idea forms in your head. If he wants to debunk the movie then you’ll let him. “Mhm, what else, baby? Wanna hear all of it.” You murmur as you tuck a stray of hair behind his ear, you don't miss the way his cheeks slightly turn pink.
Spencer’s brows furrow further, surprised that you’d want to hear about the inaccuracies of your favorite movie, but because he likes to give you what you want, he obliges. “Even if the DNA somehow was preserved and they successfully extracted it, and cloned it, there's also the issue of the dinosaurs’ ability to live in our environment.”
“What do you mean?” You tilt your head, egging him on to continue. Just as he opens his mouth to do so, you move against his crotch ever so slightly, so slightly that Spencer isn't sure that it happened at all or if you had even meant to do it but still, his breath hitches and he blanks for a moment.
Spencer realizes that maybe he shouldn't have started this discussion at all because now all he wants is to feel you. He’s not sure if he can tell you all the science when his want is slowly clouding every corner of his mind.
Your finger comes up to tap his cheek and softly ask, “Hey, where'd you go, genius? You haven't answered my question, something bothering you?”
The way you say it with a little glimmer in your eyes makes him think there's something being plotted against him but he can't bring himself to further think about it because your thumb is now stroking his cheek in delicate little lines, all while your eyes never leave his.
He swallows and shakes his head, “No, uh,” What was he talking about again? Oh, right. “The Earth's environment then is different than now. It's possible that some dinosaurs wouldn't be able to survive in our environment. Tyrannosaurus rexes or T-rexes, for example, they—” Spencer cuts off with a gasp when you move your hips against him again, firmer this time and there's no mistaking it for an accident.
“They what, hm?”
“Evil woman.” He whispers, you laugh and Spencer thinks he's fucked. His cock is stirring in his pants and he's suffering by the second.
You can feel him getting harder and the way his struggle is so obvious on his face makes it all the more fun for you. “Keep going or you won't get what you want.” Your voice is honey sweet and to make yourself clear, you lean in close to his lips and give a delicious roll on his growing erection that has his eyes fluttering shut, a small sound emitting from his pretty lips, even it affected you. While you enjoy seeing Spencer worked up, you’re suffering just as much. It's taking a lot of willpower to refrain yourself from just kissing him breathless and riding him until he's crying.
You press your lips to the corner of his mouth, trailing kisses down to his jaw, his breath is hot against your cheek and you feel the heaving of his chest beneath your palms.
“Please,” Spencer whispers when you kiss down his neck.
“You know what to do if you want more, honey.” You nudge his nose and he looks at you with the prettiest doe eyes known to man because Spencer does know what he needs to do but it was worth a shot.
Ignoring the way you start running your hands up and down his chest, he does what you want, he’s a good boy after all.
“T-rexes lived in the Cretaceous period which would be about 145 to 66 million years ago and oh,” He almost whimpers when you start moving against him again, this time you don’t stop. You resume your kisses on his neck and Spencer is so hard it hurts, “The average global temperature at that time was about 4°C higher than today–” He moans when you suck on that sweet spot on his neck and his hips buck up without meaning to. “They’d have to adapt to lower temperatures.”
You squeeze his shoulder to try to stop your eyes from closing and focus on his moving lips but the friction feels so good against your covered core that you can't help your own sounds of pleasure. His fingers find their way under your shirt and grip the skin tightly, maybe it's a little cheating that he's trying to guide your movements so you're humping him harder but you don't say anything.
Heat is coiling in Spencer's stomach, he can't take much more of this, “I can't. Please, touch me.” His voice sounds broken and something about it is so sexy that it increases your arousal tenfold.
“I am touching you, baby.” You coo and dear God, the boy pouts. You want to ruin him.
“Kiss me, please,” Spencer mumbles, doe eyes boring into yours like he knows you love it when he looks at you like that, like a puppy asking for a treat.
You snake a hand to the back of his head and let your lips descend to his. He moans like his thirst has been quenched after being deprived of water for so long. The kiss is messy, it's filthy, and Spencer's head is spinning as he chases each movement of your lips. His pants are so tight, his cock straining underneath them, and when your tongue finds its way inside his mouth? He’s gone. His glasses are in the way but neither of you makes an effort to remove it. He looks hotter with them anyway. Your fingers pull his hair just hard enough that his head tilts back, the moan that leaves his mouth is downright sinful even when it's muffled by your own.
Spencer can't think, there is nothing in his mind except you, your tongue, and your hips rutting against him. He’s so close to coming and he can't believe he's about to cream in his pants, talk about being a loser. Oh, is he sorely mistaken.
As if you could tell he’s close, your hips still and you pull your face away from him. Spencer whines. God, he looks so wrecked, lips are swollen and red, his glasses are crooked and all fogged up. You want to have this image of him engraved in your mind.
“What? No, please, come back,” He almost cries, you have to take his hands to keep him from moving your body against him.
“But you look so pretty like this, Spence.” His cheeks flush a deep rouge and he squirms underneath you, “All fucked out for me and I haven't even touched your cock properly.”
“Fuck, please, please, please,” At this point, Spencer is not above begging on his knees for you to fuck him but then again, he’s never above being on his knees for you. “Please, I’ve been good, haven't I?”
You so desperately want to see if he would actually cry from being deprived of your touch but your cunt is aching and you’re sure you’ve soaked your panties, you're torturing yourself almost as much as you're torturing him, so you give in. You lift yourself up from his lap and make quick work of undoing his belt and pulling his pants, along with his boxers, down his legs. Spencer lets out a groan of relief when his cock is free from its confinement, it slaps against his stomach, flushed red and leaking.
“Look at that,” You hum, “So pretty, baby.”
You swipe a thumb over the tip, a broken moan emitting from Spencer. Spitting on your palm, you wrap your hand around his aching cock and begin stroking him.
“Oh, yes, ngh!–” Spencer wails, head throwing back against the couch and arching into your touch, “Thank you,”
“Always so polite, aren’t you? Such a good boy for me, honey.” You coo, voice all sweet and the praise sends him reeling, meanwhile his pathetic moans has you clenching around nothing.
All it takes is a few more strokes and your voice in his ear, and he’s close again.
“I’m, hngh, I'm so close, please.” He gasps and moans, his jaw slack, he's fucking up into your hand, brows furrowed hard. Your sly chuckle is his only warning before you remove your hand from him, denying him his orgasm once more. Spencer is now fully convinced you're a devil— a devil with an angel’s face, disguised in pretty smiles and sugary sweetness.
Fuck! Just fuck me, please! Spencer is so tempted to let those words just slip out and he wonders if you’d slap him for it, he bites his tongue and decides to not push his luck, although the thought of you slapping him is turning him on more than he'd like to admit. You laugh in his face, cruel and mocking the way he's pouting, and Goddamnit, Spencer is so in love with you.
“I know, baby, I’m so mean, aren't I?” You grab his chin, faux sympathy on your face. He can only whine in response. “Don’t worry, honey, you can have it now.”
With a quick peck on his lips, you lift yourself off his lap to take your shorts and underwear off, Spencer eagerly helping you. You settle on top of him once more, “You ready, baby?”
His head nods so comically fast, you take his cock and let his tip rub up against your clit a couple times, a little whimper leaving your lips at the stimulation after spending so much time focusing on Spencer's pleasure. You slowly sink down on him, a gasp emitting from the both of you, you take a second once he's fully inside because you feel so full it's a little overwhelming.
You want to drag this out a little longer but you've reached a point of pure hornyness that you physically can't bring yourself to take it slow. Poor Spencer almost shouts when you just start bouncing on him, you're so wet and it feels like he’s died and Heaven is in between your legs.
“God, you feel so good, baby, fuck,” You moan out. Spencer's hand has moved up your back, his fingers are gripping your shirt to death, his mouth is moving incessantly, mumbling and slurring out incoherently.
“Look at you going all dumb for me, so pussydrunk you can't even speak properly, huh?” You grab his flushed face, gripping his cheeks so his lips meet in a cute pout.
Spencer whines. “Use your words, pretty, I know that genius brain can do it, come on.” You struggle to get the words out, your body feels like it's on fire, your thighs are aching but you can't stop, not when he feels so delicious inside of you.
“Fuck, feels s’good– ngh, don't stop, please.” He manages to let out, he peels his eyes open and groans, you look so fucking beautiful as you ride him like there's no tomorrow, your mouth formed in a ‘o’ shape and your eyes fluttering shut as you make the prettiest sounds he's ever heard. It's the sight of you that does it for him. He gasps, “I’m so close, fuck,–”
“Not yet.” You grit out as you continue to grind down on him. Spencer feels like he's going to fucking explode. “I can’t, please, I can't!”
Your forehead leans on his, your mouths are so close to each other that he feels your hot breath on his skin, he wants you to kiss him again.
“Just a little more, baby, I promise.” You say as you move faster, desperately chasing your own pleasure. Tears well up in Spencer's eyes, he can't hold his orgasm off and he's certain he’s gonna combust on this couch if he doesn't come soon. The knot in your stomach grows tighter and tighter, your moans get higher in pitch and it drowns out Spencer’s pathetic cries, his cock is continuously hitting that sweet spot inside you until you feel like you're about to burst.
“I need to cum, please, can I?” He chokes out. You nod, “Mhm, fuck, cum for me, honey.” Spencer tenses all over, his back arching from the couch as he finally comes, his moans coming out in a whiny pitch. You feel the warmth of his release in you as you hit your own orgasm.
“Fuck, too much!– hngh,” He squirms and cries underneath you as you ride him through your orgasm. When you finally come to a stop, you're both heaving, silent as you come down your highs.
You wipe the single tear that has run down his cheek and place a sweet kiss on his lips. “I love you.” Spencer mumbles and you smile, “I love you too, Spence, even if you don't like Jurassic Park.”
He huffs a quiet laugh, “I won't ever try to get between you and dinosaurs again.”
“Probably a good idea.”

.。*♡゚Who is Leviathan?
Leviathan is described as a primordial serpent, found in many ancient myths of the Middle East. The most famous being Tiamat, for example. Leviathan was one of the possessing Demons named in the Loudun Possessions.
According to a Miscellany of Medieval Hierarchies, Leviathan is classified as a Dragon of Chaos. While according to Peter Binsfeld (1589) from Treatise on Confessions by Evildoers and Witches: Leviathan is the demon of envy, a title that follows him to this day. He also being the Lord of the Sea and the Void, as those are his domains.
Leviathan appears a lot in the Bible.
It is said that in the very beginning, YHWH created beings of great size to rule over the earth. Ziz, resembling a phoenix, ruled over the sky and all animals within it. Behemoth, resembling an ox, ruled over the land and all animals within it. Leviathan, the most feared and powerful of all, ruled over the sea and all animals within it. According to some, Leviathan dislikes these siblings of his.
We have some descriptions about him in the Bible by the way.
Isaiah 27: Leviathan is described as a sea serpent, long, strong, twisted and swift.
Job 41: Leviathan is described as a monster with a mouth that spews flames, a nose that smokes, a breath that kindles fire, and strength in its neck.
Psalm 104: Leviathan is described as a sea monster that likes to play in the sea.
In Jewish mythology, YHWH created two Leviathans, one male and the other female, as a way of demonstrating his power.
However, he killed the female one in fear of human extinction if the Leviathans reproduced. For this reason, for many practitioners, Leviathan can choose to appear as either a man (like in my case) or a woman, sometimes changing between both forms.
In the words of Asenath Mason, Leviathan is “the soul of the world, the eternal beginning and end, the element of chaos within, and the divine potential lying dormant in dark recesses of human psyche… [He is] the primal force of all creation and all destruction… Leviathan is the very beginning, the original cosmic force that gave rise to the universe… He is the Above and the Below."

Signs can vary. For me, he simply appeared in a dream, so I didn't have many signs.
But it is common to think about the sea or feel like being in the water, dreaming about the sea, seeing his sigil (Leviathan cross) everywhere, seeing snake and/or ouroborus themed objects, him visiting your dreams.

.。*♡゚Fun fact:
Leviathan's most known sigil, well known as the "Satanic Cross" or the Brimstone symbol, it represents absolute balance. The two bars at the top of the cross symbolize double protection and the balance between the masculine and the feminine. The lower part shows the symbol of infinity, which symbolizes the eternal balance of the universe, of life and death, eternity and/or a double ouroborus that symbolizes the balance between the spiritual and the material.
His name comes from the Hebrew Livyatan, which means to twist, turn or coil. Nowadays, this name can refer to big animals, such as whales.
John Milton, in his epic poem Paradise Lost, describes Leviathan as “the Arch-Fiend,” who lurks about the seas around Scandinavia. He would rise to the surface and fool sailors into thinking his huge bulk was actually land. When the ships were close, he would drag them down and sink them.
In Hebrew lore, Leviathan has two aspects, male— Leviathon, the Slant Serpent — and female —LILITH, the Tortuous Serpent.
The Zohar also describes Lilith as a female aspect of LEVIATHAN, who has a SERPENT body. She is Leviathan, the Tortuous Serpent, the counterpart to the male aspect, Leviathon, the Slant Serpent. Lilith is the serpent who tempts Eve with the apple of forbidden knowledge in paradise and thus instigates the Fall. She also persuades Eve to seduce Adam while she is menstruating and impure.
According to The complete book of demonolatry by S. Connolly:

A/n: Many people don't know who he is or don't work with him and, as someone who started working with him very recently, I wanted to make this little post in his honor 🥺

Ministry Perfume Associations
I’m back yet again with more thoughts about Ghost and perfume! This time it’s fragrances from my own collection that remind me of various places in my headcanon of the Ministry. (Usually these lists are mostly made up of perfumes that I don’t actually have, but this time I can vouch for all of these! I didn’t include any that I thought weren’t good.)
For the sake of organization these are divided into places in the New Wing (the most recent addition to the Ministry), the Old Wing (the original Ministry buildings), and the grounds (gardens, forests, etc). And as always, if you have your own thoughts or want me to do more of this, please let me know! I would love to talk more about Ghost and perfume.
(also: so sorry for the weird formatting, idk how to fix it on mobile but it should be fine on desktop)
New Wing:
Library: old books, wood, dust, paper, ink
The library is part of the New Wing of the Ministry, although it’s not very new anymore. Built in the early 1900s, the New Wing is all soaring ceilings, stained glass windows, and intricate woodworking, done in the Art Nouveau style of the time. The library’s floor-to-ceiling shelves are full of books ranging from ancient esoteric tomes to modern fiction paperbacks, interspersed with desks and secluded reading nooks. The library also houses the Ministry’s private collection of artifacts - some occasionally used for ritual purposes, some purely academic in nature. The library is always very still, with the occasional susurrus of turning pages and quiet voices. It smells like polished wood, faint dust, and the leather and paper of old books.
Library Ghost - Poesie
marshmallows, books, ink, polished wood
Myself Invisible - Poesie
stacked books, spilled ink, black tea, violets
Bibliotheca - Alkemia
leather-bound books, vintage vinyl records, mahogany, fountain pen ink, black tea, plum brandy
Canoodling in the Library - Nui Cobalt
old books, mahogany shelves, fallen leaves, ancient stone stairs, amber resin, warm skin musk, vetiver
Miskatonic University - Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab
irish coffee, dusty tomes, polished oakwood halls
Personal Quarters: carved wood furniture, tea and coffee, soft bedding, books and clutter, spices, vanilla
The personal quarters are also in the New Wing, separated into human quarters and ghoul quarters (for everyone’s comfort and safety). The personal quarters tend to feel very cozy and lived-in, as they are the rooms most frequently used. The furniture is comfortable, often occupied by off-duty siblings or ghouls, and the arch windows overlooking the gardens and forest cast soft beams of light onto the wood floors in the afternoon. The siblings’ quarters tend to smell like the possessions of those who occupy them - books, scented candles, tea and coffee, and faint spices from the small kitchen. The ghouls’ quarters are similar, but with the scents of various elements - smoke, greenery, damp stone, fresh air, resin.
Mysterious Fossils - Poesie
smoked black tea with creamy vanilla oat milk, a cashmere sweater, tortoiseshell glasses, a cedar chest containing fossils encased in amber, sandstone, and limestone
Whisper Your Bitter Things - Poesie
pressed coffee beans, dried clove bud and cassia bark, jasmine, neroli, roasted vanilla pods
Grey Cat - Nui Cobalt
smoked vanilla, marshmallows, fresh blueberries, lavender, earl grey tea
Kensington - Fantome
earl grey tea, cashmere, vanilla bean, cedar, rose petals, mandarin zest, pink peppercorn, bergamot
Ouija - Possets
cedar, rosewood, black vanilla, fat vanilla, rose, black silk, coriander
Our Days Bewitched - PULP Fragrance
walnuts, brandy, roasted cocoa beans, copal, cardamom, labdanum, black vanilla, aged oak barrels
Old Wing:
Chapel: resinous incense, polished wood, wine, smoke
The chapel is part of the Old Wing. The exact dates of its construction could probably be found somewhere in the Ministry’s records, but the gothic architecture suggests it’s been there for at least 500 years. The cold grandeur of the exterior’s intricate stonework and vibrant stained glass windows is matched in the chapel. It is perpetually cold, made fully of elaborately carved stone, and colorful sunlight filters through the enormous stained glass windows onto the altar and the pews. The heavy, still air smells like residual incense smoke, snuffed candles, fragrant wood, and ritual wine.
Holy Terror - Arcana Wildcraft
burning frankincense, sandalwood, myrrh, dusty beeswax candles
Anastasia the Patrician* - Deconstructing Eden
paper, ink, frankincense, myrrh, benzoin, copal, rose, juniper berries, wine
Leo* - Deconstructing Eden
frankincense, myrrh, benzoin, amber, liatrix, blood cedar, blond tobacco absolute, sweet spices, honey
Parlour - Fantome
mahogany, rosewood, burning incense, vetiver
*i think these were discontinued? sorry
Crypt: cold damp stone, smoke, dust, ashes
The crypt is the only place in the Ministry that truly reflects its age. It feels like it has been standing, underground, inhabited only by the dead, for hundreds of years. It’s well-maintained, but perpetually freezing cold and slightly damp. The stone walls are minimally decorated, and the candles in their niches do very little to illuminate the cavernous space. The air is weighty, and all sound is muffled. The crypt smells like damp stone, cold air, sweet dust, and smoke.
Gargoyle - Nui Cobalt
rain, lavender, cathedral incense, beeswax candles, ancient stone
Summoning/Ritual Chambers: cold stone, ritual incense, blood, wine, smoke
The ritual chambers are where summonings and rituals are performed. They are where every new ghoul comes into the world, and, more rarely, where they’re banished from it. The walls and floor are stone, and there are no windows. When in use, the chambers are lit by dozens of flickering candles, some in sconces, some piled onto tables, and years of melted wax have created puddles and formations on the walls and floor. The air is dense, thick with dust, herb smoke, ritual incense, and the scent of dried blood.
Baba Yaga - Fantome
black and red musk, smoke, cracked bones, cardamom, wood, animal skins, mugwort
Conjure - Solstice Scents
vanilla, amber, cedar, spices, cauldron smoke
Gothique - Alkemia
frankincense, styrax benzoin, myrrh, cassia, spikenard, canella, liquidambar orientalis, labdanum, atlas cedar, vetiver
A City on Fire - Imaginary Authors
cade oil, spikenard, cardamom, clearwood, dark berries, labdanum, a burnt match
Vassago - Fantome
A silver dagger, red wine, blackberries, cloves, orange peel, blood, a black mirror
Grounds:
Gardens: dirt, greenery, sun, fruit, flowers
The Ministry sits on a huge expanse of land. Most of it is still wild and forested, but there is a good amount of it dedicated to gardens, both decorative and functional.
Decorative Gardens:
The decorative gardens are lush and heavy with flowers and fresh greenery most of the year, tended to by the Earth ghouls. Some of them are small cloistered gardens, decorated with statues and fountains, and some are larger, intended for gatherings or wandering alone. The decorative gardens tend to smell like fragrant herbs and flowers - sweet jasmine and magnolia, heavy white lilies and heirloom roses.
Basilica - Milano Fragranze
thyme, rosemary, incense, milk, labdanum, cedarwood, cypriol oil
Fox in the Flowerbed - Imaginary Authors
jasmine, tulips, frankincense, wildflower honey, pink peppercorns, silver thistle, alpine air
Isabella - Possets
rose, light resin, white tea, honey, cream musk, spices
Olwyn - Fantome
magnolia blossoms, white lilies, jasmine, gardenia, buttery vanilla, myrrh, benzoin, orange blossom
Silver Narcissus - Possets
silver base, narcissus
Functional Gardens:
The functional gardens supply the flowers for decoration within the Ministry as well as the herbs and most of the produce for the kitchens. The gardens, orchards, and greenhouses are managed by the Earth ghouls, and yield so much that, despite the relatively small size of the gardens and the relatively large size of the Ministry, they still end up with extra. That surplus is sold at the local farmers’ market to unsuspecting humans who wonder in open amazement about the size and quality of this mysterious farm’s produce.
Sundrunk - Imaginary Authors
neroli, rhubarb, honeysuckle, rose water, orange zest
Drider Crossing Guard - Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab
dry, earthy fig, black pepper, nutmeg, black plum tea
Wilcox’s - Solstice Scents
dry woods, fresh herbs, dried herbs, warm spices, sweet annie, sage, rosewood
Lake: water, trees, evergreens, greenery, stone
The Ministry’s lake is very deep, cold, and still. It’s objectively beautiful, with its glassy blue-gray waters and lush vegetation, but something about it feels dangerous. The pebbled shores are visited only by the bravest siblings, and even then only on the hottest and most desperate of summer days. The water ghouls, on the other hand, love it (which is possibly why the siblings tend to stay away). It is located at the border between the new and old forests, and its mossy banks are surrounded by evergreens, ferns, and rushes. It smells green and a little salty.
Villa Diodati - Poesie
wild rosemary, balsam pine, crystal clear lakewater, dry, dark vanilla
Every Storm a Serenade - Imaginary Authors
danish spruce, eucalyptus, vetiver, calone, ambergris, baltic sea mist
The Forest: trees, dirt, damp air, greenery, wildflowers, fungi
New Forest:
The New Forest is a nickname given to the shallow edges of the forest that are closest to the Ministry. The trees are widely spaced, and the ground is thickly carpeted with grasses and wildflowers. Sunlight filters easily through the sparse leaf canopy and illuminates the fallen logs and patches of moss that make popular spots for siblings and ghouls looking to unwind. The air is light, and the breeze carries with it the scent of fresh greenery, tree sap, and sweet flowers.
Cape Heartache - Imaginary Authors
douglas fir, pine resin, western hemlock, vanilla leaf, strawberry, old growth, mountain fog
Dendrophilia - Nui Cobalt
moss-covered deadfall, birchwood and pine, lingering resins, sunlight through the leaves, a trace of woodsmoke, faint vetiver and cedar
Duende - Fantome
oakmoss, cedar, fir, labdanum, benzoin, tree sap, wild violets, lilac
Solovey - Fantome
black amber, violets, black currants, espresso, labdanum, black agarwood, tobacco
Old Forest:
If you go far enough into the New Forest, you will eventually get to the Old Forest. The trees are bigger and closer together, the sunlight struggles to reach the ground, and there are more mushrooms than flowers. The air is damp and cool and smells like fungus, loam, and rotting leaves. The old forest is avoided by siblings both because of the unsettling watched feeling any human who enters feels and the unspoken knowledge that if you don’t come back out no one will go looking for you.
Gaea - Alkemia
forest loam, ferns, decaying leaves, lichen, wet stones
Dies Irae - Possets
black musk, fog, bitter galbanum, hawthorn, rotting leaves, orris, smoky oude, frankincense, black amber
Feuillemort - Alkemia
dying leaves, smoked autumnal spices, dried grasses and fungi, Tibetan incense, cedarwood, rum soaked agarwood, and borneol
Samhain - Haus of Gloi
freshly turned earth, wet leaves, cold wind
if you made it this far 1) thank you lol and 2) i hope you enjoyed! if you have your own thoughts i would love to hear them!

Amber beads

Amber, also called barn is fossilized tree resin which is found around the world on the single condition that there are pine trees present. The color varies from a light yellow to a deep orange to red. Half fossilized tree resin is called Copal. The color can be manipulated by polishing the finished product.
The use of amber as a decorative element originated in the neolithicum after the melting ice caps washed amber away, after which they were collected from shorelines. Occasionally they can also be found on the surface.
In modern times, clear amber with fossilized insects are most valued, but it seems that in Neolithic to Early Medieval Europe, darker, reddish amber was favored. They were mostly made into beads.
A possible explanation for its value may be found in the alternative name barn. Barn originates from Low Saxon (West Low German), which means burning/to burn. Not only is amber indeed flammable, it may also be a reference to Freya’s flaming necklace called Brísingamen. The “burning” in the necklace is meant to be interpreted as “burning alike the sun”
Similar to almandine/garnet stones, the more of them displayed in a parure, the wealthier the woman was and the closer she could identify to Freya.

good answer is: Solstice Scents - Manor Fire.
Manor [Woody-Vanilla Musk, Vanilla, Agarwood (Oud), Sandalwood], Smoke, Charred Wood, Melted Beeswax, Wood Resin, Dry Wood, Burning Leaves and a hint of worn leather. Opens with a blast of strong burning woods and leaves, soot and smoke with pools of melted beeswax candles. The smoke notes settle down after the initial burst (10 minutes or so) and lots of golden melted beeswax emerges, along with a bit of Manor. The smoldering resins locked in the wood of the manor melt, sizzle and diffuse on bits of charcoal embers. Labdanum, fossilized amber, frankincense (a variety of types) and copal bark form a part of the wood resin accord. There is a slight hint of warmed worn brown leather in the blend to represent the dusty volumes left behind in the derelict manor house. The dry down is Manor, which forms the base of this blend, steeped with the most golden hot bubbly beeswax and bits of resins with a little smoke.
[description from the website - this one isn't listed on fragrantica, only "Manor" is.]
know of any fragrances that make you smell like a dragon? or like, pleasantly smokey? i splurged on replica by the fireplace bc i love the way it smells but it really gives more toasted marshmallow than roaring bonfire

@tanadrin mentioned "amber" isnt germanic, so i looked up the etymology, and
mid-14c., ambre grice "ambergris; perfume made from ambergris," from the phrase in Old French (13c.) and Medieval Latin, from Arabic 'anbar "ambergris, morbid secretion of sperm-whale intestines used in perfumes and cookery" (see ambergris), which was introduced in the West at the time of the Crusades. Arabic -nb- often is pronounced "-mb-."
In Europe, amber was extended to fossil resins from the Baltic (late 13c. in Anglo-Latin; c. 1400 in English), and this has become the main sense as the use of ambergris has waned. Perhaps the perceived connection is that both were found washed up on seashores. Or perhaps it is a different word entirely, of unknown origin. Formerly they were distinguished as white or yellow amber for the Baltic fossil resin and ambergris "gray amber;" French distinguished the two substances as ambre gris and ambre jaune.
i guess amber wasnt that common until the modern period? also, they dont seem like similar substances? i guess theyre both kind of waxy/resinous? idk, its very odd. anyway, this made me google baltic amber, and
The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of amber, called Baltic amber or succinite. It dates from 44 million years ago (during the Eocene epoch).[1] It has been estimated that these forests created more than 100,000 tons of amber.[2] Today, more than 90% of the world's amber comes from Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. It is a major source of income for the region; the local Kaliningrad Amber Combine extracted 250 tonnes of it in 2014,[3] 400 tonnes in 2015.[4]
?!?! its not clear to me why theres such a ridiculous amount of amber here, its so common it washes up on the beach! it seems like the three major areas were on the coast at the time of formation (theres also significant deposits on the coast of japan). something about coastal conifers is really good for producing huge amounts of amber i guess, keeps them preserved or something. they were definitely massive forests but there have been massive forests like everywhere so that cant be enough. this source says
When resin is secreted, it’s not certain that it will be turned into amber. More often than not, it gets weathered away. First of all the resin needs to be chemically stable and not degrade over time. It has to be resistant to sun, rain, extreme temperatures, and microorganisms like bacteria and fungi. There are two types of resin produced by plants that can fossilize. Terpenoids are produced by gymnosperms (conifers) and angiosperms. They are composed of ring structures made from isoprene (C5H8) units. Phenolic resins are only produced by Angiosperms. An extinct type of trees called medullosans produced another unique type of resin.
The next factor is that the resin needs to be in the right conditions to fossilize. Young amber could be transported in seawater (it floats), and then buried under sediment to fossilize. In the Baltics, glaciers knocked down many trees and buried them, allowing them to fossilize. Wet clay and sand sediments preserve resin well because they don’t contain much oxygen and the sediments eventually transform into rocks. Intense pressure and temperatures cause the resin to become a solid orange gem. First molecular polymerization forms copal (young amber) and then the heat and pressure drive out terpenes and complete the amber transformation
so i guess its exactly like normal fossils, needs to be buried in sediment just right to preserve it, and forests+glaciers+coast isnt common enough in large enough quantities to cause other massive deposits? anyway, neat!

It’s me again! I got a shortwave UV light for Christmas, and I finally got to check my rock collection for fluorescence! Some rocks I knew ahead of time would be fluorescent, some rocks completely surprised me, and some looked cooler than I ever possibly could imagine. I wanted to show them off, but man, photography’s hard in the dark! But after much playing around with long exposures (and getting a lot of very blurry photographs), I can finally say this: who wants to see my fluorescent rocks?!
Let’s start with some banded fluorite!
Fluorite’s the OG fluorescent rock. It’s so famous for its fluorescence that that’s why the phenomenon is called fluorescence, from the words fluorspar (another name for fluorite) and -essence (state of being). So fluorescence just means: “being like fluorite!” Right away I knew some of my fluorite was going to fluoresce! The zoning (different layers of colors) in this banded fluorite is doing some surprising things, though.
Look at that! Only a few bands of color are fluorescing: those thin blue-green stripes at the top, and the dark, honey yellow at the bottom. Surprisingly, the place that’s fluorescing brightest is that stripe that looks like a very dull, dark brown under natural light. But look at the bright yellow-white it becomes! Under shortwave UV light, I can even see extra zoning bands that weren’t visible to the naked eye!
Let’s test the rest of my fluorite! You might remember my incredibly cool chunk of fluorite from Rogerley Mine. The fluorite of this mine is famous for its daylight fluorescence, meaning it reacts so strongly to UV light that it’ll change color even in regular sunlight! Here’s what that looks like, by the way.
In sunlight, this piece turns a dark blue. But look what it does under an intense UV light! All the translucent crystals turn suddenly opaque, and the entire rock glows a vivid, saturated purple-blue! This is what I think of when I think fluorescence!
These itty bitty pink crystals are spinel! Naturally occurring spinel fluoresces under longwave UV light, but these little crystals were grown in a lab. Lab grown spinel reacts brightly to shortwave UV light, like the one I’m using. It’s one of the easiest ways to tell them apart. These lab grown spinel glow an amazingly bright hot pink!
Here are some of the pebbles from my Big Bowl of Gravel. Shining my UV light around in there revealed a ton of sodalite, a rock which is blue and white under natural light. But with my UV light shining on them, they fluoresce pink and orange! Sodalite is another mineral famous for its fluorescence, so I suspected I’d find these little guys glowing.
A rock often confused with sodalite is lapis lazuli, but you can easily tell the difference by looking for little flecks of pyrite. Lapis lazuli has them, and sodalite doesn’t! But these two rocks even fluoresce similarly. My piece of lapis lazuli glows with stripes of neon orange, but lapis can glow white or pink too.
Here’s a rock I didn’t expect to glow! Fordite is a manmade gemstone, made from the buildup of layers upon layers of paint on car production lines. It’s a way of recycling human garbage and industrial waste into something beautiful, and it’s one of my favorite manmade rocks. But this piece must contain some layers of fluorescent paint, because check this out!
Just like in my banded fluorite, there are layers of paint here that weren’t visible to the naked eye. Some (but not all) of the black paint is turning a turquoise green, and the yellow is suddenly full of bright strips of light yellow and dark orange. Some of the white glows, too! I probably should have expected this, since manmade paints and plastics fluoresce all the time. Some of my figurines and funko pops have fluorescent paint on them too!
Oh man, this one is amazing! This is septarian, a type of fossilized mud or clay. Growing in the cracks in the mud are dark crystals of aragonite and yellowish crystals of calcite. The dark lines of aragonite in this piece are fluorescing a dull orange, and some of the calcite is glowing a pale greenish yellow, fading to blue at the edges. But did you notice the super cool thing happening here?
Even though it all appears the same color under normal light, some of that calcite isn’t fluorescing. You know what? I think that innermost layer isn’t calcite at all, but barite! Barite in septarian nodules is usually pretty white or clear, but this big barite layer was similar enough to the yellow of the calcite that I didn’t even notice it until I saw it under UV light. Welcome to the family, barite! It’s so cool to find new secrets hiding in my old rocks!
Actually, fossils in general are pretty likely to fluoresce. Here’s my petoskey stone, which fluoresces a pale whitish yellow. The color is so subtle in person that I passed over this stone several times before realizing it was fluorescing, but it’s super obvious once you compare the pictures! I wonder what caused that pattern of non-fluorescent spots? Was it the way the rock formed, or did some of the fluorescent minerals get removed when the rock was polished? Either way, what a neat effect!
And as usual, I’ve saved the best for last…
This is amber.
And this is also amber! The bright blue rock with the best fluorescence of all!
This dark, red-orange rock turns super amazingly bright robin’s egg blue under UV light!! (It can be yellow-green, too.) The reaction is so bright and vivid in almost all specimens of amber that it’s one of the best ways to tell it apart from imposter gemstones like copal or manmade resin. There are even some types of amber that exhibit daylight fluorescence, just like my Rogerley Mine fluorite. Look at those swirls and patterns of light and dark blues! The way it highlights the bubbles trapped inside! How the rock goes from dark and translucent to bright and opaque! Amber is absolutely beautiful.
Those are all my fluorescent rocks! I’ve only tested them with a shortwave UV flashlight, so even more of my rocks may fluoresce with a longwave light or simply a more powerful light with better filters! Some of my other rocks surprised me with cool features like tiny, impossible to photograph flecks of fluorescent inclusions. From now on, I’ll be on the lookout for even more amazing, glow-in-the-dark fluorescent rocks!
(You can see more of my rocks over here!)
