we need to abolish the idea that ancient greek myths and legend have a coherent timeline. they do not. for any given myth there are like 10 heroes mentioned that feasibly could not have been adults or even alive. herakles keeps showing up in places where he should probably be dead. anyone could be a suitor of helen. even herakles. even theseus if you count that kidnapping stint he did. nestor is alive for 10 billion years. time is fake and anything beyond vague generational outlines is conjecture

sadly, kingdom hearts 0.2 a fragmentary passage is the most accurate representation of 'owning a brain that is wrong' that i've seen in a game, including games that, unlike kingdom hearts, are 'actually serious and well written' or 'make sense' or 'created by people who have ever felt embarrassment'. yeah yeah the going insane in the realm of darkness and the mirror reflection of you who tells you very dramatic and serious intrusive statements from the shadows and tries to kill you periodically whenever you step wrong while you try to gotta-catch-em-all as many cat ears and other fashion accessories as you can to keep your spirits up. it's also very pretty and fun to wander while this happens. sometimes you can't get from one place to another for no discernible reason. you get stuck in a half-broken town frozen mid-earthquake-collapse and need to do multiple miniquests to rebuild a walkway. mickey mouse is there sometimes. there's piano music. we all know.

man why was enlighter even looking into nice. he wasn't just trying to dig up dirty laundry, he was framing it as exposing nice for the good of the public. he even looked into the mistreatment of contract companies by nice('s pr team). i feel like we all glossed over the part where treeman legit fucked over lin ling's previous company for no other reason except to cover its own ass after og!nice dies.

obviously enlighter is framed as the antagonist (and he also is the antagonist) but like what's his motive? he seems genuinely convinced that nice is this goliath figure he has to fight against, but he somehow never entertains the idea that nice could be just as constrained by his trust value as enlighter is, or that nice is also beholden to treeman as an employee. i'm so curious about this guy. what does he know about og!nice that we don't?

Summary: He’s seen people like him before. He’s watched them all: lost souls still tethered to the world, searching for something that had been denied them in life and they now seek in death. They wander the earth day after day, year after year, century upon century, until they can no longer remember the reason they linger. And then they come here, to this little shop of his stuck between life and death, and he ushers them back into the cycle of reincarnation. (or: Wei Wuxian works at a tea shop in the afterlife.) Kay's comments: Just found this story again after reading it years ago and absolutely loving it and even more delighted to see that it absolutely holds up. It's just perfect. Wei Wuxian is stuck in the afterlife serving people Mengpo's soup. One day, he's serving Lan Wangji too. They don't remember each other. (Can you hear the sound of my heart breaking?) Don't worry though, there's a happy ending! Excerpt: He's not sure what finally tips him over the edge. The next time the man comes into his shop and walks up to the counter, he's waiting for him with a bowl already on the counter and a smile plastered on his face. The man frowns. "I did not order this," he says. "Rules of the house," he lies. "You've been here for centuries. It's time." The man shakes his head. "No, I am still looking for someone." The determination in his voice stirs something akin to admiration—or perhaps pity—in his chest. "I know they will come, sooner or later. I will wait." "What if they've already gone ahead without you?" he asks. "Then the last few centuries would have been for nothing." Doubt creeps into that perfectly sculpted face and he feels a sharp pain in his own heart at the sight. "Then I will wait here until his next life is over," he says. "However long it takes. I will wait."
