Surprising no one, all my top posts in 2024 were about BuckTommy. Here’s the breakdown:

1. Tommy’s just as insane as Buck (1,184 notes - Aug 15 2024)

This is probably my favorite post of the year, so I’m glad it’s sitting pretty at number one. Even after what we’ve learned about Tommy since I posted it, I still stand by it. There is no way Mr. Sure I’ll Fly Into A Hurricane On A Hunch is normal about anything.

2. Amnion (mpreg, 8x06 fix-it) (777 notes - Nov 9 2024)

This predated the mpreg tsunami that hit the fandom by about a week, but if you’ve been following me since April, you’ll know that dadvans and I had been surfing that wave all along. 

3. Season 4 alternate meeting (726 notes - Aug 10 2024)

I’ve got a list as long as my arm of ways Buck and Tommy could’ve met earlier, but the idea of “what if their paths crossed the day Buck learns about Daniel” grabbed onto my ankle like a mutant west highland white terrier and wouldn’t let go. 

It eventually became the fic Histocompatibility on AO3.

4. 8x05 spec fic ("Kiss me, Thomas!”) (704 notes - Oct 23 2024)

I wrote this after the first pictures of Buck’s face dropped a couple of days before the episode aired. At the time, we could only see one boil (I think the most popular theory was that a spider had laid eggs in his face, a la Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark), so I decided to have a little fun. 

Apologies to the people who were scarred for life after learning what a giant weta is. 

5. The 118-217 Shadow Summit headcanon (665 notes - Dec 29 2024)

A very late addition to the list! There I was with all these headcanons, still mourning the breakup and wishing the show had given us some cross-station shenanigans, when I realized I could solve all my problems with fic. Why would I try to get Buck and Tommy back together when the yahoos at the 118 and 217 could do it for me?

Then I took it a step further with this missing scene, which I had an absolute blast writing. These people are bonkers (to me).

6. “So? Tell me about the hot pilot.” (652 notes - Sep 13 2024)

I can never get enough of the Buckley siblings, and since the show finally gave us something substantial with 7x05, I decided to delve a little deeper into Buck and Maddie’s conversation about Buck’s bisexuality and the man responsible for opening his eyes to it. 

It eventually became the fic Table of Contents on AO3.

7. New Year’s Eve fix-it ficlet (651 notes - Jan 1 2025)

Okay, technically it shouldn’t be on the list because I posted it in the new year, but I wrote it a couple of hours before midnight while watching Wicked with friends, so I’m including it. It was a half-baked idea that became a half-baked fic, but it seemed like people enjoyed it, so I’m taking that energy into the new year!

8. More 8x05 spec fic (missing scene) (589 notes - Oct 24 2024)

Another fic that was born out of the episode previews, which allowed me to bring my 217 OCs out to play. All I kept thinking was, ‘What was going through these people’s heads when they heard dispatch say a body had been found at the 118? Probably something along the lines of: must be Tuesday.’ 

9. Pregnancy kink ficlet/headcanon (526 notes - Aug 29 2024)

No explanation necessary. 

10. Relative Value (499 notes - Jun 26 2024)

“Give me Uncle Tommy or give me death” has been my mantra since Tommy and Buck made out in front of God, country, and the entire First Presbyterian ER lobby. Also, it’s a headcanon of mine that all the 118 kids are obsessed with him, much to Tommy’s confusion and amusement. 

It eventually became Relative Value on AO3.

Well, this was a fun little retrospective! I can’t believe this dumb show pushed me out of writer’s block limbo as hard as it did, but I’m very grateful.

It's weird sometimes writing love notes for past days. Today (the 6th) is so much different than the 3rd/4th and so I feel strange writing things when we all can change in a day. So tonight I'm going to mention something I'm seeing all week.... all the time even. I have watched you all from so many platforms this past week, and I continue to be in awe of you. I see people sending each other love notes from across the planet. I see artists who are drawing things JUST to help reduce people's anxiety and give them some distractions. I see people stepping out of their comfort zones and sharing WIPS because they want to make people smile in these hard times. No matter what happens in this world, you are the good in it.

Please remember to tell yourself that. So much kindness, to strangers, to moots, to acquaintances -- people you've met in person, to people you've never met but talk to online. You are the change this world needs. You are the kindness this world needs. They can't take that from you, only you have that power. basically, i am never not watching peep show, and saw the episode where sophie says "i mean have i lived enough? i've only slept with four men" and jez thinks "four?! jesus. i've had sex with more men than that, and i basically only sleep with women" and thought god, that is such a buck 1.0 line and so my beloved ridiculous baby was born.

what if buck did call? baby steps in the direction of making up via a series of voicemails buck leaves for tommy. as with the sick ficlet, the intention was to tidy this up for ao3 at some point. i feel like this post is mostly going to be that!

i think the first snippet of this i posted, and it's almost a standalone quasi-drabble, but then i decided to do some sliding doors nonsense with the whole thing so, idk, full thing available sometime in the next four years i guess.

another one that needs polishing and putting on AO3 - from a prompt about them struggling to find time in their schedules to see each other - made all the more tricky by their decision to keep their reconciliation to themselves for now. resolved because Bobby Knows All, of course.

9) their sex life changes after they get back together - 310 notes, dec 13th

i refuse to believe that mr you'll break my heart, mr i can't be your last, mr self sabotage was completely open about his wants and needs about anything while they were together, never mind about sex, so here's a not-really-a-fic about tommy bottoming and vaguely subbing more and buck briefly getting in his feelings about it.

10) prompt fill for fluffy smutty makeup sex - 301 notes, nov 26th

again, does exactly what it says on the tin, although definitely more fluffy than smutty despite the fact they are actively boning throughout. post breakup, they physically and emotionally cannot get close enough, you can pry that from my cold dead hands. kind of like the fact that that ficlet and therefore this post officially ends ( as far as the dialogue goes, at least) with "i'm never gonna be done with you".

Jews and gay people should hide their identity in parts of Berlin with large Arab populations, the German capital’s police chief has warned.

“There are areas of the city, we need to be perfectly honest here, where I would advise people who wear a kippah or are openly gay to be more careful,” said Barbara Slowik.

“There are certain neighbourhoods where the majority of people of Arab origin live, who also have sympathies for terrorist groups,” she said, adding that they were often “openly hostile towards Jews”.

She told the Berliner Zeitung newspaper that “violent crimes against Jewish people are few and far between, but every act is one too many”.

A fortnight ago, a youth football team from Makkabi Berlin, a Jewish sports club, reported being “hunted down” by youths carrying sticks and knives after a match in an Arab neighbourhood of the city. The victims, aged 13 to 15, said they were spat at and insulted throughout the match.

The incident took place on the same night that migrant gangs filmed attacks on fans of the Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv after a European football match against Ajax in Amsterdam.

Germany has seen a surge in anti-Semitism since the beginning of the war in Gaza, with reported incidents doubling in 2023 compared with previous years.

Since Oct 7 last year, Berlin’s police have opened more than 6,000 investigations connected to anti-Semitism, according to Ms Slowik. Most of these concern online hate speech or graffiti.

Other incidents in Berlin include a football fan being attacked for wearing a scarf with a Star of David on it, a petrol bomb attack on a synagogue shortly after the Oct 7 massacres in southern Israel, and a couple being attacked in a fast-food outlet for speaking Hebrew.

On the day of the Hamas massacres, men handed out sweets in celebration in the Berlin neighbourhood of Neukolln, an incident that shocked Germany and led to deep anxiety over whether the recent waves of migration had made Jewish life less safe.

Neukolln, also famous for its LGBT nightlife, is the Berlin district with the highest Arab population. The two communities have coexisted for years, although there have been several incidents of gay couples being physically assaulted in recent years.

Earlier this month, a large majority of lawmakers in the Bundestag, Germany’s national parliament, voted for a new resolution against anti-Semitism that mentioned migration from the Middle East as a factor.

nano-like challenge wrap up 2024

as every November I try to, if not to write a whole 50k novel, to give myself any kind of writing challenge

this year I wanted to get back in the habit of writing AND make progress on my fic first draft, so my goal was simple: write something every day and I DID!

I followed my challenge with trackbear which I'm now obsessed with.

what I liked the most with NaNo was the tracking system and the graph, and trackbear allows me to have that and more. I love the option to specify what type of writing is happening (drafting, editing, etc), and to either count in words or time spent

because to be honest, while I do consider my challenge COMPLETED 🥳🎉 there are two days I didn't write any word. that being said I did unlock some plot points in my head while going to work, so I counted that as 5min spent writing

from Nov 1st to Nov 30rd, I wrote 7 109 words (bringing my wip up to 10 417 words)

it gives roughly 237 words per day.

in the first days it was sometimes more 70 words here and there, but then I got quite steady near the end. I was taking 15-20min right as I was getting back from work to write.

I'm gonna try to keep that up in december :)

last time I successfully did such a challenge in November I was pulling more around 500-1k words, but:

it was years ago when i was a student

i was writing in my mothertongue

so I don't see it like a downgrade or anything

I had a lot of fun, I reached both my goals (habit + progress in my wip). my first draft is BAD but it is WRITTEN. the general outline is decent and though some plot things are likely to change with the second draft, so far I have something that makes enough sense. it's not finished but I really crossed a line where I can say this fic is happening! so like, full success!!! 🥳💕

Benchmarks and soft commitments in the memorandum with the IMF

Ukraine launches competition for head of Bureau of Economic Security

The race for the new head of Ukraine’s Bureau of Economic Security is officially on. A draft law ensures transparent procedures of the competition and the decisive vote of independent international experts in the commission. The deadline for applications is Jan. 24, 2025. An International Monetary Fund-related deadline to appoint the new bureau head is the end of February.

Ukrainian government registers two draft laws to meet IMF commitments

On Dec. 30, Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers submitted two critical bills to Parliament, aiming to fulfill structural benchmarks outlined in the IMF program.

The first, draft law #12368, proposes the establishment of a Higher Administrative Court to replace the dissolved Kyiv District Administrative Court (OASK). The second, draft law #12367, seeks to repeal the controversial “Lozovyi amendments.” The texts of these bills have not yet been published on Parliament’s website.

While the deadline for their adoption under the IMF Memorandum is Dec. 31, it is widely expected that Ukrainian authorities will push for their adoption before the next IMF board meeting in February.

Tax and customs exemptions extended for defense-related imports

President Volodymyr Zelenksy has signed Laws #12266 and #12267, amending the Tax and Customs Codes to extend key exemptions into 2025. These include benefits for importing drones, components, and materials used in the production of ammunition and shells.

Ukraine advances OECD membership agenda with new anti-corruption laws

Zelensky has signed critical legislation to align Ukraine with OECD standards. Law #10319 introduces tax measures to combat bribery of foreign officials in international business, while Law #11443 adjusts corporate liability for corruption offenses to meet international benchmarks. These moves mark a significant stride in Ukraine’s journey toward OECD membership.

Shake-up in Ukraine’s economic institutions

On the last day of the year the Cabinet of Ministers made two personnel changes in Ukraine’s economic oversight bodies. Ruslan Kravchenko, former governor of Kyiv region, was appointed as a new head of the State Tax Service, while Filip Pronin, ex-governor of Poltava region, became the head of the State Financial Monitoring Service. Both were appointed without competition selection which is possible according to martial law. Both are said to have close ties to Andriy Yermak, head of the Presidential Office.

Ukrainians paid $24 billion in taxes in 2024, Finance Ministry reports

This comes a month after President Volodymyr Zelensky signed off on a major tax increase bill on Nov. 28 in a bid to plug Ukraine’s budget deficit.

The club now sits at 2-1-0-1 heading into the final weekend of October and will begin a three-game homestand on Friday night at the XL Center. Friday, October 18th, 2024, Vs. Springfield Thunderbirds (6-5 W): Grant Potulny picked up his first victory as the Head Coach of the Wolf Pack on Friday night in Round 1 of the ‘I-91 Rivalry’. A wild first period saw the Wolf Pack jump out to a 4-2 lead thanks to two goals from Brennan Othmann and Jaroslav Chmelař. Brandon Scanlin notched his first goal of the season 5:50 into the second period, the second goal of the season by a Wolf Pack defenseman. Brett Berard tallied his second goal of the season 10:47 into the third period, tucking in a wraparound to make it 6-4. That goal would stand as the eventual game-winning goal. Defenseman Connor Mackey picked up two assists in the win, while Chmelař (2 g, 1 a) and Berard (1 g, 2 a) each finished with three points. Chmelař’s performance marked his first career multi-goal and three-point performance. The win was the Wolf Pack’s third straight over the Thunderbirds, dating back to the 2023-24 campaign. Saturday, October 19th, 2024, Vs. Bridgeport Islanders (5-4 OT W): The Wolf Pack snapped a two-game losing streak in their head-to-head matchup with the Islanders on Saturday night thanks to a wild 5-4 overtime victory. Bo Groulx struck twice in the win, opening the scoring 14:13 into the game and then tying it 2-2 at the 12:26 mark of the second period. His second goal, a power play tally, came just 47 seconds after Wyatt Newpower gave the Islanders a 2-1 lead. Berard’s third goal of the season at 15:53 of the middle frame put the Wolf Pack ahead 3-2 heading into the third period, but the Islanders refused to go quietly. The visitors tied the game twice, eventually getting it to 4-4 at 17:48 of the third period on Fredrik Karlström’s second goal of the hockey game. Marc Gatcomb was assessed a boarding minor at 20:00 of the third period, giving the Wolf Pack a power play entering overtime. Following a timeout call, the Wolf Pack ended the game with their second power play goal of the night 1:38 into overtime when Berard blasted a shot from the right-wing circle. Sunday, October 20th, 2024, @ Bridgeport Islanders (4-0 L): The Wolf Pack suffered their season's first regulation loss on Sunday, getting shut out 4-0 by the Islanders. Brian Pinho’s shorthanded goal 6:59 into the second period broke the ice and was the eventual game-winning goal. The tally was Bridgeport’s second shorthanded goal of the season, while it was the first shorthanded goal allowed by the Wolf Pack. Alex Jefferies and Gatcomb also struck in the second period, with Gatcomb’s goal at 12:44 being the club’s third goal in 5:51. Jakub Skarek made 24 saves to collect his first shutout and victory this season. He also recorded his first career AHL assist. 02/16/2024 - I'm back.

The last time I was actively on Tumblr was 7 years ago. The last thing I posted ("reblogged") was on Nov. 25, 2016. I was 17 years old, a senior in high school. So much has happened since then.

Tumblr, to me, was a social media website that I would scroll through for hours, finding random aesthetic things to reblog. It would range from pretty pictures of flowers, nature, and beautiful places in the world to quotes from movies, tv shows, and books. I remember feeling like I was the wisest person in the world because I was absorbing so much knowledge and wisdom from scrolling through Tumblr. In other words, Tumblr was my shit.

Looking back, though, I also remember a part of me that found comfort in Tumblr. It was the space that helped me heal from my puppy dog love(s). I'm quite sad that I can't access my old account anymore (although the site is still up) because I want to read and see through the diary of my younger self. I know that there were parts of me that are stuck in the drafts, parts of me that are hidden between the vast sea of reblogged posts that I have up.

I want to access them and step into the shoes of my younger self.

Why? Because I want to reminise.

But why now? Because for the first time since my puppy dog love era, I am going through heartbreak again.

It's not that I wasn't involved with anyone since then. But I also know that I was not in love with them. Not even attached to them. Not even close to what I went through when I was a young teenager or just recently. I think there are parallels to what I experienced when I was younger to what I am experiencing now.

Maybe, I'll find wisdom from reading about what younger teenager me has thought about. Or, maybe, I'll just laugh about it and cringe.

But what I do know is that I want this space. I want to share my thoughts and things and life and everything that I am experiencing into this void.

I want to process and put it out there for someone to read - maybe a random stranger, or maybe me, an older version of me, 10 years down the line.

I don't know to what extent I will be using this platform. But I do know that right now, this is what I want. This is what I need.

Anyway, I am about to watch "One Day" on Netflix. They turned the novel and the movie into a series now. I remember I was also in my Tumblr era when I became so invested in that movie. For some reason, I have always been into story lines about two people who spend some time apart only for them to fall back inlove again. It's one of (if not my ultimate) favorite kind of trope. One Day, Love Rosie, and the Before Trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight).

It's funny how we humans may grow up and change in a span for seven years. But it's also funny how there are parts of us that won't change.

Here's to finding comfort in this platform again. Here's to hoping this heals some part of myself.
