maro am I wrong for liking (and wishing we had more of) the Futureshifted card layout?
No. Both it and the Planar Chaos alt frames have a bunch of fans.

Theme Deck Review Compendium: Future Sight “Future Shock”
Every since I learnt of the gimmick of this deck I've been annoyed about it. Not because it's not a good gimmick. (It isn't: it's just fine.) The issue is that they didn't fully commit. Why have a 100% Futureshifted theme and then just plonk in normal Time Spiral basics? It's absolutely nonsensical.
This is part of a series where I aggregate reviews and other information about an older preconstructed Magic: the Gathering deck. The idea is that anyone who is interested in finding content – be it contemporary or more recent – about it for whatever reason can use this as a jumping off point. Future Shock A deck with a theme of having different frames. Year: 2007 Sets: Time Spiral, Planar…

Sol Ring (Secret Lair Drop No. 1696, Illus. Lindsey Look)
This illustration is from the recent "Sheldon's Spellbook" Secret Lair Drop dedicated to the late Sheldon Menery (RIP). I like the relative subtlety of this piece. In most Sol Ring illustrations, the ring is front and center, with its power emphasized in an obvious manner. Here, it is still quite noticeable, but has more of a supporting role, guiding the writer to pen some (both literally and figuratively) powerful words. Is it a spell he's writing out? Or a magical letter?
The style of the illustration reminds me of one of my favourite settings shown on the "futureshifted" cards from back in 2007 - let's call it the "magical Victorian not!London" plane. Arcanum Wings, Patrician's Scorn, Street Wraith and maybe also Imperial Mask and Grave Scrabbler show this setting. There are also some other cards like Locket of Yesterdays or the Iconic Masters printing of Manakin that, while not being "futureshifted," fit this aesthetic very well.
I've been thinking about how this Victorian plane would look like if it was fully fleshed out. Gothic and Cosmic Horror are Innistrad's thing, and the next close match - Steampunk - has been done on Ravnica (with the Izzet) and Kaladesh. I suppose Magic still lacks a proper "gritty" steampunk plane, since Kaladesh is very neat- and clean-looking overall and the Izzet have a strong comedic element to them. However, looking at how there seems to be an enchantment theme to this plane (Arcanum Wings, Patrician's Scorn, Imperial Mask), I would probably steer closer to Gaslamp Fantasy, or maybe a mix of that and Steampunk.
Magical Victorian not!London could only be one part of the setting, with the rest of the plane drawing inspiration from other European countries. If not!London is centered in Blue, White, and Black, there could be a magical Celtic France region focused in White, Green and Red and a region of fragmented kingdoms based on various Germanic and Slavic people centered in Red, Green, and Black. I might do some more posts on this fan plane idea if I end up fleshing it out in the future.

Magic has done very few things to make me more angry than not re-use the futureshifted frame in TSR. Apparently in the just-announced Mystery Booster 2 they're gonna be putting cards that were never in the futureshifted frame into it?
Magic the Gathering Tip: The Future Sight card frame was fucking cool, actually.

Cornwall’s Random Card of the Day #388: Soulflayer
Tumblr media
Soulflayer is a rare from Fate Reforged, seen here in some commander thing.
This guy here is doing that normal Black “Get mechanics from the graveyard rare” thing. It works pretty intuitively from Delve.
So, a word about Delve: it was one of the keywords to be shown only on futureshifted cards in Future Sight. In Khans of Tarkir they brought it back as the U/B/G faction, the Sultai’s mechanic. A word about demons on Tarkir: originally in design there were going to be none, so Tombstalker, a demon card with delve from Future Sight, couldn’t be printed in that block. But then late in the game they changed it so there WERE demons on Tarkir. But they never thought to go back and put Tombstalker back in the block.

Love it when cards get futureshifted from reprint sets.
I’ve been liking this guy in my Varina list and I’m happy to get an aesthetic upgrade.

Happy Birthday me! Could I get some trivia on my favourite mechanic, Delirium? Thanks for all you do.
Delirium was us trying to approach threshold in a new way. We were looking for something that would make you build your deck differently, and Tarmogoyf (a futureshifted card from Future Sight) opened us up to the idea of caring about card types.
Happy Birthday!

Cornwall’s Random Card of the Day #193: Grinning Ignus
Tumblr media
Hope you like Storm!
Grinning Ignus is a common from Future Sight, seen here in its Time Spiral Remastered printing. In Time Spiral, the red/blue archetype for limited was the “one big turn” theme, including a bunch of Storm, which copies itself for each spell cast that turn. Grinning Ignus is here to up your storm counter, being a spell you can cast as much as you want for effectively 1 mana each.
Even though Storm was so broken they named a scale of how unlikely things are to see print after it, the “one big turn” u/r archetype was repeated in Strixhaven, and hey, it got reprinted there! Chalk up another reprint (first print?) of a futureshifted Future Sight card.

This amounts to a bit of "source: trust me bro" but it's from people I usually trust. MB2 is out in the wild already at GenCon and people have gotten things like futureshifted Command Tower and Counterspell. I've seen a picture of the Counterspell and if it's real it's sick as fuck.
