They run into each other at the supermarket poultry section. They're stuck in place, staring, until Maddie rests her hand on her stomach. Tommy's eyes flick down, then back at her. 

"Congrats."

"Thanks." 

Maddie's imagined the things she would say on Buck's behalf, but now they're gone. It's just her.

"Please, answer when he calls."

"Maddie, look at me," he says softly. "He can't want me."

She smiles. "He can handle you."

He flashes a smile, too. "I don't think I can handle him."

"Come over tonight. He's cooking." She grabs a pack of chicken tenders, then tears up suddenly. "You don't know what you can handle unless you stay."

Tommy's expression mirrors hers. "Yeah. I'll be there."
