Touchstarved LIs and Fanfiction AUs They Should Be In

Haven't been able to stop thinking about the people who said Ais is "always the tattoo artist in tattoo shop/flower shop AU". I don't even like tattoo shop/flower shop like that but it was such a correct thing to say and I have to acknowledge that. So here's that plus AUs I've seen that I think the LIs should be in.

Ais

Flower shop/tattoo shop, as mentioned. This one is TOO good. Come ON. Ais as the hot-ass owner of the local tattoo shop? Him listening to your idea for a tattoo and then smoothly and easily inking it into your skin and telling you you're good when you don't cry? I don't even need to explain this one. It makes sense in like every way.

NASCAR/Formula One AU. The idea of him getting out of that car sweaty as hell in the full racing suit after crushing a track record? Like, taking off the helmet and shaking his hair out and looking like he couldn't give less of a shit about winning first place? Yeah. I am not immune to vroom vroom

Mermaid AU but he's a bull shark or an octopus, not a fish. IDK if I want his claspers or his tentacles more, but either way he should be lurking in the briny deep and protecting me from the real ocean monsters and threatening to eat me even though he probably doesn't mean it, probably.

Vere

Magic/Witches AU. - C'monnnn, he's already so witchy! He's got the sleeves and everything. And yes I know TS already has magic in it, but you know what I mean. He, like, lives in the spooky forest and the people of the village are deathly afraid of him, but you need his magical help, so against the wishes of family and friends you seek him out. And he forces you through a series of dangerous illusions as a trial and, when you successfully pass them, finally agrees to help you for a price...

Royalty AU as either the capricious king of a powerful nation or that king's advisor, formal or informal (smart concubine). I've never seen Game of Thrones but that kind of castle politics, shadowy backstabbing shit seems right up his alley.

Modern AU as an artist: I already talked about this with Vere as an artist and game dev, but I think it'd be so funny if Vere was just sitting in a coffee shop (local, Starbucks is below him) trying to finish his commissions in peace because his roommate(s) are annoying and/or distracting. Honestly, Vere would also rock as a modern AU witch, like urban fantasy type.

Leander

Barista/Bartender AU. He's so extroverted and congenial I have to put him in a drink service AU. He definitely has a "time to mix drinks and save lives" type of work ethic behind the counter. He remembers regular customers and their drink orders, he is LIBERAL with discounts, and he leaves little notes to the people he thinks are cute.

Serial killer AU. I am so basic and even though I have no desire to watch or listen to true crime now, I was raised on the Investigation Discovery Channel and I've never lost that. Look at his fucking face. He's asking for it to be covered in blood. Even better if this is combined with the above AU and he's a sweet server by day and a ruthless murderer by night but he keeps the same wide, pleasant, and genuine smile on because both things are things he loves to do. Even BETTER if he has an obsession with one of his regulars and starts killing people around them in an attempt to get closer with them.

Theatre AU. Siiiighs. Yeah, I'm a theatre kid. And I just know this guy would be one of those actors who wants to be a mentor/older brother figure for any new troupe-members. He's walking you through all the vocal warmups. He's offering to help you run lines. He's driving you home after rehearsals. He is a triple threat, but he doesn't prefer musicals because he doesn't like singing in front of an audience (even though he's an amazing singer). And I just know props absolutely hates him because he keeps touching shit that isn't his.

Kuras

Hospital AU and Angels/Demons AU is too easy. Instead, I'm giving him the flower shop owner in flower shop/tattoo shop AU. Anyone here like KurAis? Anyways, I think it would be sweet to have him be the super-tall, kind but a little awkward and very knowledgeable owner of a flower shop. He probably enjoys crafting bouquets that have meaning in flower language. And yes, he knows about the nice meanings and the rude meanings, so you can get a "fuck you" bouquet from Kuras.

Detroit Become Human AU as an android. I barely remember D:BH but it was one of the first things that occurred to me when thinking about AUs for Kuras. Maybe because he'd be the kind of android who was like, "Don't worry, I'm not a real person, it's okay if I get shot repeatedly," and wouldn't understand why someone would be concerned about him anyways.

Elementary school teacher/single parent AU but I don't know if I want him to be the teacher or the parent. Do I want him to look after a group of children, making efforts to understand their silly little words and communicate with them so they learn and feel cared for? Or do I want him to be the struggling single parent who is so happy to see their child finally getting the attention they deserve outside the house? IDK, but I'd be happy either way.

Mhin

Superhero AU. They're kinda already halfway to superhero gear with the hood and the cape and the tight pants, but I think it be cool for them to dart from rooftop to rooftop, saving civilians and fighting crime. IDK if it'd be cooler if they were half-hero half-villain (controlled by their bird-monster side and wreaking havoc) or if it'd just be nice to have a crow hero motif. Anyway they save me and I'm a reporter who uses my reporter contacts to try and track them down not knowing they're actually my upstairs neighbor who I bring shepherd's pie and strawberry cupcakes to sometimes.

The other tattoo artist in tattoo shop/flower shop. You know how there's always some other character working in one or both of the shops? Ayeah that's Mhin. Number one, I think it'd be hot if they had tattoos. But even if they don't they're still hot when they give the tattoo because focus and skill are attractive. They're talented enough that Ais keeps them around even though they hate him. They never talk to him even though he's their boss. Over the course of the fic Mhin and Ais get closer b/c Kuras is friends with both of them and he wants them to like each other.

Angel/Demon AU as an angel because I want them to be corrupted :) I want them to be forced to submit to their own worst impulses :) and eventually realize that being evil makes them feel good and more importantly liberated and in control :) also maybe they can get wrecked by a demon please :)

Aaaand the DLC cast gets one as a treat!

Pacific Rim AU but PLEASE don't ask me why. I don't even REMEMBER Pacific Rim. But the clarity with which I could imagine Sen in a Pacific Rim AU is startling. She's gruff and she doesn't want to partner up with you, a rookie, but somehow you have perfect chemistry in the mech she doesn't want to acknowledge. She's too reckless out of disregard for her life, and you reel her in; you're inexperienced, and she fixes your mistakes. Then one day she starts to notice that she's guarding her own life more fiercely than ever before...because of you.

If that's not what Pacific Rim is about shhhh don't correct me /j

Easy answer is pornstar/industry AU or camming AU but I'll never take the easy way out. And I know we don't know shit about the guy but I think reincarnation AU would kinda hit with him. His promo talks about wanting things money can't buy? Like possibly the ability to save his soulmate from dying and forgetting him over and over while he retains the memories of every life they've both shared and lived separately, as friends, lovers, enemies, and strangers? That would go hard imo.

literally hodor’s death happens AFTER he is physically outside of the fucking cave!!! that’s the point, hodor is HOLDING THE DOOR OF THE CAVE CLOSED!!!!!!!

bran is very confused during this whole thing, but when he sees hodor fall to the ground he looks visibly distressed and even steps forward-

and when hodor starts “hold the door”-ing and it sinks in that bran is not only killing hodor, but that he is responsible for disabling hodor as a young man, bran pulls this heartbroken face-

the coldhands reveal ALSO happens after he leaves the fucking cave. he is communicating perfectly fine with meera throughout that whole conversation through only facial expressions (which he still has)-

the tower of joy

bran’s push to figure out who is in the tower…also happens after they leave that goddamn cave. meera explicitly stops him and asks if this is a good idea, and he pushes past her concerns, and you can see emotion on both their faces here-

to be honest i think THIS is the moment he starts his dissociating thing. not the stupid cave, but the first time he connects to the weirwood AFTER the cave. that’s a very important distinction that they never address or do anything with at all but I think they do it this stupidly bc THATS more the truth - it’s when he’s plugged in that he’s most vulnerable to being overtaken by…whatever it is he’s overtaken by. and that can happen anywhere, wherever it is he’s plugged into the weirwood, not just the cave!!!

maybe that seems like a silly distinction, but it IS one that gives me pause. i think it’s MORE tragic if what ultimately dooms bran is not a decision to become The Ultimate Hero - a fate which is notably very THRUST upon him, rather than one he willingly takes up. remember, he goes north because he thinks his disability can be magically cured. yeah everyone is talking about his great fate, but bran’s focus is ALWAYS a cure for his paralysis. all of this stuff about saving the world is secondary - but because he is desperate to see his father one more time. because that’s why he’s pushing this in the end, to see ned again.

the first time he does this, back in s6, where ned has heard bran’s voice on the wind, he is upset not because bloodraven might be lying about the extent of his powers, but because he has been denied the chance to talk to his dead father. and of course, at least in the show, the issue IS ultimately that bryden is either unaware or lying about the extent of bran’s powers. he tells bran that ned did not hear him (he clearly did) and that bran cannot interact with the past, only observe. and Yet.

bran is not doomed by his decision to become the next three eyed raven. but he DOES stop showing emotions after he pursues the tower of joy memory. and this is right about where we are in the books; this hinge moment where bran has been with bloodraven for Some Time But Not Enough Time, and bloodraven is still like, being shady as hell.

On the other side of my rewatch, first of all, since we’re never getting the winds of winter, i’m going to claim vindicated on the entire concept of bran the time traveling toddler. i’m not just doing a crazy theory for funsies. i’m dead serious. i think all those instances i laid out, and several others i didn’t add or forgot, ARE in fact an older Bran Communicating With The Past. I don’t think it’s a wild stretch, i think it’s a short hop. Especially when the “bran disabled hodor in the past” thing does seem to be a legit plot point from George, and like I said, we are imo at this hinge. The entire Hodor plot happens basically right after this equivalent moment in the books.

Lord Eddard Stark sat upon a rock beside the deep black pool in the godswood, the pale roots of the heart tree twisting around him like an old man's gnarled arms. The greatsword Ice lay across Lord Eddard's lap, and he was cleaning the blade with an oilcloth. "Winterfell," Bran whispered. His father looked up. "Who's there?" he asked, turning ... …and Bran, frightened, pulled away. His father and the black pool and the godswood faded and were gone and he was back in the cavern, the pale thick roots of his weirwood throne cradling his limbs as a mother does a child.

*hannibal voice* these scenes is the same.

But the resolution is a full book away, because even if I’m right and Bran is HAULING ASS out of that motherfracking cave pretty much right when we get into TWOW, I doubt we are going to get a conclusion to “Does Bran overcome the Hivemind” until ADOS, which is even MORE never coming out.

Now the fact that he seems - to me, his lawyer and legal guardian - to be not just calm but…upbeat? in the scenes I believe he’s talking to his family (the arya voice, the jon dream) makes me hopeful that whatever causes The Hivemind to attack is something Bran will overcome by the ending, but I’m not ruling out “Bran is completely possessed by the Hivemind very similar to Hodor being possessed by Bran, forever” ending simply bc well….we never get a resolution to this in the show. Feels bad scoob!

moving onto s7, which is more concretely post cave, and also all post that “you died in that cave” line from meera.

“i can never be lord of winterfell. i can never be lord of anything.”

debatable perhaps but he doesn’t just sound upset here, the dialogue seems to imply some level of grief over this. this is his face as he says the line, he doesn’t look blank to me, he looks defeated. and notice sansa before and after he says it - she’s not just confused, she’s concerned and really watching his body language.

“i’m sorry for what’s happened to you. i’m sorry it happened to you here, in our home. you were so beautiful that night. snow falling, just like now. and you were so beautiful.”

everyone drags him for this and i think they’re stupid. i’m not saying sansa is wrong for being freaked out and walking away - this whole conversation is unnerving from top to bottom. but bran is telling her that he’s sorry for everything she went through - that he loves her! - but he’s doing it badly because he’s experiencing fantasy psychosis for some unexplained reason (Brynden shows emotion!!!!!! SO WHERE DOES THIS COME FROM???). Bran is completely outside his body looking down, and when he looked down he saw his sister was raped in their home, in their father’s bed, and all he is capable of doing right now is telling her that he’s sorry, badly.

Chaos is a ladder / I did warn you not to trust me

he’s fairly blank faced when he says both of these lines but he says them both for the express purpose of unsettling littlefinger and getting him to shut the fuck up. it works, both times! maybe you can argue that’s a more calculated thing, but he’s being quite snarky when he does it.

jon’s return

Bran makes a joke when Jon shows up - “look at you! you’re a man!” “almost.” - and he spends the entire time smiling, however subtle the smile may be, it’s still there because jon doesn’t even notice anything is wrong until bran gives his “we don’t have time for this” spiel. once again, look at sansa - she smiles when she sees this interaction, in my opinion in part because it went so well, and bran actually emoted.

“You still would be [that person], if you hadn't pushed me out of that window. And I would still be Brandon Stark.” “You're not?” “No. I'm something else now…[*there’s a very unsubtle raven caw here*] I’m not angry at anyone.”

come on. he rolled his chair out there in the snow just to scare the shit out of jaime when he knows damn well he was always going to forgive jaime. that’s emotion! that’s snark! that’s pent up anger! I think he also sounds quite wistful when he says this as well, and that’s interesting when you take hand in hand with a scene I’ll discuss later, with Tyrion. But with both Lannister brothers, he hints at the idea that what has happened to him, to Bran Stark, is very sad.

“It brought you where you are now. Home… Theon. You’re a good man. Thank you.”

he sees theon crying, and he offers immediate forgiveness and comfort. Especially when you contrast it to what he says to Jaime, there’s positive emotion here. when Jaime starts defensively saying that he’s not that man any more, Bran basically compares Jaime’s journey to that of his own fantasy lobotomy. But when Theon stumbles over his words, Bran does what he did with Sansa - he reaches clumsily for that emotional connection but he does reach! Why? Because he loves Theon! (and doesn’t see Jaime as anything more than another sword).

“I don’t really want anymore…You shouldn’t envy me. Mostly I live in the past.”

This is his final little glimpse of emotion and it’s with Tyruun. Tyrion says he envies bean’s lack of emotion but Bran gently rebuffs this mindset - and we don’t see it but he proceeds to explain exactly what he means to Tyrion. I think this is interesting both because of the way their story starts with Tyrion giving Bran some good advice about Living Life As A Disabled Person and here, Bran is giving Tyrion some much needed context for Why It’s Bad To Want To Feel Nothing. A sort of mirror to Tyrion’s “life is full of possibilities.”

And what’s that? Bran is STILL showing emotion. It’s there, Bran Stark is always there. Bran is alive, but like he does to Hodor, he’s put in a box that he can only come out of in fleeting moments. That’s different and imo much worse and more tragic than what they say happens. Will it be permanent in the books? Again, we’re never getting them so I am simply choosing to believe he will be fine.

tldr bran shows LESS emotion after he connects to the weirwood hivemind NOT the cave, but he never actually stops showing emotion. there’s also very clear parallel scenes between the show events of ned hearing bran at the tower of joy -> brynden insists that’s not possible -> bran does the impossible and has to book it -> bran accidentally on purpose disables hodor in the past and kills him in the present, and the book events of ned hearing bran’s voice on the wind -> brynden insists that’s not possible -> [THE WINDS OF WINTER GOES HERE] -> probably, according to a few interviews but also it does just kind of track, bran accidentally on purpose disables hodor in the past and kills him in the present. all of that seems to imply that bran’s endgame “test” so to speak will involve him being taken over by the hivemind, in a parallel to what he does to hodor. also, fuck d&d, your honor i rest my case.

Octopath: Hardcore/ Enrichment Challenge.

After beating the first game twice (Except Galdera) I wanted to make my next playthrough a bit more challenging, so I made this rule set for both games! I don't know if anyone has done something similar this before but this is my take to make Octopath more challenging to the casual gamer. You can pick and chose these rules as much as you like!

NO mini map: This is something I do in my purely casual too. I find it more fun and immersive to look around yourself or relay on memory.

NO fast travel: This makes you strategize where to move next and your order of operations. Also the docks in OT2 cost money and this is hardly a feature once you cross the ocean once.

You must buy things from the shops OR steal off of people. If you chose the shops you are NOT ALLOWED to Steal, Mug, or Beg for anything unless it's impossible to progress otherwise (i.e Story segments, stubborn side quest, Guild quest, etc.). You are allowed to use the Purchase ability and MUST use it for side quest items whenever applicable. Someone in the party refuses to steal unless absolutely nessecary.

If you chose to steal you are NOT ALLOWED to buy or sell at ANY SHOPS. They have banned you; you're a thief. You also cannot use the purchase ability (Not that you were using it in the first place). I found items and money really easy to come buy because you could just steal everything not nailed down, sell it, and buy supplies in bulk. I wanted to make money/items scarce and something you would have to manage.

You can start out with any character you want but you MUST get the rest in OCTOPATH ORDER (Example: If you start off as Olberic you must get Primrose next, then Therion, etc. If you start as Temenos you must get Hikari, then Ochette, etc.) You cannot swap out the Os and Ts with each other. Octopath 1 order is clockwise, Octopath 2 order goes as follows, Ochette, Castti, Throne, Osvald, Partitio, Agnea, Temenos, Hikari.

Hey wasn't there a rule about octopath bosses here? There was! But then I tried it out and it was hell! Turns out Octo 1 scales on party members you've picked up, not in party. Crazy right? Anyway there is no special rule for o1 no matter how badly I want one

For Octopath 2, you can only AND MUST change the night/day manually when you spent a night at the inn. This includes story cutscenes UNLESS ABSOLUTLY IMPOSSIBLE (i.e you can't leave the aria.) This is one of the first rules I thought up. This is a challenge based on immersion and having to use the inn so often puts a pinch on your purse. or you could wait for the game to naturally change time.

That's it! The goal is to make it as far as you can/want to! For me that's everything except Galdera. As I said earlier, feel free to pick and chose the rules you want to use for your own challenge runs. If you do this challenge @ me! I wanna see people trying this!

I didn't see the Barbie movie yet because I got spoiled heavily to the point I know everything about the movie just because everybody else is chronically online.
