Giro d'Italia 2025 Fanwork Classification Results!
Tumblr media
The results are in at last- and the mods would like to thank everyone who participated in the 2025 Giro Fanworks Classification. Whether you created a fanwork, commented, betaed, or cheered everyone one it is a net positive for Cycling RPF as a whole. But we do have some winners of the classifications to congratulate.
First, the general classification and thus the maglia glitterata has been won by a substantial margin by those who chose to post anonymously this classification. While this means the jersey cannot be formally awarded to any individual in particular, it does mean that whoever wishes to post anonymously next Giro is thus helping to defend the jersey. Congratulations to however many authors were involved in this- it was an impressive GC campaign!
For the individual campaigns hoelywritingsx won the hilly (or AU) classification, legendofthefireemblem won the mountain  (or trope) classification and olympiaslover won the ITT (or challenge) classification. For the first of the gauntlets, Hyperspecific Week, the anonymous collective reigns supreme- perhaps another gauntlet will approach in the near future for people to try? Who knows! Nevertheless, congratulations to all our participants and we hope you all had a wonderful time! See you all soon for the Tour!
(admire the maglia glitterata below)

Announcing the Grand Tour 2025 Fanwork Classification Route Presentation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello, cycling fanwork creators!
As the road season starts up, peek ahead to the heat of summer, and the three Fanwork Classifications that await you!
As per usual, prewriting and precreation is strongly encouraged but you can only post works that will count towards each Classification during the time their respective collection is open! Three new glitter jerseys await the GC contenders.
In May, during our first Giro d'Italia Fanwork Classification a new challenge awaits- Hyperspecific Week, for which whoever has the most fills (and you can rig it in your favour in this challenge only with multiple fills per stage) across the six stages wins bragging rights as a versatile yet punchy creator.
July and August will bring the Tour and Vuelta respectively, both with slightly more themed offerings. This year, the Grand Tour Fanwork Collections are all 18+. We hope this will allow riders a greater selection of tropes, AUs, challenges and words to be inspired and vexed alike by. Due to feedback, this year we will be answering queries and questions only on Tumblr so they can easily be found- if you're concerned about asking a question, feel free to ask anonymously instead, especially if you have questions about a stage!
More information and posts will be released as the dates to each Grand Tour grows near- flex your creativity, riders! New goals lie ahead!

Stage 2: Remix a fic (with permission)!
Tumblr media
As the Giro is underway, the peleton faces a test of individual skill- a time trial stage. And over in the fanwork classification, you know that it means the competitors for the maglia glitterata face their first of two challenge stages. For this stage, competitors must remix a fic (with permission) to succeed! Remixing a fic has a long history in fandom, and will be an interesting challenge for our competitors.
The challenge is explained further along with a link to a more in depth explanation of remxing here. Good luck!

How the Classification is Scored
A brief explanation of how the GC, category classifications, and Hyperspecifc Week will work in the 2025 Giro d'Italia Fanworks Classification, for the competetive creator looking to get ahead of the competetion!
Eligible fanworks must either be posted to the ao3 collection, filling the prompt of its respective stage, or posted on tumblr mentioning us @wtfanworkclassification from when the collection opens to when it closes.
The GC of the fanwork classification is scored simply- whoever has completed the most stages when the collection closes, wins! If tiebreakers are needed, this goes down to if the creator has commented on other fanworks in the collection before the deadline, the amount of challenges they completed, and then their respective ranking in lower classifications. Once selected, the maglia glitterata is out of the running for all of the lesser classifications.
The category classifications rankings are done by the number of stages a creator has completed within them, with the highest not out of contention for already winning creator taking home their category classifications (with the same tiebreakers as above). There is one exception- if you are tied for one classification but sole winner in another, the mods will award you the one you’re the sole winner in.
Hyperspecific Week is different from all of the other category classifications in that, once all the prompts are completed, multiple submissions under one prompt by a creator count towards their ranking within Hyperspecific Week (although not for the overall GC). If you want to focus on a smaller set of prompts but don’t want to stick to one type of them like with the category classifications, Hyperspecific Week is for you!
A final reminder that you can submit fills for stages from when the collection opens, to when the collection closes- don’t feel like you have to submit in order, or on the day of the stage!
