Tour de France 2025 Fanwork Classification Masterpost
Tumblr media
As night falls on the Giro, the sun rises on the Tour! Welcome back to the second edition of the Tour de France Fanworks Classification, and we hope you're all ready for an exciting race ahead- both by the peloton and those who wish to create a fanwork for this event! The maillot scintillement, defended by @legendofthefireemblem is up for grabs for any GC hopefuls this year, along with the return of the category classifications for those seeking a more specialised challenge. Continuing on from the Giro, another gauntlet has emerged for those brave enough to challenge it- although this one seems to only count submissions for stages that are multiples of three. Whether creating, betaing, or cheering everyone on, the mod team wishes you all the best of luck for this Grand Tour!
Rules: As always, Tumblr submissions will be counted only within the timeframe of when the collection itself is open. We have also put in place a Code of Conduct- please read over it to know the behaviour expected of participants towards others!
Timeline: Collection opens: 3rd July 00:00 UTC Collection closes: 29th July 11:59 UTC Classification winners announced: 9th August (roughly)

Announcing the Grand Tour 2025 Fanwork Classification Route Presentation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello, cycling fanwork creators!
As the road season starts up, peek ahead to the heat of summer, and the three Fanwork Classifications that await you!
As per usual, prewriting and precreation is strongly encouraged but you can only post works that will count towards each Classification during the time their respective collection is open! Three new glitter jerseys await the GC contenders.
In May, during our first Giro d'Italia Fanwork Classification a new challenge awaits- Hyperspecific Week, for which whoever has the most fills (and you can rig it in your favour in this challenge only with multiple fills per stage) across the six stages wins bragging rights as a versatile yet punchy creator.
July and August will bring the Tour and Vuelta respectively, both with slightly more themed offerings. This year, the Grand Tour Fanwork Collections are all 18+. We hope this will allow riders a greater selection of tropes, AUs, challenges and words to be inspired and vexed alike by. Due to feedback, this year we will be answering queries and questions only on Tumblr so they can easily be found- if you're concerned about asking a question, feel free to ask anonymously instead, especially if you have questions about a stage!
More information and posts will be released as the dates to each Grand Tour grows near- flex your creativity, riders! New goals lie ahead!

Announcing the Tour de France Fanwork Classification 2024!
Tumblr media
This Tour, while watching your favourite cyclists, little and big guys alike, compete, compete yourself!
The Tour de France Fanwork Classification is an event that will run for the entirety of the 2024 Tour de France, with a different task for every day. Competitors can choose as many or as few stages to complete as they wish, but all works must be submitted by midnight GMT on July 22nd, the day after Stage 21 of the Tour. There is no minimum word count, and works can be either posted to the Ao3 Collection thorugh claiming the relevant stage here, or posted on here on Tumblr with this account tagged along with the stage it is for.
Aside from the ITT challenges, the prompts, AUs and tropes are the competitors to do with what they will. You can subvert, embrace and play with these tasks however you wish!
However, you are not called competitors lightly. For what is a classification without some sort of prize? While we at WTFC are far too cheap for a cash prize, we are proud to announce a new jersey up for competition- the soon to be very prestigious Imaginary Glitter Jersey- le maillot scintillement!
Tumblr media
The winner of the fanwork classification (which will be chosen base on who has completed the most tasks by the end of the deadline) will get this Prestigious JPEG as well as their profile picture with a sparkle filter poorly superimposed upon it, for bragging rights.
The people who complete the most tasks in each category will also win their category classification. Their prize will be a PNG of a silly hat to put on their profile picture, along with a glitter filter of their own, for bragging rights.
Feel free to ask us any questions- we'll build up FAQs as we go along but this post is just to let you know what's ahead! Further breakdowns of each category as well as a post for every stage to give you ideas to come!

Tour de France Fanwork Classification 2024 Results
The winner of le maillot scintillement, who unexpectedly managed to complete every stage as well as the rest day goals is @legendofthefireemblem who is officially the GC winner, who has been thus taken out of running for the category classifications as the Honourable Overall Winner. Congratulations!
Tumblr media
And now onto the category classifications! The category classification results are a bit complex- I’ve ranked everyone by how many stages they passed within that stage category- and if you completed both rest day goals, you’re ahead of people who completed the same number of stages! Because this is the first year, it’s a little haphazard so if you think I’ve missed any of your submissions please let me know! I’ve ranked these in order of number of stages- if you won a category classification with a higher number of stages you’re out of contention for the category classifications below it (mainly so more people can win, this may be tweaked for further iterations).
Category classifications winners:
The winner of the Flat Classification (which was single word prompts) was WhiteWeasel! Congratulations on your Accessory PNG!
Tumblr media
The winner of the Mountain Classification (which was trope prompts) was @leadouttrain (ao3) aka Mod Inky!
Tumblr media
The winners of the Hills Classification (which was AU prompts) were jointly @kingfisherprince (ao3) and @etapereine (ao3) Well done to you both! Enjoy your little hat!
Tumblr media
The winner of the ITT Classification (which were the challenges) was hoelywritingsx! Chapeau to you for persevering! And enjoy this chapeau!
Tumblr media
And finally, a warm round of applause for the three people who completed both of the rest day goals! Have some glasses to look like the distinguished members of the cycling fanwork community you are!
@thedeadparrot, @legendofthefireemblem and @indie-summer
Tumblr media
If anyone wants to know their ranking in the various classifications or just chat, feel free to contact this account or Mod Inky's account @leadouttrain (where I will happily go in Depth about top 3s and so on)
Thank you all so much for participating no matter what you did, from commenting to a full sweep! Cycling fandom doesn't exist without you all!
And if you're feeling bereft without a challenge in your life, stay tuned....
(You think that the glitter jersey only comes in yellow?)

Stage Twenty: Soulmates
Tumblr media
The final mountain stage lies ahead, and the GC contenders look to gain or defend precious minutes and seconds of time. For our competitors, it is the last non-challenge stage of this fanwork classification, as well as the final stage of the trope category classification. Racing alongside each other, riders can form connections deeper than many can understand. In this final trope, our competitors can explore these connections through looking at soulmates. Any form of soulbond, real, imagined, played straight or averted is allowed- the only limit is your own imagination! There is no minimum word count for this stage.

Stage Nineteen: Crack or Crack Treated Seriously
Tumblr media
The hills are behind us, and the Alps loom before the peloton once more. For our competitors for the maillot scintillement, a different challenge looms- that of humor! The trope for this stage of the fanwork classification is Crack, or Crack Treated Seriously. Make it funny, make it outrageous, make it sad, make it tragic- as long as the scenario could reasonably be described as crack, it doesn't matter how you treat it, it's worthy of completing this stage.
As always with tropes, our competitors are free to poke at, subvert or play it straight as they desire. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us! There is no minimum word count for this stage.

Rest Day: Comment Fest
Tumblr media
As the peloton has some much needed rest and relaxation, our competitors have a break from fanwork creation and the pursuit of the maillot scintillement.
However, this rest day has a goal to ensure our competitors don’t forget that we’re all in a community. If you have a chance, leave a comment on another competitor’s fanwork.
Despite not formally counting towards the maillot scintillement, the rest day goals have a classification of their own- where we can at the end of the Tour recognise the wonderful people who interact with all the fanworks our competitors dream up, and the recognition for each other. Don’t dismiss these goals- in the unlikely event of a tie on stages, the maillot scintillement will go to whoever is furthest ahead in the rest day classification.
As always, ask us if you have any questions and we hope this rest day gives you a chance to catch up on and appreciate your fellow competitors' fanworks (and maybe even get a head start for the stages ahead).

TDFFC 2025 Challenge Explanations
Stage 5: Write a fic with no dialogue.
For this challenge, write a fic with no direct dialogue or description of what someone says.
Stage 13: Create a fanwork in a media you don’t normally use.
For this challenge, make something in a different media than you usually use. If you write fics, try gifmaking. If you do webweaves, try making a physical collage. If you make digital fanart, try to knit! This challenge is all about going outside of your comfort zone and experimenting with types of fanworks you wouldn’t otherwise create, so have fun!
Feel free to send in an ask if you have any questions or need a clarification!

The Final Day: 24 Hours Remain
Tumblr media
Alas, while the peleton is sleeping off their celebrations from the end of the Tour only a few scant hours ago, the competition for the maillot scintillement rages onwards for one final day. This is the official warning that the Tour de France Fanwork Classification 2024 will be closed 24 hours from now.
I (Mod Inky) will be up until the deadline, so if you think you'll be off by an hour or so please contact me so we can work something out. The Ao3 collection will be closed at 11:59 GMT, and anything that mentions this account here after that date will not count towards your standings in the general and category classifications.
To all our competitors, good luck in finishing your final works! We're cheering you on!

Stage Twenty-One: Express Yourself Through Poetry.
Tumblr media
The final stage awaits the exhausted peleton, as does the podium in Nice! For our wonderful contenstants, this is a time to challenge themselves with something a little different than the usual stages in the fanwork classification. For the second and final time for this Tour, it is an Individual Time Trial, meaning that this in the race for the maillot scintillement, this is a challenge stage.
For this stage, competitors must express themselves through poetry. Whether this means creating a web weave, making a parody of an already extant song or poem, or creating poetry themselves, we will accept it all! We will not accept, however, attempts to get around this restriction through creating poetry-based meta or songfic. This challenge is for our competitors to try out unconventional formats that they wouldn't otherwise do! So get inspired and have fun!
Feel free to contact us on Tumblr or Discord if you have any questions or worries about if your fanwork will qualify for this stage! There is no minimum word count for this stage.
And thank you to all our wonderful competitors, whether you posted fanworks, commented or made rec lists, or simply cheered our competitors on! The creativity of the cycling fandom has been on full display here at the Tour, and the mods of the Tour de France Fanwork Classification 2024 would like to thank all of you for embracing this relatively rushed event wholeheartedly.
We will post a warning post when there is 24 hours to the end of the collection, but this post should go up 54 hours before the collection closes.

Stage Eighteen: Sci-Fi/Fantasy AU
Tumblr media
With a hilly stage, the peloton is uncertain about who will snap up the stage win. In the competition for the maillot scintillement, our competitors look to explore another alternate universe, in the last stage of the alternate universe category classification.
In this stage, there's all of space, time and imagination to explore! Competitors must create a fanwork for a science fiction or fantasy AU, in order to pass this stage. Whether dragons, politics, time machines, spaceships or swords, we're sure our competitors will find a way to vanquish the enemy within and produce good results! If you have any questions, reach out to us on Discord or Tumblr. There is no minimum word count for this stage.

Stage Seventeen: Fake Dating
Tumblr media
For this mountain stage, our wonderful competitors must vanquish a trope that never gets old: Fake Dating! In other words, the people in your fanwork decide that they should make everyone else believe they’re together. Feel free to play with or invert this trope if you wish- the only limit is your own creativity!
Feel free to contact us on Discord or on Tumblr! There is no minimum word count for this stage.

Stage Sixteen: Winner
Tumblr media
The final flat stage awaits, and the competitors for the green jersey as well as the sprinters hurtle themselves towards the finish for one last shot at glory. For this final stage in the word classification, the prompt is ‘winner’.
Whether infamous trope, celebration of victory, or a winner in another sense, any and all interpretations are up for grabs in this final sprint stage. And for our GC contenders, the maillot scintillement awaits! As usual, don’t hesitate to ask us if you have any questions. There is no minimum word count for this stage.

Stage Fifteen: Only One Bed
Tumblr media
It's another day in the mountains, and the threat of change in the GC (or not- these posts are being written ahead of time!) and the broom wagon for the sprinters looms large. For our competitors for our beloved maillot scintillement, who's wearing the maillot jaune at this point doesn't matter- only where he's sleeping! This trope, famous from screwball comedy, fanfiction and romance novels alike, is that there's only one bed for a pairing (or group).
Competitors should feel free to put their own spin on this classic trope, and avert it or play it straight as they wish! We're excited to see the results, and are around on Discord or Tumblr if you have any questions or just want to chat! There is no minimum word count for this stage.

Stage Fourteen: ___ Made Them Do It
Tumblr media
The mountains are upon the peleton, and riders are dropping like flies. Our competitors for the maillot scintillement, however, are approaching their stage in the trope classification in eleven days. This should be no surprise, but the riders face their spiciest challenge yet! Whatever is force coming together to make them do 'it', and what exactly 'it' is, is up to our dear competitors. It could be humorous, romantic, sensual, terrifying or just plain weird!
We await your creativity, and are available as always if you have any questions. There is no minimum word count for this stage.
