Streamlining Vendor Relationships with Automation in eCommerce
Tumblr media
Synopsis:
Do you know what the lifeline of eCommerce businesses is? eMarketer believes that 20.1% of retail shopping occurs through digital commerce solutions, while Forbes confirms the global eCommerce market is expected to total $6.3 trillion in 2024. Whether you need groceries, household products, electronics, or food, eCommerce is increasingly becoming a lifeline for urban and rural populations worldwide. But do you know what the lifeline of eCommerce businesses is?
This blog identifies the lifeline of eCommerce businesses, examines the role of vendor relationships and vendor management in eCommerce businesses, and explains how automation can streamline vendor relationships to optimize the supply chain, enhance operational efficiency, meet customers’ expectations, and expand revenue bottom line.
Vendor Management – An eCommerce Lifeline
Manufacturers who sell their products through eCommerce are not the only vendors that eCommerce businesses have. The logistics service providers, payment gateways, enterprise software solutions providers, and those who meet the smallest needs of the eCommerce businesses are all their vendors.
These vendors are a lifeline to eCommerce businesses and managing healthy relationships with vendors. These vendors ensure products reach customers on time. These vendors are instrumental in ensuring that the entire backend IT system functions at a peak. Efficient vendor management strategies are vital for eCommerce businesses for inventory management, order fulfillment, and keeping overhead expenses in check.
The Pain Points of Manual Vendor Management in eCommerce:
Anything manual is a bottleneck in the business world now. The demand for automation is increasing day by day across the sectors, more prominently in the eCommerce sector. The eCommerce sector heavily relies on manual processes, even though vendor management is one of the most critical aspects of the eCommerce business.
Due to manual vendor management, onboarding a new vendor is difficult and time-consuming. The communication gap between the eCommerce business and vendors could throw businesses out of gear. Notorious employees can compromise on compliance while onboarding vendors to invite penalties. Moreover, it becomes impossible to track vendor spending, which may incur financial losses. Therefore, the demand for automation for vendor management has been growing in leaps and bounds.
How Automation Can Revolutionize Your Vendor Relationships:
eCommerce has been one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. Therefore, managing vendor relations is one of the most critical aspects of driving success in the eCommerce industry. eCommerce businesses often struggle with regularly changing market demands, complicated procurement processes, and many vendors without AI ecommerce solutions.
Maintaining streamlined procurement processes and an efficient vendor management policy helps eCommerce save millions of dollars annually and expand its revenue base. Purchase invoice automation can transform vendor management for heightened accuracy and profitability. Key automation technologies used in eCommerce:
Purchase Invoice Automation (PIA):
Leveraging OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and machine learning, PIA solutions can automate the data extraction from purchase invoices, eliminating manual entry and reducing errors. This accelerates invoice processing and ensures timely payments, strengthening vendor relationships.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA):
RPA solutions can automate repetitive tasks like order confirmations, shipment tracking, and vendor communication, freeing up valuable resources for strategic initiatives. This streamlined approach enhances vendor relationships by improving response times and reducing communication gaps.
AI-driven Vendor Selection:
By harnessing the power of generative AI algorithms in eCommerce, businesses can analyze historical data, forecast demand, and identify optimal vendors based on performance metrics and pricing. This data-driven approach ensures a strategic vendor selection process, fostering long-term partnerships.
Predictive Analytics:
AI-powered predictive analytics can identify potential issues with vendor performance, stock shortages, or delivery delays, allowing businesses to proactively address challenges and maintain smooth operations. This proactive approach strengthens vendor relationships by minimizing disruptions.
Automated Vendor Negotiations:
AI-driven negotiation tools can automate the vendor negotiation process based on predefined parameters, ensuring optimal pricing and terms. This streamlines the negotiation process and fosters transparency and trust with vendors.
Benefits of automation for vendor relationships:
Increased Efficiency and Reduced Processing Time
Automating tasks like purchase order creation, invoice data entry, and order confirmations dramatically reduces processing time.
This accelerated pace allows for faster vendor payments, improving cash flow and strengthening relationships.
Improved Data Accuracy and Reduced Errors
Manual data entry is prone to human errors, leading to invoice discrepancies and delays.
Automation eliminates these errors, ensuring accurate data exchange with vendors and reducing costly disputes.
Enhanced Visibility into Vendor Performance
Automated systems provide real-time data and analytics on vendor metrics like on-time delivery, quality, and pricing.
This increased visibility allows for proactive management of vendor relationships and quick resolution of issues.
Streamlined Communication and Collaboration
Robotic process automation can handle routine vendor communications, reducing delays and miscommunication.
Centralized vendor portals and automated alerts improve collaboration and information sharing.
Scalability and Resource Optimization
As businesses grow, manual vendor management becomes increasingly difficult to scale.
Automation enables seamless scaling of vendor processes without adding excessive workforce.
AI eCommerce Solutions: The Future of Vendor Management:
The confluence of artificial intelligence and eCommerce is turning out to be a magic potion that will overhaul the entire vendor management system for online shopping businesses. eCommerce businesses are keen to harness the power of machine learning, automation, and advanced algorithms to optimize vendor management and enhance overall efficiency in delivering goods to doorsteps.
Growth is paramount in the eCommerce sector, and whichever technology enhances prospects is desirable. AI fills that gap diligently and meticulously.
One of the most transformative applications of AI in vendor management is intelligent vendor selection. Through predictive analytics and data-driven insights, AI algorithms can analyze historical performance metrics, forecast demand, and identify the optimal vendors based on pricing, quality, and delivery timelines. This strategic approach to vendor selection can significantly enhance procurement processes and drive cost savings.
Moreover, AI-driven automation can streamline routine tasks such as purchase order processing, invoice reconciliation, and vendor negotiations. Businesses can automate these repetitive yet crucial processes by leveraging AI eCommerce solutions, reducing errors, and freeing up valuable resources for more strategic initiatives. As the future of digital commerce unfolds, AI will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in transforming vendor management, enabling eCommerce businesses to forge more robust, more efficient relationships with their suppliers.
Implementing Automation for Streamlined Vendor Relationships:
Let’s delve into the realm of streamlined vendor relationships powered by AI and automation solutions. In the bustling eCommerce marketplace, where time is currency and precision paramount, automation emerges as the silent conductor orchestrating harmonious interactions between businesses and their vendors. Here’s how it transforms the stage:
Identify Automation Opportunities
The first step is to analyze your current vendor management workflows and pinpoint the tasks and processes that are repetitive, time-consuming, or prone to errors. These are prime candidates for automation. Common areas include purchase order creation, invoice processing, tracking, and routine vendor communications.
Evaluate and Select Automation Solutions
Conduct a thorough evaluation of available automation solutions in the market. Consider factors like integration with your existing systems (e.g., ERP, CRM), scalability, vendor support, and total cost of ownership. It’s also crucial to assess the solution’s ability to handle your specific industry requirements and data formats.
Data Integration and Standardization
Seamless data integration is essential for successful automation implementation. Ensure that your data sources (e.g., vendor databases, invoices, purchase orders) are consistent, standardized, and compatible with the automation solution. It may involve data cleansing, format conversions, or implementing data governance processes.
Pilot Testing and Refinement
Before a full-scale rollout, conduct pilot testing of the automation solution with a subset of your vendor relationships. It allows you to identify and address potential issues, refine the processes, and ensure smooth integration with your existing systems. Continuously gather feedback and make necessary adjustments.
Training and Change Management
Implementing automation usually requires a cultural shift within the organization. Provide comprehensive training to your staff on the new processes and tools. Highlight the benefits of automation, such as reduced manual workloads and opportunities for upskilling, to address any concerns about job security or resistance to change.
By following these steps and working with experienced automation solutions partners, you can successfully implement automation solutions to streamline vendor relationships, improve operational efficiency, and gain a competitive advantage in the digital marketplace.

The Trump administration’s Federal Trade Commission has removed four years’ worth of business guidance blogs as of Tuesday morning, including important consumer protection information related to artificial intelligence and the agency’s landmark privacy lawsuits under former chair Lina Khan against companies like Amazon and Microsoft. More than 300 blogs were removed.
On the FTC’s website, the page hosting all of the agency’s business-related blogs and guidance no longer includes any information published during former president Joe Biden’s administration, current and former FTC employees, who spoke under anonymity for fear of retaliation, tell WIRED. These blogs contained advice from the FTC on how big tech companies could avoid violating consumer protection laws.
One now deleted blog, titled “Hey, Alexa! What are you doing with my data?” explains how, according to two FTC complaints, Amazon and its Ring security camera products allegedly leveraged sensitive consumer data to train the ecommerce giant’s algorithms. (Amazon disagreed with the FTC’s claims.) It also provided guidance for companies operating similar products and services. Another post titled “$20 million FTC settlement addresses Microsoft Xbox illegal collection of kids’ data: A game changer for COPPA compliance” instructs tech companies on how to abide by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act by using the 2023 Microsoft settlement as an example. The settlement followed allegations by the FTC that Microsoft obtained data from children using Xbox systems without the consent of their parents or guardians.
“In terms of the message to industry on what our compliance expectations were, which is in some ways the most important part of enforcement action, they are trying to just erase those from history,” a source familiar tells WIRED.
Another removed FTC blog titled “The Luring Test: AI and the engineering of consumer trust” outlines how businesses could avoid creating chatbots that violate the FTC Act’s rules against unfair or deceptive products. This blog won an award in 2023 for “excellent descriptions of artificial intelligence.”
The Trump administration has received broad support from the tech industry. Big tech companies like Amazon and Meta, as well as tech entrepreneurs like OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, all donated to Trump’s inauguration fund. Other Silicon Valley leaders, like Elon Musk and David Sacks, are officially advising the administration. Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employs technologists sourced from Musk’s tech companies. And already, federal agencies like the General Services Administration have started to roll out AI products like GSAi, a general-purpose government chatbot.
The FTC did not immediately respond to a request for comment from WIRED.
Removing blogs raises serious compliance concerns under the Federal Records Act and the Open Government Data Act, one former FTC official tells WIRED. During the Biden administration, FTC leadership would place “warning” labels above previous administrations’ public decisions it no longer agreed with, the source said, fearing that removal would violate the law.
Since President Donald Trump designated Andrew Ferguson to replace Khan as FTC chair in January, the Republican regulator has vowed to leverage his authority to go after big tech companies. Unlike Khan, however, Ferguson’s criticisms center around the Republican party’s long-standing allegations that social media platforms, like Facebook and Instagram, censor conservative speech online. Before being selected as chair, Ferguson told Trump that his vision for the agency also included rolling back Biden-era regulations on artificial intelligence and tougher merger standards, The New York Times reported in December.
In an interview with CNBC last week, Ferguson argued that content moderation could equate to an antitrust violation. “If companies are degrading their product quality by kicking people off because they hold particular views, that could be an indication that there's a competition problem,” he said.
Sources speaking with WIRED on Tuesday claimed that tech companies are the only groups who benefit from the removal of these blogs.
“They are talking a big game on censorship. But at the end of the day, the thing that really hits these companies’ bottom line is what data they can collect, how they can use that data, whether they can train their AI models on that data, and if this administration is planning to take the foot off the gas there while stepping up its work on censorship,” the source familiar alleges. “I think that's a change big tech would be very happy with.”

RECENT SEO & MARKETING NEWS FOR ECOMMERCE, JUNE 2024
Tumblr media
You know the drill - here's all the marketing, SEO, social media etc. news for the last month. You can see the Etsy and other ecommerce news here.
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
As of July 5th, sites that cannot be read on mobile will no longer be indexed by Google. This has been coming for a long time, and we’ve all had plenty of warning, so it is unlikely to affect many ecommerce sites.
One final reminder that you need to save your old Google Universal Analytics data before July 1, as it will vanish on that date. There are several ways to do this. [Even if you never upgraded to Google Analytics 4, the old stats will still be going away, so don't miss out on saving the important stuff!]
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
If you are interested in deep dives into the recent Google leak, Aleyda Solis has compiled a Google spreadsheet (ironically), of articles on the topic, along with resources.
It appears that Google’s AI Overviews are so bad that they are now only showing up for 15% of queries, down from 84%.
Google’s latest spam update started June 20th.
This case study on Google’s March core update looks at the hazards of having high-ranking but irrelevant content on your website.
Another recent study looking at the effect of various Google updates found that some losing sites may have been trying to game SEO a little too much in Google’s eyes.
Out-of-date content can hurt SEO, but there are proven tactics for dealing with those pages.
If you missed any Google news last month - and there was a lot of it! - Barry Schwartz summarized May for you.
SOCIAL MEDIA - All Aspects, By Site
General
Artists concerned about AI tools training on their items are joining Cara in droves, and many are hoping to leave Meta properties at the same time. Cara allows users to add Glaze to their images, which disrupts AI training.
True federated social sites are getting closer, with an app that lets Mastodon users and Bluesky users connect without joining the other site. Confused about how federation works? This TechCrunch article goes through all of the current details, and highlights some of the biggest federated sites, including Mastodon, Threads, and Bluesky.
Facebook (includes relevant general news from Meta)
Meta will stop using users’ personal posts and information to train its AI models in the EU, due to privacy concerns.
Turns out that using AI to detect use of AI is just as flawed as most applications of AI - ask Meta, which is inaccurately claiming some real photos were “Made with AI”.
Facebook thinks it is for young people again. Yes, really. Among other areas, “Facebook Dating is continuing to see steady and strong daily active user growth, and is up +20% year-over-year with young adults in the United States and Canada.”
Here’s a decent overview of various types of Meta ads; it is written by Wix, but has some useful points for any advertiser.
Instagram
The head of Instagram divulged some tips on the algorithm recently, including the fact that video gets more views than photos these days.
Some video ads on Instagram can’t be skipped right now, but it is only a test.
Apparently Instagram’s Notes feature is quite popular with teens, so the platform is adding more to it. This includes mentions and likes.
LinkedIn
If you want a full sized image in posts with links, you will need to pay for LinkedIn Ads from now on. Regular posts with links now have downsized images. If you don’t know anything about LinkedIn Ads, here’s how they work.
LinkedIn Ads can no longer use data from LinkedIn Groups to target people in Europe.
Pinterest
Pinterest is now working with Shopify for its “Pinterest Inclusion Fund” which helps underrepresented groups use Pinterest to boost their businesses.
Reddit
Reddit’s traffic is said to be up 39% this year, increasing interest in using it for marketing. It is also making people worry about bad information.
Reddit has changed its conversation ads.
Snapchat
Snapchat now has increased safety features, including improved blocking abilities.
“Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, has agreed to pay $15 million to settle a gender discrimination lawsuit from the California Civil Rights Department...Snap paid women less and offered them fewer promotions when compared to male employees.”
Threads
Threads has expanded the ability to post to other federated social sites.
TikTok
TikTok has combined a lot of its Creator Center tools into one dashboard called TikTok Studio.
Klaviyo now integrates with Tiktok, so advertisers can find their known audiences and personalize ads.
Twitter
Hootsuite has updated its guide to Twitter ads, which is quite detailed.
(CONTENT) MARKETING (includes blogging, emails, and strategies)
July content marketing ideas include International Joke Day (July 1). [I can’t decide if I am insulted or not that it is the same day as Canada Day.]
Patreon has announced several upcoming changes to their creator tools, including the ability to give away paid memberships to fans at no charge, opening chat to free members, and a countdown clock for big posts.
ONLINE ADVERTISING (EXCEPT INDIVIDUAL SOCIAL MEDIA AND ECOMMERCE SITES)
Microsoft’s smart shopping campaigns will become “Performance Max” in the near future, although you can also make that change yourself now.
Brave now has Search Ads in some areas, after testing them for a year and a half.
Websites that offer coupon codes and use Google’s free shopping ads can sign up to have the codes displayed in Google's organic search listings. You can get all of the details here.
STATS, DATA, TRACKING
If you use Google Shopping Ads (free or paid) for your website, you can now see their performance in Google Images by using the Google Search Console.
Google Analytics 4 has an updated Realtime report now.
BUSINESS & CONSUMER TRENDS, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Price cutting (as opposed to sales and discounts) is the latest retail trend. “[C]onsumer spending on goods fell 0.2% during [April]”, while US prices were up 2.7%.
US consumers are still buying some types of “hot” items, such as clothing, but they are spending less on electronics and homewares.
UK ecommerce sales to the EU have dropped £5.9 billion since Brexit.
IMAGES, VIDEO, GRAPHIC DESIGN, & FREE ONLINE TOOLS
Adobe confirms it will not use its customers’ content to train AI.
A list of 19 new design tools, including free fonts. [Note: some of the tools use AI.] And here are even more free font libraries and resources.

Tumblr media
●    Understanding Next-Gen Personalization:
The incorporation of personalization has consistently proven to be a pivotal determinant of success in the realm of electronic commerce. Customising product recommendations, offers, and content to align with the unique preferences of individual customers has the potential to greatly augment user engagement and stimulate sales. Nevertheless, the conventional method of customising frequently depended on segmented data and pre-established criteria, constraining its efficacy and precision.
The notion of next-generation personalization has been significantly enhanced by the utilisation of AI to analyse extensive quantities of data, encompassing browsing history, buying patterns, demographic information, and even real-time interactions. The AI algorithms process a vast amount of information in order to obtain a comprehensive understanding of individual customers' preferences, intentions, and behaviours. The extent of comprehension attained allows eCommerce platforms to provide exceedingly pertinent and timely suggestions, thereby establishing a shopping encounter that imparts a sense of personalization to individual users.
●    AI's Role in Next-Gen Personalization:
The efficacy of future-generation customization relies on AI's capacity to effectively process and analyse intricate datasets. ML (ML) algorithms are crucial in the identification of patterns and trends within data, hence facilitating accurate predictions and suggestions by the system. Natural Language Processing (NLP) plays a crucial role in augmenting the user experience by facilitating chatbots and virtual assistants to comprehend and address client enquiries in a manner that closely resembles human interaction.
The recommendation system is an exemplary utilisation of AI within the realm of eCommerce. AI algorithms have the capability to examine a user's historical records of purchases, patterns of online surfing, and activities on social media platforms in order to provide recommendations for products that are in line with their individual interests. This not only contributes to increased sales but also promotes consumer happiness by streamlining the process of product selection and minimising the inconvenience of sorting through useless items. Stay ahead in the digital landscape with Nivida Web Solutions - a trusted eCommerce development company in Gujarat!
●    Enhanced Customer Experience:
The advancement of personalisation in the next generation extends beyond just product recommendations. AI-driven eCommerce platforms have the capability to generate customised purchasing experiences throughout the whole customer journey. Consider a hypothetical situation in which a customer is promptly welcomed by a virtual shopping assistant upon accessing the website. This AI-powered virtual assistant facilitates the customer's shopping experience by offering guidance, assisting in product selection, providing immediate support, and offering recommendations for complementary items.
Furthermore, the implementation of AI-driven personalisation has the potential to be applied to interactions that occur after a purchase has been made. The implementation of personalised order updates, recommendations for related products, and bespoke content have the potential to cultivate a sense of loyalty and sustain client engagement beyond the point of purchase.
●    Data Privacy and Ethics:
The advantages of next-generation customization are indisputable; yet, it is imperative to acknowledge and confront apprehensions pertaining to data privacy and ethical considerations. The need for transparency and security in retaining user data becomes increasingly significant as AI systems collect and analyse extensive quantities of information. It is imperative for businesses to adopt comprehensive data protection protocols, acquire appropriate user consent, and guarantee the ethical and impartial decision-making of AI algorithms.
Final Thoughts:
The incorporation of AI-powered next-generation customization has emerged as a significant development in the quickly expanding eCommerce market. The utilisation of AI to comprehend, anticipate, and accommodate unique client preferences is fundamentally transforming the manner in which businesses interact with their target demographic. AI is significantly enhancing the eCommerce experience by providing precise product recommendations and tailoring shopping trips to individual users. This advancement is propelling the eCommerce experience to unprecedented levels.
As the advancement of this technology progresses, enterprises that use AI-driven eCommerce development are poised to attain a competitive advantage in attracting client interest, facilitating transactions, and cultivating enduring loyalty. Nevertheless, it is of utmost importance to proceed cautiously, prioritising the preservation of data privacy and ethical issues throughout this process of transition. Facebook & Meta Ads Agency in India: How to Choose the Right Partner for High-Performance Campaigns
In today’s fast-paced digital world, where users spend hours scrolling through social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram remain two of the most powerful advertising channels. But with growing competition, simply boosting a post is no longer enough. To truly see results, businesses need to partner with a professional Meta ads agency or a dedicated Facebook ads agency that understands how to build, scale, and optimize high-converting campaigns.
Tumblr media
Whether you're running an eCommerce store, a B2B service, or a local brand, choosing the right Facebook marketing agency can make a significant difference in ROI, lead quality, and brand visibility.
Why You Need a Facebook Ads Agency in 2025
Facebook Ads have become more advanced than ever. With AI-driven targeting, pixel-based remarketing, and creative testing tools, brands that leverage the full potential of Meta’s advertising ecosystem often outperform their competitors.
A top-performing Facebook ad agency brings:
Deep understanding of Meta’s ad platform and algorithm changes
Custom campaign strategies for different funnel stages
Performance tracking using Meta Pixel and offline conversions
Regular A/B testing to improve ad performance
Scalable strategies for eCommerce, lead generation, and app installs
Partnering with an experienced Meta ad agency allows your brand to avoid guesswork and focus on measurable growth.
What to Expect from a Facebook Ads Marketing Agency
A results-oriented Facebook ads marketing agency offers more than just ad setup. They become your growth partner, offering:
Market research and competitive analysis
Custom ad creatives for different audience segments
Retargeting campaigns to capture warm audiences
Lookalike audience strategy for cold traffic
Campaign audits and real-time optimization
Transparent performance reports and ROI tracking
Whether you're just starting or looking to scale your campaigns, the right Facebook ads company will align your goals with a data-driven strategy.
Facebook Ads Services Tailored for Indian Businesses
If you're operating in India, it's important to work with a Facebook ads company that understands local market behavior, audience preferences, and language diversity.
Some India-specific Facebook ads services to look for:
Multilingual ad copy (Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, etc.)
Geo-targeted campaigns (city or state-based targeting)
Festival and season-specific promotions
WhatsApp integration for lead generation
Regional influencer collaborations through ad partnerships
Also, ask your agency if they provide access to a Facebook agency ad account in India—these accounts often come with higher spending limits, faster support from Meta, and priority ad approval.
Choosing the Right Meta Ads Agency
Here’s what to look for in a professional Meta ad agency:
Experience with your industry – Every niche behaves differently on Meta platforms.
Creative-first approach – Attention-grabbing visuals and copy are crucial for success.
Pixel and event tracking expertise – The agency should know how to capture accurate data for retargeting and optimization.
Performance-based mindset – Look for case studies, ROI numbers, and transparency in reporting.
Meta Business Partner status – Preferred agencies often have better support from Facebook and faster troubleshooting.
Who Should Hire a Facebook Ads Company?
If any of the following apply, it’s time to hire a Facebook ads service provider:
You’ve tried running ads yourself but struggled with results
Your in-house team lacks expertise in Meta’s evolving ad tools
You want to scale your brand nationally or internationally
You’re looking to improve your cost-per-lead or ROAS
You need strategic guidance on creatives, audiences, and ad objectives
A top Facebook marketing agency can help streamline your strategy and build a scalable acquisition funnel.
Final Thoughts
In a market flooded with noise, your ability to run effective ad campaigns on Facebook and Instagram can set your brand apart. But success doesn’t come by chance—it comes from expertise, testing, optimization, and the right strategy. That’s where a skilled Facebook ads agency or Meta ad agency plays a critical role.
From advanced targeting to creative testing, these agencies understand the nuances of Meta advertising and help businesses grow faster, smarter, and more profitably.
If you’re ready to take your campaigns to the next level, now is the time to explore professional Facebook ads services tailored for your goals.

In 2023, the fast-fashion giant Shein was everywhere. Crisscrossing the globe, airplanes ferried small packages of its ultra-cheap clothing from thousands of suppliers to tens of millions of customer mailboxes in 150 countries. Influencers’ “#sheinhaul” videos advertised the company’s trendy styles on social media, garnering billions of views.
At every step, data was created, collected, and analyzed. To manage all this information, the fast fashion industry has begun embracing emerging AI technologies. Shein uses proprietary machine-learning applications — essentially, pattern-identification algorithms — to measure customer preferences in real time and predict demand, which it then services with an ultra-fast supply chain.
As AI makes the business of churning out affordable, on-trend clothing faster than ever, Shein is among the brands under increasing pressure to become more sustainable, too. The company has pledged to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 25 percent by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions no later than 2050.
But climate advocates and researchers say the company’s lightning-fast manufacturing practices and online-only business model are inherently emissions-heavy — and that the use of AI software to catalyze these operations could be cranking up its emissions. Those concerns were amplified by Shein’s third annual sustainability report, released late last month, which showed the company nearly doubled its carbon dioxide emissions between 2022 and 2023.
“AI enables fast fashion to become the ultra-fast fashion industry, Shein and Temu being the fore-leaders of this,” said Sage Lenier, the executive director of Sustainable and Just Future, a climate nonprofit. “They quite literally could not exist without AI.” (Temu is a rapidly rising ecommerce titan, with a marketplace of goods that rival Shein’s in variety, price, and sales.)
In the 12 years since Shein was founded, it has become known for its uniquely prolific manufacturing, which reportedly generated over $30 billion of revenue for the company in 2023. Although estimates vary, a new Shein design may take as little as 10 days to become a garment, and up to 10,000 items are added to the site each day. The company reportedly offers as many as 600,000 items for sale at any given time with an average price tag of roughly $10. (Shein declined to confirm or deny these reported numbers.) One market analysis found that 44 percent of Gen Zers in the United States buy at least one item from Shein every month.
That scale translates into massive environmental impacts. According to the company’s sustainability report, Shein emitted 16.7 million total metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2023 — more than what four coal power plants spew out in a year. The company has also come under fire for textile waste, high levels of microplastic pollution, and exploitative labor practices. According to the report, polyester — a synthetic textile known for shedding microplastics into the environment — makes up 76 percent of its total fabrics, and only 6 percent of that polyester is recycled.
And a recent investigation found that factory workers at Shein suppliers regularly work 75-hour weeks, over a year after the company pledged to improve working conditions within its supply chain. Although Shein’s sustainability report indicates that labor conditions are improving, it also shows that in third-party audits of over 3,000 suppliers and subcontractors, 71 percent received a score of C or lower on the company’s grade scale of A to E — mediocre at best.
Machine learning plays an important role in Shein’s business model. Although Peter Pernot-Day, Shein’s head of global strategy and corporate affairs, told Business Insider last August that AI was not central to its operations, he indicated otherwise during a presentation at a retail conference at the beginning of this year.
“We are using machine-learning technologies to accurately predict demand in a way that we think is cutting edge,” he said. Pernot-Day told the audience that all of Shein’s 5,400 suppliers have access to an AI software platform that gives them updates on customer preferences, and they change what they’re producing to match it in real time.
“This means we can produce very few copies of each garment,” he said. “It means we waste very little and have very little inventory waste.” On average, the company says it stocks between 100 to 200 copies of each item — a stark contrast with more conventional fast-fashion brands, which typically produce thousands of each item per season, and try to anticipate trends months in advance. Shein calls its model “on-demand,” while a technology analyst who spoke to Vox in 2021 called it “real-time” retail.
At the conference, Pernot-Day also indicated that the technology helps the company pick up on “micro trends” that customers want to wear. “We can detect that, and we can act on that in a way that I think we’ve really pioneered,” he said. A designer who filed a recent class action lawsuit in a New York District Court alleges that the company’s AI market analysis tools are used in an “industrial-scale scheme of systematic, digital copyright infringement of the work of small designers and artists,” that scrapes designs off the internet and sends them directly to factories for production.
In an emailed statement to Grist, a Shein spokesperson reiterated Peter Pernot-Day’s assertion that technology allows the company to reduce waste and increase efficiency and suggested that the company’s increased emissions in 2023 were attributable to booming business. “We do not see growth as antithetical to sustainability,” the spokesperson said.
An analysis of Shein’s sustainability report by the Business of Fashion, a trade publication, found that last year, the company’s emissions rose at almost double the rate of its revenue — making Shein the highest-emitting company in the fashion industry. By comparison, Zara’s emissions rose half as much as its revenue. For other industry titans, such as H&M and Nike, sales grew while emissions fell from the year before.
Shein’s emissions are especially high because of its reliance on air shipping, said Sheng Lu, a professor of fashion and apparel studies at the University of Delaware. “AI has wide applications in the fashion industry. It’s not necessarily that AI is bad,” Lu said. “The problem is the essence of Shein’s particular business model.”
Other major brands ship items overseas in bulk, prefer ocean shipping for its lower cost, and have suppliers and warehouses in a large number of countries, which cuts down on the distances that items need to travel to consumers.
According to the company’s sustainability report, 38 percent of Shein’s climate footprint comes from transportation between its facilities and to customers, and another 61 percent come from other parts of its supply chain. Although the company is based in Singapore and has suppliers in a handful of countries, the majority of its garments are produced in China and are mailed out by air in individually addressed packages to customers. In July, the company sent about 900,000 of these to the US every day.
Shein’s spokesperson told Grist that the company is developing a decarbonization road map to address the footprint of its supply chain. Recently, the company has increased the amount of inventory it stores in US warehouses, allowing it to offer American customers quicker delivery times, and increased its use of cargo ships, which are more carbon-efficient than cargo planes.
“Controlling the carbon emissions in the fashion industry is a really complex process,” Lu said, adding that many brands use AI to make their operations more efficient. “It really depends on how you use AI.”
There is research that indicates using certain AI technologies could help companies become more sustainable. “It’s the missing piece,” said Shahriar Akter, an associate dean of business and law at the University of Wollongong in Australia. In May, Akter and his colleagues published a study finding that when fast-fashion suppliers used AI data management software to comply with big brands’ sustainability goals, those companies were more profitable and emitted less. A key use of this technology, Atker says, is to closely monitor environmental impacts, such as pollution and emissions. “This kind of tracking was not available before AI-based tools,” he said.
Shein told Grist it does not use machine-learning data management software to track emissions, which is one of the uses of AI included in Akter’s study. But the company’s much-touted usage of machine-learning software to predict demand and reduce waste is another of the uses of AI included in the research.
Regardless, the company has a long way to go before meeting its goals. Grist calculated that the emissions Shein reportedly saved in 2023 — with measures such as providing its suppliers with solar panels and opting for ocean shipping — amounted to about 3 percent of the company’s total carbon emissions for the year.
Lenier, from Sustainable and Just Future, believes there is no ethical use of AI in the fast-fashion industry. She said that the largely unregulated technology allows brands to intensify their harmful impacts on workers and the environment. “The folks who work in fast-fashion factories are now under an incredible amount of pressure to turn out even more, even faster,” she said.
Lenier and Lu both believe that the key to a more sustainable fashion industry is convincing customers to buy less. Lu said if companies use AI to boost their sales without changing their unsustainable practices, their climate footprints will also grow accordingly. “It’s the overall effect of being able to offer more market-popular items and encourage consumers to purchase more than in the past,” he said. “Of course, the overall carbon impact will be higher.”

RECENT SEO & MARKETING NEWS FOR ECOMMERCE, MAY 2024
Tumblr media
As promised, here are the important news stories from marketing recently: SEO, social media, advertising, and more.
If you want to get this news twice-weekly instead of just once a month, become a paying member of my Patreon: patreon.com/CindyLouWho2
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
In the biggest SEO news perhaps ever, a massive list of Google ranking elements was leaked this week. Here’s an overview, including links to the two main leak announcements and their analysis. It would seem that Google wasn’t always honest when they told us some algorithm elements did or did not exist. Google took nearly 2 days to speak publicly about it, but didn’t say much. Expect a lot more analysis in the coming weeks.
Instagram is updating its algorithm to favour original creators and smaller accounts, and remove reposted content from recommendations. “This won’t affect “a set of publishers” identified by Instagram with licensing agreements or resharing permissions from content creators, according to the blog post.”
Google is adding AI Overviews to US search immediately, with other countries to follow in the future. "AI Overviews gives answers to queries using generative AI technology powered by Google Gemini. It provides a few snippets of an answer based on its understanding of queries and the content it found on the topic across the web.” Right now, it is only affecting a small number of queries, however. While these will sometimes cover similar topics to featured snippets, the latter still exist. Early testing indicates that it does not currently show up when a search appears to be about buying something. Which is good, because you can’t turn it off, other than filtering your search to “Web” after doing it.  Oh, and Google did not waste time figuring out how to include advertising in the AI overviews - it took just one week. As with most much-heralded AI launches, AI Overviews are fumbling badly; here’s a summary of the many news articles mocking Google, including for recommending people glue cheese onto their pizza so it stays in place.
Chrome has yet again announced that it will not end the use of tracking cookies on schedule; the new target date for starting to wind down their use is early 2025.
Reminder that your old Google Analytics files (aka Universal Analytics) will no longer be available after July 1, so download them now! “...consider archiving back to 2018 or so to ensure you have pre-pandemic data since the pandemic really presented data anomalies for many companies.” There is a spreadsheet add-on to make this easier.
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
Google’s March 2024 Core Update finished rolling out April 19. “A Google spokesperson said, “The updates led to larger quality improvements than we originally thought – you’ll now see 45% less low quality, unoriginal content in search results, versus the 40% improvement we expected across this work.” Experts are struggling to analyze it, in part due to how long it lasted. Not surprisingly, Reddit was a big winner, and sites with a lot of ads and affiliate links continue to lose.
An update on how long your titles should be for Google. “So whether your titles get cut off or rewritten in SERPs, Google still uses the HTML title tag for ranking considerations, not the titles shown in SERPs.” The author’s research is too limited to draw reliable conclusions from, and most other research in this area over the last decade shows that shorter titles tend to rank better. However, she has pulled together many recent statements on title length and how it works, which is useful reading.
A reminder that “keyword difficulty” is a subjective score that different tools may not agree on, and that also depends on your overall site/shop and its history. This applies to all sorts of keyword tools, including those used for marketplace sites.
It looks like Google adding its AI to search results will have a strong impact on traffic, as it will answer questions without the need to click, and “only 47% of the top 10 traditional search results are sources for SGE.” [SGE is now called AI Overviews.] That means if a page is outside the top 10 now, it may still be used to generate the answers, and could even get clicks from being displayed in SGE.
Still with AI, Google was fined €250 million by France for using news media to train its AI, Gemini.
Google admits to deindexing many, many pages in February, due to quality issues.
A recent article dissects why Google search is so bad these days, and largely blames one man. While you can read the original here, you may want to start with a decent summary and the reaction from Google and the SEO community.
Here’s a full list of Google changes and announcements from April.
Not Google
Both Microsoft and Google had excellent first quarters, with ad revenue up 12% and 13% respectively. “Bing reached over 140 million daily active users.”
OpenAI is apparently not starting their own search engine, contrary to rumours.
SOCIAL MEDIA - All Aspects, By Site
General
Here’s another of the periodic posts that tries to figure out the best times to post on different social media sites. It covers Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter and Pinterest.
Direct Messages are now available on Bluesky.
Facebook (includes relevant general news from Meta)
In another recent AI fumble, Meta has introduced an AI assistant to its various products in several countries - but you can’t turn it off in the search bar. It may also show up in group chats, including discussions about parenting. “The Associated Press reported that an official Meta AI chatbot inserted itself into a conversation in a private Facebook group for Manhattan moms. It claimed it too had a child in school in New York City, but when confronted by the group members, it later apologized before its comments disappeared.”
Here’s more on Meta’s automated ad issue that is ramping up costs but decreasing sales for many, including small businesses.
Meta is now offering its Verification for Business subscription package to more countries, and has added new tiers as well.
While Meta had a strong 1st quarter financially, it projects weaker results through 2025 as it spends a ton on money trying to guide its AI offerings to profitability.
Instagram
Instagram added some new features, including “Reveal”, which blurs Stories, and only releases the content once you DM the creator.
Reels under 90 seconds perform better on Instagram than longer ones.
To help avoid scammers on Instagram, learn how to identify and block fake accounts.
Instagram’s Creator Marketplace - where businesses can search for influencers to promote their product - is now available in 10 more counties, including Germany, France and Indonesia.
LinkedIn
You should be optimizing LinkedIn posts for the platform itself and outside search engines. The article includes tips for both personal and business pages.
LinkedIn is adding games you can play once a day, which sounds weird for a professional network.
Pinterest
Pinterest’s summer trend report has arrived; apparently maximalism is in yet again.
Reddit
Reddit is one of those sites that is getting worse lately as people try to get Google ranking through it (which is a whole other SEO story I have covered in these updates before).
ChatGPT will now be training on Reddit comments. The agreement meant a huge stock boost for Reddit.
Reddit is trying to attract more French-speaking users by auto-translating the site in real-time using AI.
After plenty of user complaints, Reddit is starting a new awards scheme.
Snapchat
You can now edit your Snapchat messages within 5 minutes of sending, if you subscribe to Snapchat Plus.
Threads
Meta wants more content on Threads, and is willing to pay well-known creators to create it. Invite only, of course.
You can now filter out unwanted words on Threads.
TikTok
While the US government has voted to ban TikTok if the company isn’t sold, there is a lot of time left before that could happen, and a legal battle to be fought. TikTok has already filed a lawsuit, as have some major creators. Meanwhile, small business owners and creators are understandably worried. From an article by the BBC: “According to March 2024 data from TikTok, more than seven million small US businesses use TikTok, and the company reported it drove $15bn (£12.04bn) in revenue for these enterprises in 2023.”
How to rank on TikTok: the Ultimate Guide. Some of the tips include hashtags, keywords, and choosing the right thumbnail.
There are several ways to remove (or avoid) the TikTok watermark if you want to use your TikTok content on other platforms.
Twitter
Twitter’s domain has finally switched over to X in some locations [but I will still call it Twitter].
(CONTENT) MARKETING (includes blogging, emails, and strategies)
Time to gear up your content marketing plans for June.
ONLINE ADVERTISING (EXCEPT INDIVIDUAL SOCIAL MEDIA AND ECOMMERCE SITES)
Search ads are converting less while costing more, something that has been going on for a few years now. “Advertisers are paying more for leads and clicks, while Alphabet, Google’s parent company, keeps reporting record profits.” This is one of the reasons the US Department of Justice argues that Google is a monopoly.
Not enough AI in your ads? Google is solving that through video ads and more virtual try-ons.
Google Shopping is going to start showing how many people have bought from each site recently, although businesses can opt out.
Google is removing keywords from Google Ads accounts if they have received zero impressions in the past 13 months. While you can reactivate them, Google discourages that.
You may be able to run Google’s Performance Max ads through particular marketplaces now or in the near future, if your marketplace signs up. For some businesses, selling through a marketplace might be cheaper than setting up a site.
Social media advertising is now bigger than search ads, according to a recent report. Almost ⅔ of these ads are on various Meta properties.
BUSINESS & CONSUMER TRENDS, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Slow economic growth in the United States in the first quarter of 2024 sparked worries that the rest of 2024 will be as bad or even worse. Even McDonalds is stressing that consumers can only take so much inflation.
US ecommerce sales were up in the first quarter, more than overall retail.
Some consumers are finding that ecommerce is tiring, offering too many options and no easy way to shop quickly. “Despite an increased emphasis on personalized experiences in recent years, 7 in 10 customers feel either no improvement or an increase in the time and effort required to make a purchase decision.”

How AI Is Changing the Future of Digital Marketing
The marketing strategies today evolve at a rate that has never been seen before, thanks to artificial intelligence. AI has ushered in a transformation of how brands connect with their consumers-from personalized content to automated customer support. Those wishing to step into the world of digital marketing should be well-informed of this AI evolution.
In our Digital Marketing Training Academy, wherever AI is being taught, we provide the most advanced courses. So, from this perspective, here is how AI is shaping the future of digital marketing and why it is the best time to get enrolled into a digital marketing program that prepares you for tomorrow.
AI Enables Hyper-Personalization
Gone are the days of put-them-all-in-one bin generic ads. AI allows marketing to create content tailored to an individual's behavior, preferences, and prior engagements with another brand. Google and Facebook are amongst many platforms that work with algorithms using native AI capabilities for precision targeting. For instance, AI might predict what a product is going to be useful for a user and suggest those products.
During our digital marketing training, we teach students in practice to utilize chatbots, dynamic ads, and machine learning algorithms for fostering an engaging user experience. Therefore, it is why we are recognized as the top digital marketing institute to study in.
Smarter SEO with AI Tools
Artificial intelligence has given a new edge to Search Engine Optimization (SEO), in the sense of being smarter and more data-oriented. Platforms such as SEMrush, Ahrefs, and Surfer SEO are AI-empowered candidates equipped for competitive analysis, keyword gap discovery, and content performance optimization. Another field of optimization where AI is given major credits is voice search, which is on the rise with an increasing number of smart devices.
As a digital marketing academy, we train our learners to master AI-based SEO tools to make them competitive in the job market. This hands-on experience makes the students stand out in devising SEO strategies that deliver.
AI-Powered Content Creation and Curation
Yeah, even AI can write! Therefore, the likes of ChatGPT, Jasper, and Copy.ai assist marketers in generating catchy headlines for blog posts and social media content. The AI can analyze what works best for the contents; it can also suggest the best time for posting for maximum engagement.
The digital marketing course includes practical training with the use of AI tools to refine content, thereby saving time and getting better yields from the effort. Whether working for a brand or starting an agency, this skill will definitely turn out to be a game-changer.
Predictive Analytics for Smarter Campaigning
In the most amazing way, analytics can be used to predict anything. Huge amounts of data can be used by AI to predict user behavior, campaign performance, and market trends so that marketers could perform more data-based decision-making than simple guesstimating.
Within the digital marketing certificate program, students learn how to use predictive analytics in planning smarter, more effective marketing campaigns. Doing this, of course, increases the Return on Investment, as well as creates a more deep understanding of customer journeys.
Chatbots and Automated Customer Service
Artificial-intelligence powered chatbots on most websites and eCommerce portals provide support all through the day: answering queries, collecting data, and even converting visitors into customers. Thus, AI-driven chatbots work to cut down operational costs and build better customer experiences.
Our digital marketing training institute helps students explore chatbot tools like Tidio, ManyChat, and Drift to create real-time engagement workflows for web and social media channels. Now, designing chatbots is surely a lucrative arm to pursue for any digital marketer.
AI Improves Advertising ROI
Paid advertising is one of the pillars of digital marketing, and AI is giving it a fresh intellectual zing. With AI, Google Ads and Facebook Ads serve better conversion rates through automating bidding for a right audience.
In our digital marketing academy, we teach students how to work with AI-powered ad managers, and how to optimize ad campaigns for the best possible performance. There are many reasons why students call us the best digital marketing institute in the area.
Track Performance in Real Time
The AI systems track marketing campaigns in time and give a feedback report. Marketers can view or analyze performance of the campaigns right away-they do not need to wait for weekly reports for this.
The curriculum for digital marketing includes dashboard, KPIs, and AI-based reporting tools. With real-time performance tracking, students can indeed prepare themselves for taking immediate action and to make required improvements.
Why Learn AI with a Digital Marketing Course?
If you're aiming to carve out a career in digital marketing, AI is not just an advantage-it is a must. The day-to-day operations of being a social media strategist, SEO specialist, a content marketer, or a paid ads specialist, will all revolve around AI.
At our digital marketing training center, we offer:

AI-Generated Content: Killing Creativity or Redefining It?
Tumblr media
A few years ago, if you said an algorithm could write ad copy, blog posts, or product descriptions, people would’ve rolled their eyes. Today? It's reality. AI-generated content is everywhere—articles, captions, scripts, newsletters. The line between human and machine writing is blurring faster than most expected. But here’s the real question: with AI now writing at scale, is originality becoming obsolete, or is it just taking on a new form?
Let’s break it down.
AI Is Good—Sometimes Too Good
AI content tools like ChatGPT, Jasper, Copy.ai, and dozens of others are making it ridiculously easy to churn out content. Need a blog post in 10 minutes? Done. Want 20 product descriptions for your ecommerce site? Easy.
For businesses, this is a game-changer. It slashes time and budget. You can maintain a content calendar without hiring a whole team of writers. But there’s a catch: everyone’s using the same tools. Which means everyone’s content starts to sound the same.
AI learns from existing patterns. It doesn't innovate from scratch—it mimics. So when millions use the same tools, tapping into the same databases, what we get is homogenized content at scale. The words might look different on the surface, but the soul? Often missing.
What Does “Original” Even Mean Anymore?
Originality isn’t just about coming up with something no one’s ever said. It’s about voice. It’s about perspective. It’s about telling the same story, but differently—grounded in context, personality, and nuance. AI isn’t great at that. Not yet.
What it is good at is structure. It can crank out a solid skeleton—a draft. But the final layer, the one that resonates with readers, the one that makes someone feel something or think differently? That still needs a human touch.
So no, originality isn’t dead. It’s just shifting. Writers today aren’t competing with AI, they’re collaborating with it. The best content creators are learning how to edit AI, not just use it.
Google’s Stance: E-E-A-T Over Everything
Let’s be honest—AI content exploded in part because SEO teams saw a shortcut. Write fast, rank fast. But Google’s been clear: experience, expertise, authority, and trustworthiness (E-E-A-T) matter more than ever.
What does that mean for AI content?
If it’s generic, thin, or misleading, it’s not going to rank. Period. Google has already updated its algorithm several times in 2024 and 2025 to reward content that demonstrates genuine first-hand knowledge and penalize AI-generated fluff.
So, content marketers have to rethink their approach. It’s not about volume anymore. It’s about value.
If you’re using AI, fine. But are you fact-checking? Are you adding personal insight? Are you using your expertise to go beyond the surface?
If not, you're not playing the long game.
AI Tools Are Evolving (And So Are the Risks)
OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google’s Gemini are racing ahead. These tools are getting better at mimicking human writing styles, adapting tone, and even citing sources. But they’re not perfect.
AI still:
Hallucinates facts
Misses cultural nuances
Struggles with humor or emotion
Can’t always understand shifting contexts (like sarcasm or irony)
This is where misuse starts to creep in. In March 2025, several large news sites were called out for publishing AI-written articles that contained factual errors and outdated information, without any editorial oversight. The backlash was real.
Brands can't afford to lose credibility for the sake of speed. Trust, once broken, doesn’t come back easy.
Human Creativity Still Matters
AI can’t replace lived experience. It can’t replicate the moment a content creator tries a new strategy, fails, learns, and writes about it. It can’t tap into regional culture, local slang, or personal storytelling with authenticity.
For example, a content writer in India talking about SEO trends in Chandni Chowk, or a marketer sharing how they grew a D2C brand in Lajpat Nagar—that's perspective AI can’t generate. And that’s what readers, and Google, are starting to value more.
In cities where digital content demand is booming—like Delhi—this balance is crucial. Tools might help with execution, but the content that actually performs? It still needs human direction. That’s part of why many learners are opting for upskilling through practical, human-led formats like a Digital Marketing Course Delhi, where the focus is both on strategy and storytelling—not just software use.
A New Kind of Originality
So, is originality dead? No. But it’s evolving.
Originality isn’t just about being “first” anymore. It’s about being real, specific, and relevant. It’s about curation, insight, and application. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel every time—we need to explain it better, spin it faster, or give it a voice that stands out.
This also means creators need to develop a sharper editorial eye. It’s not about writing more. It’s about writing smarter. Use AI to brainstorm. To break through writer’s block. To draft that first version. But polish it like it matters. Because it does.
Final Thoughts
The future of content isn’t man vs. machine. It’s man with machine—but only if we use it responsibly. The writers who thrive won’t be the ones trying to beat AI. They’ll be the ones shaping it, filtering it, and building on top of it.
And as the demand for quality content keeps growing—especially in content-heavy metros like Delhi—more professionals are turning to structured learning. Programs like Certification Courses for Digital Marketing in Delhi are helping marketers sharpen their edge, by combining creativity with the kind of strategic insight that AI simply can’t offer yet.
In the end, originality isn’t dead. It’s just playing a new game. And the smart ones? They’re learning the rules early.
