Although I have been very lucky to travel back I in time to different sites and events during the Industrial Revolution, I cannot wait to get back to 2024.
Today I found myself at the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, London! It took place at the Crystal Palace and was absolutely grandeur.
Imagine a massive glass-and-iron building that forecasted all of the amazing inventions of the Industrial Revolution. The Crystal Palace was engineered by Joseph Paxton. And spanned 990,000 square feet. It was built specifically to house the wonders of the world—or at least, the wonders of the industrialized world.
Inside was a sensory overload. The exhibition boasted over 100,000 objects from 15,000 exhibitors representing 44 countries. The British, of course, were showing off their industrial contributions. Steam engines, spinning jennies, and intricate clockwork mechanisms filled the exhibition. I even saw a giant printing press in action. It spit out broadsheets faster than you could say "Industrial Revolution."
But it wasn’t just Britain showing off their brilliance. France displayed luxurious silks and porcelain. India brought their  Koh-i-Noor diamond which was a whopping 105 carats. And I’m sure you can imagine that America had to take part in this exhibition. They had a reaping machine that everyone was talking about, and some guy named Colt was showing off his revolvers. It was showcase of excellence.
Museums in DC had nothing on the Great Exhibition. I wandered through the Machinery Court, mesmerized by the advancements. It felt like the result of the Industrial Revolution was on display. All of these countries made connections through their innovations. It was truly something monumental. The Industrial Revolution turned ideas into reality, and the Great Exhibition was like a victory parade.
But it wasn’t all industry and invention. I saw Victorian families in their Sunday best, children tugging at their parents’ sleeves to see the fountains and sculptures. Street vendors set stands up outside and sold everything from penny novels to meat pies. The whole event was almost like a festival.
I left thinking about all the advancements that had been made during this time. If it were not for some of these inventions, we would not have the technology we have today. We have come so far. Hopefully my next stop will be somewhere in the future!
The Great Exhibition wasn’t just about celebrating progress it was about believing in the limitless potential of human creativity.

They are both amazingly articulate artists, and both are very open in their discussion of their craft and experiences. It’s well worth the watch. That said - from the perspective of a “shipper” - listening to DAW’s responses regarding Karen’s romantic ties is … difficult. And that’s not on her! I respect her interpretation of the character and what’s driving it: wanting independence for Karen, to be established with her own identity and agency, emotionally-safe from these vigilantes, who are somewhat toxic to her mental and physical wellbeing. (Lets face it, both Matt and Frank are! :) ) And, I can hear her frustration of how this interpretation pushes against the direction of the scriptwriters. She channels Karen’s need to find her own place in the world, and peace with her own identity, to portray Karen’s strength. She argues that Karen needs that inner certainty before she is ready to have a relationship - yet it flies in the face of Karen’s scripted behavior in DD S2 and Punisher S2, and with the script-implied intention behind her refusal to date Ellison’s nephew… And that’s not to say that Karen is supposed to be logical and unswayed by her emotions, even though she may not feel like she is able to commit… but DAW’s message is clear: nether Matt nor Frank. But… I love Karedevil. I believe they both become better people together, than they are alone. Matt - possibly more so… and that’s unfair to Karen. And the feminist part of me rubs against that knowledge, understanding that I, too, have “enslaved” Karen to Matt’s wellbeing in my fic series, through her near-unconditional love for him … And, maybe, this is something I need to think about long and hard for the future fics in my universe. To try to do more to rebalance those scales…

Kearran Giovanni (Major Crimes), Geoffrey Cantor (Marvel’s Daredevil, The Punisher), Michael Paul Chan (Major Crimes) and Insatiable‘s Erinn Westbrook are set for recurring roles on the upcoming third season of Fox’s hit medical drama series The Resident.
Giovanni will play Andrea Braydon. Passionate, articulate, smart, fit, “Andrea” is a fitness teacher who tries to find investors for her supplement product.
Cantor will play Zip, the father of Grayson (Radek Lord), a wealthy, successful businessman who is sometimes neurotic and cloying. Zip plays golf with Bell and, after giving him some annoying pointers on his swing, agrees to go into business with him.
Chan will portray Yee Austin, Austin’s (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) adoptive father and co-owner of Yee’s Chinese Restaurant. Jovial, a little corny, warm, caring and extremely supportive, he always puts his son first.
Westbrook is Adaku Eze, Mina’s (Shaunette Renée Wilson) strong-willed friend with an adventurous spirit.
