Are you asking if he uses it only for MC, or for anyone he comes across? Personally, I think he only uses it for MC but it can also be accepted it's a given pet name to anyone he comes across (like how some people just comfortably refer to strangers as 'honey', 'sweetie', etc) and mean nothing by it. Both works ::-)!

Funnily enough there is a brief mention of why he uses it in the Day 3 script, so I don't think it makes the question uninteresting at all haha! Although that does mean it counts as spoilers (sorta) but he does explain why he calls you 'firefly' eventually ::-)

Then again I'm re-writing the Day 3 script so who knows, we'll see how it goes!

Lacramioara Strigoi was not a particularly inconspicuous individual. Even amongst the strange offerings of NEXUS, he looked quite a bit more like something that they would study than someone sent on behalf of another organization. And the atmosphere of the lobby reflects this; NEXUS employees move tersely around the angel, watching every slight movement as if she might lunge at them like an animal.

Lacramioara knows they don't trust her, not really. The two individuals sent to be his "escorts" or "welcoming committee" were undoubtedly intended to be supervision, and you didn't have to be a genius to notice how heavily they were armed. They weren't that chatty, either, which she found disappointing, because being sent off without Leopold meant he really didn't have anyone to talk to, and journeying with mortal-folk in their vehicles was a complete drag without conversation.

The mission was simple. This NEXUS thing had been dabbling for a long while in the same sorts of creatures and criminals that Michael dispatched them for, and as the nature of angels had become more and more known to humans, NEXUS had become more interested in them as well. So He had found it good to offer some sort of cooperation, sending his best and most senior exousiai to trial some missions with one of their operatives. She was flattered to be selected. But nonetheless, he still missed his usual partner.

Eventually, someone poked their head out and this indicated to her escorts that they were finally welcome into the lab itself, which was a change of pace he was thankful for, even if the way she was ushered in was somewhat rude.

Remarkably tall-- and only more so with her boots, broad-shouldered and angular, he looms over most in the room with ease. Two horns curl out from her temples atop sleek, dark hair, which frames the jarringly stark contrast of a face painted in black and white. Around her neck, the spikes of an iron wolf-collar shift and glimmer in the light. Tattooed tendrils curl across almost every bit of visible skin, and upon seeing his assigned partner, the halo of thorns behind her head flare gold.

"Ah! It's you, isn't it?" Lacramioara does not point, because pointing is rude, but her mouth pulls into a beaming smile that shows off two terribly large fangs. "You're so pretty! They did not tell me I would work with someone so lovely." The escorts tense when she reaches for his bag, but what is pulled out appears to be a wrapped bag of goodies.

"I brought a hosting gift. These are all from my home-- Where my tomb is, not where I stay for sleeping here. That's just in the downtown. This is from Suceava!" The excited, puppy-like fidgeting is quite an odd sight from someone so imposing, but she hardly seems aware of such a dissonance.

"Are you a nun? Do you like it? My Leopold was a monk, but he never lived with the sisters. Can you have these sweets, if you're a nun? There's the small sample of ţuica, which my Leo makes. I apologize if it is of no value to you."

They succeed, eventually. The first ever test models were the watcher line, the engineering team couldn't get actual facial expressions so they just made a metal pumpkin for the head. The only robot remaining from the line that wasn't scrapped or lost is W-GHD-003(Ghosdeeri)

Do you think Teldryn is happy seeing Chry and Miraak's supposed ''fate demands us kill the other'' actually turned out well and they're happy being together :] (unlike his own COUGH COUGH)

Firstly, that is beautiful artwork. You always characterise people so well! My favourite part is how Miraak stands with his arm tucked so genteelly behind his back, that feels very old fashioned and I love it.

Secondly yes, I think Teldryn is happy! I think you can have strong (potentially romantic) feelings for someone and still be glad to see them happy with someone else, especially if you're as mature and cool as Teldryn is. To go with the Nerevarine story, I think Teldryn (or whatever name he went by back then) tried to redeem Dagoth Ur and ultimately didn't succeed, so to see someone else turn it around is probably gratifying, if bittersweet. He figures that at least someone gets a happy ending, and he can be content with that.

Groundhog Day at the Old Vic, London 2023

*dusts off the old blog* It's certainly been a minute, hasn't it! Still here, still a huge GHD fan. In the intervening years, I got to see productions at San Francisco Playhouse and at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, IL. (I also got married and went through a bunch of other life stuff, but that's neither here nor there). But then it was announced that Groudhog Day would be returning to the Old Vic in 2023 with Andy Karl, and my husband and I used that as an excuse to finally do that UK trip we'd been talking about for years.

Tumblr user colemckenzies did a great post outlining some of the changes between Broadway and 2023 Old Vic. I wanted to further elaborate on some additional changes I noticed. Obviously spoilers to follow:

In “There Will Be Sun”, the first chorus of “Tomorrow spring will come and then there will be blue skies my friend” is cut. It goes straight from “If not tomorrow then tomorrow or tomorrow there will be sun” to “Oh if I could I’d will these clouds away my love”

While obviously the revolves are gone (look at me picking up British-isms 😄), the bedroom set gets wheeled in every loop. They keep the trick from Broadway where this is always done counter-clockwise until the loop finally breaks.

As previously mentioned, there’s a wonderful lyric change in Day One. “Their dumb superstitions and vacuous chat, their total unawareness of the fact their trapped, perhaps you don't miss it if you don't know you lack it, I'm sure there was a pack of xanax in this jacket'

I adore this because of the foreshadowing, and how Phil thinks he’s singing about the townsfolk when he’s really singing about himself.

Dialogue change in 2023 when Phil runs into Jonathan:

Jonathan: “Off to the see the groundhog?”

Phil: “Why, isn’t there a tractor pull or a cow-tipping contest?”

Jonathan, looks confused: “I don’t think that’s today.”

When Rita introduces  to Phil on Day One and reminds him of the flood story, Phil takes a second before recalling, groans, and goes, "Oh, the intern? They didn't even send me a real producer." After which Rita corrects him that she's a real producer now, albeit an associate producer. 

On Day 2 when the sheriff drops his gun, Phil asks "How do you have a permit???"

At the end of Day 2, Rita sings “I mean he acts kind of asshole-ish still. I think he might be mentally ill.” While it’s on the cast recording and the early previews bootleg, I could have sworn it was cut in the final Broadway version. Regardless, it’s restored in the 2023 version.

Phil’s “Help me~~~~” at the end of Day 3 is cut.

In Philandering, they cut the line where Phil "proposes" to Nancy (which I prefer - no one is that stupid, and they make the point later that Nancy is more than a caricature)

Also in Philandering, you can hear the chorus singing, “Gonna party like it’s no tomorrow~~~” in the party scene (formerly the orgy scene). Phil also gets 10 pizzas delivered to his room.

Phil is less aggressive when he confesses his “love” to Rita in One Day. 

On Broadway, they sit down directly on the stage, and Phil leans sideways to Rita to confess. As he gets more desperate, he starts to position himself over her and tries to take her hand, after which she slaps him.

In 2023, they’re sitting on a bench together. Phil tries to take her hand, and she pulls away and slaps him. Still creepy, but much less heading in the direction of sexual assault.

Either way Phil totally deserves to get slapped. I’ve talked to a few people who have said they could never root for Phil because of this scene (which is a fair critique). The 2023 version IMO makes the same point without so much portraying Phil as a potential sexual predator. 

Right before Phil smashes the alarm clock at the end of One Day, he yells “Make it stop!” (“Somebody make it stop”? Memory is a fickle thing)

When Phil kills himself with the gun before Hope, it's more explicit that he stole the gun off of the sheriff with his faulty holster.

I don't remember if this is new, but when Phil wakes up at the beginning of Hope, he touches the side of his head where he shot himself and even though he knows that the day will always reset, he still looks a little surprised and it's heartbreaking. 

For the third death/revival in Hope (where Phil climbs the ladder):

As noted, lots of changes to If I Had My Time Again.

IMO the orchestration and lyric changes are for the better. I adored this song on the cast recording, but in the August Wilson theater it frequently felt swallowed up.

With the emphasis on just Phil and Rita, it’s a much more intimate song, which is what the scene needs IMO.

I also love Rita’s new lyric “Go to all the parties that I missed / Kiss all the boys I was too afraid to kiss”, because then it’s Rita fulfilling her “time again” when she kisses Phil during Seeing You.

After "If I Had My Time Again", Phil eats a carton of Ben & Jerry's while discussing the almanac with Rita. I love the implication that he’s eaten all of this junk food before, but he’s trying it again with her.

Not a change, but I was sitting close enough one night to see the stock photos they use for Ned’s wallet pictures of his kids, and I realized that “little Mary” is just a baby. It really hit home that Ned has probably just lost his wife in the last year or two, and he’s trying to raise five very young kids on his own.

In the Broadway/cast recording versions of "Philanthropy", you can hear some melodic callbacks to earlier songs. In the London 2023 version, the chorus actually sings lines like, "I'm not sure what the point is / But this point is it don't matter" and "If I had my time again I would not do it all the same"

There's no pause of silence before "Seeing You" starts

After Phil and Rita run off into the snow at the end of Seeing You, the couples left dancing are Nancy/Larry, Debbie/Fred, and then Mrs. Lancaster dances alone in the snow in joyous wonder. I love this bit, becuase it feels like all the different ways you can find a new meaning of love (Nancy/Larry, the couple just discovering each other, Debbie/Fred, who have moved into a new phase of their relationship, and then Mrs. Lancaster, who even as an old woman can revel in the beauty of the snow)

In 2023 when Phil takes Rita to see the sunrise, he makes her cover her eyes, and then unveil them once the full sunrise is in view. It’s very sweet.

I've mentioned before how everything they've done with/for the High Republic in the Star Wars franchise would have worked (at least on paper) pretty well as a setting for the Sequel Trilogy rather than that nostalgia filled quagmire that we got. By which, of course, I mean that we should transpose it all to take place after the Original Trilogy, thereby not boxing it in and having most of it not make sense in the grand scheme of Star Wars. This is my idea of what a first movie in this "new trilogy" would look like.

Relatively peaceful since the various Imperial Remnants have been brought under control

Obviously, a disclaimer. I am creating this with the full benefit of hindsight and the works of others at my disposal. And also, no disrespect is meant to fans of the High Republic characters as I shift them out of the spotlight.

But without further ado...

EPISODE I: For Light and Life

The Legacy Run breaks up in hyperspace, flinging debris and parts of the ship across the Outer Rim at near light speed, causing untold damage

A joint task force of the RDC (Republic Defense Coalition) and Jedi respond to the planet Hetzal, an agricultural world where most of the debris is heading, saving the planet from destruction

The task force also manages to save survivors of the Legacy Run in the debris

[this is where we meet Poe and Finn]

While an investigation is opened into what caused the Great Hyperspace Disaster, Finn and Poe are pulled to look into a missing person's case

Meet Lor San Tekka [Max von Sydow] - this missing person is his granddaughter

Rey San Tekka isn't really missing - she ran away from her sheltered/privileged life to seek adventure, finding it with the Nihil, specifically Marchion Ro

[She doesn't know the true motives of the Nihil]

Rey is also a "Skywalker" - someone who can use the Force to chart new paths through hyperspace

She's been using her gifts to chart Paths for the Nihil raids, though she doesn't know that's what they're being used for

Rey overhears Marchion Ro talking with other Nihil about the successful raid and no survivors and she realizes she's been duped

[They also mention almost hitting a ship in hyperspace (the Legacy Run), inadvertently causing the GHD]

She tries to escape but is caught by Lorna Dee

The Supreme Chancellor is meeting with delegates and Senators and members of the Jedi Council, who assure her that the GHD has been contained and they're looking into it

Lina Soh passes these assurances on to the Republic and let's the galaxy know that the Republic Fair on Valo is still happening - a centennial of the restoration of the Republic

Finn and Poe arrive at the planet Grizal, following Rey's trail, unaware that its a Nihil stronghold

They're shot down and crash in the jungle

The Nihil hunt them until they're cornered, with Rey swooping in at the last minute to save them

[Marchion Ro had let her go]

The trio fight off the Nihil and escape in a stolen ship, jumping to hyperspace

Before they have a chance to really rest, Rey tells them they need to get to Valo immediately; the Nihil are planning on attacking the Republic Fair

On Valo, the Fair is starting

Neither Poe nor Finn can get through to Valo [communications have been sabotaged], so they contact Starlight Beacon and ask that any and all available personnel report to Valo immediately

The Nihil attack during Chancellor Soh's speech

Chaos ensues, with battles taking place on the planet, in the skies, and in space

The trio arrive and split up, Poe getting to a Skyhawk interceptor to join the fight in the skies while Finn and Rey make their way to the ground.

Rey has an idea on how to stop the Nihil, but she needs access to a communications array

Poe rallies the other starfighters to fight off the Nihil ships and stop their bombardment of the city

Finn and Rey meet up with Chancellor Soh and her guard, including a Jedi Master, who have been helping civilians

Soh spares a few guards to accompany Finn and Rey

As they make their way to the communications tower to restore power and enact her plan, they're ambushed by a group of Nihil led by Lorna Dee herself

Epic fight between Finn and Dee, who has an electrosword or electrohammer or something

Rey manages to restore power to the tower and immediately enacts her own code sequence, causing the Nihil ships to crash into each other or to the ground

Finn beats Lorna, and she is arrested

Republic reinforcements from Starlight Beacon and nearby systems arrive, and they manage to drive off or capture the remaining Nihil

Lorna Dee managed to escape custody

The Republic is victorious, though sustaining heavy casualties; the Chancellor herself was injured

As order is restored and aid is doled out, a speech is made to remind everyone that "We are all the Republic!"

"For Light and Life!" - the Jedi ignite their lightsabers

Mid or post credit scene of Marchion Ro congratulating Lorna Dee on not only escaping Republic custody but returning with such a gift - a Jedi Knight (not Finn)

And there we have it.

Obviously, this is just a bullet list of major events and the order I think they should happen in. Just because I think these ideas worked together on paper doesn't mean that it would have worked out on screen, but sadly, that's something we'll never know. I'm just sad that they invented all this cool stuff for Star Wars and it's relegated to books and comics where it doesn't get a fraction of the audience.

SO. Ultimately I do think the happy ending that we see is what really happened, but I still love to theorize and there are a lot of cool ones on the internet, so I’m gonna make a list of some of my faves. So buckle up!

1. Probably one of the most popular internet theories is the “purgatory theory”, which proposes that Phil died early on in the movie/musical and the time loop is his personal purgatory that he must escape.

I think my favorite part about this theory is all the different ways people think that Phil could have died; such as freezing to death when he left the van to talk to the cop or from getting hit by the shovel when he’s in the gas station.

2. The theory that Ned Ryerson is causing the time loop in order to sell insurance to Phil is probably the funniest one to me, and it also has a surprising amount of canon backing?

The only day where Phil buys all of Ned’s insurance is also the day he breaks out of the loop, and the way Ned approaches Phil to tell him that they went to high school together is uncannily similar to how Phil convinces Nancy of the same thing. So it’s interesting to think the Ned learned this about Phil and then put him in a time loop solely to sell some insurance lolllol.

3. Probably my favorite theory ever is video game theory. Idk what to say I just think explaining the loop by proposing that Phil is just a video game protagonist and the time loop represents a save point is really cool!!

I also fucking love undertale and I could draw parallels between Phil and Flowey for hours but that’s another post. Additionally I enjoy the idea that when Phil dies over and over it’s just the player getting super pissed and ramming their character into every hazard in the game.

Also this isn’t really a theory but I like the idea that Phil commits all of the seven deadly sins before he gets out of the loop.

Wrath- Taking revenge on the people that bothered him before the loop, such as punching Ned in the face numerous times.

Sloth- Sitting around memorizing Jeopardy episodes.

Gluttony- Gorging himself on breakfast foods.

Envy- His envy for the popularity of the groundhog as well as possibly envy for his colleagues.

Greed- Robbing banks.

Lust- Seducing practically every woman in Punx. using his ability.

Pride- His greatest character flaw.

Prodigal Dragonborn AU

Thinking of a timeslip AU where due to Misadventure, Lucien from PD ends up in some other timeline where time went another way, and he and Miraak didn't meet.

Started out as a Gol Hah Dov AU, and that would be interesting, Lucien seeing a timeline where Miraak has not only hooked up with someone else, but met Lucien, even got on with him, but never showered any of that obsessive devotion on him that Lucien First Acolyte of the Cult of Miraak got without even trying. Not to mention Chry reacting to a Lucien that has Slept With His Husband In The Other Timeline, and GHD Lucien losing his mind and panicking.

However, I couldn't actually write that as GHD is very much not my fic... but I could do one without the GHD elements, and a straight up AU of PD where Melinda fell to Miraak who successfully escaped Apocrypha. And because this Miraak is, to put it mildly, very much still a Dark Lord Dragonborn, he sets out to conquer the world, and two years or so after escaping, has killed Ulfric and taken over Windhelm and the Stormcloaks, legalised Talos worship after acknowledging Talos as an honoured and respected precursor Dragonborn worthy of worship, and is now High King of most of an independent Skyrim.

However, there is a resistance movement. A Certain Someone did not take too kindly to his partner getting killed, and raced back to Whiterun to raise the alarm. And so Whiterun is still independent under Jarl Balgruuf, but it's also home to the resistance militia known as the Merry Men, who wear jester outfits to hide their real faces and carry out guerrilla attacks on Miraak's cultists wherever they find them. No prizes for guessing who they're led by.

The only reason Whiterun has held out against three dragons, Bend Will and the massed ranks of the Cult of Miraak and Stormcloaks is down to Cicero having hit up Madanach, and seeing as the Reach's Jarl bent the knee to Miraak, the Forsworn responded with aid and a magical shield to keep Bend Will at bay. The jester masks are likewise proof against mind control magic.

Anyway PD Lucien finds himself in the midst of all of this, dressed in his First Acolyte robes, probably fell through an Eye of Magnus-caused anomaly. He doesn't fully realise anything's changed - but his resonant sphere isn't resonating, and he can't feel Miraak in his head any more although the bond is still there. Weird and suspicious, but fixable potentially so back to Winterhold he goes. He gets back to Winterhold hoping for tea, a nice cuddle with his husband and the attentions of his cat. Walks into the longhouse... no cat. No Morrigan or Argis or kids. Just Jarl Korir and court, who see the robes and mask, assume he's part of the cult and do at least make him welcome, wanting to know if he's with the High King.

Lucien is looking around at a longhouse still heated and lit with naked flames rather than the steampipes and electric lights he's used to, and is almost afraid to ask what happened to the College. Turns out the Saarthal dig never happened, Miraak nixed the expedition on arriving in Winterhold with his troops, partly to ingratiate himself with Korir and partly for some reason Miraak never did fully explain... as if he knew what they might find there. Anyway, Aren still leads the College, which has accepted the regime change quite easily. Attitudes to magic have undergone a dramatic shift what with a True Nord Dragonborn High King Who Legalised Talos Worship wielding it as capably as any College member.

Lucien just stares mutely at the falling-apart bridge that Miraak never bothered fixing... and with no siege at the College, never needed to destroy either, and resolves to go to Windhelm.

He's let in, cultists looking at the robes then wanting the mask removed, and on looking at his face, look very confused and wonder when he left the city, weren't you at the palace with Our Lord?

"Clearly not, you should take me back there, he's probably missed me!" Lucien says cheerfully. Inwardly he's panicking, because they recognised him?? King Miraak knows Lucien Flavius??

Apparently so. King Miraak is masked and robed, no one ever sees his real face. But he starts on seeing Lucien, especially the robes, because why is Lucien wearing robes like his.

"You are a guest at my court, Lucien, but do not presume more than that. Even Archmagister Viidost doesn't have robes like this... wait, did she enchant these???"

Viidost is summoned and denies ever having seen these in her life, in fact Mr. Flavius is upstairs having tea and studying some Dwemer volumes acquired off Calcelmo in Markarth right now, he's been there for hours. And then Miraak looks closely at Lucien and realises the vennesetiid do not behave normally around him At All, and that he's from a different timeline, and suddenly Miraak has All The Questions.

"Keep Mr Flavius occupied and ensure he does not come to find me for the next few hours. I have a... visitor to entertain."

The resulting conversation is enlightening for both. Won't write it all out, but the main plot beats are this:

King Miraak is not the tyrant he seems. He's actually been quite the enlightened ruler, with schools of Jhunal opening in his territory and the study of magic becoming a little more respectable among Nords.

The Bards College regularly send students on placement to Windhelm to learn history from King Miraak.

The Butcher of Windhelm got caught within weeks of Miraak taking over Windhelm, and the Grey Quarter's been renovated. Argonians and Dunmer are allowed in the city, as are the Khajiit subject to skooma and stolen goods searches.

The Jarls serving him are actually mostly loyal. Laila Law-Giver was restored to Riften after Season Unending's events, and Maven was Bend Willed into submission. That led to Mercer Frey's execution and the return of the Skeleton Key, and Karliah is now a loyal agent of Miraak's. The Guild operates along similar lines to Ankh-Morpork's now. ;)

With Cidhna Mine no longer a prison in Markarth, the Reach is rather more peaceful and the Forsworn are haemorrhaging recruits. Miraak's yet to fight them full on, but he's got plans.

Miraak smashed the Dawnguard questline, brutally slaughtering Harkon personally. He's got Auriel's Bow mounted on his wall but rarely uses it. Serana lives at his court and is one of his closest friends and advisors. Isran is Miraak's right hand in the Rift. (Karliah's the left.)

Alliance agreement signed with Morrowind, who recognised the Free Kingdom of Skyrim and have an Embassy in Eastmarch.

This timeline's Lucien arrived at Windhelm not long before PD Lucien, hoping King Miraak might assist with an expedition to Solstheim to investigate Dumzbthar. This timeline's Lucien is a lot more naive and sheltered and innocent, and fascinated to meet a timeline traveller! Still less a version of him! Goodness, you must tell me all about it.

PD Lucien gives an edited version to his counterpart... but he tells Miraak the truth, seeing the man's not all evil, and even attempts to flirt with him, reasoning it's not cheating to get close to his timeline's equivalent of his husband, is it? It doesn't quite go according to plan but while sex doesn't happen (Lucien is secretly OK with that), an emotional tie does form.

Plot Twist! This timeline's Lucien was working for the Merry Men, hoping to lure Miraak out to Dumzbthar in person where Cicero is lying in wait, waiting for revenge.

Alas for PD Lucien having warned Miraak about what's down there, and that Melinda's partner was an Imperial redhead named Cicero who was an ex-assassin who owned a jester's outfit. Miraak instantly sees the Merry Men connection.

Plot Twist number two - Miraak never died so he still has a lot of Daedric corruption going on. The reason he never removes the mask is that he's got sickly pale grey skin with mottled black blood vessels and completely dark eyes with blue irises the only relief. His tongue and gums are black as well as his blood. Hardly anyone's seen it but he'd not survive long if his real face was ever seen. Miraak rips the mask off to show PD Lucien this after he tries to chat him up, but when Lucien reacts with genuine sadness and kindness instead of revulsion, that's when the emotional barriers give way. A strong friendship forms, and Miraak tells PD Lucien his husband is lucky to have him. Miraak's sense of honour places PD Lucien off limits romantically and sexually, for which Lucien is frankly relieved. But Miraak, after receiving a positive reaction from one Lucien, starts looking thoughtfully at the other one.

Not entirely sure how it'd all work out, especially as I don't normally write the Forsworn as antagonists, nor Cicero, who, let's face it, isn't surviving this.

I'm thinking PD Lucien somehow managing to persuade the other Lucien to switch sides and share his intel on the Merry Men. Dumzbthar trip happens, Cicero joins the party not realising Miraak knows who he is, turns traitor around the Oblivion Gate and PD Lucien gets in the way of the knives just as the portal opens behind Cicero and the last thing he sees before passing out is two Miraaks, one of whom is slaughtering Cicero while the other is healing him and telling him to hold on.

PD Lucien wakes up and suddenly realises the bond is there, and he can feel Saviik, and then realises GRIGIO is purring on his chest, and opens his eyes to see his perfectly healthy husband holding his hand, tears in his eyes.

Took Dumzbthar the longest time to get a lock on the resonant sphere's plane of existence, but Saviik had faith Lucien in any universe would wind up at Dumzbthar eventually and so it has proved. This timeline's Lucien managed to get the facility under control, and now King Miraak has a mighty Dwemer army plus the Liisunvaar at his disposal.

"Doesn't that bother you? I mean, isn't that bad? Aren't you afraid what he might do with it?"

Saviik laughs, wiping tears away. "Niid, lokaali. My first impression of him was you moving to save his life, and him saving yours with his healing magic. You are clearly convinced he's not beyond redemption, and he clearly treasures you. Also we have spoken. He speaks very highly of you and sees you as a true friend, and reassured me he has not taken advantage of you. In return, I have told him the Reachfolk have his daughter and grandson living peacefully among them, and also pointed him Matriarch Keirine's way. If he goes in peace to her, and promises to spare her people, she might help him be healed."

PD Lucien goes home with Saviik to live happily ever after. King Miraak sees him off with the other Lucien at his side, who not-so-secretly hero-worshipped the dashing First Acolyte who was smart and brave and heroic and all the things he's not.

King Miraak is a bit surprised to hear this, telling him he, Lucien of this timeline, is the reason Miraak now has a submarine and automaton army, and that while PD Lucien's stories may have inspired, who is going to help him bring steam power and electricity to his domain once it has peace, hmm?

"What... you don't mean me, do you?" Lucien gasps, going pink, and Miraak nods.

"Yes, Court Scientist Lucien, of course I do."

Lucien is delighted, accepts, wait, he's not going to use the machines to level Whiterun, is he?

No, in fact it turns out with a lot of the Merry Man leadership dead on Solstheim, the militia band falls apart. Balgruuf is a pragmatist at heart and a secret Talos worshipper to boot and agrees to talks now he doesn't have a psychotic motley-clad widower in his court to worry about.

As for the Forsworn, it turns out Madanach is ill and dying and the Forsworn are on their knees. Keirine is the one to agree to a surrender in return for their lives and help for her brother.

One Dwemer oxygen tank for his breathing, and Miraak is able to craft a Shout to sort his mind out. Madanach is, if not pleased at realising he's got to talk terms with Igmund, at least grateful for his life back, even if this is going to require regular shipments of cylinders for the breathing apparatus and regular restoration treatments off Miraak personally to really fix his lungs. How much is this going to cost... all you want is a few hours to talk to Morrigan? Sold.

Keirine's fascinated by the Daedric corruption, but is unsure how to fix. She's never seen anything like it. Still, there are many kinds of Daedric corruption, and a ritual to fix another kind might work on this too. Off to Morthal's summoning circle for a reworked version of the vampirism cure, and Miraak's unstained once more.

Lucien was along for the ride, for science of course, and is delighted Miraak's cured, but also a little sad.

"I suppose you'll be going unmasked more often. Everyone is going to want a piece of you now. Goodness, you're probably going to get suitors! I... oh."

Crestfallen Lucien, who's barely been away from the High King's side since the other Lucien went home... only when Miraak returned to Windhelm and Lucien stayed at Dumzbthar to research more, and they wrote constantly even then. Lucien had seen the stains, and like his counterpart, reacted with sympathy... and a cuddle. Miraak had immediately given him Hugging Privileges and Lucien had enjoyed being in the Inner Circle very much, even if it was blindingly obvious First Acolyte Lucien was definitely the handsomer, smarter and more accomplished of the two of them.

"He is that way because of my influence," Miraak had told him once, smiling at him. "Shall we see what I influence you towards?"

So far, other than long, lengthy discussions about Dwemer engineering, the Dragon Cult, and anything else Lucien had questions about, he wasn't sure exactly what that had entailed. But Miraak had seemed to enjoy keeping him close by and taking him with him when travelling. Mostly to mind the Dwemer machines but Lucien had sometimes wondered.

Regardless, Miraak had seemed to want to spend most of his free time with Lucien, and Lucien had loved the attention... except if Miraak got married, Lucien supposed the new queen might not want the Court Scientist showing up to talk her husband's ear off until the early hours of the morning.

He needn't have worried. Miraak saw all too clearly and asked gently if the idea of Miraak getting married to another and having no time left for Lucien bothered him. Lucien nodded sadly, and then Miraak smiled, leaned down and kissed him, fingers caressing his cheek.

"I already have an heir, and don't need marriage to cement alliances with three dragons at my disposal. In fact, the only power I would ally with that is not already in touch is the Empire to the south. Do you think they would listen if word reached them one of their young nobles was going to be my consort? Do you think your family have enough court influence to persuade the Emperor to be reasonable?"

"I'll ask," Lucien breathes, pink and tearful and oh goodness, the High King just kissed him and proposed. Which is all a bit too much, a LOT too much... but of course he wants to, he's spent months staring at the First Acolyte version of himself getting cosy with the High King and the two of them seeming quite happy together, with Lucien wishing he was even a tenth that cool. Apparently the High King seems to think he's halfway there already.

"This isn't just because the First Acolyte got away, is it" Lucien has to ask. Miraak shakes his head.

"No. He was never mine to have. I was always intrigued by him but I knew he was pledged to another version of me, and knew he'd be thinking of that other man the whole time. I enjoyed his company and friendship but never took him to bed. You though. You're not pledged to anyone. You could be mine. I have been thinking that even while he was still here, but was never sure if you felt the same. Until now."

Lucien isn't sure what to say to that, so settles for a hug instead, accepts the proposal on condition they take things slowly in the bedroom, to which Miraak actually agrees.
