“Hi, Luna,” Ginny greeted her friend with a smile on her face.
“Oh, hi, Ginny,” Luna curved her lips slightly upwards.
“Have you seen Y/N?” Ginny asked, sitting next to Luna on the fountain, at the courtyard.
“No, I haven’t,” Luna slowly shook her head, looking back at her magazine.
“Weird. She’s nowhere,” the ginger girl frowned.
“Everybody is somewhere,” Luna shrugged.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Ginny looked around to the few students who chatted excitedly, “Still, I can’t find her.”
“Don’t worry. She’ll find you,” Luna turned a page, “Love always finds us.”
“W-What?” Ginny blushed fiercely.
“I said love always finds us,” Luna eyed her friend’s expression, “Aren’t you two in love?”
“No,” Ginny shook her head and swallowed hard, knowing for a fact that one of them actually was.
“Oh. My mistake then,” the blonde girl went back to her reading, not even realizing she had left her friend a nervous mess.
The youngest Weasley took a deep breath as the girl next to her hummed a song, occasionally moving her foot along with it.
“There she is,” Luna’s voice startled Ginny. And yes, there you were, walking towards them with loads of parchment rolls in your arms, making Ginny smile.
“Where have you been?” she asked the second you released the weight in form of paper on Luna’s free side on the fountain.
“Everywhere!” you answered quite desperately, trying to ease your irregular breathing, “Why did I agree to help people with their O.W.Ls? I have to read these essays and like... correct them! What am I? A teacher?”
“Nope, you’re a person who doesn’t know how to say no,” Ginny raised her eyebrows playfully, making you sigh. She was right.
“I think you’re just too nice to deny help. That’s a good thing. Being nice, I mean,” Luna explained.
“Yes, but sometimes we have to think of ourselves before others,” Ginny said.
“You’re both right. I’ll try to balance next time,” you sat next to your pile of parchment rolls.
A silence settled upon you three, but it was comfortable. You thanked them in your mind for not breaking it. Maybe you were so tired of all those students talking to you and practically begging you to accept their essays that resting your ears felt good.
“I have to go,” Luna stood up suddenly, almost making you jump, “Neville is going to help me with the Herbology assignment. Bye!” she waved at you.
“Bye, Luna,” you both answered.
As she entered the castle leaving you two alone, the silence stopped being comfortable.
“So...” you cleared your throat, “What have you been up to?”
“Nothing really interesting,” Ginny shrugged, “Harry is obsessed with his Potions textbook because it has some old notes written on it.”
“That’s cool,” you looked at her truly interested.
“I knew you would like it. You’re so curious,” she laughed a bit, “But I didn’t find you.”
You looked down at your feet, feeling flattered for some reason. She had searched for you just to tell you something she thought you would like to know. You smiled shortly.
“And you?” she asked and you looked back to her.
“I was studying in the library when this boy started saying nice things to me, which made me really suspicious. Then, he asked me to check his essay, which proved my suspicions are always right. And then, more people asked me to check essays. And now, I’m here,” you placed your hand on the amount of paper between you two.
“We could throw that away,” Ginny gave you a mischievous look, “Or better, we could burn it.”
“No, no. I committed to them,” you said and she sighed in disappointment, “But it’s good to know I have options.”
She smiled briefly before frowning slightly, an idea coming to her mind.
“Luna said something earlier,” she spoke, “Something crazy.”
You didn’t say anything, waiting for her to continue.
“She thought we were in love,” Ginny let it out, analyzing your reaction.
“W-What?” you stuttered, “Um... yeah, that’s totally crazy.”
As she was looking at you, you could notice in her eyes something different, but you couldn’t tell what.
“And what did you say to her?” you asked.
“That we’re not,” she looked away, “The truth.”
“Yeah, right,” you nodded, looking away as well.
Your face was on fire and you were sure anyone who saw you could notice it. What wasn’t visible was the tightness you felt in your chest.
All Ginny felt was her heart ache.
“I should be going,” you said after a few seconds, “Got some work to do.”
“Sure,” she nodded.
You picked up all your stuff and looked at your friend. Her eyes still had that different aspect you couldn’t identify. You said a quick ‘see you’ and left.
Ginny watched you enter the castle and as soon as she lost sight of you, she stood up and left as well.

Hexes took conviction.
That wasn’t something taught in school. Flitwick hardly had a lecture series on how to bully classmates. No, this was something Ginny had to learn all on her own. It wasn’t like dark magic. She didn’t have to give a part of herself over to make it effective, but she definitely had to put belief behind it. That, she found, was when a hex turned from annoying to debilitating. When a mere nuisance could become a calamity. Putting every feeling of irritation, aversion, dislike, contempt, hatred, into the spell could---and would---manifest in her target ten-fold.
And Ginny didn’t have use for things that were only a minor inconvenience. She had no desire to throw hexes around without a purpose. If she was going to hex someone, they were going to deserve it. She wanted them running in the opposite direction. She wanted it to leave a mark.
Only not enough of a mark to be sent to the infirmary. She had no desire to be in detention every other day. She wasn’t the twins.
After a few trials and test runs, the Bat Bogey Hex became her retribution of choice. And soon, Ginny’s convictions went from calamitous to infamous. So much so, that she only had to glare at someone the exact right way before they backed down.
It was a bit intoxicating, to be honest. To wield such a reputation. And Ginny liked to think she didn’t bestow her signature punishment on anyone who didn’t have it coming.
(Like Zacharias Smith. The git.)
Which was why Ginny, in all her renown, felt completely equipped to stand in her Defense Against the Dark Arts class, look at her new professor---a Death Eater that had turned a school hallway into a battleground less than three months prior---and say “No. I won’t.”
Because a Bat Bogey Hex wasn’t just a Bat Bogey Hex, was it?
It was conviction.

Love in 130 Ways Day 40: DIARY (Ginny/Hermione)
Tags: thoughts of violence, Tom Riddle possession, dark!Ginny, Ginny's POV, living together
This is part of my femslash Harry Potter drabble series, read the other works on AO3: here!
~~~
In my dreams, I’m stalked by rustling parchment, the black binding of an intangible secret, a voice coming from nowhere and everywhere all at once.
When I wake up my hands are grazing your throat. I know he’s getting closer, digging his way up to the surface. I bite my tongue and fill my mouth with blood, ignoring the scratching claws I feel in the pit of my stomach.
If I kill you one morning, it won’t be my fault, and I’ll never admit it to myself, but part of me wants to give in—something inside me wants you dead.
