Calm and Relaxing Art Journaling
I was in the waiting room at the ortho and was perusing around YouTube while I waited. And I came across this fabulous little tutorial on calm and relaxing art journaling using a few different supplies, such as watercolor pencils, marker, pen, pastels and white pen.
What a vibrant and lovely art journal page to create! And so simple! I love, love, love the color and doodles that the artist used to bring this artistic spread to life! And adding in the little house and decorative trees at the end was FABULOUS!
Totally going to try this in one of my art journals. Maybe I’ll have to take an art journal with me when I’m sitting in the waiting room at the next appointment!
Enjoy!

What are The Litterbugs like in the Paradise Lost AU? Are they like butterflies? Are they just the same bug? Or are they just the same but with different colors?

Watercolor Bird Flocks of Fabulousness!
Last night’s Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop was an absolute delight. The studio buzzed with warm conversation as we set out to paint quirky, colorful, and whimsical birds, letting our imaginations lead the way. A few participants shared that it was their first time trying watercolors and, naturally, there were a few nerves at the start. But gentle encouragement and a supportive atmosphere quickly made everyone feel at home.
As our brushes met the paper, laughter and stories flowed freely, and it was wonderful to see everyone brighten up as their birds took shape, each one uniquely vibrant and full of character. Even our beginner artists soon relaxed, finding joy in playing with color and letting their creativity shine. By the end of the evening, the tables were filled with wonderful, expressive artwork—and an unmistakable sense of contentment and camaraderie lingered in the room. It truly felt like the perfect way to unwind, explore something new, and enjoy each other's company.
Take a look at the wonderful and whimsical birds that we watercolored:
We’d love to have you join us for a future Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop! Seats are limited!

Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop: Funky Faces
There’s nothing quite like a Monday night filled with laughter, creativity, and a splash of color! This week’s Monday Night Muse Watercolor Workshop was all about letting go of expectations and embracing the fun side of art. Our studio buzzed with excitement as we gathered to paint funky faces—each one inspired by an uplifting, positive quote.
Kicking Off with Inspiration
We began the night by reading and sharing interesting, empowering quotes. These words became our creative spark, guiding the direction of our watercolor portraits. Instead of aiming for realism, we let the quotes shape our faces—sometimes literally!—and encouraged everyone to interpret them in their own unique way.
Breaking the Mold: Color & Technique
To break down the barriers of drawing and painting faces, we tossed aside the traditional skin tones and facial proportions. Here’s how we made it happen:
Inventive Color Schemes: Faces in teal, magenta, lime green, and even rainbow stripes! Each artist chose colors that felt bold, expressive, and true to their chosen quote.
Playful Techniques: We experimented with wet-on-wet blending, salt textures, splatter effects, and unexpected linework. Some faces had exaggerated features, while others were whimsical abstractions.
No Rules, Just Fun: The only requirement? Have fun and let go! Laughter filled the room as we cheered each other on and marveled at the wild, wonderful faces taking shape.
Why Funky Faces?
Painting faces can feel intimidating, but by steering away from the typical color schemes and structures, we discovered how freeing and joyful it can be. Each funky face became a celebration of individuality and positivity—a reminder that art is about expression, not perfection.
A Night to Remember
By the end of the night, our tables were covered in vibrant, unconventional portraits, each one paired with a quote that brought it to life. We left with new techniques, fresh inspiration, and a renewed sense of creative confidence.
If you’re looking for a place to laugh, experiment, and break down creative barriers, join us for our next Monday Night Muse. Who knows what we’ll paint next—but you can be sure it’ll be colorful, positive, and a whole lot of fun!

Whimsical Watercolors Wrap Up
Monday morning was our last meeting for our Whimsical Watercolors class and I’m sad it’s over! We had such a wonderful time meeting each week and painting together. The strides that these ladies have made during their time in class is epic!
Last week we worked on lakeside landscapes both in class and for at home work. As you can see from the photos above, my sweet CH did a fabulous job on her landscapes! The gorgeous color and textures that she created are stunning!
Monday morning we worked on colorful owls and it’s amazing to see the personalities that evolved from each painting. EC and CH did a phenomenal job painting their beautiful owls! And I love the colors that they chose! Stunning!
If you’re looking to continue your watercolor painting journey, we’ve got in-studio workshops starting up on June 2! Workshops are filling up fast! Come and join us!

Whimsical Watercolor Wonders
Every time I have a regularly scheduled class, I look forward to the first few minutes of everyone arriving so I can see all the beautiful paintings they’ve worked on for “homework.” And yesterday was no surprise that the Whimsical Watercolor students blew my socks off with their doodles and paintings! Take a look:
Aren’t they just lovely? It never ceases to amaze me how the same project can be translated so differently among students. I love their use of color and their interpretations are stunning! Way to go, ladies!

Watercolor Bar Mitzvah Card
Over the weekend, my son was graciously invited to a classmate’s Bar Mitzvah. Nobody in my family has ever attended one, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. Luckily, we’ve got a few friends (and a couple of art students) that know the ropes when it comes to such a special event so they walked us through the process. And it was super interesting. I’m actually bummed I didn’t get invited! My kiddo said it was really interesting to listen to the ceremony and watch his classmate read from the torah, reciting difficult passages. And both the luncheon and afterparties were more on the scale of a wedding is what he said. Tons of food, dancing, laughs, desserts.
From the sounds of it once he got home to seeing all the photos taken, it sure did look like a fabulous event!
I ended up painting this kiddo a card because I wanted to make something special for him (even though I never have even met this kid nor his family). And I’m happy with how it turned out, being the first time I’ve ever created one! Come take a look at the process and final result.
