You’re paying for databases that you can use to write your term papers: or just to read a paper

You’re paying to use a computer: even if your fines are crazy. (Most places will let you login as a “guest” rather than a patron)

You’re paying to show up to an event that the library is hosting for free. Even if you don’t live in county and especially IF YOU DO!! Go without a library card. The worst thing that’ll happen is that they’ll sign you up for one. Damn now you gotta go back and check out books and movies and shit THAT YOU ALREADY HELPED PAY FOR THE LIBRARY TO OWN?? Damn dude, what a curse.

Yeah hi. Your taxes for the library are being used by everyone who goes to the library every dimmidome day. Come chill at the library. Worst case scenario you can’t check something out, and you can just come chill with us for the day.

A lot of libraries also have free crafting ebooks and videos you can watch through their digital downloads or databases! Either go into the library for books or look online for eBooks qnd videos. I know our library has Craftsy videos through hoopla and another in the state has an amazing crafting database. Check out your library, you never know what you'll find.

I'm really surprised how many young fiber art people don't know that they can get pattern books from their local library. So as a PSA:

Your local public library has pattern books! They have crochet, knitting, weaving, and quilting pattern books! If they don't have the book you want, or the craft you want, you can ask for us to get it for you! It's free!

just a reminder that you can just read books about like cool birds, and whales, and sharks. they have them at your local library you can just go borrow a book.

yesterday I went to a little meeting at my local queer community center and I was admiring their bookshelves and mentioned that I work at the public library and someone said "well I bet they don't have any [LGBTQ+ books] at our library" and I was like um. yes we do. we have tons of them. half of our employees are queer leftists so they said "oh well I bet they don't in [nearby rural county]" and I was like uh once again yes they absolutely do. gay people live and work there as well

so here's a quick reminder that if you don't think your local library has enough queer centered materials you should actually check before assuming, and if you're not satisfied with their collection you should submit a request for more such books. I don't know what the political landscape of libraries looks like outside the us rn, but within the us no matter where you are, I promise you there are employees at your library fighting for inclusion and intellectual freedom and they can't win without vocal public support

Kanopy- Movies, documentaries, TV shows

Also you can just go to your actual library and check out physical materials for an even wider selection

That's on top of the resources they have for lifelong learning. CreativeBug, Mango, and the Great Courses Collection are there to be used, for free. The only subscription you need is a library card.

i’ve seen too many people ask for a character.ai bot or a chatbot or whatever of the characters. dude, the game is LITERALLY against ai, what is the thought process here?? not to mention all the awful things ai does, but it feels especially bitter given that i can only assume the dev team hates ai just as much as any sane person would. i can’t imagine hating ai only to have someone feed my oc’s into a chatbot site when you could just be writing fanfic or rping with real people. sorry for the rant, i’m just frustrated.
