I like to imagine the in-world reason for Pathfinder ditching spell-schools is that everybody held on to this ancient Thassilonian system, and then the actual Thassilon starts showing up again, and we see how different they are from the mythology and go “oh, this whole taxonomy is gobbledygook.
“In retrospect yeah, some wizard despots who lionized their own personality flaws all declared the kind of magic they liked to do an innate classification, and we all just went along with it. Gods’ sake, half these ‘schools’ do 6 unrelated things, but DIVINATION is their waste bin taxon?”

Wyvern (Paths Beyond)
Everyone’s favourite maybe-drake is, quite bluntly, one of my favourite monsters. I'm not entirely sure I can give a coherent explanation of why. Dragons are awesome, but I have a soft spot for drakes, I have a soft spot for heraldic creatures, and I have a soft spot for bug-like stingers. Wyverns check all of those boxes off while also smart enough that you can have baseline negotiations and intrigue with them. They are just fun and iconic in all the right ways.
Air and poison are the two themes I would play with when looking for wyverns on the planes. Thankfully, there is no shortage of either, so there are lots of places to stick these wee timorous beasties. Beyond that, I'd be inclined to make wyverns NPC members of various factions, especially that either play into or subvert their physical/bestial nature. Sometimes playing into archetypal roles are useful, but especially on the planes, you should be prepared to expect the unexpected.
Legends and symbols collide on the Astral Plane, churning into the occult thought forms that give bardic tales their power. The Silver Sea's rising and falling tides have spawned the Heraldic Beasts - potent living symbols of mortal honour and nobility. The greatest of these is the Chivalrous Wyvern, a draconic champion who represents knights and monarchs within the Astral. The Wyvern is a supremely honourable symbol, it should not be mistaken for a holy one - the astral drake is chivalrous, not charitable, and is equally capable of siding with honourable albeit unholy knights.
Dat’raq the Destroyer evangelizes to all drakes who will listen. The wyvern prophet preaches that dragons, for all their power and magic, are insufficiently servile to Dahak and that it is time for drakes to take their place. Drakes can’t oppose their more powerful cousin directly, but Dat’raq works covertly to build his movement, founding hidden clutches on planar rifts across Avistan in hopes they will grant the next generations of drakes powerful innate magic. He’s also approached factions such as the Pathfinders, Aspis, and the Hellknight in hopes of using the soft skins to help even the odds and evangelizes just as hard to orcs and kobolds as he does his own kind.
Anywhere dragons dwell, the Wyverntree can be found, at least according to drakes. It is majestic and impossible, nestled away deep within the ethereal plane, where it reaches all places at once. While it resembles a tree whose multitude of gnarled limbs stretch out into infinity, close inspection reveals it is anything but vegetation. The entire Wyverntree is made of scales, teeth, muscles, and poison. Fleshy bulbs protrude out of its surface like overripe fruits that give birth to fully formed drakes. Most of these are wyverns, as are the gigantic feathered beast that prowls the tree’s highest braces and the scaleless monster worming its way through the deepest roots.
Notes: You want more on heraldry and heraldic symbols, I came across this resource on WikiSource that may be helpful: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/A_Complete_Guide_to_Heraldry/Chapter_13

Better Angel of My Nature (pt 1)
"The boss isn't gonna like this," Filaniel said, shaking her head.
I didn't look away from the lock. I had three of the pins in place already; if I could just get the fourth to drop... I shifted the position of my probe a little. "He's not my boss, so I really don't give a shit what he likes," I told her. "If you don't want to watch, then by all means, go back home or wherever it is you go when you're not bothering me. It would make things easier on both of us."
Fila made a face. "You know perfectly well I'm not going to do that. I'm here to protect and guide you and I can't do either of those things unless I'm with you." She nodded toward the door I was in the process of opening. "Especially since you have, at best, a few vague hopes as to what you're going to find on the other side of that."
"I don't need specifics to know that this is the best lock in the house by a substantial margin and you don't put the best lock in the house on the room where you keep the servants' cleaning supplies," I retorted. "Whatever's on the other side, it's got to be valuable, and that means it's worth finding out what it is."
Sighing, Fila crossed her arms and waited. A few more seconds went by - the lock had two false gates in it, not just the one I had initially suspected, which was even more evidence for my theory about things worth stealing on the other side - and then the lock suddenly gave under the pressure from my tension wrench, turning smoothly. I flashed Fila an arrogant smirk before unlocking the door, standing up, and pushing it open.
The room on the other side was larger than I had expected: I thought we'd already found the master bedroom, but this had to be it. Completely unfurnished, the room held double glass doors that opened in two places out onto balconies that overlooked the river and rich gold candelabras mounted on the walls. I would have thought the windows were distinctly strange, considering I'd cased this mansion thoroughly and hadn't seen anything of the kind from the outside, but I was distracted by what was in the middle of the room: four humanoid figures, all wearing black robes with deep cowls, kneeling around a circle drawn on the wooden floor in what I desperately hoped was red paint. The interior of the circle was all complicated diagrams and jagged angles and words written in what I was pretty sure was Chthonian, what most people call Demonic, and in the center of that was something vaguely dog-shaped, but it was eight feet tall on the hind legs it stood on, had tiny bat wings growing from its shoulders, and a crown of fire floating over its head. Its eyes widened on seeing Filaniel and I in the doorway, and all four of the cloaked figures spun around to look at us.
"Ah, fuck," I said.
Filaniel, who was, in addition to all her other aggravating qualities, fucking insane, smiled widely. "Oh goodie! I get to beat up a demon and say I told you so! This is the best night I've had in weeks!" With no warning whatsoever, she was holding a rapier in one hand and a beaten brass tankard in the other. She spread her feathered wings wide, shouted, "For righteousness and great booze!" and charged in, weapon flashing.
I found it extremely obnoxious that she was unspeakably hot when she was kicking ass.
"Angels aren't supposed to be petty!" I shouted after her.
"Maybe they aren't in Heaven," she called back, "but in Elysium we know how to have fun!"
