4 Beginner-Friendly Essentials Every New Tennis Player Needs
If you want to be more active this summer, tennis is a fun sport for improving your footwork, elevating your heart rate, and connecting with a community of tennis enthusiasts. However, if you’ve never picked up a racquet, it’s natural to feel nervous about approaching a tennis court for the first time. What do I need to bring to the court? Which racquet is best suited for my level? Which tennis clothes should I wear while playing?

If you’re stepping onto the court for the first time, here are four essentials to help you feel confident while playing.
1. Hit Powerful Strokes with the Right Tennis Racquet
Getting comfortable with foundational tennis skills such as footwork, basic strokes, tracking the ball, and moving around the court are aspects you’ll focus on as you begin playing. However, becoming adept at handling a tennis racquet is crucial. Before stepping onto the court, you’ll need a beginner-friendly tennis racquet. Choose a racquet with a larger head size, a lightweight frame, and a comfortable grip. This type of racquet is easy on the arm and offers a larger sweet spot for beginners to swing confidently.
2. Ace Swift Movements with the Right Tennis Shoes
Tennis is a sport that emphasizes precise footwork. From swift lateral movements to quick pivots, the right tennis shoe adapts to these movements effectively. While you might think your gym or running shoes will provide support on the court, tennis shoes are specifically designed to enhance performance in this quick-footed environment. Choose shoes that offer a good balance of support and comfort, allowing for agility on your feet. Consider industry-leading brands like Nike, Adidas, and Asics for all-surface tread patterns that are adaptable to most courts.

3. Land Your Serve with the Right Tennis Ball
You may be surprised that not all tennis balls are created equal. Similar to tennis shoes, certain balls are designed for specific courts. Extra duty balls perform best on hard courts due to their long-lasting felt durability and quality control. Regular duty tennis balls are intended for softer surfaces, such as clay or indoor courts. However, for most recreational players, a few fresh cans of practice balls tucked in your tennis racket bag will do the trick. These balls are ideal for beginners because of their slower, lower bounce and increased durability for training.
4. Win in Performance and Style with the Right Tennis Apparel
Don’t underestimate the power of tennis apparel to keep you comfortable and cool on the courts. Whether you’re learning foundational skills by running drills or practicing ball control with some volleying, tennis is a physical sport that involves quick movements and many starts and stops. Pair a moisture-wicking tennis tank top with a breathable tennis skirt made from stretchy fabric that moves with every sprint, dash, and stretch. Additionally, choose bottoms with pocket storage so you always have a few balls ready for the next volley.

Whether the pros at Wimbledon inspire you or you want to try playing a new sport this summer, tennis is a fantastic way to learn new skills. No matter if you’re picking up a racquet for the very first time or returning after a long hiatus, remember to have fun, give it your all, and take pride in your progress.

Types of Tennis Rackets

Rackets can determine a tennis player's comfort and performance. They often come in different sizes and shapes, and they are made of different materials that suit each player’s preference. Tennis rackets can be broadly divided into three types: control rackets, tweener rackets, and power rackets.
Professional players who have mastered the art of accurate and fast swings often prefer control rackets. Compared to the other types of rackets, the control rackets usually have a smaller head size, ranging between 85 and 98 square inches. They are also heavy, allowing for precision and stability. Because of the weight of the control racket, professional players can absorb and redirect fast-moving balls more easily.
Power rackets, or game improvement rackets, are specifically designed for beginners who still need help with their swing speed and power. They have large heads ranging from 100 to 135 square inches, a lighter weight, and a longer frame. Because these rackets have a larger head, it is easier for beginners to hit the tennis ball.
Tweener rackets offer a balanced mix of power and control, making them a great choice for intermediate to advanced players refining their skills. They have a medium head size between 98 and 104 square inches and a moderate weight range of around 10 to 11 ounces. Due to their versatility and all-around performance, tweener rackets are especially popular among club-level players and juniors moving into more competitive play.

Choosing the Right Paddle Tennis Racket
Buying a paddle racket isn’t just about picking the flashiest design. Here’s what to consider before you buy paddle tennis rackets online in UAE:
● Weight
Light paddles (350–365g) offer better maneuverability and control, ideal for beginners. Heavier paddles offer more power but require stronger arms and wrists.
● Shape
Round: Control-oriented, with a larger sweet spot — perfect for newcomers.
Teardrop: Balanced between power and control.
Diamond: Designed for advanced players who want more power.
● Surface Texture & Core
The paddle’s surface affects spin potential, while the internal core impacts shock absorption and feel. EVA soft foam is common for shock resistance and comfort.
Not Just Paddle Tennis — Pickleball is Catching On Too

Sensa-tional or Not?
The moment I stepped into Sensa Padel, located at 100 Parker Street in Watertown, just a few minutes from downtown Boston, I felt an instant connection with people I barely knew. The environment reminded me so much of my home clubs in Spain; that energy, that sense of belonging. As someone who has played padel for years, I never expected to feel such warmth and familiarity in a club across the Atlantic. But there it was: music playing, people smiling, and a contagious vibe of community. It told me everything I needed to know.
Sensa Padel is not only introducing a fast-growing sport to Boston; it’s setting a new standard for what a community-focused sports club can look like.
The club opened its doors in January 2023 and currently has four indoor panoramic courts, all with that distinctive bright blue turf that instantly catches your eye. The glass walls surrounding the courts are spotless and transparent, making every match feel open and dynamic. The whole facility feels clean, modern, and well-maintained; you can tell there’s attention to detail here.
The music playing in the background is usually upbeat, a mix of international hits, techno house, and classic feel-good songs that give life to the space without distracting from the game. And something that made me smile? During one of my visits, I spotted a raccoon casually walking across the facility's roof, like even the local wildlife feels at home at Sensa!
Inside, there’s always a mix of people: from beginners getting their first lesson, to advanced players competing in tournaments, to students enjoying a casual game after class. That’s the magic of Sensa, it balances fun and focus perfectly. You see people serious about improving, but also laughing between points and building friendships.
One of their best initiatives is Student Thursdays. Every Thursday, students can book courts at a discounted price of $25 per person for 90 minutes, a smart and inclusive move for Boston’s large college community. For regular bookings, non-members pay around $60 per person for 90 minutes, while members enjoy discounted rates. Membership options vary from $160 per month for students to $290 per month for unlimited access, plus perks like free clinics or priority booking.
And then there’s Hugo Fetsco, the general manager and heart of the club. Hugo is everywhere, greeting players, organizing tournaments, checking in on games, and creating that warm, family-like atmosphere. During the recent USPA tournament (the first ever hosted in Massachusetts), I saw him not only managing the event but genuinely celebrating every point with the players. He remembers names, asks about your last game, and makes sure every guest feels seen.
Of course, Sensa has room to grow. With the sport booming in Spain and Latin America, I can only imagine how valuable it would be for Boston to have even more courts to accommodate demand. Another great addition could be an outdoor terrace area in the parking lot, some tables, string lights, maybe a smoothie bar, and a space for players to relax and socialize after a match, especially during the summer months.
Overall, Sensa Padel brings a fresh, inclusive, and joyful take on padel to Boston. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just curious to try something new, this club will welcome you with open arms and a racket ready.
Come for the sport, stay for the people, and don’t be surprised if you leave with a big smile and maybe a new group of friends.

Mastering Pickleball: Why Your Paddle Choice Makes All the Difference
Home is where the court is!
The pickleball sensation has a grip on American hearts like no other sport. Its popularity has surged recently, attracting players of all ages and skill levels.

Creating a perfect blend of different elements from tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, pickleball offers compact fun with easy indoor and outdoor settings.
It is easy to learn, highly accessible, and fosters the feeling of community, making it a popular sport in America.
As with any sport, you need the right equipment for optimal performance and enjoyment. In pickleball, your paddle is your most important piece of gear. Let's dive deep into why your paddle choice is vital to your game.
Why is Pickleball Paddle Prime?
In the fast-paced world of pickleball, your paddle is far more than just a piece of equipment – it's an extension of your arm that will improve your skills and enhance your game.
1. Direct Influence on Your Game
In badminton, your racket comes in direct contact with the shuttlecock. It is the determining factor for your performance on the court. Similarly, the pickleball paddle is in direct contact with the ball meaning every aspect of the paddle will directly influence your game. Whether you decide to serve or dink, the paddle is the most crucial element for every type of play.
2. Definition of your Playing Style
Offensive and defensive players may have a different set of strokes that they prefer. But, one thing is common: the importance of pickleball paddles in enhancing their skills on the court. Your choice of paddle will determine the ease with which you want to dictate the game. For example, a heavier paddle is ideal for power players, and players who want a quick and responsive paddle can choose a lightweight option.
3. Crucial for Avoiding Injuries
Your pickleball paddle is more than just a tool for showcasing your skills on the court. Choosing the right paddle is a crucial decision that can have far-reaching effects on your playing style, skill development, and physical well-being. Thus, making the right decision means building a robust shield from injuries.
How to Choose the Right Pickleball Paddle for Improved Performance?
With the sport’s popularity across the globe, manufacturers are undertaking massive technological advancements to improve the performance of pickleball paddles. Modern paddles have drastically improved sweet spot, feel, and spin, making it unarguably essential to pick the right paddle, because choosing the wrong one can lose you points, and thus, the match.
Let’s understand what factors to consider when choosing a pickleball paddle:
1. Your Skill Makes the Kill
If you are playing pickleball for recreational purposes, you need not worry about your skill ratings. However, it is important to note how professional players rate their skills to pick a paddle that complements their game. Players between 1.0 and 2.5 fall into the beginner category, while 3.0 and 4.0 mean an intermediate player. Players with 5+ ratings are experts in the game.
Although, one must not fall prey to worrying only about the skill ratings, the numbers prove to be a valuable reference guide to buy a pickleball paddle.
If you are new to pickleball, midweight is a great category to begin learning serves and dinks. It offers easy handling and a large sweet spot to quickly learn the game. Yonex Ezone pickleball paddle can be the right purchase for a beginner.
2. Power, Control, or All-Around?
By knowing your skill ratings, you can learn more about playing style and then make the right buying decision. If you like to have more power, you can opt for a pickleball with a heavier weight and bigger sweet spot to add more power and feel to your shots. Control players, who want to ensure finesse rather than power, can benefit from a concentrated sweet spot that comes with the Yonex Vcore pickleball paddle.
There are many all-around players who want a lightweight paddle with a concentrated sweet spot because they are able to generate power from their arms. They only need the racket for control and such players can choose Yonex Vcore Plus pickleball paddle.
3. Touch and Feel Matter
Pickleball is easy and fun, but playing the shots correctly requires knowledge and skills. For example, experienced players know that a responsive paddle is a requirement to play delicate drop shots and dinks. When you do not want to compromise on paddle touch and maneuverability is your top priority, choose a paddle with graphite material for better responsiveness. A lightweight Yonex Ezone Plus pickleball paddle is a great responsive paddle with a larger sweet spot for easy power generation and shot placement.
4. Long Term Considerations
Using a pickleball paddle that's too heavy or has the wrong grip size can lead to arm fatigue and potential injuries like tennis elbow over time. So, you must focus on what works best for your individual preferences. Additionally when you play the game continuously, your skills will improve and your paddle needs may change. So, make sure to ascertain your skills and comfort regularly before you make the switch to new gear.
What’s “Best” for you?
Your pickleball paddle is not just a tool – it's your primary means of expressing your skills on the court. It affects every aspect of your game, from power and control to finesse and defensive capabilities. Choosing the right paddle is a deeply personal decision that can have extensive effects on your playing style.
Remember, the "best" paddle is subjective and depends on your individual needs, playing style, and physical characteristics. Take the time to test different paddles, consider your playing style, and don't be afraid to reassess your choice as your skills develop. With the right paddle in hand, you'll be well-equipped to elevate your game and fully enjoy the exciting world of pickleball.

Benefits of Squash Sport: A Complete Guide to Health and Wellness
In the world of fast-paced, high-intensity games, squash stands out as one of the most effective sports for building endurance, improving coordination, and enhancing mental agility. Played within a four-walled court with a small rubber ball, squash may look simple—but it offers a full-body workout and numerous long-term advantages. The benefits of squash sport extend far beyond just burning calories; it’s a holistic activity that supports both physical and mental well-being.
1. Full-Body Workout
One of the greatest benefits of squash sport is its ability to work the entire body in a single session. Players engage multiple muscle groups while running, lunging, swinging, and stretching. Legs, arms, core, and even back muscles get involved, making squash a comprehensive strength and cardio workout.
2. Cardiovascular Health
Squash involves continuous movement, sudden direction changes, and high-speed rallies. This keeps the heart rate elevated, significantly improving cardiovascular endurance. Regularly playing squash helps lower blood pressure, strengthen the heart, and reduce the risk of heart disease.
3. Enhances Reflexes and Agility
With the ball bouncing off walls at high speeds, players must react quickly and make split-second decisions. This greatly enhances reflexes and agility over time. Improved hand-eye coordination is another key outcome, making squash not just a physical game but also a skill-based one.
4. Mental Fitness and Stress Relief
The benefits of squash sport aren’t limited to physical health. Squash requires intense focus, strategic planning, and quick decision-making. These mental challenges sharpen cognitive function and improve problem-solving skills. Moreover, playing squash releases endorphins—natural mood boosters—which help reduce stress and anxiety.
5. Weight Loss and Muscle Toning
Thanks to its high-intensity nature, squash is excellent for burning calories and shedding excess fat. A 30-minute game can burn between 400–600 calories, depending on intensity and fitness level. At the same time, players develop lean muscle mass, particularly in the legs, arms, and core.
6. Boosts Flexibility and Balance
Players need to twist, bend, lunge, and reach for shots, all of which improve overall flexibility and balance. Over time, this enhances posture, reduces stiffness, and lowers the risk of injuries—both in sport and daily life.
7. Social Interaction and Fun
While squash is usually played one-on-one, it’s also a highly social sport. Joining a squash club or participating in tournaments introduces players to a community of like-minded individuals. Social connections formed through sport are great for emotional well-being and motivation to stay active.
8. Builds Discipline and Resilience
Squash demands consistency, patience, and persistence. Learning new techniques, improving footwork, and mastering timing take time. These aspects help develop discipline, focus, and mental toughness—qualities that benefit players beyond the court.
9. Suitable for All Ages
Another often-overlooked benefit of squash sport is its accessibility. It’s suitable for people of various age groups and fitness levels. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced athlete, squash can be adapted to suit your abilities and goals.
10. Convenient and Weather-Proof
Unlike many outdoor sports, squash is played indoors, making it a weather-proof option year-round. It requires minimal equipment—a racket, ball, and court—which makes it convenient and cost-effective in the long run.
Conclusion
From improving cardiovascular fitness to enhancing mental clarity, the benefits of squash sport are wide-ranging and impactful. It’s a sport that challenges the body and mind, promotes social engagement, and fits easily into a busy lifestyle. Whether you’re looking to get in shape, reduce stress, or simply enjoy a fun and energetic game, squash offers a well-rounded path to better health.
Start playing squash today and experience firsthand how this dynamic sport can transform your fitness and your life.

Is Playing Pickleball Difficult To Play Rather Than Tennis?
Tennis has long been the most popular racket sport, but pickleball has become increasingly popular in Canada, including London, Ontario, in recent years. However, a lot of novices frequently ask: Is pickleball harder to play than tennis? Or is it the ideal sport for people looking for a thrilling but approachable game?
Let's examine the distinctions between the two and how Champion Sports Academy provides top-notch instruction, flexible court scheduling, and expert coaching to help athletes of all ages and skill levels succeed in both.
Understanding the Basics: Pickleball vs Tennis
Pickleball is a paddle sport that incorporates aspects of ping-pong, badminton, and tennis. Usually played on a smaller court than tennis, it involves a solid paddle and a perforated plastic ball. Conversely, tennis is more physically taxing due to its larger court, heavier racket, and faster-moving ball.
How do these sports compare to one another
Why Learning Pickleball Is Easier
Simplified Rules: Pickleball is easy to learn, especially for children and senior citizens, because it has fewer technical rules.
Reduced Ball Speed: Players have more time to react and regroup when the ball moves more slowly.
A smaller court means less running, which is ideal for athletes with joint issues or those just starting out in sports.
Smaller Court Size: Less running required, which is great for players with joint concerns or beginners easing into sports.
Lightweight Paddle: Easier on the arm and shoulder compared to a tennis racket.
Why Tennis Could Be Harder
Additional Footwork: The bigger court necessitates greater agility and endurance.
Advanced Skills: Overhand serves, spins, and calculated shot placements are all part of the game.
Faster Ball Speed: Because tennis balls move so quickly, players must have faster reflexes.
Therefore, pickleball offers a more approachable entry point into racket sports, while tennis presents a more physical challenge. Nevertheless, both are immensely fulfilling to learn and play.

Easier to learn and start playing
2. Great for social and recreational players
3. Less demanding on joints

Padel Fever Hits Boston: Hugo Fetsco vision for Boston’s next big sport
If you have never heard of padel, you are definitely not alone, but that may be about to change thanks to passionate innovators like Hugo Fetsco, the General Manager of Sensa Padel Boston, who is working hard to introduce this fast-growing sport from Europe and Latin America to the U.S. While cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Buenos Aires are filled with padel courts, Boston is only just beginning to embrace it.
Hugo never imagined he would become one of the pioneers leading the padel movement in Boston. What started as a curiosity while studying at Columbia Business School quickly turned into a passion, and now he manages one of only two padel clubs in the area. I interviewed Hugo to learn about his journey into the sport, the challenges of introducing padel to a city unfamiliar with it, and the strategies Sensa Padel is using to spark interest and grow a community.
Hugo and his team are on a mission to make padel Boston’s newest rising sport. And if you’re someone who loves trying new things, this story might just inspire you to grab a racket, meet new people, and join the movement behind a sport that is as social and fun as it is competitive.
What is your official position at Sensa Padel?
I’m the General Manager for our Boston location, but I’m also part of our head office team that focuses on strategy and launching new locations. Right now, we operate in Boston and Nashville, but I help support operations for both clubs; vendor onboarding, scheduling, events, and I’ll be involved in launching future locations like Austin and potentially San Francisco.
How did you first discover padel, and what led you to work at Sensa?
I discovered padel pretty recently, actually! I was studying at Columbia Business School in New York City and wanted to work for a high-growth startup. Padel seemed like a booming industry. I connected with Sensa before we even launched in Boston. I interned while still a student, and later, they offered me the role of GM to help open our first location.
Have you ever played before working at Sensa Padel? What was your first impression?
The first time I played was last May. I was brand new to racket sports, I had only tried tennis and pickleball a little. But once I played padel, I loved how dynamic it was. There’s more cardio, more skill, and a fun social vibe.
What does Sensa Padel mean to you personally?
For me, Sensa is about building a culture around padel. We're not just opening courts; we want to create a community. What I love most is the high level of interaction we have with customers. We focus on making everyone feel welcome, from beginners to advanced players.
Since padel is not yet very popular in the U.S., especially Boston, what do you think is needed for it to grow and become a well-known sport here?
Great question. I think Boston has a few unique advantages that can help padel grow. First, there are a lot of racket sports enthusiasts here, people who already play tennis, pickleball, or platform tennis, so padel can really appeal to them. Also, Boston is a very international city, so many people, like students and business travelers from Spain, Latin America, and Europe, are already familiar with padel.
However, there are challenges. For the local racket sport players, we need to educate them about how to play padel and how it's different. For international players, the price point is an issue, since in places like Spain, padel is much cheaper. In Boston, prices are two to three times higher because of rent and operational costs, which makes it harder to attract players used to lower fees.
What marketing strategies are you currently using to attract new players and promote padel?
Right now, our main strategies are Google search ads, so when people search for tennis, pickleball, or padel in Boston, we appear at the top of the search results. We are also starting to use Instagram marketing, including reels and stories, to promote events and court availability.
Additionally, we use our website, Instagram page, and newsletters to communicate updates and events to our community.
One of our key marketing strategies going forward is to create a student ambassador program. We are looking for students at different colleges who are passionate about padel and can help us promote the sport. Ambassadors would help organize student groups, host events, and get discounted court time for bringing new players. For example, we have an ambassador at Harvard Business School who brings groups of 30 students, and we offer her discounted rates and special promo codes to encourage more play.
What do you think would be an attractive offer or membership for students?
Right now, we are promoting a student membership for $160 per month, which includes unlimited play during both peak and off-peak hours. I’m very curious to get feedback from students to see if that’s appealing or if we need to adjust it.
Are there any specific challenges in creating a social environment like in other countries where padel is popular?
Yes, definitely. One challenge is that in countries like Spain, people hang out after matches, have a drink, and socialize, which helps build community. But here, since most people have to drive to the club, it makes staying to socialize harder, especially if they’ve driven a long distance. Also, the higher costs make it difficult for some players to play frequently.
But we’re working on creating more social events, like ladies' open plays, tournaments, and group matches, to encourage community building.
Can you share any special stories of connection or friendships that have formed at Sensa Padel?
Absolutely. One great story is about Renata, a woman who was very passionate about padel and had been playing in Denmark before moving here. When we met, she didn’t yet have a work visa, but she loved the sport and wanted to be involved. After she got her work permit, we offered her a position organizing events, like our ladies’ open plays. She’s done an amazing job and recently accepted a full-time position with us.
Another story is about our Wilson representative, he started as just our racket supplier but fell in love with padel. Now we play together regularly and have become good friends, hanging out outside the club. So, it’s great to see how padel brings people together.
What are your thoughts on using social media like TikTok or Instagram to promote padel among younger audiences?
I think social media is key, especially platforms like Instagram and TikTok, because that’s where students and young adults are spending time. We are definitely working on producing more reels, stories, and interactive content. Also, collaborating with student ambassadors to share content in their college groups would be a huge help in raising awareness.
Are there other Sensa Padel locations, and are they similar to Boston?
Yes, besides Boston, we have a club in Nashville. The Boston location is indoors with four courts, while Nashville has six outdoor courts and is very photogenic, really beautiful with great weather in spring and summer. Both are built to help grow the sport but adapted to the local environment
Finally, how can people get involved or start playing padel at Sensa?
The best way is to visit our website and Instagram page to see our schedule and events. And if anyone is interested in becoming a student ambassador, they can reach out to us; we’re always looking for people passionate about padel to help us grow the community!
